U.S. Senator Kamala Harris could well be former vice president Joe Biden’s running mate FORMER U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said Wednesday he would consider Senator Kamala Harris as a potential running mate, a day after she dropped out of the presidential race, reports CNN. (Harris is the daughter of an Indian mother and an AfricanJamaican father. Harris was elected to the Senate in 2016. She became the first person of Indian-American descent elected to the Senate and the second woman of AfricanAmerican descent.) “Of course, I would,” Biden said. “Look, Senator Harris has the capacity to be anything she wants to be. I mean it sincerely. I talked to her yesterday. She’s solid, she can be president someday herself, she can be vice president, she could go on to be a Supreme Court justice, she could be attorney general. I mean she has enormous capability.” Harris, who was once seen as a leading contender in the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination, ended her campaign Tuesday due to financial pressures and after months of polling in single digits. Harris and Biden have a complicated history. Harris, a former attorney general of California, knew Biden’s late son, Beau Biden, who served as attorney general of Delaware. But during the first Democratic primary debate, the California senator confronted Biden on race issues, specifically about the time he spent in the

not dropping out on wanting to make the changes she cares about.”
Senate fighting against federallymandated busing to desegregate schools and his comments on working with segregationist senators. While the viral moment helped Harris in the immediate post-debate polls, she later dropped significantly. Biden said afterward that he wasn’t prepared for the senator to confront him in that way. “I was prepared for them to come after me, but I wasn’t prepared for the person coming at me the way she came at me,” he told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. Upon hearing the news from reporters that Harris had dropped out of the race Tuesday, Biden appeared genuinely shocked and said he had “mixed emotions” about her ending her campaign. “My reaction is she’s of first-rate intellect, a first-rate candidate and a real competitor,” he said. “I have mixed emotions about it because she is really a solid, solid person, and loaded with talent. And I’m sure she’s
MEANWHILE, a Twitter war between US President Donald Trump and Harris went viral on Wednesday, with Twitter users posting memes and funny comments on her repartee, reports IANS. Harris, who had also announced her presidential candidature in the past, wrote on her handle @KamalaHarris: “To my supporters, it is with deep regret but also with deep gratitude that I am suspending my campaign today. But I want to be clear with you: I will keep fighting every day for what this campaign has been about. Justice for the People. All the people.” Donald J. Trump wrote on @ realDonaldTrump: “Too bad. We will miss you Kamala!” Harris’ retort had the Twitterati in splits: “Don’t worry, Mr President. I’ll see you at your trial.” It got 137.7K retweets and 701.2K likes. One fan gushed: “Best tweet ever”. Another posted a meme and replied to @KamalaHarris: “Carry on. I f***ing love you”. And hopefully, you’ll be the next Attorney General and truly handle these criminals,” another user wrote. “If you aren’t selected as VP somebody better make you AG so you can prosecute all these criminals,” read one post.
New Delhi (IANS): Even as high onion prices continued to make consumers teary-eyed (prices of onions in many places have crossed Rs 100 per kg) due to a shortage, Twitter users on Wednesday had fun over an old tweet by BJP leader Smriti Irani. One user posted Irani’s tweet from December 2010, when her party was in the opposition, and wrote: “Old tweets are so funny.” Irani’s tweet on @smritiirani read: “Income Tax department is keeping a watch on all high-value transactions... don’t buy onions :-).” #OnionPrices soon trended on Twitter, garnering 1,165 tweets. One user replied to @smritiirani: “How? Please tell us?” Twitterati also posted memes on the issue, with one putting out a clipping of an old speech by Narendra Modi. One meme pertained to the use of an onion as company logo, with the caption: “After seeing onion prices, Apple want to change its logo in India”. One post read: “Each onion comes with a chip embedded in it... also reason why it’s expensive.” One user took a jibe at the government: “Nobody cares nowadays even if one purchases MPs and MLAs. Thanks to Modi government”. One comment read: “Onion pakoda sellers beware!” One user said: “True. We have stopped buying onions and the fake stories... Have you???”

