BC Sikh Gurdwara Council asks Public Safety Minister to investigate foreign interference in Malik’s murder

THE BC Sikh Gurdwara Council has written to Canada’s Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino “to investigate foreign interference” in the murder of prominent businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik who was shot dead outside his business establishment in Surrey on July 14. Malik, 75, who had been acquitted in the 1985 Air India bombing case in 2005, was a founder of the Khalsa Credit Union and Khalsa School. The Council told Mendicino: “Our purpose in writing to you is to urge you to ensure that the investigation into the murder of Mr. Malik is conducted thoroughly and transparently, including an investigation into the potential involvement of Indian intelligence agencies.” Surrey’s Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara President Hardeep Singh Nijjar has denounced reports in the Indian media that linked him to Malik’s murder. Our purpose in writing to you is to urge you to ensure that the investigation into the murder of Mr. Malik is conducted thoroughly and transparently, including an investigation into the potential involvement of Indian intelligence agencies. Aside from the immediate criminal investigation, Canadian intelligence and security agencies must also assess whether Indian intelligence operatives had any prior knowledge of the crime, and whether such agencies or foreign actors have been involved in influencing the media portrayal of the shooting or the subsequent political discourse that is emerging across the country.

Analyzing sources in the public domain, there is significant evidence on the record establishing that Indian officials and intelligence operatives have manufactured news coverage, offered bribes to media outlets to influence their reporting, and amplified targeted messages for several decades. This has been done to further Indian interests and comes at the cost of vilifying the Sikh community in Canada. A 1988 Globe & Mail investigation revealed that Indian intelligence agents had established a network of paid informers and agent provocateurs to penetrate Canada’s Sikh community to further this purpose since the 1980s. More recently, the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) has published multiple reports pertaining to foreign interference. Despite being heavily redacted with regards to the findings of foreign interference by India, a 2018 report made it clear that Indian op-

eratives orchestrated an ongoing campaign to amplify a single narrative, emphasizing Indian national security while delegitimizing Canada’s Sikh community as extremists. National Security & Intelligence Advisor, David Jean, also went on the record to state clearly that Indian intelligence operatives were actively fabricating and promoting a false narrative through Canadian media outlets. This is further corroborated by the findings of the Federal Court of Canada in AB v Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2020 FC 461 which established that Indian intelligence operatives directly interfered in Canadian electoral processes, government policy, and media independence by explicitly tasking an individual to “covertly influence Canadian government representatives and agencies on behalf of the Indian government.” These nefarious activities not only undermine Canadian institutions and impact Sikhs as a racialized

group by convincing governments to repress vulnerable communities, but the lack of public acknowledgement also emboldens Indian officials to continue violating human rights in Punjab and abroad in the absence of any condemnation from the global community. The ongoing criminalization of Sikh activists in foreign countries as a result, is an extension of India’s criminalization of dissent domestically and its foreign interference and espionage. As the Minister of Public Safety, it is imperative that you thoroughly investigate these activities in a transparent manner in relation to the murder of Ripudaman Singh Malik and beyond. The results of such an investigation must further be made public in order to ensure that all communities in Canada are protected from these illegal attempts to undermine Canada’s political institutions and journalistic freedoms. We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Deployments, hiring and financials on track for Surrey Police Service “SPS has received over 900 applications for our 2022 new recruit positions” BY CHIEF CONSTABLE NORM LIPINSKI Surrey Police Service AT the end of July, Surrey Police Service (SPS) will reach another important milestone as we surpass more than 100 SPS of�icers deployed into policing operations. Our deployed of�icers are responding to calls for service and working in a number of specialized units to support public safety in Surrey. In August, we will welcome approximately 25 more experienced of�icers who will start their onboarding training with SPS in preparation for future deployments. As per the joint SPS-RCMP Human Resources Strategy and Plan, more SPS of�icers are being deployed every two months as the policing transition from the RCMP to SPS continues to advance. Our �irst class of new recruits are currently training at the Justice Institute of BC Police Academy, and in September we will welcome our second class of new recruits. In total, SPS has received over 900 applications for our 2022 new recruit positions. With such a great response, we have been able to select outstanding, community-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds. In order to further improve our recruiting strategies, we have launched a Recruiting and Diversity Survey to learn more about the challenges and barriers that may exist for some community members in pursuing a career in policing. Coquitlam RCMP looking for escaped convict Rabih (Robby) Alkhalil who is on trial in the deaths of gangsters Sandip Duhre and Sukh Dhak

