Kamal Nath to be Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister

We accept people’s verdict with humility, says Modi

New Delhi: In spite of stiff opposition by Sikh organizations, the Congress in a controversial move decided to appoint Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh after a tense race for the state’s top post. Kamal Nath’s name is associated with mass killings of Sikhs in November 1984 in Delhi. Akalis and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee slammed the Congress for choosing Kamal Nath. The decision was made at a meeting convened soon after Kamal Nath reached Bhopal, along with party MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was the other contender for the post. Nath, 72, has been a nine-time Lok Sabha MP from Chhindwara and was backed by all MLAs and factions of the state. The two leaders had earlier met party President Rahul Gandhi in New

Delhi. Rahul Gandhi also met the party’s central observer for Madhya Pradesh AK Antony and consulted his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Congress party also tweeted about Kamal Nath being the next

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and said that an era of change will dawn in the state. “Our best wishes to Kamal Nath for being elected Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. An era of change is upon Madhya Pradesh with him at the helm,” the party said.

New Delhi (IANS): Observing that the Assembly election results in five states were a referendum on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said opposition parties would unitedly fight and defeat the BJP in 2019 elections with the central themes being unemployment, agrarian distress and corruption. Addressing the media here after Congress emerged the winner in Chhattisgarh and inched closer to victory in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, Gandhi said the people’s disenchantment over Modi’s failure to deliver on his promises was palpable across the country. “There is a feeling among the people in our country that what was committed by Mr. Modi, he has not been able to deliver it. That’s clear cut. There is a sense among the youth that the promise of employment has

not been fulfilled. Same feeling is there among the farmers. “There is a feeling of discontent, inability to see the future. Inability to understand how they are going to survive and thrive in the field of agriculture. I think that has had a big impact,” Gandhi said. He said that with a resurgent Congress party in the states and the combined opposition, it was going to be “very difficult” for Prime Minister Modi and the BJP to win future elections. “This is a clear message to the Prime Minister and the BJP that the country is not happy with what they are doing. The country is not happy with demonetisation, with GST, lack of jobs,” he said. “I think there are serious questions being asked about the future of our youngsters, the central question is how does our country give jobs to

millions and millions of youth?” he added. He said Modi was elected on three major planks of employment, corruption and farmers’ distress. But Modi has failed on all fronts. “People thought the Prime Minister would fight against corruption. But that sense has gone away. Now people realise that Modi himself is corrupt. It’s a reality that corruption happened in the Rafale deal. Its truth will come out,” he said. Exuding confidence that a united opposition would defeat Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi underlined that the Congress did not want to banish anyone from the country. “We will fight against BJP’s ideology. We have defeated them now and will defeat them in 2019. But we don’t want to banish anyone from India,” Gandhi said.

Assembly election results give clear message to Modi: Rahul

New Delhi (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the BJP accepts with humility verdict of people in the five states and congratulated the Congress, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the Mizo National Front (MNF) for their victories. Modi, in a series of tweets in the evening on a long day of results, said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan had worked tirelessly for people. “We accept the people’s mandate with humility. I thank the people of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for giving us the opportunity to serve these states. The BJP governments in these states worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people,” he said. Modi said victory and defeat were an integral part of life. “Today’s polls will further our resolve to serve people and work even harder for the development of India.” “Congratulations to the Congress for their victories. Congratulations to KCR Garu for the thumping win in Telangana and to the Mizo National Front (MNF) for their impressive victory in Mizoram.” The Prime Minister also thanked the BJP workers for their hard work in the Assembly elections.

BJP announces series of party meetings before 2019 polls New Delhi (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a two-day national council meeting -- the largest body of the party -- on January 11-12 here to chalk out its strategy for 2019 Lok Sabha polls. BJP General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav announced the party’s programme here at a press conference after a

meeting of BJP office-bearers and state party chiefs with party President Amit Shah. The meeting, to be held at the Indira Gandhi National Indoor Stadium here, is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah, party veteran L.K. Advani, several union ministers and members of the party’s national council.