Protein deficiency common among Indians: Experts Chandigarh (IANS): Like iron and calcium deficiency, protein deficiency is also common among Indians, say experts. Most Indians think that protein deficiency is not an important concern. The most common myths are that protein is only for bodybuilders or gym-goes, and that diet gives one enough protein and cutting on protein is a good way to lose weight. The latest survey by the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) to ascertain the levels of protein deficiency and awareness about protein in India showed 73 per cent of urban rich is protein deficient with 93 per cent of them unaware about their daily protein requirements. These revelations find resonance in the Inbody-IPSOS study of 2018 which illustrated that 71 per cent Indians have poor muscle health and 68 per cent have lower protein content than adequate levels. According to the National Sample Survey Office (2011-12), rural households con-
sumed 56.5g of protein (reduced from 60.2g in 1993-94), while urban households were taking in 55.7g (57.2g in 1993-94). Experts say sedentary lifestyles and inadequate protein deficient diets are having a huge impact on the muscle health. Proteins are essential at all stages of life, even after growth and development since humans constantly lose protein through normal physiological losses and it needs to be replenished. “A sedentary lifestyle and inadequate protein diet can lead to poor muscle health which may affect productivity of adults,” Nandan Joshi, Danone India’s head of medical affairs, told IANS. “The loss of muscle mass starts as early as in the 30s. We lose about 3-5 per cent muscle every decade. However, by consuming adequate protein and engaging in physical activity, we can control the muscle loss and stay active,” Joshi added. The IMRB study was conducted in seven
Government taking steps to control onion prices: Finance Minister New Delhi (IANS): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said that the government has taken a host of measures, including imports, to deal with the rising prices of onions and there are several structural issues related to their storage which the government is trying to address. “Steps are being taken other than procurement,” she told Lok Sabha while replying to the debate on Supplementary Demands for Grants for 201920 where she also said export of onions have been banned and tender have been floated for its import. The minister also told MPs the government has also decided to import to procure from the open market of coun-
cities with 73 per cent of people surveyed being protein deficient. “Since protein is such an integral part of our diet, one should strive to consume an adequate amount of protein in daily diet -one gm/kg of body weight. For example, an egg contains six gm, so either you can fulfil your requirement through diet or through supplements,” Joshi said. Good quality protein could come from meat, milk, eggs as well as legumes and
NEW
pulses. The quality of protein is related to the presence of all essential amino acids as well as its digestibility. Vegetarians can include a combination of pulses along with cereals. Besides pulses, other sources are legumes, green peas, soybean, paneer, tofu, sprouts, etc. One should also include fistful of nuts, roasted peanuts or chana along with seeds cocktail as a protein snack.

China not like-minded, so excluded from drill: Navy Chief New Delhi (IANS): Weary about China’s increasing presence in the Indian Ocean region, India has refrained from inviting China to a mega international naval exercise Milan scheduled next year, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh said on Tuesday. At Milan, a total 41 countries have been invited, excluding China and Pakistan. On China being excluded from the exercise, Singh said that only “like-minded nations” are invited in the exercise. Sources in the security establishment later said China
was not invited to Milan exercise as India does not want to legitimise its presence in the Indian Ocean region as China can later claim that it has participated in exercises in the region. About China, he also said that Indian Navy two months ago asked a Chinese research vessel to leave after it was found in the Indian waters near Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. “Our stand is clear. If you have to work in our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), then you have to take our permission,” Singh said ahead of the Navy Day celebration on Wednesday.
He said that India is keenly watching China’s increasing presence in the Indian Ocean region. “China has increased presence in the Indian Ocean since 2008. We are keenly watching them. My concern is that maritime interest, no action of our adversary should impact India’s interest,” Singh said. “There are Chinese oceanographic research vessels in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone. On an average seven to eight vessels are present near this zone. They are here sometimes to carry out mining, sometimes as anti-piracy squad,” said Singh, adding
the Indian Navy carries out whatever prompt action is needed. With aim to enhance interoperability between the navies of the region, Singh said that last year the Indian Navy hosted the 10th edition of Milan at Port Blair. Taking this initiative further, in March next year, the Indian Navy would be hosting Milan 2 as a multilateral exercise at Visakhapatnam. The event is scheduled to witness participation from around 41 countries, bringing together maritime forces from all over our region and beyond.
Milan has been held every two years off Port Blair since 1995, when less than a dozen navies of the Indian Ocean region took part. Since then, the prestigious event has grown in stature and 41 nations will now come together for the exercise at Visakhapatnam. The Navy Chief said the venue was shifted to this city given the bigger magnitude of the event and the eastern seaboard provided more space and depth for carrying out exercises at a big scale as compared to the waters off Port Blair. As regards coastal security
to prevent a repeat of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, he said the Navy along with the Coast Guard and the marine police of littoral states and other stake holders recently held a pan India exercise Sea Vigil to test the efficacy of the systems. Singh also stressed that the India Navy is fully aware about Pakistan’s intention in the Indian Ocean region. “We also know about the intelligence input about that terror groups planning to enter India through sea routes. We have put an adequate defence mechanism to thwart any threats,” Singh said.