COQUITLAM RCMP are looking for the public’s help to find an inmate who is unlawfully at large (UAL) after leaving the North Fraser Pre-trial located at 1451 Kingsway Avenue in Port Coquitlam on Thursday. On July 21, at 7:30 p.m., Coquitlam RCMP were advised by the staff of North Fraser Pre-Trial Center that one of their inmates — Rabih Alkhalil (Robby) — had escaped from lawful custody. At this time, the RCMP is working closely with B.C Corrections and the investigation is ongoing. Alkhalil is confirmed to have left in a white Econoline van with two others who were posing or employed as contractors. The van left North Fraser Pre-trial Center at approximately 6:48 p.m., and travelled westbound on Kingsway Avenue. Alkhalil is described as: A 35-year-old Middle Eastern man; Short black hair, and brown eyes; 5’10 tall (178 cm), and weighs 166 lbs (75 kg); Last seen wearing a black jump suit and a high visibility vest. Alkhalil is considered dangerous, so if you see Alkhalil, police ask that you not approach him and instead call 911 immediately. ALKHALIL and Hells Angel Larry Ronald Amero have been on trial in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver since June 2021 in relation to the murder

He had left B.C. for Mexico in 2013 after he was threatened with deportation for cocaine trafficking. Khalil Alkhalil, 19, was shot to dead in Surrey in 2001 during a conflict over a $200 drug debt; and Mahmoud Alkhalil, 19, was killed in a gangland shoot-out in the Loft Six nightclub in Vancouver’s Gastown in 2003.

UBC Professor Sudip Shekhar is first Canadian recipient of Schmidt Science Polymaths award UNIVERSITY of British Columbia researcher Dr. Sudip Shekhar is the first Canadian to receive the prestigious Schmidt Science Polymaths Award, which supports 10 recently tenured professors with “extraordinary talent” who are looking to explore promising interdisciplinary research. Shekhar, an associate professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at UBC’s faculty of applied science, will receive approximately $3 million (US $2.5 million) over five years to realize an ambitious dream: a highly compact biomedical sensor that can make medical diagnosis much faster, easier and cheaper than it has ever been. “This biomedical sensor will be portable, disposable and accessible,” says Shekhar, a former circuits research scientist at Intel who completed his bachelor’s at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur and his master of science and PhD degrees at the University of Washington. He believes that biomedical testing is overdue for miniaturization, similar to how computers have been downsized from room size machines to the size of a smartphone. “Imagine an inexpensive credit-card-sized medical testing kit that can collect data for viruses, cardiac, neurological and other ailments. By combining the power of silicon and photonics we are coming closer to this reality,” he says. Such a device would be ideal for point-ofcare biomedical testing, and improve access to medical testing for remote communities and emergency services. Ultimately this technology can also be used at drivethrough testing centres or pharmacies and for home use. Three youth plead guilty in unprovoked stabbing in Burnaby

THREE youth offenders have entered guilty pleas in connection to a stabbing that occurred outside a party on October 23, 2021, in North Burnaby. The 15-year-old male victim was stabbed in the torso shortly after arriving at a residential house party. He was swarmed by the three male youth suspects who were not friends with him. The suspects fled the area prior to police arriving but were quickly identified by police, Burnaby RCMP said. The victim has since recovered from his serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. “We want the public, and specifically youth, to know that we take these swarming assaults seriously,” said Cpl. Alexa Hodgins. “Our officers worked tirelessly to identify and bring the offenders to justice. These types of attacks are not acceptable in our community.” In this incident, Burnaby RCMP said they were not aware of any social media video posts of the assault; however, the suspects were quickly identified. In early July, two of the three youth suspects received sentencing, which included charges for aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The third offender has entered a guilty plea but is awaiting sentencing.

Male and female stabbed in Surrey home

SURREY RCMP are investigating after two people were injured in a stabbing at a residence in Surrey. On Friday, July 22 at approximately 3 a.m., police were called to a home in the 13000-block of 101B in Surrey for a report of a stabbing. Police located two adult victims, a male and a female, suffering injuries consistent with stab wounds. First aid was rendered on scene, and both victims were transported to hospital. They are currently in stable condition. Police said that early indications are that this incident stemmed from an altercation that preceded the stabbing. Police are working to identify all parties involved, including possible suspects and will be continuing with canvassing in the area, looking for CCTV footage and anyone with dash cam. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit at 604599-0502.

