Jasper, Alabama, is a city located in Walker County in the northwestern part of the state. As of 2023, the population of Jasper was estimated to be around 14,270 residents. Jasper serves as the county seat of Walker County and is situated approximately 40 miles northwest of Birmingham, Alabama’s largest city. Jasper has a rich history, with its origins dating back to the early 19th century. The city was named in honor of Sergeant William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero. In its early days, Jasper was a center for coal mining, which contributed significantly to the local economy.