Parliament passes bill to legalise 1,731 colonies in Delhi New Delhi (IANS: Seeking to legalise over 1,700 unauthorised colonies and grant property rights to nearly 40 lakh [4 million] residents of Delhi, the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill 2019 by voice vote. The bill has already been passed by the Lok Sabha and would now be sent to the President for his assent. Members from across the political divide including the Congress, BSP, RJD and AAP supported the bill but many Opposition leaders questioned the timing of the bill. Replying to members on the bill, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said that the issue of unorganized colonies was on the agenda of the Narendra Modi government ever since it came to power in May, 2014. He termed the opposition members’ remarks as uncalled for. The bill does not include nearly 66 unauthorised colonies such as Sainik Farms and Mahendru Enclave in the list for regularization as they have been classified as “affluent”. Properties in these unauthorised colonies are generally held through general power
One of the over 1,700 unauthorized colonies in Delhi.) of attorney (GPA), will, agreement to sale, payment and possession documents. The properties in these colonies are not being registered by registration authorities and thereby the residents do not have any title documents in respect of such properties. This bill is aimed at recognizing the power
of attorney, will, agreement to sell, purchase and possession documents as a special onetime relaxation. Following the regularisation of the colonies, property holders in these colonies would be able to get loans from banks. They would also be entitled for public facilities like
schools, parks, roads, electricity and water. While members of the treasury benches claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the real champion of the people’s cause and has been consistently delivering on promises, the Opposition questioned the timing of the bill. Introducing the bill, the Housing Minister said that only 9.14 per cent area of the total 1,731 colonies has been excluded as it includes forest land and high-tension electricity wires passing over it. “The exclusions taken together do not account for more than 9.14 per cent of the total area of the 1,731 colonies. If population of 1,731 colonies is 40-50 lakhs [4-5 million], the total area is 176 square kilometres and spread over an area of 43,000 acres,” Puri said. On the remaining unauthorized colonies, the minister said “for the moment, we are confining ourselves to 1,731 colonies and the other 65 colonies will come at a later stage after the current exercise is completed”. The minister said that delineation of boundaries and mapping of unauthorised colonies were progressing fast and would be completed shortly.

Punjab launches free police help to drop women safely home Chandigarh (IANS): Amid growing concern over women’s safety, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday announced free police help to drop women safely home if they are stranded outside between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The statewide facility will be available on dialling 100, 112 and 181, through which the woman caller will be connected immediately to the police control room (PCR). The Chief Minister has directed Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta to ensure the implementation of the facility across the state. The pick-up and drop facility will be available to the women
who do not have access to a safe vehicle, including a taxi or a three-wheeler. To give the woman caller a sense of total security, the Chief Minister has directed that at least one woman police officer should accompany her during the transportation. Dedicated PCR vehicles will be made available at the Commissionerates, as well as Mohali, Patiala, Bathinda and other major towns in the state for the implementation of the scheme, said the DGP. The Deputy Superintendent of Police or Assistant Commissioner (Crime Against Women) will be the nodal officer to implement the scheme in each
district. Their numbers would be available on the government and Punjab Police websites. Additional Director General (Crime) Gurpreet Deo will be the state nodal officer for the facility. The directions have come amid the nationwide public outcry over the rape and murder of a Telangana vet, who was abducted, gang-raped and then set afire by the accused. Expressing shock over the incident, the Chief Minister said his government was committed to ensuring the safety and security of women and would take all possible steps to prevent such incidents.
Kartarpur permit free, says Punjab Chief Minister Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said here on Sunday devotees applying for visa online to visit Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan were not being charged by the Sewa Kendras, set up by the state government. Anyone asked to pay any fee should inform his office directly, he added. Reacting to reports that pilgrims were being charged some facilitation fee for applying through the online portal at the Sewa Kendras, Singh said the application process was free of cost. The Chief Minister said he would personally ensure strict action against officials if any specific complaint was received by the state government. Pointing out that he had been opposing the $20 visa fee imposed by the Pakistan government for devotees travelling to the historic gurdwara through the Kartarpur Corridor, Singh said it was against the religious tenets of Sikhism. In fact, India never charged pilgrims from any country, including from Pakistan, for vis-
Amarinder Singh iting and paying obeisance at any religious shrine, he said and added, his government was against any deviation from this practice. The Sewa Kendras, Singh said, had been issued detailed guidelines for facilitating and processing online applications. His government was committed to ensuring seamless and hassle-free visit of devotees to Kartarpur Sahib for the ‘khulle darshan deedar’, which was the aspiration and right of every Sikh, the Chief Minister said.

Gangster shot dead outside gym in shopping mall in Malout Some “sharp-shooters” shot dead a gangster, Manpreet Singh, alias ‘Manna’, outside a gym in a shopping mall complex on Bathinda road in Malout town on Monday evening. Manna (35), son of a former councillor of the Congress, had come to a gym on a Jaguar car along with his friend. When the duo came out of the gym, the assailants present there in a Brezza car fired nearly 25 rounds. Sources said six-seven bullets hit Manna’s head and chest which claimed his life. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, Malout, where the doctors declared him dead. His friend Jacky Kalra, who suffered a minor injury on his leg, was busy giving statement to the police at the time of filing of this report. Some people present at the spot said above 20 shells of used bullets and two live cartridges, apparently of some pistols, were recovered. Meanwhile, the police reached the spot and the hospital and started investigation. The situation was tense in Malout town after the news spread about the death of Manna. Sources said that though Manna was not a stakeholder in the liquor business yet he was very active in it. Notably, Manna was facing many criminal cases, including the murderous attack on senior SAD leader Dyal Singh
Kolianwali’s son Parminder in 2017. Speaking over the phone, Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu, SSP, Muktsar, said, “The deceased was an old gangster, facing nearly seven cases. Four people came on a Brezza car and shot him dead. We are present on the spot and collecting evidence. As of now, we don’t have any information related to the incident.” After Manna’s killing, a Facebook page in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in a post claimed that the murder was committed by Raju Bhisodi because Manna had turned police informer for the encounter of Ankit Bhadu. Notably, this is not the first time when such claim has been made through a Facebook post.