Brandon Nandan of New Westminster gets 15 years in CFSEU-BC-led investigation into drug trafficking BRANDON Nandan, a 29-year-old male from New Westminster, has been convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison after being charged with 17 criminal offences following a Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC)-led investigation that proactively targeted an alleged drug trafficking network and involved an alleged conspiracy to commit murder. In late 2020, CFSEU-BC worked with Surrey RCMP and Burnaby RCMP in response to information learned of an alleged conspiracy to commit murder. The investigation identified one suspect who was believed to be plotting to commit the murder. Due to an increased risk to the public because of the potentially lethal drugs being produced and distributed in the Lower Mainland, CFSEUBC worked with Surrey RCMP, who released

public safety bulletins warning of these potentially lethal batches of drugs being distributed. In December 2020, CFSEU-BC, with assistance from Burnaby RCMP, Surrey RCMP, and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Emergency Response Team (LMD IERT), executed search warrants in multiple jurisdictions around the Lower Mainland. According to CFSEU-BC, the suspect was found at one of the search locations and was arrested. The following was seized as a result of the search warrants: • 1 kg of fentanyl • 1 kg of methamphetamine • 1kg of cocaine • several firearms • 2 firearms suppressors • Various prohibited and non-prohibited weapons

On March 18, 2021, Nandan was charged with a raft of Criminal Code and drug offences, and on May 25, he was charged with an additional offence. On July 20, 2022, Nandan pleaded guilty to: • trafficking in fentanyl • possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking • possession of a loaded 9mm caliber Beretta model 92FS semi automatic pistol • counselling person A to commit the indictable offence of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life of A.B. which offence was not committed • transferring a 9mm calibre CZ model TT9 semiautomatic pistol • possession of a Polymer80 PF940C 9mm pistol, contrary to s. 95(1) of the code • possession of controlled substances (fentanyl,

cocaine and methamphetamine) for the purpose of trafficking Nandan was sentenced to a total of 15 years imprisonment with a mix of consecutive and concurrent sentences for the offences he pleaded guilty to. Considering his time already served of two years and seven days, the total remaining sentence is 12 years and 358 days. “As the provincial anti-gang agency, CFSEU-BC continues to proactively target individuals linked to violent gang activities and opioid trafficking that too often victimizes the most vulnerable in our communities,” said CFSEU-BC’s Deputy Operations Officer, Superintendent Duncan Pound. “Working with the Surrey RCMP and Burnaby RCMP, CFSEU-BC investigators were able to thwart a murder plot, disrupt other violent acts that would have endangered innocent lives, and prevent additional opioid-related deaths.”

Two people charged in connection to New Westminster assault and armed robbery ON July 13, New Westminster Police made a public appeal for CCTV footage following an assault and armed robbery near the corner of McKenzie Street and Clarkson Street. The New Westminster Police Department

patrol officers soon identified two suspects at which time the Major Crime Unit assumed conduct of the investigation. With the assistance of the Street Crime Unit, the Gang Suppression Unit, and the Crime Reduction Unit,

these two suspects were located and safely arrested. At the time of the arrest, one of the suspects was in possession of a loaded handgun. Danielle Levesque, 33, of New Westminster has been charged with robbery with a firearm, and assault with a weapon. Eugene Cottrelle, 36, of New Westminster has been charged with robbery with a firearm,

assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and possession of a loaded firearm. “A number of different specialty units worked together to identify and arrest these two suspects,” said Sgt. Justine Thom. “We’d also like to extend our appreciation to the citizens of New Westminster who worked with us in this investigation. Working together is the most effective way to maintain community safety.”