The meeting will take stock of the current political situation and would finalise its programmes for reaching out to the electorate ahead of the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha polls. “As part of preparation for 2019, seven wings of the BJP are active to take party’s agenda to different sections of the society,” Yadav said. Besidees, a series of other

People reject BJP’s attacks on NehruGandhi family, institutions: Pawar Mumbai (IANS): Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said the Bharatiya Janata Partys (BJP) attacks on the Nehru-Gandhi family and subverting national institutions did not go down well with the voters who rejected the party. Speaking to mediapersons on his 78th birthday, Pawar said the BJP indulged in “a very vicious campaign” in the five states, even making personal attacks on the Nehru-Gandhi family. “This was not approved by the electorate… The modern generation has never seen Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi. They have only witnessed what happened in the past 10 years. This is the

reason they rejected outright such personal attacks on these personalities and wiped out the BJP in all the states,” Pawar said. He added that the Centre has attempted to undermine various institutions in the country and did not spare even the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). “It is indeed a matter of serious concern… The people have adopted the ballot box method to choose Congress and express their unhappiness with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” In view of these developments, he urged the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party to join the opposition United Progressive Alliance (UPA). Dodging a question on wheth-

er Congress President Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister if the opposition won the 2019 election, Pawar countered: “When Rahul himself has indiated he is not in the race for the PM’s post, why is the media so concerned?” The Maratha strongman and a three-time Chief Minister of Maharashtra and who has also been a union Minister many times, Pawar is now a Rajya Sabha member. He has not lost a single election since 1967. Starting his political career as a youth leader with the Congress in the early 1960s, he left the party in 1999 and launched the NCP, which is allied with the UPA, both in Maharashtra and at the centre.

meetings are also scheduled to start with a workshop of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Delhi on December 15-16, followed by the convention of party’s Mahila Morcha in Ahmedabad on December 21-22, which will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “On January 19-20, a convention of Scheduled Castes Morcha of the party will be

New Delhi (IANS): Dealt a severe blow by the Congress in the Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said the outcome would have no bearing on the Lok Sabha elections next year. He said the 2019 general election would be on a completely different footing where people would face a choice between a tried and tested Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a highly opportunistic “coalition of rivals”. “We lost Delhi badly in 2013 but swept all the seats by lakhs of votes the very next year. We won the 2003 Assembly elections in all three states (Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan) but lost the 2004 elections. State assemblies are always on a very different footing,” Jaitley said while addressing the India Economic Conclave via video conference.

The comments come after the BJP was routed in Chhattisgarh and defeated in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in closely-fought contests. Expressing confidence of winning the Lok Sabha polls next year, he said the question in front of the voters was absolutely clear. “One one hand, you have a Prime Minister and a government which has been tested for its politics, integrity, stability, ethics and decisiveness. On the other hand you have what I call a coalition of rivals -- a highly opportunistic combination with no clear policy, whose stability has always been in doubt,” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said. He said that not just its stability but even the policy direction of the coalition was in doubt, with some partners wanting their state interests to be served while others focused on their vote bank even at the cost of supporting radical ele-

ments. Jaitley said the longevity of such a coalition was not beyond a few months and that it was bound to fail as it happened on previous occasions. The Finance Minister also blamed Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his supporters for the degrading quality of India’s political discourse. “We comment on his politics. That is not a personal attack. But Rahul Gandhi is the one indulging in personal attacks. Not even Prime Minister Modi’s mother was spared, or even his father who died 40 years ago. Personal attacks were made even on my children who are not even in politics. “Rahul Gandhi and his supporters personalise every attack. We believe there policies and politics should be commented on, not personalities and families. Rahul Gandhi is the one who started the (latter trend),” Jaitley said.

Amarinder hails Congress victory; says it’s beginning of end of NDA-rule Chandigarh (IANS): Hailing the victory of the Congress in the Assembly elections in three states, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said it was a mandate for the leadership of party President Rahul Gandhi and added that it marked the beginning of the end of the Bharatiya

Janata Party-led NDA government in the country. Reacting to the poll results declared on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the Congress’ performance showed that the party was on an upswing across the country. “The results have clearly shown that the people of

India are now fed up of the destructive and antidevelopment policies of the Narendra Modi government and want a positive change,” Amarinder Singh said in a statement here. Congratulating the party President, as well as UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, for the Congress win

Akali Dal condemns Congress move on Kamal Nath as Chief Minister Chandigarh (IANS): Opposing the move by the Congress to name former union minister Kamal Nath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the Shiromani Akali Dal said on Thursday that the Congress was “rewarding the perpetrators of genocide against the Sikhs”. “The Congress promotes and rewards the perpetrators of genocide against the Sikhs by proposing the name of Kamal

Nath as Chief Minister,” Akali Dal leader Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal said in a statement here. “Apparently, the Gandhi family still rewards the leaders of Congress who were directly involved in the genocide in 1984, a period of shame for humanity as rioting against the innocent Sikhs was perpetrated by the leaders of Congress,” Grewal said.