Singh. Shah made the announcement in the Lok Sabha while responding to Congress MP and Beant Singh’s grandson Ravneet Singh Bittu during Question Hour. Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, whose party is in an alliance with the BJP in Punjab, said in a statement: “We all feel aggrieved today. We thought we had moved ahead when news statements appeared last month disclosing the death sentence of Rajoana had been commuted. “However, today’s assertion has shocked everyone. There is a feeling of hurt that justice has not been done to the Sikh community and the spirit of the clemency which was espoused on the occasion of the 550th Prakash Purb has not been carried through.” He said the Akali Dal stood for adopting a humanitarian approach in the case and had conveyed in this regard to the Union government through various representations.

“We feel this is a deserving case for clemency as Rajoana has spent more than 23 years in prison without parole. The SAD is against the death penalty as a matter of principle and has also represented to the Union government as well as the President on this issue,” Badal said. He said a high-level delegation would meet the Union minister soon and apprise him about the sentiments of the Sikh community and urge that Rajoana’s death sentence be commuted. Addressing the Home Minister, the Ludhiana MP asked in the Lok Sabha: “Why did you commute the death sentence of Balwant Singh Rajoana?” Responding in Hindi, Shah said: “Please, don’t go by media reports. Koi maafi ki nahi gai (the sentence has not been commuted).” The Home Minister’s statement was contrary to the reports last month which said that the Union Home Ministry had commuted Rajoana’s death sentence. Rajoana, 52, who is currently lodged in Patiala Central Jail, is the prime accused in the case and he will now serve life imprisonment. A former Punjab Police constable, Rajoana was sentenced to death on August 1, 2007, by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Chandigarh. The Home Ministry this September had approved the commutation of Rajoana’s death sentence to a life-term as a humanitarian gesture ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, a decision which was criticised by Bittu. Besides Rajoana, the Home Ministry had granted a special dispensation to eight other Sikh prisoners from various jails in the country on the occasion. On March 28, 2012, the Home Ministry had stayed Rajoana’s execution following clemency appeals filed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the Sikh body managing religious shrines. Beant Singh and 16 others were killed in an explosion outside the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh on August 31, 1995. Dilawar Singh, a Punjab Police officer, had acted as a suicide bomber to assassinate Beant Singh. Rajoana was the second bomber in case Dilawar Singh failed to kill the Congress leader. Rajoana had cited the 1984 antiSikh riots as the reason behind the killing of Beant Singh.

ICBC Insurance Premium changes – what does this mean for my car insurance? BY ABBY PANG AS of September 1, 2019, ICBC has made some insurance policy changes. These changes take the approach that at-fault crashes should follow the driver instead of the registered owner. When you go to renew your insurance after September 1, 2019, your insurance broker will ask you to list everyone who drives or will be driving your vehicle. This is now a requirement. Under the new ICBC insurance policy changes you
must list all drivers of your vehicle, especially household members, employees and anyone who has driven your vehicle for more than 12 days in the 12 months. You can add or remove
drivers at any time – for instance, if a friend decides they want to start driving your vehicle and you did not list them at the time of renewal, you must contact your insurance broker immediately and list them as a driver before they start driving your vehicle. So how does this impact your insurance premium? Basically, the Basic insurance premium you pay when you go in for your renewal will consist of your base insurance premium (which is $1,063 as of April
1, 2019), driver category (i.e. driving experience/crash history of listed drivers) and vehicle category (i.e. where you live and how you use the vehicle). So 75% of your Basic insurance premium will be based on the principal operator and 25% will be based on the highest risk driver you have listed. However, this does not mean that you can just add lower-risk drivers to reduce your insurance premium. If the listed driver is lower-risk than the principal operator, then there will
only be a reduction if the listed driver is a household member or employee. Additionally, if you have a learner driver listed, there will be an additional Learner Premium applied to your insurance premium. If an unlisted driver causes an accident while driving your vehicle, you could face a one-time financial consequence. The financial consequence is 15 times the difference between what you paid for your last insurance renewal and what it would have cost if you had listed
the unlisted driver who caused the crash. The financial consequence can go up to a maximum of $5,000. Our legal team at Simpson, Thomas & Associates believes that it is important for all vehicle owners and drivers to be kept well informed about such changes. If you or a loved one has been injured in a motor vehicle accident, please call us at (604) 689-8888 to schedule a complimentary consultation.
