Sajjan Kumar sentenced to prison for life in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case New Delhi (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Monday held Sajjan Kumar and five others guilty in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case and sentenced the Congress leader to imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life. The court asked Sajjan Kumar to surrender by December 31. A bench of Justice S. Muralidhar and Justice Vinod Goel overturned a trial court judgement that had acquitted the Congress leader. “In the summer of 1947, during partition, this country witnessed horrific mass crimes where several lakhs of civilians, including Sikhs, Muslims and Hindus were massacred,” the bench said. “Thirty-seven years later, the country was again witness to another enormous human tragedy. Following the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, on the morning of October 31, 1984, by two of her Sikh bodyguards, a communal frenzy was unleashed.” “For four days between November 1 to November 4 of that year, all over Delhi, 2,733 Sikhs were brutally murdered. Their houses were destroyed. In the rest of the country too, thousands of Sikhs were killed,” the bench observed in its 203-page order. The court said: “A majority of the perpetrators of these horrific mass crimes, enjoyed political patronage and were aided by an indifferent law
Sajjan Kumar. Photo: IANS enforcement agency. “The criminals escaped prosecution and punishment for over two decades. “It took as many as 10 Committees and Commissions for the investigation into the role of some of them to be entrusted in 2005 to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), 21 years after the occurrence.” The court convicted the Congress leader under various counts of Indian Penal Code (IPC) including murder, criminal conspiracy, wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot, mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house and injuring or defiling
place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class. The CBI had filed an appeal challenging the acquittal of Sajjan Kumar and said that the trial court “erred in acquitting Sajjan Kumar as it was he who had instigated the mob during the riots”. In October, the High Court reserved its order on the pleas challenging that trial court judgement on Sajjan Kumar but convicted the other five accused in the case related to the killing of five people in Delhi Cantonment area following the assassination of Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. The High Court Division Bench upheld the trial court April 30, 2013, judgement convicting five other accused — former councillor Balwan Khokhar, former legislator Mahender Yadav, Krishan Khokar, Girdhari Lal and Retired Captain Bhagmal — for their involvement in the case. The five have also filed appeals against their conviction. Sajjan Kumar and five others were tried in the case involving the killing of five Sikhs — Kehar Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Raghuvender Singh, Narender Pal Singh and Kuldeep Singh, who were members of the same family — by a mob in Delhi Cantonment’s Raj Nagar area following the assassination of Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
Man sentenced to 15 months in prison for attack on Seattle-area Sikh taxi driver
RORY Benson was last Friday sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to the December 16, 2017 assault of taxi driver Swarn Singh with a deadly weapon. Singh is a 53-yearold Sikh American husband and father who works in the Seattle area. The Sikh Coalition represented Singh and provided free legal support during court proceedings. Singh submitted a poignant impact statement to the King County Superior Court. In the statement, he urged his attacker to recognize the damage caused, detailing his injuries and the impact of the assault on the Sikh community. “I am deeply thankful for the Sikh Coalition’s support and relentless advocacy,” said Singh. “Nobody should endure this violence, but if this happens to another Sikh, it’s incredible to have the Sikh Coalition’s free legal services.”
Swarn Singh On December 16, 2017, Singh, who maintains Sikh articles of faith including unshorn hair and a turban, had parked outside an apartment building to drop off Rory Benson and his mother.
It was then that Benson, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, brutally attacked Singh. He grabbed the piece of cloth Singh kept in his taxi to wipe the windshield and attempted to suffocate him with it. Singh immediately ran out of the taxi, and Benson grabbed a hammer from his bag, chasing him on foot. Benson caught up to Singh and hit him in the head repeatedly, specifically targeting his turban and knocking it to the ground. Singh suffered a scalp laceration and a skull fracture as a result of the attack. He was transported to the hospital, and Benson was arrested. The Sikh Coalition worked with Singh for 11 months to make sure the Bellevue Police Department and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office were properly investigating the incident and reviewing appropriate charges.