He alleged that Kamal Nath led a mob against the Sikhs in the Raqab Ganj gurdwara area in which young innocent boys were to death while he stood there. The Congress is set to form the government in Madhya Pradesh. Kamal Nath was removed as the Congress in-charge for Punjab in 2016 following objections from Congress leaders in the Sikh-majority state.

in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Amarinder Singh said the party had clearly revived under the dynamic leadership of Rahul Gandhi. “The results were a sign of the mood of the nation which saw in Rahul the youthful change it needed to bring India back on

the track of development, which had been the hallmark of the previous UPA regime under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The people of India felt cheated by the failure of the Modi government to deliver on any of its promises made five years ago,” Amarinder Singh said.

SAD targets Amarinder government for truncated Assembly session Chandigarh (IANS): Accusing the Congress government of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of making a mockery of democracy by reducing the winter session of Punjab Assembly to a single sitting, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday said the “non-performing government” was shying away from the session. SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal said: “The Congress has played a cruel joke on the people and made a mockery of democracy by recommending the winter session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha be reduced to a single sitting, something which had happened for the first time in the state.” In a statement here, the SAD President said Congress legislators, who formed a majority in the business

advisory committee, had recommended the winter session be curtailed from two days to a single day. “This is unprecedented and has taken democratic norms to a new low. It also amounts to cheating the people as well as muzzling their voice. The Congress legislators should tell the people why they became party to this anti-people decision,” Badal stated. He said it was shocking that the Congress government was running away from discussion on people’s issues by curtailing the winter session. “As only obituary references were made today, one day is too less to take up people’s issues as well as pass bills as scheduled,” Badal said. The Assembly session officially

began on Thursday with the sitting ending after obituary references. “We will take up this issue with the Speaker and demand that the session be extended appropriately,” he added. Badal said: “The government does not want any discussion on farmer issues or promises made to the youth, discrimination being meted out to Dalits and government employees or destruction of peace and communal harmony in Punjab.” The Punjab assembly on Thursday paid homage to 58 people who died in the Amritsar train tragedy on October 19. Tributes were also paid to three people killed in a bomb blast at the Nirankari Bhawan in village Adliwal in Amritsar last month.

He added: “People were desperate to see an end to the vicious cycle of communal hatred and violence unleashed by the BJP-led regime.” It is a moment of celebration not just for the Congress but also for the people of this country, said the Chief Minister.

THE DOCTOR GAME- W. GIFFORD-JONES M.D

Low Intensity Laser Therapy for bruised brains viewed Dr. Simonn Rochkind, a micro-neurosurgeon at Tel-Aviv University, a world authority on nerve regeneration. People who have catastrophic spinal cord injuries, such as the one suffered by Christopher Reeves of the Superman movies, can never walk again. But I witnessed rats with severed spinal cords who were partially walking again with the help of Rochkind’s surgery in conjunction with LILT therapy. Current research shows that Low Intensity Laser Therapy is a new way to treat concussion but has received little medical attention. It also has the appeal of being non-toxic, non-invasive and is completely safe. So today with the increasing number of concussions, there is no need to drill holes in the skull or wait for nature to heal a bruised brain. Low Intensity Laser Therapy offers a safe and speedier route.

