Project Information Location Katy, TX
Square Footage 8,250 sf Construction Cost $35,776,167
The Gerald D. Young Agricultural Science center provides ample space for student exhibitions, expanded parking, and space requirements as future high schools are built. The facility is designed to incorporate sustainable, high performance design concepts of the “Collaborative for High Performance Schools” (CHPS) program. The proposed facilities use increased natural light, improved indoor air quality, incorporate the use of sustainable materials to further enhance the educational environment, and provide a maintenance-friendly facility for Katy ISD.

The LEED® Platinum and Net-Zero Energy complex houses a new classroom building and outdoor pavilion, all intended to drive curriculum for students within the college’s agriculture program. Sustainable components built into the design include a rainwater harvest catchment basin, energy-efficient pumps, a lighting-control system and a photovoltaic solar array, intended to provide on-site renewable energy. An energy management dashboard display in the building lobby allows individuals a chance to see the energy being produced by both the solar array and wind turbine in contrast to the energy being consumed. The energy produced on site is enough to power the building throughout the year.