Bulandshahr violence: Ex-bureaucrats slam CM, Modi; Yogi says thank my government New Delhi / Lucknow (IANS): A group of former bureaucrats came down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh BJP regime and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Bulandshahr mob violence saying “politics of hate has taken the most dangerous turn” even as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said his government should be “thanked” for defeating a “political conspiracy” to spread anarchy through communal violence in the state. Questioning Modi’s “stony silence” over the December 3 mob violence in which a police officer was killed, the former bureaucrats and diplomats, in an open letter, said the Bulandshahr incident showed the “perverted” fundamental principles of governance and constitutional ethics of the Yogi government under which, “hooliganism and thuggery have been mainstreamed into governance”. The letter signed by 83 former civil servants including former Foreign Secretaries Shiv Shankar Menon, Shayam Saran and Sujata Singh and former Ambassador and DGP Julio Ribeiro, called for the resignation of Adityanath and urged the Allahabad High Court to initiate a judicial enquiry taking suo-motu cognisance of the
violence and the “cold blooded murder” of Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh. “The Bulandshahr mob violence instigated and engineered with malicious intent, marks the most dangerous turn yet in the direction taken by the politics of hate in recent times. “It shows that in India’s most populous state, fundamental principles of governance, of constitutional ethics and of humane social conduct stand perverted. The Chief Minister of the state acts as high priest of the agenda of bigotry and majoritarian supremacy -- an agenda which now seems to take precedence over everything else,” they said. Under Adityanath, hooliganism and thuggery have been mainstreamed into governance, not just to intimidate minorities but to teach a lesson to anyone, including police personnel and others in the administration, who dared to be even-handed in their approach to minority communities, they said. “The pace of erosion has been frightening and with each slip, we seem to sink further into a lawless abyss. “This was a deliberate attempt to display majoritarian muscle and send a message to Muslim communities living in the region that they have to live
in fear, accept their subordinate status and conform to the cultural diktats of the majority community,” the letter said adding that there was no doubt as to who the political elements were, that aided and abetted the violence. “The Chief Minister refuses to acknowledge the gravity of the incident and its communal intent, condemn the perpetrators of violence or direct the police to take action against them, instead asks them to focus attention on those responsible for illegal cow slaughter. “He (Adityanath) may try to mislead by calling it an accident, this was murder with an intent”, they said alleging that the slain police officer was an “impediment” to the communal plans of local BJP and Sangh Parivar elements and “had to go”. Turning their attention to Modi, the former civil servants said: “Our Prime Minister, who is so voluble in his election campaigns and who never tires of telling us how the Constitution of India is the only holy book he worships, maintains a stony silence even as he sees a Chief Minister handpicked by him treat the same Constitution with sheer contempt. “It is evident that for the Sangh Parivar, constitutional morality is of no value, and is necessar-
Kamal Nath shouldn’t forget where he came from: AAP
New Delhi (IANS): Slamming the new Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s comment on migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said he should not forget about where he originally hails from. “Kamal Nath should remind himself where he actually belongs to. He has a connection with Kanpur and Kolkata. He came
as an outsider in his constituency Chhindwara and won the elections,” Sanjay Singh, Rajya Sabha MP from AAP, told the media. Immediately after taking oath as CM on Monday, Kamal Nath had told the media that his government would give incentives to those investors who provide 70 per cent of the jobs to the youth from Madhya Pradesh. He had also said that people

hate and division -- “a politics which aims to destroy the fundamental principles on which our republic is founded.” Facing heat for focusing more on cow slaughter than the killing of the police officer, an unfazed Adityanath hit out at his detractors claiming the Bulandshahr violence, was a “political conspiracy” hatched by those who have lost political ground. “The state government has un-
covered a big conspiracy. Those who wanted to spread anarchy and lawlessness through cow slaughter, their motive has been defeated. “Those who are making these comments are trying to hide their failure. They should thank and praise the government for preventing a big conspiracy to spread communal tension in the state,” Adityanath told the media in Lucknow.

Amarinder Singh hails conviction of Sajjan Kumar Chandigarh (IANS): Terming it as a case of justice finally delivered to the victims of one of the worst instances of communal violence in independent India, Punjab Chief
Minister Amarinder Singh here on Monday welcomed the conviction of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case by the Delhi High Court.

