Charles Hard “Chuck” Beckham ’43 of Fulshear, Texas, died Nov. 22, 2021. He was 100.

He matriculated from Lakeland, Florida, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from VMI. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Clinard Beckham.

Thomas Norwood Layne III ’62, Ph.D., of Killen, Alabama, died Nov. 4, 2021. He was 81.

Taras Joseph Galysh ’67 of East Berlin, Pennsylvania, died Nov. 5, 2021. He was 75.

Isaac Russell “Russ” Quay II ’70 of Cookeville, Tennessee, died Nov. 30, 2021. He was 75.

Virginia “LaVone” Byers Chaplin of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Dec. 10, 2021. She was 82.

She worked in Preston Library for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Melvin Lee Chaplin, and brothers, Lemuel Sherwood Byers Sr. and Maurice Loran Byers Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Annabel Lee Vanscyoc Horward.