PUNJAB Punjab signs pact to study hyperloop transport feasibility Chandigarh (IANS): The Punjab government on Tuesday signed a pact with US-based Virgin Hyperloop One to explore the feasibility of a hyperloop transport infrastructure project in Amritsar-Ludhiana-ChandigarhNational Capital Region corridor in a bid to improve the inter-city transportation in the region. “We signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Los Angeles-based Virgin Hyperloop One to conduct a pre-feasibility economic study for the project,” said Vini Mahajan, state Additional Chief Secretary (Investment Promotion). Virgin Hyperloop One is supported by Dubai-based D.P. World, its largest investor. The MoU was signed by K. Siva Prasad, Principal Secretary (Transport), and Harj Dhaliwal, Managing Director (Middle East and India)
of Virgin Hyperloop One, in the presence of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and D.P. World Subcontinent CEO and Managing Director, Rizwan Soomar. Virgin Hyperloop One is also in discussions with the government of Haryana for a separate MoU to evaluate the feasibility of a hyperloop system that could potentially extend the route from Punjab to the NCR. As per company’s initial estimates, a hyperloop transportation project along the Amritsar-Ludhiana-Chandigarh corridor could reduce travel time from five hours by road to less than 30 minutes. “Punjab is very keen to be the second state in India, after Maharashtra, to build a hyperloop system. Specifically, we would like to explore a hyperloop project through Punjab, connecting with other metropolitan centres in
the country. In the future, this project could link beyond Punjab to connect to the NCR,” said Amarinder Singh. “The hyperloop project prefeasibility study will be completed within six weeks. It will evaluate several measures such as cost, demand, and socio-economic benefits of the corridor,” said Invest Punjab advisor Moshe Kohli. “We are excited to be partnering with the government of Punjab in this study. A hyperloop route in Punjab can be transformative for the state and we look forward to moving ahead on this project, just as have we done in Maharashtra. There is tremendous economic potential in connecting some of Punjab’s biggest cities, such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh,” said Harj Dhaliwal, MD -- India and Middle East, Virgin Hyperloop One.
Punjab to regulate groundwater Chandigarh (IANS): The Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved the creation of the Punjab Water Regulation and Development Authority, which will be empowered to issue directions on water extraction but will not be authorised to impose any restrictions or tariff on extraction of water for drinking, domestic and agriculture purposes. The Cabinet, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, decided to promulgate an ordinance called the Punjab Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Ordinance, 2019. The proposed legislation is aimed at development, management and regula-
tion of water resources of the state for ensuring their judicious, equitable and sustainable utilisation and management, an official spokesperson told IANS after the Cabinet meeting. The authority would be empowered to issue general directions related to extraction and use of groundwater, besides ensuring optimal and efficient utilisation of all water resources in the state, including canal irrigation. It will also issue guidelines on recycling and reuse of water and its conservation. The legislation does not allow any restriction to be imposed on extraction of groundwater for drinking or domestic purposes. For
drinking, domestic and agriculture purposes, the authority would be guided by the policy of the state. It would, however, be required to issue tariff orders for use of water for industrial and commercial use. Also, the Cabinet decided to revise charges for the use of river or canal water for purposes other than agriculture. The proposed rates are on par with neighbouring state of Haryana, and the revision is expected to increase the revenue generated from water charges from the existing Rs 24 crore [Rs 240 million] per annum to Rs 319 crore [Rs 3,190 million] per annum, said the spokesperson.

When asked about the age gap and if it ever bothered her, she said, “I don’t know, actually. I have not thought of it that way.” She further also said that one should ask Salman Khan himself the reason behind this. “What is he eating or what is he doing to keep looking so young and keep romancing the younger girls with every film,” Sonakshi was quoted. But when the news portal asked Sonakshi her thoughts on Madhuri Dixit romancing Ishaan Khatter, the actress said, “I don’t know. That’s a bit odd. Honestly, if I was, I was at an age of 50, I would feel odd romancing a guy who’s 22-years-old. So that’s a personal opinion. So yeah, I don’t know.,” Sonakshi told Quint. When asked if it was sexist, the actress concluded by saying, “that just shows what kind of a country we live in.” Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Nikhil Dwivedi under the

Rishi Kapoor is back at work, to begin shooting for film with Juhi Chawla: report Actor Rishi Kapoor, who will soon be seen in Emraan Hashmi’s The Body, will reportedly begin shooting for his first film post his cancer treatment on Thursday. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, the film will also feature Juhi Chawla. A Mumbai Mirror report quoted a source as saying, “Hitesh’s film is currently under pre-production. It will be shot from scratch and goes on the floors in Mumbai on Thursday. This will be followed by a month-long schedule in Delhi
in January.” Rishi had begun shooting for the untitled film in Delhi last year when he was diagnosed with cancer and had to rush to the Sloan Ketter-
ing Hospital in the US to begin his treatment, it added.. The film marks the reunion of Juhi and Rishi on screen after a long gap of 10 years. The
two last worked together in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance (2009). The tabloid added that Rishi had completed some patchwork for The Body in a quick span of three days. Recently, Rishi talked at length about young actors and asserted that craft should be the top priorities, not looks. “These days, budding actors are more interested in grooming and building their body. They focus on building muscles than emotional exercise, which is important for actors.