“The reversal, by the High Court, of the earlier acquittal of Sajjan by a trial court had once again proved that the judiciary in India continues to stand tall as a pillar of the nation’s democratic system,” the Chief Minister said. Reacting to the Delhi High Court judgement awarding life term to the former Congress MP, Amarinder Singh said that the conviction vindicated the stand he had been taking since those dark days of the violence perpetrated on thousands of innocent Sikhs in the wake of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Amarinder Singh has been heading the Congress government in Punjab since March 2017. Hailing the long-awaited verdict, Amarinder said that he had been naming Sajjan Kumar, along with a few other former Congress leaders including Dharam Das Shastri, H.K.L. Bhagat and Arjun Das, for the past 34 years, based on the information he had personally received from victims in refugee camps in Delhi during the riots.
Sajjan Kumar is the only surviving Congress leader involved in the riots, as the others had since died, he added. “The name of Sajjan Kumar had repeatedly cropped up in my interactions with the victims in the refugee camps,” Amarinder Singh, who had last month also welcomed the first death sentence awarded in another 1984 riots case, said. Amarinder said that he, through the years, had been calling for the strictest of punishment for the handful of individual Congress leaders who were involved in instigating the riots. “These leaders, who included Sajjan Kumar, did not have any official party sanction and deserved to be punished for their horrendous crime,” the Chief Minister maintained. The Chief Minister, however, reiterated that neither the Congress party nor the Gandhi family had any role in the rioting. Amarinder Singh lashed out at the Badals for continuing to drag the names of the Gandhi family in the case at the behest of their political masters - the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “There was no Congress conspiracy behind the violence and the names of the Gandhis did not come up even once during my visits to the refugee camps,” the Chief Minister said, adding that it was vested political interests that had been trying to draw the Gandhi family into the controversy and the conspiracy. Hundreds of Sikhs were killed in the riots in Delhi and other places in the aftermath of the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984.
Expel Tytler, remove Kamal Nath: Sukhbir tells Rahul Chandigarh (IANS): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday asked Congress President Rahul Gandhi to expel Jagdish Tytler from the party and remove Kamal Nath from the post of chief minister of Madhya Pradesh as their names figured in cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. “Will he take action against these Congress leaders for the killings of thousands of innocent Sikhs or wait for them to be sentenced by courts before taking action against them?” Badal asked while talking to the media. Addressing a press conference following a meeting of the party’s core committee presided over by him, Badal said Rahul should explain his silence and also clarify why he tried to mislead the people a few months back by claiming that no Congress leader was involved in the 1984 Sikh massacres. “It seems Rahul is afraid to take action against the genocide perpetrators because he feels that if he does this, they will spill the beans and give details about how his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi supervised the mass murder of Sikhs on the streets of Delhi,” he said. “The SAD president said with the Delhi High Court holding Congress leader and former MP Sajjan Kumar guilty for the killing of Sikhs in Delhi in 1984, the Election Commission must step in and take action against the Congress party. “This is a fit case for derecognization of the Congress. Sajjan Kumar escaped the law for 34 years due to political patronage being provided to him by the Congress,” Badal said. He said the SAD would continue its fight to get justice for all 3,000 victims of the Congress-sponsored genocide. “We will take up each and every case and take it to its logical conclusion and ensure that all Congressmen responsible for this barbarism are brought to justice and hanged for their crimes against humanity,” he said.

Expelled Akali leaders launch new party in Punjab Amritsar (IANS): The expelled leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday launched a new party -- the Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali). “Taksali means genuine and old. We are the real Akali Dal,” the newly announced party’s president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, who is the sitting Member of Parliament from the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat, said.