B.C. ending immigration detention arrangement with CBSA BC Corrections will provide CBSA with 12 months’ written notice

MIKE Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, on Thursday announced that BC Corrections was ending its arrangement with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on the management of individuals held under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Farnworth said in a statement: “In the fall of 2021, I committed to a review of BC Corrections’ arrangement with the CBSA on holding immigration detainees in provincial correctional centres. This review examined all aspects of the arrangement, including its effect on public safety and whether it aligns with the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners and expectations set by Canadian courts. “As part of the review, BC Corrections engaged with multiple external stakeholders and advocacy groups, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, and incorporated their input. “The review brought to light that aspects of the arrangement do not align with our government’s commitment to upholding humanrights standards or our dedication to pursuing

CBSA may still hold migrants in a detention centre, but this a significant first step towards affirming the human rights of detainees. I applaud B.C. for take this important step and I hope that other provinces will follow suit,” she said. In March, Govender had urged B.C. to cancel its agreement with CBSA in a submission to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General . “According to CBSA data, 94 per cent of immigration detainees are held for administra-

tive reasons and pose no risk to the public. Detaining innocent migrants in jails is cruel, unjust and violates human rights commitments,” said Govender. “Now, it is up to the federal government to abolish all migrant detention and expand the use of communitybased alternatives that support individuals.” Almost nine thousand people across Canada, including 138 children, were forced into detention in the year prior to the pandemic (Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International report). Migrants report being handcuffed, shackled, searched, subjected to solitary confinement, restricted to small spaces with rigid routines, and placed under constant surveillance with severely limited access to the outside world. “There is strong evidence that racialized people and those with disabilities experience harsher treatment and are detained for longer periods of time,” said Govender. “Across Canada, migrants are detained for non-criminal purposes and for indefinite periods of time, which violates international human rights law and can result in devastating impacts on migrants’ health and well-being.”

New homebuyer protection period A new homebuyer protection period will protect people in B.C. looking to buy a home from being pressured into high-risk sales, the Province announced on Thursday. The period is the first of its kind in Canada and marks the first key action the Province is taking based on the B.C. Financial Services Authority’s (BCFSA) report on ways to offer homebuyers better consumer protection in the real estate market. The mandatory three-day period will give homebuyers an opportunity to take important steps, such as securing financing or arranging home inspections, as they prepare to make one of their biggest financial decisions. “Too many people have been faced with giving up an inspection in order to buy a home,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Finance. “This is a major step toward providing homebuyers with the peace of mind they deserve while protecting the interests of people selling their homes – for today’s market and in the future.” The homebuyer protection period will come into effect on January 1, 2023. It includes a

For example, if the purchaser exercises the right of rescission on a $1-million home, they would be required to pay $2,500 to the seller. Buyers still may make offers conditional on home inspections or financing at any time. The protection period will offer homebuyers

the opportunity for due diligence at times when conditions are not in place. The homebuyer protection period is informed by the results of consultations that the BCFSA completed this year with a wide range of real estate industry stakeholders, including home inspectors, appraisers, realtors and academics, as well as representatives from the legal and financial services sectors. The Province said it will continue studying the BCFSA’s advice and its potential effects to further strengthen public confidence in the real estate market. Blair Morrison, CEO, B.C. Financial Services Authority, said: “Buying and selling a home are the most significant financial transactions in most people’s lives. The parameters to implement a homebuyer protection period, as well as other potential consumer protection enhancements, set forth in BCFSA’s advice to the government, are designed to give British Columbians appropriate time to exercise due diligence. “Our advice is based on consultations with over 140 stakeholders, including industry experts and public-interest organizations.

We want to promote confidence in real estate transactions and our advice is aligned with that outcome.” Jonathan Sheppard, President, Home Inspectors Association BC, said: “Home inspections help to eliminate some of the potential costly risks involved in purchasing while helping to make an informed decision. The Province is investing as much as $6.5 million over three years for the centre, while the federal government is providing as much as $10 million over five years through Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan). The centre, which will officially open in September, has begun taking applications from small and medium-sized agritech operations throughout the province. It will focus on developing, testing and piloting solutions in simulated and real-world environments to be farm-ready for commercialization. Christopher Irwin is Burnaby homicide victim THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Saturday identified 31-year-old Christopher Irwin as Burnaby’s homicide victim to further their investigation and identify additional witnesses. IHIT said it believed the homicide was targeted and that there are no further known risks to the public at this time. Coquitlam RCMP had said last March that Irwin was

known to police. On July 14 at 9:46 a.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to a vacant lot in the area of Norland Avenue and Laurel Street after a member of the public located a deceased adult male. IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with Burnaby RCMP, the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD), BC Coroners Service and the

RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS). At approximately 4:30 a.m. on July 14, New Westminster Police responded to a vehicle fire in the 400-block of Fader Street. IHIT believes this vehicle to be linked to the homicide investigation and has taken conduct of the scene. “We are releasing Mr. Irwin’s name in hopes that witnesses will come forward who can assist us in

On Thursday, July 21, at 11 a.m., the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment RCMP (UFVRD) responded to a report of two women and a man suffering from gunshot wounds at a residence in the 9700-block of McNaught Avenue in Chilliwack. Officers located one woman already deceased and a second woman suffering life-threatening injuries. The second woman was airlifted to Roy-

Chandigarh (IANS): In a major police crackdown on Wednesday, two sharpshooters — Jagroop Rupa and Manpreet Manu — allegedly involved in the killing of famed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala were shot dead by Punjab Police on the outskirts of Amritsar close to the India-Pakistan border. They were holed up inside a farmhouse and were eliminated in a fivehour exchange of fire. An AK-47 rifle and a pistol were recovered from the encounter site. Moose Wala was gunned down on May 29 close to his native village near Mansa in Punjab. The operation was carried out by the Anti-Gangster Task Force at Bhakna village close to the Attari border, where Manpreet Singh, a.k.a. Manu, and Jagroop Singh, a.k.a. Rupa, were holed up. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav was present at the encounter spot.

London (IANS): Former British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, who resigned from his position because of differences with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, on Wednesday won the first stage of the contest to succeed Johnson as head of government among fellow Conservative MPs. He secured 137 votes. Facing Sunak in the second stage – a ballot of the full membership of the Conservative party – will be Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who obtained 113 votes. Third in the final round of voting by MPs was Minister of State for International Trade Penny Mordaunt, who won 105 votes, but was eliminated from the final contest which will now involve the Conservative rank and file. An MP, bitter about Mordaunt’s defeat, told media: “The nasty personal attacks in the (Daily) Mail and (Daily) Telegraph (both influential pro-Conservative newspapers) cut through.” It is commendable for Sunak, who is of East African Indian origin and has spent only seven years in parliament, to have emerged as the first choice among Conservative MPs. His has, in fact, been a meteoric rise from the backbenches to the second most powerful cabinet post in the British government – that of Chancellor. Kejriwal promises free electricity up to 300 units in Gujarat

Surat (IANS): Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday promised that his party will provide free electricity up to 300 units per month if voted to power in Gujarat. “If AAP comes to power in the state within three months of the formation of government, it will give free electricity up to 300 units per billing cycle, but if the consumer is using even one unit more than 300 units, one has to pay full bill. The idea is to encourage consumers to reduce power consumption. 24x7 power supply without disruption or power cut.” Kejriwal arrived here on Wednesday late evening for a day’s trip.

While addressing mediapersons, he said this is the first guarantee to the people of Gujarat and the party will roll out other guarantees in phases. 60 pilots, 150 cabin crew failed breath analyzer test

New Delhi (IANS): A total of 60 pilots and 150 cabin crew members tested positive following a breath analyzer (BA) test over the last two and a half years. Breath analyzer tests are conducted to ensure aviation safety is not compromised due to alcohol consumption by pilots and cabin crews. During the period from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2022, as per the provision of Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), no license has been cancelled. However, a total of 210 pilots

and crew members have been suspended. According to a Parliament reply on Thursday, there is a systematic safety oversight process in place for monitoring the compliance of Rules and Civil Aviation Requirements by the airlines. “This is a continuing process and includes surveillance, spot checks and regulatory audits embodied in Annual Surveillance Plan (ASP) of DGCA. The ballot box used in the Parliament House was first opened, followed by those from the states where MPs had cast their votes. During scrutiny, the valid and invalid ballot papers were separated and the value of first preference votes polled in favour of each candidate was determined. Overall, the 16th Presidential election was conducted in a free, fair and orderly manner in the Parliament House and across all the state capitals.

