DAMEISHA OCEAN PARK

A beach park, an urban public space and a new transport system for the city of Dameisha, China. Our proposal for the redevelopment of Dameisha Park tries to address the different problems that affect this crucial leisure infrastructure for Shenzhen metropolitan region. The main questions we have identified are: 1 The threat of climate change, raising sea levels and typhoon risks, and the resilience of the park infrastructure in the face of such events. 2 The endemic problem of the loss of sand in the beach needs to be urgently addressed as part of a comprehensive coastal protection strategy which may provide opportunities to increase the beach infratructure. 3 The overcrowding of the park and the related transport infrastructures and the need to limit the access to the park during the festive season. This should be done while providing a better connectivity between the urban fabric and the park. Such an approach will surely require careful implementation planning, and possibly, the sequential closure of different areas of the park in order to replace the existing infrastructure. But considering the amount of infrastructural work which is already planned on the area, such closure appears almost inevitable, and should be used to upgrade the park infrastructure to an international standard. We have tried to address the existing infrastructural problems through a comprehensive landscape proposal aimed to recast the image of Dameisha Park as a world-class leisure infrastructure which will be easily recognized by a consistent aesthetic approach.

PROJECTS

CASILINA CULTURAL FORUM

Archeological park for the S.Elena mausoleum and paelochristian church of S.S.Marcellino and Pietro

The project deals with different scales. The first one, the territorial level, is an urban vacuum between the routes Casilina and Prenestina in the east suburb of Rome. The masterplan project aims at sewing up the margins and the different urban fabrics in order to create an athletic, and agricultural and an archeological park. The strategy is based on three paths which both start and end in a focal point, through naturalistic paths, mainly km 0 agricultural ones with a soft mobility. Prof: Alessandra The Museum Pole is obtained from a semi-abandoned lot of the ex-factory BluCapuano nata Balloon Spa, a discontinued and inhomogeneous court including a commercial building characterized by a curvilinear projecting roof and two industrial with a curved coverage. Year: V (2017-18) barns The project installation is composed by two buildings standing on a hypogeum base, one with the role of filtering in order to define the court setting, the other Team: Elisa Donini of Landmark for the neighborhood. The installation will therefore create three Noemi Domizi different spaces: an urban park, a transit area and a square. This latter is characterized by circular patios that function as accesses and skylights, while it is Viviana Dionisio possible to accede to the hypogeum platform also through monumental steps taking into account the preexistent different in height. The themed museum is placeid in the internal part of the industrial pavilions, whilst the project buildings contain an auditorium, a library and a media-library with the related cafeterias and departments. It a real cultural forum.

VOLCANO FLAMINIO: International competition for the City of Science of Rome. In 2013, the City of Rome announces a competition to transform the ex-military area in Via Guido Reni in Rome. The intervention focuses on the realization of a new urban area, the City of Science, serving as a functional hinge between the diverse characteristics of the site: culture, hospitality, leisure, tourism and housing. The name of the urban project is “Progetto Flaminio”. The architectural proposal, also submitted in the form of video montage, concerns a commercial pole conceived in the masterplan of by A&U ARCHITETTURA URBANISTA ENGINEERING SRL, a firm that attended the contest. The concept of the building refers to the shape of a Volcano, split in his centre by the residential building, the aim is to create a system of connected buildings, which reconnect the pre-existences of the neighbourhood. The building is divided into two parts, joined by a buffer zone. The east part is a clothing store, while the west area is a cafeteria on two floors. The building is framed around eco-sustainable motives in order to use new materials and technologies. the walls of the ‘volcano’ are inclined according to a defined angle due to the placement of the solar panels, aiming at gathering the highest number of sunbeams depending on the orientation. In southern and south-eastern part the walls are made of structural organic concrete, in order to form a tree façade to reach an ideal equilibrium between the opaque and the transparent part. The expected outcome is to create a boulevard after having placed a branch of trees on the opposite side of the pedestrian street.

beach. The objective of the course is to create a project related to the tupolev with the purpose of organizing and systematizing the area. The neighborhood is called Poblenou, an area of Barcelona which is poorly developed. Poblenou is featured by squared palaces/ courts - typical of the example - together with new buildings all over the area, which integrate the towers. The course demanded to find new housing accommodations, such as the Co-housing, and a suitable construction industry to the area by taking into account the measures and the relation with the sorrounding environment. The project is about three separate buildings placed in order to repair the urban front and the park that goes from the city to the sea. The buildings are divided into the higher ones, which have the function of co-housing, and the lower ones, which are ordinary residential ones and are distributed in thorns. They all have a wooden knitting façade for the upgoing vegetation and a single view on the sea. The open area is conceived as a union between the park and the city, through a stratagem of fusion between the vegetation with the paving. The area immediately underlying the buildings is made as a square with a dark pavement and water games aimed at creating game effects and light reflexes.