The new party was launched after prayers (ardas) at the Golden Temple complex here. It was announced outside the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikh religion. The new party has been floated by expelled Akali Dal leaders Brahmpura, Ratan Singh Ajnala and former Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan. These leaders, and a few oth-
ers, were expelled from the SAD in November for anti-party activities after they rebelled against the party leadership. The new Akali Dal has been launched just two days after the SAD celebrated its 98th anniversary. The SAD, the second oldest political party in the country after the Congress, was launched in December 1920. The SAD is headed by Sukhbir
Singh Badal, son of five-time chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. Reacting to the launch of the new party, the SAD termed it as the “Congress ‘B Team’ and Sons”. SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said the party launched by Brahmpura and others had misused “the presence of thousands of devo-
tees collected at Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) on the occasion of ‘sangrand’ as a show of strength for their ‘fathers and sons’ outfit”. Cheema said the expelled trio had committed “ghor paap” (terrible sin) by giving the impression that thousands of devotees, who had flocked to the Golden Temple complex (on Sunday), were their sup-
porters. “It is also a fact that today is Sunday and there is a two-fold increase in footfall at Sri Darbar Sahib on such occasions. In light of these facts, releasing pictures which seek to misappropriate the support to devotees in this cheap manner proves nothing is sacred for this rag-tag group,” Cheema said in a statement in Chandigarh.
Punjab Assembly passes resolution urging Centre for women’s reservation Chandigarh (IANS): The Punjab Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution urging the Central government to enact the Women’s Reservation Bill to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislative assemblies. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh moved a resolution during the Winter Session of the Assembly here. The Chief Minister pointed to the previous Congress govern-
ment’s decision to reserve 50 per cent seats for women in urban local bodies and Panchayat Raj institutions to urge the Central government to hasten the enactment of this bill. This would fulfil a legitimate and long-pending demand of women to ensure their empowerment, Amarinder said. The Bill would ensure greater equity and balanced representation for both men and women in the national electoral process and decision making,
the Chief Minister added. Amarinder said that the Congress government had ensured passage of the earlier Bill in the Rajya Sabha but it had lapsed in the Lok Sabha due to the indifferent attitude of the opposition. Once passed, the Bill would ensure reservation of 181 seats out of the total 543 Lok Sabha seats, besides earmarking 1,370 assembly seats out of the total 4,109 assembly seats across the nation.
US: Freedom of speech principle covers Khalistani referendum campaign Washington (IANS): A USbased Sikh group’s call for a referendum on Khalistan would come under the country’s “bedrock principles” of freedom of speech, according to a State Department spokesperson. Asked by a reporter on Tuesday at the Department briefing “if freedom of speech gives one a right to call for disintegration of another country,” Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino replied: “We have freedom of
speech in the United States, we have freedom of association, and these are bedrock principles of American society.” The reporter was referring to the “Referendum 2020” campaign on Punjab’s secession by a New Yorkbased organisation called Sikhs for Justice. Asked if the State Department was looking into it, Palladino said: “I’m not aware of it. That’s — I mean, I’m just not aware of
it today. I haven’t seen these reports.” The US has constitutionally mandated broad freedom of speech protection actively enforced by courts that cover most expressions of opinions except for active calls for violence or some foreign governmentfinanced campaigns. Several separatist movements campaign in the US, including “Yes California”, which wants the state to secede from the US.