HOW far have we come since Egyptians drilled holes in the skull in an attempt to cure a variety of diseases? We’ve seen tremendous advances in brain surgery. But relatively little progress in how to treat concussion. Basically, medical advice has been to rest while waiting for the brain to recover. But research now shows Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT) can dramatically speed up the healing of bruised brains. So why isn’t it used more by doctors, and for more conditions? To learn about this therapy I interviewed Dr. Fred Kahn, founder of Meditech International. Last year his Toronto clinic treated over 800 concussion patients, those who have been in a car accident, suffered a fall, or who years ago had a blow to the head. Some had not lost consciousness, so failed to realize they’d suffered a concussion. The symptoms of concussion depend on the degree of brain injury. But the usual symptoms consist of memory loss, dizziness, headache, fatigue, irritability, emotional instability. So what is LILT? During this treatment, particles of energy, known as photons, are produced and absorbed by cellular structures. This stimulates metabolism in damaged tissues, resolves inflammation, accelerates healing, which results in the elimination of symptoms. I spent several hours studying Dr Kahn’s reports. One patient writes, “I had suffered concussion resulting in a stiff neck, brain fog, intense fatigue, and severe sensitivity to light and noise. It was quite demoralizing. I was treated by Dr. Kahn twice a week for 10 weeks, gradually regained my strength and emotional health”. Another patient says, “Following a car accident, an emergency doctor diagnosed a concussion. But he informed me there was no treatment to prescribe for recovery. Fortunately a friend told me about Dr. Kahn’s clinic and now, following several treatments, I’ve finally experienced positive changes in my mood along with reduced pain”. The World Health Organization reports that 6 out of every 1,000 individuals has sustained some form of concussion. And that 20 to 30 million North Americans are living with traumatic brain injuries. What impressed me during my stay at the clinic was how this therapy is also being used for so many other medical conditions. For years I’ve written how diabetes may result in hardened arteries, and decreased blood flow to the legs, resulting in diabetic ulcers and sometimes leg amputation. Now I saw patients whose leg ulcers had completely healed after 10 treatments over a two week period, along with improved blood circulation to the foot. Laser therapy is also being used at the clinic to treat sports injuries, degenerative arthritis, back pain due to a ruptured spinal disc, carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff tears, bursitis and chronic skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis. Low Intensity Laser Therapy has been known for 40 years, but has largely been collecting dust. I first became aware of this therapy when I attended an International Conference on this subject several years ago. At that time, I heard Dr. Mary Dyson of the Department of Physiology at the University of London, England, discuss the healing properties of LILT. Another speaker, Tina Karu, Professor of Laser Biology at the Russian Academy of Science, had done extensive research on laser therapy. It was apparent LILT was not an oldfashioned snake oil cure. Since that time, during a trip to Israel, I inter-

Relationship with Amy Winehouse wasn’t fuelled by drugs: Ex husband

London (IANS): Late singer Amy Winehouse’s ex husband Blake Fielder Civil says

their relationship was not fuelled by drugs. In a rare television appearance, Civil said they “only used drugs for six months of their marriage”, reported dailymail.co.uk. The 36-year-old appeared on “Good Morning Britain” to talk about his relationship with the late star, who died from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 in 2011. Piers Morgan offered that their “tempestuous” relationship was “driven a lot by drugs”, an accusation Blake was keen to have his say on. “No it wasn’t, it wasn’t,” he told the host,

and added: “This is something that needs to be addressed. In six or seven years that me and Amy were on and off together, tempestuous perhaps is... if you want to call it that. “We had one break for awhile, we had one argument that was in the press. The drug thing is something that has been attributed to me for years but in fact me and Amy only used drugs together for maybe six months of our marriage, that was it. And before that Amy didn’t use drugs, she smoked cannabis, I did heroin maybe four or five times.” When Morgan asked him if he feels an

“responsibility”, Civil, who was married to Winehouse from 2007-2009, said: “Always, always, but also I’m not ready to be the only person anymore. I feel I am the only person who has taken responsibility and has done since Amy was alive. “I feel that maybe since the last film about Amy came out two years ago, the documentary, there has been a certain sort of shift in blame to other parties. Amy didn’t do anything Amy didn’t want to do. I will always carry a burden of guilt. I feel how I should have acted.”

Cardi B, Offset didn’t split ‘for publicity’ “I’ve been seeing a lot of people say that my relationship was fake,” she continued. “There’s certain things called love. People do fall in love. Like, my relationship was never fake. I met this n***a, he was on my a**, I gave him a chance and we fell in love with each other. Things were

Los Angeles (IANS): Rapper Cardi B has opened up on her split from Offset saying that she didn’t do it for publicity. When Cardi B announced last week that she and Offset had split, fans were shocked. Many even believed she wasn’t being truthful, as the two had put on a public display of affection onstage at the 2018 102.7 KIIS-FM Jingle Ball just days prior, and had made her announcement to generate publicity for Offset’s new album, which is set for release on December 14. In an Instagram Live session on Sunday, which was watched by more than 100,000 people including actress Lindsay Lohan, Cardi debunked the rumours, reports eonline.com. “I really don’t like how people say me and my husband - whatever he is right now to me - is doing it for publicity,” she said. “I wouldn’t put my family in a bad name for no f**king publicity because at the end of the day, 10 years from now, my daughter, she’s gonna be looking at these type of things and she’s gonna be asking me about these type of things.”

Singer Cheryl hints at new romance!