Build your mind rather than your body when you prepare for acting, because if you have the acting skill, you will surely become an actor. If you don’t have that, you are replaceable. Look at me, do I have the body? But I am still working, because in every film I try to create a character.” he told IANS last week. “Okay, I maybe old, I do not inspire youngsters. But look at Ayushmann (Khurrana), Rajkummar Rao, Ranveer Singh, Vicky (Kaushal) and -- I’m not
taking his name because he is my son -- but Ranbir too is a talented actor! None of them have ‘dole-shole’ (muscles). Kyunki dole rahne se, kalakar nehi banoge. Bus gym mein paise phukega (Having muscles won’t ensure you will be an artist, you’ll only waste money in the gym). (Amitabh) Bachchan saab ko dekho (look at Mr Amitabh Bachchan), he did not have muscles. But even today, he is the original angry young man of Hindi cinema,” he added.

The perfect Omega-3
IT’S been aptly said, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that ain’t so.” For instance, most North Americans believe that when they eat fish twice weekly as recommended, or take omega-3 fish-oil supplements, that they have sufficient omega-3 essential fatty acids. But a Canadian study using the Omega-3 Index shows that ain’t so. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) including omega-3 are needed for growth, healthy cellular membranes, many reactions in the body, and are crucial for brain, mood, joint, and
cardiovascular health. So EFAs have been called, “nutritional missing links”. Two of these essential acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) are key to the reduction of cellular inflammation and they can be measured in our red blood cells. Study after study show that North Americans consume less than what’s required for optimal health. There’s evidence this deficiency is contributing to today’s illnesses. For instance, low levels of EFAs have been associated with mental disorders, such as attention-deficit hyperactivity, depression, and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as rheumatoid arthritis and several other diseases. Studies have reported that patients consuming fish oils show decreased blood triglycerides, decreased total cholesterol, lower bad cholesterol, and higher good cholesterol. These patients also had fewer incidences of irregular heartbeats and reduced risk of heart attack. Now, a Canadian study has shown a relationship between the risk of coronary heart disease and the level of omega-3 in red blood cells. The shocking news is that 97% of Canadians do not have omega-3 fats measuring high enough to place them in the low risk range! So why are people lacking EFAs? It’s because of low dietary intake of fish and poor
fat absorption of the fish we do eat. Compounding the problem is the fact that absorption of fish oil is low even when loading up through typical supplements. Our bodies are largely made up of water. So these essential fatty acids often pass directly through our digestive system. To correct this problem a Canadian company has developed a patented fish oil to help with absorption in the digestive tract. A new technology using enzymes allows this unique “pre-digested” fish oil to be better digested. Studies conducted in laboratories in Sherbrooke, Quebec show absorption is three times greater than with other fish oils. The patented ingredient is called MaxSimil. Readers can find the reports of clinical trials online. Ask for details in natural health food stores. The Omega-3 Index is a risk factor test for heart disease. It simply measures the amount of EPA and DHA in the blood, specifically in the red blood cell membranes. But unlike cholesterol, you do not need a doctor, as kits are available online. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the Omega-3 Index can be just as important as cholesterol blood level. It advises patients whether they are in the ideal range, whether borderline, or at higher risk of sudden cardiac death. Nearly half are in the high-risk category.
Some people using fish oils complain of gastric reflux. But MaxSimil is designed to by-pass several digestive processes and is less likely to cause stomach upset. Today, heart disease is the number two cause of death in Canada. It’s also worrying that 8% of Canadians have been diagnosed with heart disease. This increases the risk of death by three times. And men are two times more likely to suffer a heart attack than women. Reports show that U.S citizens share this same risk. So remember, it’s often the things you know for sure that ain’t so. PUNJAB Punjab may sign deal with Japan to launch e-buses
Chandigarh (IANS): The Punjab government is in talks with Japan to launch electric vehicle (EV) buses based on the Japanese model of state-of-the-art quick charge lithium-ion batteries, beginning with a pilot of five buses in Chandigarh and Patiala, an official said on Monday. The government will take forward the discussions on the Japanese EV Corridor during the forthcoming Progressive Punjab Investors Summit 2019 in which the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), a Japanese government-related organisation, is partnering for the country session. The JETRO promotes mutually beneficial trade and investment between Japanese
organizations and other countries. A delegation led by the Japanese Ambassador to India will attend the summit, which will also see the participation of key stakeholders from Mitsui, SML Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Yanmar, according to state Additional Chief Secretary Investment Promotion Vini Mahajan. Punjab is also pursuing the setting up of a centre of excellence in advanced and emerging technologies with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, she said. Recently, Ludhiana-based Vardhman Special Steels Ltd received a capital infusion of approximately Rs 500 million from Japan’s
Aichi Steel Corp, which acquired 11.4 per cent stake in the Indian steel major. Vardhman’s Ludhiana plant will supply special steel components to Toyota’s Chennai plant for manufacturing automobiles. They will develop special steel grades for automotive companies in India to help fill the gap of providing substitution of steel that is currently being imported. In September 2018, Sumitomo Corp, which holds over 50 per cent stake in SML ISUZU, invested Rs 200 crore in technology, product development and expanding production capacity to 25,000 units per shift from 15,000 units at its Nawanshahar plant in Punjab.