That is, by far, the best medal we all can give to ourselves and we all can experience. So, kudos to all the participants. May God bless you,” the actress said. Aishwarya thanked the teachers and trainers who worked with the children. The mother of one of them said extra-curricular activities give students an opportunity to realise their potential. She said: “It gives an opportunity to these beauti-

Mumbai (IANS): Actress Sonam Kapoor, a vegan, has been named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Person of the Year for 2018. Sonam has been feted as she sings in praise of vegan eating and because she keeps animal skins out of her handbag line for her fashion brand Rheson, apart from taking other action for the welfare of animals. “Whether she’s enjoying vibrant vegan meals or rallying her fans to do their part to stop animal suffering, Sonam Kapoor never hesitates to help animals any way she can,” PETA India Associate Director Sachin Bangera said in a statement. “We encourage everyone to take a page out of her book and live with compassion and respect for all beings,” he added. In 2016, Sonam was named PETA India’s Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity, and she earned a Compassionate Business Award from the group a year later for her cruelty-free handbag line. Her past animal advocacy efforts include urging the Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change not to revoke the ban on classroom dissection for university life science and zoology students; calling for a Maharashtrawide ban on glass-coated manja that can entangle and kill birds; and donating “kind kites” to children to help prevent injuries from manja. In addition, she frequently speaks out for animals on social media. Past recipients of PETA India’s Person of the Year Award include Anushka Sharma, Sunny Leone, Shashi Tharoor, Kapil Sharma, Hema Malini, R. Madhavan and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Rx: For Christmas make a telephone call
WHAT’S the most important gift you could give this holiday season? The Greek philosopher, Plato, once remarked, “Whoever likes being alone must be either a beast or a God”. I’d say Amen to that statement. Crisis workers tell us that at this time of the year, depression and suicide risk is highest. So what can we all do to decrease holiday melancholy? I’ve never seen it in the index of disease in medical texts, but loneliness should be listed in big print. It’s an illness that sooner or later disrupts the lives of many people. Chopin, the great pianist and composer, must have been deeply depressed. He complained of being, “alone, alone, alone”. Some people deny loneliness. One man who hated mankind was found laughing to himself. “Why do you laugh?” he was asked. “There is no one with you”. “That” he replied, “is just why I do”. It is indeed a hardy soul who rejects companionship during the holidays, or any time of the year.
We often make the error of believing that the rich and famous are immune to depression. But Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister during World War 11, suffered from his “Black dog of depression”. Repeated thoughts of self-destruction were never far away. This, in spite of the fact that during his early years in South Africa, he faced death’s door in wartime several times. During World War 11, Sir Charles Wilson (later Lord Moran), was Churchill’s personal physician and constant companion. Lord Moran later published a book, “Churchill, Taken from The Diaries of Lord Moran”. It was criticized by the medical establishment for divulging personal information about a patient. But Moran defended the book arguing Churchill was a public figure and a part of history. The book depicts how Churchill’s “Black Dog” was always nearby. He told Lord Moran that he feared self-destructive urges when standing near the edge of a train platform when an express train was passing through. On another occasion he worried about standing by a ship’s railing and looking down into the water. A sudden compulsion would end everything. Only weeks ago I wrote about Anthony Bourdain, the famous TV personality, wealthy, a world traveler with many friends. He ended his life by hanging. To my knowledge no one knows why.
GARY 604 897 3614
Dante, the Italian philosopher, may have answered one of the reasons for holiday depression. He wrote, “There is no greater misery than remembering happier times”. Another philosopher wrote that “man is forever terribly, utterly, alone”. So although this winter holiday season brings laughter and celebration for many, it is also a time of isolation and desperation for others, a moment bemoaning dreams that ended in failure, or loved ones no longer sitting around the dinner table. Is there anything that we, the fortunate ones, can do to ease this melancholy at holiday time? I admit I am no expert on loneliness. The closest I get to this problem is sitting for hours at the computer writing this column. I’ve concluded after 45 years that it’s a good place to visit, but a poor place to stay! For many years I have kept a prescription pad that contains several telephone numbers. It is not a list of events I have to attend over the holidays. Rather, a list of patients and friends I want to call who had lost a loved one, or have encountered other emotional difficulties. These are never easy calls. But the fact that an old friend remembered them and had not simply faded away, often eases their loss. It’s been said, “Hell is where you have an endless conversation with oneself”. It’s not a pleasant thought. But there is an easy solution, be
it only temporary. You do not need a doctor’s prescription. But it is a prescription of sorts. And the best present you can give a lonely friend. Pick up the telephone and make the call. This is the 43rd year I’ve had the pleasure of wishing you a healthy and happy holiday season.