London (IANS): Singer Cheryl has hinted at having a new man in her life just months after her split from singer Liam Payne. Cheryl confirmed her single relationship status earlier this year in July this year. But it seems she is starting to crush on a man, reported dailystar.co.uk. Speaking to Vick Hope at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Coca-Cola, Cheryl hinted at her pending love life with Michael B Jordan. With Hope telling Cheryl that they had entered a love triangle with Jordan, Cheryl made a promise that nothing would happen between the pair. Telling Cheryl that if something did happen, she would be very upset, the 35-year-old said: “I promise you nothing’s happening.” She soon added: “That’s a pinkie promise... yet.” Cheryl has a child named Bear Payne with Liam Payne. They are co-parenting the child while they both work on their careers.

not always gravy because at the end of the day, we are two different people. But we never did anything for f**king publicity. You think I got f**king pregnant, could have ruined my career for f**king publicity?” Cardi secretly wed Offset last year. The two share a four-month-old baby girl,

Kulture. Cardi said in an Instagram video on Tuesday last week that she and Offset were “not together anymore”. She rapped about their upcoming divorce onstage on Saturday. On Sunday morning, Offset tweeted, “F**K Y’all I miss Cardi.”

She says the first part of the movie is very close to her heart and cannot wait to start filming “Mardaani 2”. “’Mardaani’ is and will always be extremely close to my heart. Right since its release, everyone has asked me time and again when I would be doing ‘Mardaani 2’ and I’m sure this announcement will come as a

pleasant surprise to them all. Gopi has written an extraordinary script that we all love and I can’t wait to start shooting this film soon,” Rani said in a statement. “Mardaani”, which released in 2014, featured Rani as a feisty senior inspector named Shivani Shivaji Roy, who took on the kingpin of a child trafficking racket played by Tahir Raj Bhasin. Yash Raj Films’ edge-of-the-seat entertainer, “Mardaani 2” is set to go on floors next year

and will release in the later half of 2019. The character has been written superbly and I’m excited to find out who the actor will be,” she added. The film will be produced by Aditya Chopra.

Janhvi Kapoor honoured by Norwegian Consulate

Mine forever: Virat to ‘Best friend, soulmate’ Anushka

Mumbai (IANS): Actress Janhvi Kapoor was on Tuesday presented “Arts Stjerneskudd” (Shooting Star of the Year) award by the Royal Norwegian Consulate here. Dressed in a beautiful blue saree, the “Dhadak” actress came along with her father and film producer Boney Kapoor to receive the award in the presence of Iram Haq, the acclaimed Norwegian director. The event took place at the Metro INOX in Mumbai. Talking on the occasion, Janhvi said: “It is an honour to be present here as any form of appreciation makes me feel special and I would like to continue my good work to live up to the expectation (of audience). I will work hard.” Boney Kapoor said: “I am feeling proud as a father to be standing here next to her to receive the award. I am feeling elated to be here because every time any of my family members...my son and daughter achieve something, I feel proud.” Announcing the award, Ann Ollestad, the Consul General said: “Your performance in ‘Dhadak’ was excellent and we would like to recognise your talent in Norway on behalf of the Royal Norwegian Consulate General, I would like to call you the Shooting Star of the Year.” The occasion was followed by a screening of “What Will People Say” -- Norway’s official entry to the Oscars 2019. The film features Indian actors like Adil Hussain, Rohit Saraf and Ekavali Khanna, among others, and also produced by an Indian producer Guneet Monga.

Nick, Priyanka are ‘match made in heaven’, feels Joe Jonas

New York (IANS): American singer Nick Jonas and actress Priyanka Chopra were meant to be together as they are a match made in heaven, according to Nicks older brother Joe Jonas. The DNCE frontman stopped by at a J.C. Penny event this week in New York, where he gushed about his brother’s relationship with the “Quantico” actress to Entertainment Tonight, reports people.com. “Seeing Nick’s face when he first met her, and the way he talks about her, and then getting to meet her and seeing what an amazing person she is, I knew right away that they were a match made in heaven,” Joe, 29, said. His comments came days after Nick, 26, and Priyanka, 36, said their “I dos” in two fairytale weddings -- one Indian and one western -- in Jodhpur, India. Joe had a front row seat to the festivities, attending them alongside his fiancee Sophie Turner, 22. Both were in the wedding party, as were Nick’s brothers Frankie Jonas, 18, and Kevin Jonas, 31; Priyanka’s brother Siddharth Chopra, and her cousin, famed Bollywood actress and singer Parineeti Chopra; and Kevin’s wife Danielle Jonas. “My face hurts from smiling so much,” Joe told ET. “The ceremonies themselves were so beautiful. The Indian ceremony, for me, was something new. We were all in tears, he added.

