My day at the show Spring is in the air and as far as we’re concerned at the Vitality Show it’s the perfect time for a fresh look at our lives whether it be focusing on a new diet and fitness regime, taking up a new challenge, revamping our style or rebalancing our emotions. I’m looking forward to getting a style update at the KMS Style Station where experts are on hand with top tips for styling and taking care of your hair, and getting some top beauty tips from experts such as Fiona Embleton, Top Santé’s beauty editor, who’ll be talking on the Beauty Stage. Then I’ll be heading for the Pronamel Kitchen Theatre to check out delicious healthy recipes whipped up by celebrity

chefs including James Martin – I’m a huge Saturday Kitchen fan. Next it’ll be a trip to the Zest Fitness Park where I want to try out a hula-hooping class – it looks so fun I can hardly believe it’s exercise. After all that exertion I’ll relax with a treatment in The Oasis with Spirit & Destiny magazine and visit the TLC Advice Lounge with Activia to ask one of their experts for some advice on keeping my digestive system in tip-top shape. Finally I’ll be meeting up with my Mum, I’ve got her a VIP Pamper Experience for Mother’s Day so we’re going for a massage together. I can’t wait.

On trend

We asked the style savvy team at KMS to let us in on their hottest hair tips this season

1

Fresh off the Autumn/Winter 2012 catwalk, KMS created this look for romantic Turkish designer, Bora Aksu. Sam Bright (pictured right), Owner of Woo Salon, Essex says, “This is a key look for Autumn/Winter as it’s understated, romantic and messy. A ponytail was knotted, twisted into a bun and a piece of lace has been added for a twist of glamour.”

2

The off-centre parting (main picture) is a huge craze right now with lots of celebs trying it on for size. KMS Art Team members, Ahkeem Yussuf and Luke Jennings say, “It offers fantastic movement thanks to the long classic layers while the bright colour and shine is show stopping.” Use KMS Hairstay anti-humidity seal to prevent frizz.

3

Jessie J is storming the music charts and this nod-to-her ‘do (pictured above) will top the style stakes. Olive Tucker and Nicola Smyth from the KMS Art Team say, “This look is right on trend with its beautiful classic round shape with seamless layers and exceptional shine.” To get your own style update, visit the KMS California Style Station at the show where a team of experts are on hand to provide hints, tips and advice on how to care for and style your hair. Get a haircut with a KMS California style expert*, and enjoy exclusive discounts on their range of gorgeous products.

* Bookings operate on a first come, first served basis.

Beauty

Ones to watch The Beauty Stage is packed with experts offering their top tips for skincare, make up, hair and what to wear. Here are some of our must-see speakers

Lisa Talbot Jam-packed wardrobe, nothing to wear? Award-winning stylist Lisa explains how to choose clothes to suit your body shape.

Nathalie Eleni The beauty therapist and stylist to the stars, explains how to understand your skin and view beauty in a new light.

Jayney Goddard Look younger the natural way with Jayney’s secrets on how keep your skin beautiful without the nip/tuck approach.

Try this…Colour Me Beautiful Understanding the colours that complement you can have a huge impact on your image and confidence. Franca McBarron from image consultancy, Colour Me Beautiful, will be giving talks on the Beauty Stage explaining colour and colour analysis as well as demonstrating the theories on audience members. Check out the timetable here.

Fiona Embleton Top Santé’s beauty editor fills us in on her top three ways to look younger

1

Flushed cheeks They were all over the SS12 catwalk so make space in your make up bag for a pink blusher. Tap it high up on your cheekbone and as far as the temple – there’s no quicker youth booster.

2

Skin protection UV rays and pollution encourage free-radical damage, which weakens our skin’s collagen and leads to the onset of wrinkles. Make sure that your day cream contains antioxidant vitamin C and E, an SPF of 30 or above, and has a UVA rating of at least four stars. Big hair A style with plenty of volume instantly knocks years off your hair as individual strands tend to thin with age. When blow-drying, use a paddle brush to lift your hair up and away from your scalp so that the heat gets to the roots.

3

Get more tips from Fiona on the Beauty Stage at the show.

Must-have bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation £24 The minerals in this foundation, which looks like a powder but feels like a cream, gradually improve the appearance of skin over time, dimishing the look of fine lines and wrinkles without drying out the skin. Magic in a pot. (Find bareMinerals on Stand B520 at the show)

Dr Marilyn Glenville PhD Marilyn is the UK’s leading nutritionist specialising in women’s health. We asked her for her top three tips to get rid of fat around the middle

1

Watch WHAT you eat – reduce or eliminate refined carbohydrates and added sugar because this helps to reduce cravings and stops you living on a roller coaster of energy highs and lows and mood swings.

2

Watch HOW you eat – little and often, no longer than three hours without eating as this stops your body storing fat and revs up your metabolism.

3

Take certain important vitamins, minerals, amino acids and essential fats – as these are known to help you lose that belly fat faster.

Get more advice from Marilyn on the Activia Health and Nutrition Stage at the show.

Try this… Swing by the Ovarian Cancer Action stand (H424) to check out Photography for Good and have a professional photo taken to create a memory of your day at the show. It can be fun or serious, alone or with your friends and the best bit is that all proceeds go to the charity.

Live well

Digestive issues affect most of us at some point – experts from the TLC Advice Lounge are on hand to answer some common niggles

Q

I’m currently experiencing mild tummy pains. Is there something wrong with my body?

A

Tummy pains are relatively common and can often be stress related, in which case you need to find ways to de-stress. If your problem isn’t stress related, try to avoid eating late meals, smoking or drinking excessive alcohol. However if you are in any way concerned about your health you should speak to your GP.

Q

I often feel bloated and sluggish. What can I do to prevent this?

A

There are a number of ways to reduce bloating, it’s just that many people aren’t aware of them. Sometimes changing your diet can really help. Other lifestyle changes such as reducing stress, doing more

exercise or changing the way you eat can make a difference.

Q

I’m having problems going to the toilet. Should I change my eating habits?

A

The answer to this will be different for each person. Some people may need to increase their fibre and liquid intake and drink more water, as this helps the digestive system function more effectively. For others, this will be less effective. If any of these queries sound familiar, visit the TLC Advice Lounge on the day to sign up for a free one-to-one consultation with an expert. The answer to your digestive health issues could be right around the corner.

Rebekah Fensome Live your life to the full with tips on combating stress, boosting digestion and taking time to relax with lifestyle coach Rebekah.
