Cuéntanos acerca de tí. De dónde vienes, cómo llegaste a donde estás y dónde te ves en el futuro. Soy originaria de Tyler, TX, pero me mudé a Longview cuando era niña para vivir en un refugio para mujeres y niños maltratados. Me gradué de Longview HS y obtuve mi licenciatura en enfermería de UT Tyler. Soy una enfermera registrada y trabajé en el campo de la enfermería hasta el 2016, cuando compré esta agencia a mi suegro, Sam Azzam. Me encanta esta oficina y esta comunidad. Me veo aquí cuidando a mis clientes asi come cuidé a mis pacientes durante mucho tiempo.

¿En qué tipo de grupos comunitarios o eventos estás involucrada Soy Embajador de la Cámara de Kilgore y recibí el premio de Embajador del Año en 2017. También formo parte de la junta directiva del Centro de Mujeres del Este de Texas (el refugio en el que viví cuando era niña). También formo parte de la junta directiva para el Este de Texas CASA y el Centro de Tratamiento del Este de Texas.

¿Hay algo específico que haga su oficina para ayudar a la comunidad? (Drives o eventos) Ayudé a obtener una subvención para el Centro de Crisis del Este de Texas (el primer refugio en el que vivíamos) en nombre de mi agencia y de la Fundación Allstate, y actualmente estoy trabajando para conseguirles otra subvención con una unidad de aseo en mi oficina en este momento. También gané una subvención para el Este de Texas CASA en nombre de mi agencia y la fundación Allstate debido al trabajo voluntario que he realizado para CASA.

¿Qué te trajo al mundo de los seguros? Mi suegro se jubilaba y me ofreció la oportunidad de ser dueño de mi propio negocio, el negocio familiar. Como mi esposo, mi suegra y mi cuñada eran dueños de sus propias agencias de Allstate, sabía en qué me metería. Desde entonces, creo que las oportunidades se dan por una razón, ¡tuve fe y aproveché la increíble oportunidad!

¿Cuál es tu cosa favorita de ayudar a la comunidad? Tal vez un evento favorito que te gusta? Me gusta ayudar a nuestra comunidad, porque esta comunidad me ayudó. De niño, vivíamos en refugios y vivíamos en la pobreza. Mis navidades a menudo venían de los árboles de ángel y nuestra comida a menudo venía de despensas de alimentos. Si no fuera por las personas desinteresadas en el este de Texas, no estaría donde estoy hoy. La única forma en que sé cómo demostrar que estoy agradecida es a cambio. Mi evento favorito es la unidad de artículos de tocador que se lleva a cabo en mi oficina en noviembre. Esto es cuando la comunidad realmente muestra cuán impresionantes son. El año pasado, el Departamento de Policía de Kilgore y el Departamento de Bomberos de Kilgore, así como muchas, muchas personas en la comunidad trajeron artículos de tocador a mi oficina, y llevé un automóvil o artículos de tocador completamente llenos al refugio. Cosas como estas son las que muestran cuán grande es nuestra comunidad.

Cuéntanos acerca de tu herencia ... ¿cómo sientes que ha jugado un papel en la formación de quién eres? Soy hispana Mi mamá es americana y mi papá es de Durango, México. Cuando era más joven, no me gustaba ser diferente, pero cuanto más envejecía, más me daba cuenta de que ser diferente era una ventaja para mí. La gente tiene ideas erróneas de los hispanos, y me gusta probar que están equivocados. ------------------------------------------------------------ Tell us about yourself. Where you come from, how you got to where you are, and where you see yourself in the future.) I'm originally from Tyler, TX but moved to Longview as a child to live in a shelter for battered women and children. I graduated from Longview High School, and got my Bachelor's in nursing from UT Tyler. I am a registered nurse and worked in the nursing field until 2016 when I purchased this agency from my father-in-law, Sam Azzam. I love this office and this community. I see myself here taking care of my clients as well as I took care of my patients for a long time to come.

What sort of community groups or events are you involved in? I am a Kilgore Chamber Ambassador and received the Ambassador of the Year award in 2017. I'm also on the board for the Women's Center of East Texas (the shelter that I lived in as a child.) I'm also on the board for East Texas CASA as well as

the East Texas Treatment Center.

Are there any specific things your office does to help the community? I helped get a grant for the East Texas Crisis Center (the first shelter that we lived in) on behalf of my agency and the Allstate Foundation, and I'm currently working on getting them another grant with a toiletry drive in my office at this time. I also earned a grant for East Texas CASA on behalf of my agency and the Allstate foundation due to the volunteer work that I've done for CASA.

What brought you in to the insurance world? My father-in-law was retiring and offered me the opportunity to own my own business, the family business. Since my husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law all owned their own Allstate agencies, I knew what I would be getting into. Since, I believe that opportunities are given for a reason, I had faith and took the amazing opportunity!

What is your favorite thing about helping the community? Maybe a favorite event you like? I like helping our community, because this community helped me. As a child, we lived in shelters and lived in poverty. My Christmases often came from Angel Trees and our food often came from food pantries. If it weren't for the selfless people in East Texas, I wouldn't be where I am today. The only way that I know how to show that I'm grateful is to give back. My favorite event is the toiletry drive that takes place in my office in November. This is when the community really shows how awesome they are. Last year, the Kilgore Police Department and the Kilgore Fire department as well as many, many people in the community brought toiletries to my office, and I took a completely full car or toiletries to the shelter. Things like this are what show how great our community is.

Tell us about your heritage…..how do you feel it has played a role in shaping who you are? I am Hispanic. My mom is American and my dad is from Durango, Mexico. When I was younger, I didn't like to be different, but the older I got, the more I realized that being different was to my advantage. People have misconceptions of Hispanics, and I like to prove them wrong.