THE GAVA INDUSTRIAL AREA: new functions for a new life

The subject of the laboratory activity provides for a redevelopment of a small town in the south-west of Barcelone, GavĂ , by redefining an entire industrial area. The area is presented separated from the rest of the town due to the railroad which functions as a barrier, characterized by several pavilions partly dismissed. The project aims at reutilizing the dismissed pavilions and to upgrade the area by introducing functions at an extra-urban scale, such as buildings, shops, a museum, a market and areas destined to industrial exhibitions. The pavilions are thus systematically put together through green squares, urban parks, as well as linear squares and parks. In order to go beyond the railway barrier and link the city area, the project will redesign the road layout, by privileging the longitudinal and transverse streets for a cardo-decumanus system. Through an analysis of the abandoned pavilions and the removal of some of these latter, transverses streets are placed for the pedestrian mobility. These latter will connect the square system managed according to a modulated grid, with identical modules, which can be broken down through flowerbeds or with seats and urban furniture.

SUBURBS FLOWS:

dynamicism of the skyline, new services for a residential area In the north-.east suburbs of Rome there is the Vigne Nuove Val Melaina neighborhood, which is in deteriorated and degraded conditions. The issue is about a built up area made of courts, formed by 6 residential buildings with a U-shape and a lower building, of two floors, which will close each square and destined to the neighborhood services. These latter buildings are currently occupied by homeless people and immigrants. The purpose of the course was to requalify one of the courts through a re-design of the park, since it presented a big difference in height, and of the building for the neighborhood services after having identified the most suitable services. The Project submits a new building with transparent vertical divisions and characterized by a curved coverage for the skyline movement of the context. The building is planimetrically divided into two blocks, though united at a higher level by the same coverage in order to create a passage filter from the street to the court. The identifies functions are the rec center and the media library for both children and teenagers, a cafeteria and a restaurant for all ages and social classes. On the other hand, the park originated from daily necessities, the pathways and the area divisions for the users of the place: play yards and break rooms. The planning is deals also with the selection of the essences for the green areas and the boulevards. The courses provided for a sensitization towards the eco-sustainable architecture, as the project takes into account the orientation and the use of sustainable technologies, such as the diversification of glass among lower-emission on the north and selective on the south, the placement of water tanks in the southern part and the realization of a buffer zone in the transit area between the two blocks.

THE MAXXI EXPLAIN ITSELF: Exhibition about the international competition for the MAXXI museum The course is about a project aimed at setting up one of the rooms of the MAXXI, a

Interior design museum by Zaha Hadid. The theme of the exhibition is the implementation of the conand Museum test for the realization of the MAXXI itself, meaning that the building has to explain itself alone. The purpose is to describe the history of the contest during its phases regarding Studio

the publication of the call, the selection procedure, the judgement on the examinations and finally the publication of the winners, as well as explain the realization of the winning Prof: Andrea project in its executive phases. The concept divides the chosen room in 4 settings based on the phases of the contest: the first stage will explain the implementation through Grimaldi panels and sketches; a detailed study on the neighborhood contains the scale model of the context in which the single models of the projects of the participants had to be Year: IV (2017) placed. The second one, which is more extended, will show the prepared projects of the 15 participants between the tables of the contest and the related model, exposed Team:Giulia Necci in alphabetical order. The third stage is sub-phase of this latter, illustrating the three final Viviana Dionisio participants and the winner with the related reasons; finally, the last phase contains the models definitive to the different scales and the evolution of the winning project until its realization through eventual panels and summarizing timelines. The course included a deepening study of the ostensive System between the settings: opaque walls are used as barriers to carry on with the path, interrupting and bending to mark the passages. The longest phase, which is the one on the examination of the participants, is set through L walls that circumscribe each project, putting in the middle of each one an iron table to illustrate the contest model.

ARCHITECTURE and NATURE Realization of tematic placements for the 4 elements and of a memorial project. The course is divided into two parts. The former deals with the theme of the four elements of architecture and landscape, with specific themed lessons and ephemeral illustrations. The territory required a cubic type of architecture, which had to be realized as a model to insert in nature, and to deal with subjects such as panoramas and differences in heights. About the water, it wanted to focus on the features of reflection, refraction, absence of form and dynamism in the relationship with the landscape, the architecture and the human figure. For what concerns the air, it was analyzed its implication of the vegetation regarding the obstacles they represent, the sounds they produces, and the variations they experience with the climate and seasons. The second part of the course provided for the study and the subsequent realization of an ephemeral installation, though made on a human scale in a memorial park. The reflection referred to the feelings derives from the spanish republican exodus for the civil war. Through the study of the historical event and the analysis of the witnesses, the perceived feelings are the ones of fear, loneliness, suffering, hope. For this reason the idea was a corridor with the exact dimension of the transit of a sole person, so that the experience can be in total loneliness. The walls will not be opaque but semi-transparent in order to be capable to see the external world but not to touch it, as if it was the window of a train while it leaves all the past ahead for a new life.