Chargesheet against 30 in vandalism at Delhi Chief Minister’s house, High Court told

New Delhi (IANS): The Delhi Police on Thursday apprised the High Court that it has filed a chargesheet before a lower court against 30 people in connection with the incident of vandalism that took place outside the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a protest on March 30. The police said this before a bench presided over by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj seeking to probe the incident. Advocate Sanjay Lao, on behalf of the Delhi Police, submitted the status report in a sealed cover. As an intensifying step of security, two gates would be put on both ends of the road leading to the Chief Minister’s residence, he said,

‘Centre discriminated against Punjab by keeping farmers out of MSP panel’ New Delhi (IANS): Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Thursday said the NDA government had discriminated against Punjab by keeping its farmers, government and agricultural experts out of the committee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) and even changed the aim and intentions of the committee which would lead to further discontentment and strife. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the Bathinda MP protested against the manner in which representatives of Punjab, including its farm and government representatives and agricultural experts, had been kept out of the committee even though Punjabis had been in the forefront of the farmers’ agitation, which had forced the government to withdraw the farm laws. Harsimrat Badal also questioned how the aim of the committee had been changed

She also highlighted how agricultural experts had been included from Jammu and Jabalpur and representation had been given to governments of Karnataka, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Sikkim, but Punjab had been ignored. “This has been done despite the fact that Punjab has served as the granary of the country and has made the maximum contri-

bution to the national food basket in the last seventy years.” Later while speaking to the media, Harsimrat Badal demanded the committee be reconstituted and expressed shock that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had not done anything to register Punjab’s strong protest at being left out of the committee. She said while AAP MPs from Punjab had earlier followed their high command’s dictate and held ‘dharnas’ in Parliament protesting against the delay in giving permission to its convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to visit Singapore, Congress MPs from Punjab were now protesting against questioning of party President Sonia Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate. “Both the AAP and Congress MPs have failed to protect the interests of Punjabis and voice their concerns in Parliament,” she added.

Punjab Police constable sustains gunshot injury from own AK 47

Chandigarh (IANS): A Punjab Police constable suffered a gunshot injury from his AK 47 rifle at a private hotel in Chandigarh on Wednesday, local police said. It suspected accidental firing as the bullet pierced through his stomach and a wall. Constable Deepak Singh along with his colleague Ankit Khokhar was staying in Hotel Diamond Plaza. They are attached to the security of Gurdaspur-based property dealer Simranjit Singh, who was staying in a highend hotel here.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gurmukh Singh told the media that Ankit told the police that his colleague went to the bathroom in the morning along with his AK47 gun. Later he heard a gunshot. “It is not clear how the victim suffered the (bullet) injury. He was admitted to the PGI Hospital,” the DSP said. But he added, “At this stage we cannot rule out any foul play. We have seized the AK-47.” The police said that when the incident took place, Khokhar was in the room.

Police said it appears that the SUV jumped a red light and collided with a Ford Figo.

The collision was so powerful that the cars flipped thrice. However, the airbags

of both vehicles saved the lives of the occupants. Islamabad (IANS): After a landslide victory in the by-elections to 20 constituencies of Pakistan’s Punjab province and being in a commanding position to regain the provincial government through the upcoming elections of the Chief Minister, Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has reiterated his demand for early general elections in the country, a demand rejected by the coalition ruling government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PMLN) government, after detailed consultation with its coalition partners, has unanimously rejected Khan’s demand and decided that the general elections in the country would be held on their scheduled time, disposing off the political pressure being applied by Khan.

Khan’s party currently has governments in Khyber Pukkhtunkhwa province, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir. And after securing the win

in Punjab, Khan will be poised to opt for the option of dissolving all the assemblies and forcing the Shehbaz Sharif government to leave office, bring in a caretaker setup for 90 days and have a general election in the country. The ruling government, on the other hand, is having secret meetings with partners of the PTI in Punjab and is working towards ensuring that the PTI doesn’t succeed in electing its Chief Minister. The government’s decision to continue ruling is bound to attract more political chaos in the coming days as Khan’s popular narrative has made a strong impression on the masses, who are not ready to accept what he calls an imported government brought into power through a US-led foreign conspiracy.

Sri Lanka President vows to crackdown on protesters

Colombo (IANS): Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was sworn in as Sri Lanka’s eighth President before the Parliament on Thursday, vowed to crackdown on protesters who took over President’s House and Prime Minister’s Office. Wickremesinghe, who was elected with 134 votes in the Parliament on Wednesday, said that “forcibly occupying the President’s Office and the Prime Minister’s Office under the guise of engaging in the people’s struggle was illegal.” He vowed that legal action would be initiated against those who occupied the President and PM’s offices by force. Wickremesinghe informed party leaders that he intends to prorogue Parliament for 24 hours for a “fresh ceremonial start”.