Other Japanese companies that have invested in Punjab’s automobile industry are Yanmar Holding, which owns over 20 per cent stake in International Tractors Ltd (commonly known as Sonalika), the biggest tractor manufacturers in the country. They are now planning to launch new hybrid tractors in India - Micro Hybrid, Mild Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid (three variants). Further, New Swan Technologies, a leading Punjab-based manufacturer of fine blank, metal sheet parts and sub-assemblies, has entered into a technology collaboration with Gunma Seiko for manufacturing of precision cold forging components for the automotives and general industries.

Salman Khan is down to earth: Dabangg 3 choreographer Shabina Khan Mumbai (IANS): Choreographer Shabina Khan, who choreographed songs for Salman Khan’s upcoming movie “Dabangg 3” is all praises for the superstar. Shabina says Salman is a down to earth person with a golden heart. “It is always wonderful working with him. It is a big thing for me to choreograph a star like him and I feel proud. He is a down-toearth person with a golden heart. He gives a lot of respect to women. When I was an assistant, he used to call me by my name but now he addresses me as madam. I like his manners.” How easy or difficult is it to choreograph Salman Khan? Shabina, who has earlier worked with the actor in movies like “Jai Ho”, “Dabangg” and “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” replied: “It is not difficult to choreograph Salman Khan if you know him. As I have been working with him for a long time, for me it is not so difficult because I know his style. He has a certain body language which is different and has a great style. He does not rehearse much. I go to the set with several options of steps and show them to him. He will rehearse on spot for ten minutes and then gives the shot.” Shabina added that among the options she offers him, if Salman likes a step, he will follow it without further questioning. She said: “He does improvise but if he likes a step, he completely
follows it. I always go to him with at least 4-5 options for a step . If he likes a step, he says let’s do this. If he feels something better can be done, then he chooses from whatever options I offer him.” The choreographer further revealed that creating steps for the character of Chulbul Pandey took time. Because she is a woman, she needed time to get into the macho male character. “While creating dance steps for Chulbul Pandey, I had to keep in mind that it is a very popular character. He has certain mannerisms of walking, talking and looking. Being a female choreographer, I had to learn the body language of that male character. It took me two days to get into the character of Chulbul Pandey. People used to get surprised on the set when I started walking and talking like Chulbul Pandey,” recalled Shabina. The choreographer who has assisted Prabhu Deva earlier in her career, was also a little apprehensive whether the dance legend, who is the director of “Dabangg 3” will approve her steps or not.
She said: “I created almost 10-15 steps for the song ‘Hud hud Dabangg’ and it took time. Prabhu(dheva) sir is the director of the film and I have earlier worked with him as an assistant. He is a legendary choreographer. So, I was a little scared about whether he will like my steps or not. We finally used three steps in the song and the one in which he (Salman Khan) is rolling up his sleeves, everybody loved it.” The song “Hud hud Dabangg” recently courted controversy after netizens expressed anger over the video which shows saffronclad sadhus dancing with guitars in their hands. Calling it “maligning” and “insulting” Hindu sentiment and culture, netizens demanded an apology from Salman Khan while the hashtag #boycottdabangg3 trended on Twitter. Directed by Prabhudheva, “Dabangg 3” stars Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and newcomer Saiee Manjrekar. The film, which is the third instalment in the successful “Dabangg” franchise, is slated to hit theatres on December 20.

Alia Bhatt-Ranbir Kapoor Wedding In Winter Of 2020 The Bollywood’s ‘Wedding of the Year 2020’ is happening. Yes, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt will tie the knot most definitely next year, probably in the winter season . “By that time, both of them hope to clear all their pending assignments. Ranbir and Alia have decided to take at least a month off for their wedding. And for that to happen, they need to complete their underproduction films,” says an informed source. While Ranbir is busy with Yash Raj Film’s Shamshera, Alia has various films on the floor, including her father Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2 and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Says the source, “Ranbir can clear the decks for the wedding sooner rather than later. Alia is far busier of the two. They will wait until November-December 2020 for their wedding,” says the source. The wedding is most likely to happen outside India to avoid the unwanted atten-
tion. Alia and Ranbir have been dating each other since they began working together in Brahmastra. It is believed that the film’s director Ayan Mukerji, who was Katrina’s close buddy, played a cupid between Alia and Ranbir also.
Alia Bhatt on ‘Brahmastra’ delay: Good things take time Mumbai (IANS): Actress Alia Bhatt has come up with a witty quip responding to the delay in release of her ambitious upcoming film, “Brahmastra”. She said good things take time. “It’s a very different kind of film and good things take time,” said Alia, talking about the delay of the sci-fi adventure drama “Brahmastra”, costarring Amitabh Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor. Recently, Big B joined Ranbir and Alia for an outdoor shoot in Manali for the Ayan Mukerji film. Big B took to Twitter on Monday to share a candid picture of himself with Ranbir. He shared the picture with a caption: “Minus degrees.. err like -3.. protective gear.. and the work etiquette.”
“Brahmastra” is the first part of a sci-fi trilogy. The film is scheduled for release in summer 2020 in 3D, IMAX and standard formats.

Marriage Story (PG) **** Divide and Conquer!
