FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The voice controlled guest room - the future is now VIVID working with Amazon Alexa for Hospitality Tring, Hertfordshire, 16th October 2018 VIVID is pleased to announce that it is working with global technology giant Amazon, to help them develop their Alexa for Hospitality solution for the European market.

This summer Amazon announced a raft of established partnerships with hoteliers in the US arena, and they are now in the process of expanding the service outside their domestic marketplace. By the end of 2018, more than 100 million smart speakers will have been sold globally (in just under three years since launch), and the rate of consumer adoption is growing

dramatically. The UK market is the world’s third-largest, and it doubled in size during just the first six months of 2018 (source: YouGov and Canalys). Together with solutions such as VIVID’s SMART Lighting system, Amazon Alexa for Hospitality provides hotel operators with in-room voice control of services such as lighting, air

conditioning, blinds and more. It also integrates seamlessly with existing amenities and services, to become a guest’s virtual concierge. Alexa simplifies tasks such as playing music, ordering towels, finding local restaurants and attractions, calling, and even checking out. Alexa helps operators to personalise their guest offering, and makes delivering a great customer experience simple. Together with Amazon, VIVID are looking for hoteliers who want to lead the market, by trialling Alexa voice control in proof-of-concept rooms. VIVID’s Managing Director David King commented:

“Voice control is a future that has already arrived. Hoteliers that aren’t planning on adding the technology soon, run a very real risk of being left behind by rapidly changing consumer behaviours. Given that AirBnB now has a larger portfolio than the top 6 global hotel operators combined, and the fact that the vast majority of smart speakers have been sold into that domestic sector, it could be said that the hospitality market’s largest disruptor already has a first-mover position. Amazon Alexa for Hospitality offers hoteliers a real counter-offer though, particularly by ensuring that guests will be able to experience a fully resolved and secure solution. At VIVID, we believe that there are three key areas to plan for: Technical, Commercial and Operational. Together with Amazon, we are now looking to partner with forward-thinking operators, who can gain valuable research and intelligence by being amongst the first to launch in the UK.”