On July 15, 2022, at 8:40 a.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a woman and man suffering from gunshot wounds at a residence in the 22600 block of 119 Avenue, Maple Ridge, BC. Officers on scene provided emergency first aid to the woman, who later succumbed to her injuries in hospital. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries. IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS). The shooting does not appear to be random and there is no known risk to the public at this time. BC Government to Implement Homebuyer Protection Period in January 2023

The BC Government has created regulations that will enable a mandatory three-day Homebuyer Protection Period (HPP), previously called a “cooling off period,” on January 1, 2023. While BCREA supports enhanced consumer protection measures for real estate consumers, we are extremely disappointed by this announcement. We anticipate that the HPP will not be an effective measure, especially as market conditions are changing and becoming more balanced. BCREA offered more than thirty alternative recommendations in our paper published in our white paper, “A Better Way Home.” Many of these recommendations aligned with the BC Financial Services Authority’s report, “Enhancing Consumer Protection in BC’s Real Estate Market,” which was published in May. So far, the Ministry of Finance has ignored these recommendations, only choosing to move forwards with their Homebuyer Protection Period, which was announced before any consultation took place. The decision to implement an HPP undermines the independence and expertise of BCFSA and is concerning to Realtors and British Columbians. For consumers to truly be protected in a real estate transaction in BC, the government needs to empower BCFSA to conduct its own research on policies’ effectiveness, otherwise, there will continue to be a lack of positive changes to BC’s housing market. Lower their head and raise their feet to restore blood flow. If recovery is slow, get medical help.

PEOPLE have been swooning for joy since at least the 13th Century when the earliest recorded use of the word can be found. By the 20th Century, losing consciousness for love and rapture was a necessary attribute of a Southern belle. Even today, swooning has a positive connotation, defined as, “a few steps beyond being happy, but not so over the top that you scare children.” But change the language describing the same loss of consciousness and “blacking out like a light” is not so glamourous. Parents fainting with a thud on the floor most certainly gives the kids a fright. But how dangerous is fainting? And how common a problem is it? There have been some famous faints. Most recently, the 74-year-old America guitarist, Carlos Santana, passed out temporarily on stage in Michigan. Hillary Clinton had an episode during her Presidential campaign in 2016. In presidential circles, POTUS14, Franklin Pierce, was known as “Fainting Frank”. Both Bush Sr. and Jr. had unglamorous occasions. And Obama and Trump interrupted speeches to help nearby fainters. Fainting, otherwise known medically as syncope, is defined as a loss of consciousness followed by spontaneous recovery. It’s caused by a decreased flow of blood to the brain. People may feel nauseous or dizzy. Being in the hot sun or not being hydrated are risk factors. Doing something as simple as standing up can cause a faint. Blood pressure drops, reducing circulation to the brain. For the elderly, it becomes harder for their bodies to regulate blood pressure when moving from a lying or sitting position to standing. Among even the young and healthy, fainting might be caused by hunger, anxiety, emotional swings, or alcohol and drug use. According to various estimates, about 20-30% of the population has fainted at some point in life. In most cases, getting some rest is the easy prescription. But as with most things medical, prevention is the most prudent course. While the short loss of consciousness itself may not cause harm, seniors are prone to bad injuries when they fall from a faint. It can be disastrous if a faint occurs while driving. To understand whether a fainting episode is a one-time event from a missed cue to slow down or a more serious problem involving heart trouble, doctors need to evaluate the patient. An important clue is the speed of recovery. If recovery is not swift, it’s essential to get quick medical care. Doctors will want a full patient history. An important set of considerations will be the list of medications. People taking beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors which lower blood pressure may be more susceptible to trouble on hot days or when exerting themselves. Antihistamines are powerful allergy medications, but they can also be a factor in fainting episodes. These drugs interact with the nervous system and therefore have many side effects. A change in dose should always be discussed with a doctor, and people who self-medicate by boosting their dosage are playing games with their health. Other considerations will be recent bouts with ill health, including COVID, pneumonia, or any other common respiratory infection. Getting back to good health is job number one before pushing the pace at work or in leisure. It’s not easy to predict a faint or even to see