Work at your marriage. Truer words were never spoken. Or face the consequences of a relationship gone bad. Whether you are in love or not see what may result when things go astray in affairs of the heart in Marriage Story. Said to be the best break-up movie since the classic Kramer versus Kramer this Netflix release gets the full screen treatment at the Vancouver VanCity Theatre before coming to the small screen. Spot on writing from director Norma Ephron immerses audiences in the plight of a young upstart couple. Both Scarlett Johansson
and Adam Driver are sensational as a married couple from New York who toil away in The theatre. After 10 years of marriage and young son Henry the pair decide to go their own ways. Sort of. Big time reluctancy sets in along with a huge amount of pentup emotion and rage. Send In the clowns. Or in this case the lawyers. When the wife high tails it to L.A. to pursue an acting career and get a fresh start it’s time for both parties to lawyer up. Legal beagles come
out fast and furious as Laura Dern, Alan Alda and Ray Liotta suit up. A word of advice - don’t get caught in their crossfire - or crosshairs. Soul searching abounds in Marriage Story. A well defined script delivered to perfection by Driver and Johansson who are at the top of their game make Marriage Story as real as it gets. Take the best advice possible and try to work things out before things get out of control with those lawyers reaping those not so just rewards.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ The newest member of driving performance is here: the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV. This top-ofthe-line performer naturally takes to the starting line with state-of-the-art engine technology: an AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine that generates 603 hp paired for the first time with the EQ Boost starter-alternator. Accompanied by an additional electric output of 21 hp, a 48-volt on-board electrical system, and a cylinder shutoff and gasoline particulate filter, GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ is primed for optimum efficiency. Fully variable allwheel drive, air suspension with adaptive damping
and active roll stabilisation, combined with the extremely fast-shifting TCT 9G transmission; further move the limits of vehicle dynamics. For the very first time, the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine in the new GLE 63 S is paired with an integrated EQ Boost starter-alternator.
It combines a starter motor and an alternator in a single, powerful electric motor space-savingly integrated between the engine and the transmission. The additional 21 hp of output plus 184 lb-ft of torque can be called upon temporarily not only enable more spontane-
ous moving-off characteristics. This innovative component supplies the 48-volt on-board electrical system, also performs hybrid functions. This allows the GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ to achieve fuel savings previously reserved for high-voltage hybrid technology. Transmission is via an eight speed automatic. The high-quality interior is characterised by a systematically sporty ambience with a dynamic and exclusive touch. The standard AMG seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, provide optimum lateral support and have an AMGspecific seat pattern layout with an “AMG” badge in
the front backrests. Available are leather variants in black, black/crystal grey accents, black/macchiato beige, black/truffle brown and black/red pepper. Individually adjustable ambient lighting is on board as standard, as is a second seat row with full electric adjustment. AMG-specific interior appointments and controls lend the cockpit a hallmark AMG atmosphere and support sporty, precise handling. The latest generation, three-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles and a 12-o’clock marking impresses with its optimum
driver-oriented ergonomics. AMG steering wheel buttons are standard for particularly fast operation of dynamically relevant parameters. The innovative MBUX control and display concept in the new Performance SUVs creates an even closer bond between the vehicle, driver and passengers. At the same time, the latest version of the infotainment system contributes to the great day-to-day practicality. Emotive displays such as the particularly striking Supersport mode with a central rev counter and 3D-look scales lend visual depth to the instrument and accentuate the exclusivity.
MotorTrend Names Ram Heavy Duty 2020 Truck of the Year
Auburn Hills, Mich.: MotorTrend has named the Ram Heavy Duty its 2020 Truck of the Year®. As voted on by the editors of the automotive publication, the Ram Heavy Duty’s win is the second in as many years for the brand with the Ram 1500 earning the 2019 Truck of the Year title last year. Since becoming a standalone brand a decade ago, Ram Truck has captured MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year title five times: 2010, 2013, 2014, 2019 and 2020. MotorTrend’s “Of the Year” award recognizes the best vehicles representing exceptional value, superiority in their classes and impact on the automotive scene. This accolade is one of the most coveted automotive industry awards and represents the pinnacle of an extremely competitive segment. “The new Ram Heavy Duty makes a powerful statement about our company and the
Ram Truck brand,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. “In a brutally competitive truck industry, earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year title in consecutive years reaffirms the fact that we have the best lightand heavy-duty trucks on the road today.” MotorTrend’s “Of the Year” program is open to any all-new or substantially upgraded 2020 model-year vehicles. Instead of being compared against one another, contending vehicles are first put through MotorTrend’s full battery of performance tests to evaluate virtually every aspect of each vehicle. All competitors are then evaluated on three separate courses at a professional automotive test center before finalists are selected. “Ram Heavy Duty is MotorTrend’s 2020 Truck of the Year because it delivers unmatched performance, capability and style to the ultracompetitive truck segment,” said MotorTrend Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh. “Engineered for work and play, Ram 2500 and 3500 reward true truckers with unflappable powertrains, sumptuous, high-tech interiors and a range of thoughtful utility features. Congratulations to Ram for backto-back Truck of the Year wins.” After weeks of testing conclude, the judges