The BMW Vision iNEXT: Showcases a New Direction
MUNICH - The BMW Vision iNEXT provides an insight into the future of personal mobility. The latest Vision Vehicle from the BMW Group symbolises the dawn of a new era in driving pleasure – after celebrating its world premiere at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show. The all-electric BMW Vision iNEXT exterior of the BMW Vision iNEXT is brimming with innovations. The new BMW i
design language is clearly visible with its striking lines and clear forms, including powerfully sculpted surfaces curved like muscles onto the flanks. The stunning Liquid Greyrose Copper paint finish, which gradually changes in shade from warm copper to dark rose, projects unbridled dynamism and gives the exterior still greater impact. The BMW Vision iNEXT features a very
modern take on the classical BMW four-eyed front end, complete with super-slender headlights, while cameras (rather than exterior mirrors) show what’s happening behind. The windscreen merges seamlessly into a large panoramic roof, providing a clear view of the car’s innovative interior. The cabin is composed of just a few, clean-cut lines, placing the focus on materi-
als and colours. A mix of cloth and wood creates the kind of sophisticated feel associated with furniture design, helping to give the interior its special “boutique” character. The inside of the car is awash with warm, welcoming colours, such as the nude shade Purus Rosé, Brown and Beige, while the shimmering metallic Mystic Bronze accentuates their effect. The rear compartment is dominated by the petrolcoloured Enlighted Cloudburst cloth upholstery with its intricate Jacquard weave, which runs asymmetrically across the seat area and extends into the side panelling and parcel shelf. Smart technologies will help people in an ever more unobtrusive way in the future. In the BMW Vision iNEXT, these technologies stay in the background and out of sight
– hence the name Shy Tech – and are only deployed when needed or at the driver’s or passengers’ request. There is virtually no need for either screens or buttons. Functions can be operated using surfaces made of materials such as wood or cloth, like the Jacquard cloth upholstery in the BMW Vision iNEXT. Control of the vehicle is therefore tai-
lored in every respect to the requirements of the people travelling in it. The BMW iNEXT production model will roll off the assembly line at Plant Dingolfing from 2021, the new technological flagship transporting the company’s strategic innovation fields (D+ACES) onto the road.

Volkswagen fans rejoice, for there is a brand-new, seventh generation 2019 Jetta in the showrooms. The venerable sedan has a new makeover with a new coupe-like profile, grille and LED lights. Wonderfully important is the fact, the Jetta now offers a more premium look and feel, plus more content for the same price range. Also new is an auto start/stop system to conserve fuel. Volkswagen offers the Jetta in Comfortline, Highline trims, (With the sporty R-Line package option), and the top Execline model we as tested. A 1.4Turbo gasoline engine with 147 hp equipped our tester. There is either an as standard six-speed transmission. An eight-speed automatic with Tiptronic is a $1,400 option as supplied. Pricing starts at $20,995 for the manual Comfortline and tops out with the Execline at $27,695 and $29,095 for the manual and automatic versions, respectively. The new interior balances the flashy new exterior, the Execline coming equipped with VW’s new Digital Cockpit display –that offers a cool reconfigurable display and the ability to put the navigation system’s map front and centre. Infotainment include the afore mentioned Volkswagen Digital cockpit instrument cluster, BeatsAudio Premium Audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer. The driver ergonomics are excellent and the instruments, controls and buttons all look and feel very high quality. The 2019 Jetta increases the technology with VW’s impressive new Android Auto and Apple CarPlay new enhanced “MIB 2” infotainment system. The touchscreen infotainment system offers such features as the Discover Media system with its 8.0-inch touchscreen with proximity sensor and navigation that expand features as your finger gets close to touch controls. There are SD card slots, blue tooth capability and a myriad of interconnectivity features. There is plenty room to stretch out in the Jetta. I like the backseat too, with it spacious back seat and its 60/40 split-folding capability. The Jetta handles great, it’s fast with satisfying acceleration and takes corners with aplomb, thanks to its XDS cross differential system and sport tuned suspension. The 1.4-litre turbocharged engine provided adequate power. Fuel consumption is impressive with VW claiming 7.8 L/100 kilometres in the city and 5.9 L/100 kilometres on the highway. To sum up, the 2019 Jetta has been improved in all areas and is to be highly recommended. When only a Volkswagen will do. 2019 Volkswagen Jetta Execline Base priced from - $29,095 plus options, freight and PDI plus Final price $31,745.