Mumbai (IANS): On completing a year of togetherness, Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Tuesday wished actress Anushka Sharma a happy anniversary and called her his “best friend and soulmate”. Virat on Tuesday tweeted: “Can’t believe it’s been a year already because it feels like it happened just yesterday. Time has truly flown by. Happy anniversary to my best friend and my soulmate. Mine forever. Anushka Sharma.”

Anushka shared her wedding video, where an ecstatic Kohli is seen referring to the actress as his “wife”. He also says that he now feels like a “grown up”. The “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” star captioned the video: “It’s heaven, when you don’t sense time passing by... It’s heaven, when you marry a good ‘man’.” The star couple, fondly called as “Virushka” by their fans, tied the knot in last year in Tuscany, Italy.

Snuffed Out!

Security comes of age in Border. Again Sweden shows its uncanny ability to pull off a totally fresh and unique film brought to B.C. by Mongrel Media. Unsettling, imaginative, creative and with a touch of realism sums up this savvy and slick bit of filmmaking whose odd nature makes it special, Catch Border at the International Village Cinemas. Homeland security

or whatever the Canadian security equivalent is called could well learn a lot from ace order specialist Tina. Don’t let looks fool you once Eva Melander locks eyes on you. Or is that her nostrils as the odd looking lady seems to have more in common with welltrained snoop sniffer dogs than your average worker. Let’s just say Tina is the first line of defense when those potentially criminally inclined interlopers enter her section. Well respected by her law enforcement colleagues heaven help anyone that tries to pass

into the region closeting bad things. Take-downs by unsuspecting bad peoples are handled decisively as director Ali Agassi pulls off a smart and stylish little thriller. Bolstered by truly interesting if not somewhat grotesque characters. Made in Swedish with English subtitles Border is a small wonder well worth making fan effort to see. Chinese CEOs of High tech government enshrouded cell phone behemoths take note.

2019 Ram Rebel: More luxury, technology and Off Road performance By Autoreviewman For 2019, the popular Ram pickup has been much improved with a brand new design, also importantly — towing, payload, interior room, technology, and performance are all way up. It’s also a quieter truck. With a multitude of models available, we recently tested a 2019 Ram Rebel model that offers a unique take on the popular pickup. For starters, the Rebel offers a factory-installed lift kit, big 33-inch tires, Bilstein shock absorbers, a 3.92 gearing, locking rear differential and skid plates for serious off-roading. You also gain special black badging and grille. The inside is also branded with: Rebel red anodized trim around the speakers, doors, instrument panel and consoles, red and black

leather-trimmed seats, and an upgraded audio system- namely a big sounding, 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with noise cancellation technology; linked to a 900-watt surroundsound amp and 10-inch subwoofer. The Rebel arrives in two versions; either a Quad Cab with a 6-ft. 4-in. box, or the Crew Cab offers that, offers a 5ft. 7-in. box, Available features include power

tailgate release, tailgate ajar warning and RamBox lockers built into the bed sides, plus in-floor storage bins and a rear-seat fold-down centre console. The Rebel adds a larger touchscreenRam’s fourth-generation Uconnect system with a larger processing power, multi-touch gestures, split-screen capability, and high-resolution graphics. It is one of the roomiest and luxurious truck interiors available! The Rebel offers either a 3.6-liter V-6 eTorque mild hybrid engine, a 5.7-liter V-8 eTorque, or a 5.7-liter V-8 sans eTorque. The full time 4WD, part time 4H, 4L and normal 2WD — can all be selected by the simple push of button. The Ram also has bigger payload at 2,300 lbs. from 1,880; and max tow rat-

ing increases to 12,750 lbs. from 10,450 with the proper tow equipment. On the road, the 5.7L and transmission works excellently. The engine is bulletproof with its sublime smooth acceleration and copious power. Braking, steering and handling ae also much improved. With its light power steering and the reversing camera, the Rebel is easy to drive and park. I didn’t take the Rebel off-road, but it should have no problem tackling the great outdoors with its capable off road equipment. The Rebel is a stellar addition to the Ram truck lineup. Highly recommended if you want a distinctive, unique truck with a sporty flair. 2019 Ram Rebel Base priced from: $42,095 – $74,595
