Vivian Liang
Hi I’m Vivian Liang, an illustrator from Taiwan.
I really love to draw and have been learning drawing for two years. During those two years, I started from sketching real life and moved on to drawing life models and landscape paintings. I love to try out different mediums, including colored pencils, graphite pencils, oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and charcoals. I’m currently studying Visual Development, which is a major focusing on character, prop, and environment design for feature animation, live action, and film at Academy of Art University.

Landscape Painting
These paintings are from my landscape painting class, we usually spent three to four hours on locations, starting from taking pictures and setting up equipments. After setting up equipments we would do several quick value studies and then started to paint. We usually won’t finish these paintings on location. If we’re satisfied with the composition ,we would complete the painting in studio.

Self Portraits
I used Carbothello pastel pencil Caput Mortuum Red and Titanium White to finish this piece. We first took pictures of ourself, but pictures are for reference only. Instructor required us to draw from life, which is base on mirror refelctions. We were told to observe ourself in mirror and make refinements.
I used kneaded eraser to pick up some pastel from the inner side of the hair, and adjust the portion of my facial features.
Drawings
The focus here is to get the shadow shapes correct, since it’s they that decide the structure of form.
Illustration
Before color the linear artwork, we have to do a value study first. The area where the value contrast the most is the first focal point
color study
Day dreaming These are basic sketch, value study and color study of my art work “Day dreaming.
I try to put most contrast on my first focal point, the girl standing on the desk.
Since this art piece is talking about day dreaming, I use mostly low saturated and high key colors. I put low saturated yellow and purple on the girl, to make her look obvious
