About the Author This is the first book from Evie-Alice who loves writing stories and draws non-stop! This is the first of many adventures about Gastoff and his friends. It is about recycling, something we are all having to do. Evie-Alice wanted to tell other children about things that happen in everyday life, but using her character to do so. Gastoff the Penguin is her own creation. Evie loves drawing cartoon characters, so decided to create this story for him.

Gastoff is a friendly, young penguin who loves to find out about the world around him. On his adventures his friends help him learn new things. He is called Gastoff because he does not only fly with his wings but his flying is powered by his parps! Gastoff can travel at up to 400mph depending on how many healthy things he’s eaten that day! He leaves a whitish/grey cloud of gas behind him. Gastoff eats very healthily and always has his five-a-day. At school he has friends that support him every day. They are honest and caring, which is important in a friendship! Of course, as Gastoff has lots of wind, his friends find him very funny and have a giggle with him most days. This book is about Gastoff and his friends finding out about recycling.

“Can I help you?” said a voice coming from beside Gastoff .

He turned to see Miss Daisy ready to talk to him.

Yes Please!

Then Miss Daisy said “Do you want to know about being green?” “Yes please” said Gastoff politely

“Well, there are three different recycling colours. Usually there is one green for plastic, also a brown - for paper and cardboard and the black is for anything

BagS

Miss Daisy also explained that in different places around the world, people put their rubbish in boxes, bags, wheely bins and other containers. They may be different colours but they all do the same job.

“But where does it all go?”

Clothes If you have clothes that you no longer wear or use, they can be recycled by taking them to your local supermarket and putting them in the clothes bin and then they will be re-made into other things.

Miss Daisy continued to say “There are all sorts of glass we can collect like jars, beer bottles, milk bottles, wine bottles and more

GLASS FACTORY

Miss Daisy continued, “once the glass bottles are collected by the bin lorry from your home, the glass is taken to a special factory where the glass is crushed and melted to make new bottles and jars.

We recycle paper to save people cutting down trees, and we use the recycled paper for making more paper and cardboard.

“So what have you learnt about recycling today?”

“I have learnt that everyone can help the environment no matter what age they are or where they are in the world.
