New Delhi (IANS): Pro-Khalistan terrorist Harmeet Singh, aka PhD, who was killed in Pakistan on Monday, was among the list of 15 pro-Khalistan activists active in the neighbouring country in the garb of making preparations for celebrating the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in November last year. Singh was shot outside a gurdwara near the Wagah Border by some unidentified persons over some financial dispute. A leader of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), Singh was killed on Monday near Dera Chahal Gurdwara on the outskirts of Lahore. According to the Indian intelligence agencies, India submitted a 23-page dossier of 15 pro-Khalistani activists residing in Pakistan, containing events from the past four years, during the second round of Kartarpur Corridor talks between the two countries in Wagah in July last year. The dossier had year-wise pictorial details of Gopal Singh Chawla, a key Khalistani element, and his antiIndia activities on social media. The Indian agencies also gave as many as 11 photographs from his Facebook account, including posters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, as part of the dossier. The dossier handed over to Pakistan also included the details of Jagroop Singh Rupa, who went with a jatha to Pakistan in 2016, and was given arms training by fugitive Sikh militants Lakhbir Singh Rode and Harmeet Singh to carry out terror attacks in India. Singh, who hailed from Amritsar and was allegedly involved in the

murder of Brigadier (Retd) Jagdish Kumar Gagneja, the then-Vice Chief (Sah Sanghchalak) of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for Punjab, in 2016-2017, was among
eight Khalistan-linked terrorists against whom the Interpol had issued red corner notices last year. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the case of the RSS leader’s murder, has filed a chargesheet against 11 accused persons, including a British national with links to Khalistani terrorists, in at least six countries last year. During its probe, the NIA has found that eight acts of such targeted killings were executed as part of this conspiracy between January 2016 and October 2017 in Punjab. And all the persons targeted belonged to right-wing organisations. The NIA, in its chargesheet, said the objective of the conspiracy was to destabilise the law and order situation in Punjab and revive
Khalistani terrorism in the state. The NIA investigations revealed that funds were supplied from Italy, Australia and the UK to the perpetrators of the killings. These funds were used by the accused to purchase weapons to execute the murders and fund other logistics. The NIA chargesheet included the name of Harmeet Singh, Gurjinder Singh aka Shastri and Gursharanbir Singh alias Gurusharan Singh Wahiwala alias Pehalwan. Besides them, the NIA has also named Hardeep Singh alias Shera, Ramandeep Singh alias Canadian alias Bagga, Dharminder Singh alias Guguni, Anil Kumar alias Kala, Jagtar Singh Johal alias Jaggi alias Johar, Amaninder Singh alias Mindu, Manpreet Singh alias Mani and Ravipal Singh alias Bhunda, who have been arrested.
STORY INSIDE An anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon system was also paraded along the Rajpath as part of the 71st Republic Day parade in New Delhi for the first time this year in a show of military strength. India last year became the fourth country to carry out an ASAT test, when it destroyed one of its own satellites in low-Earth orbit.

Stagnant income has turned mood negative New Delhi (IANS): The Narendra Modi-led government has enjoyed popularity riding on emotional issues, but the mood is fast turning negative with many people finding their income stagnated over the last one year. Ahead of the Union budget on February 1, an IANSCVoter poll has shown
that the majority of those surveyed have seen their income remain the same while expenses have gone up substantially since 2019. As a result, the negativity is as deep as it was in the last years of the Manmohan Singh-led government in 2012-13. In the IANS-CVoter survey conducted in the last two weeks of January,
75.8 per cent respondents felt the economic environment in the country was negative. In 2013, nearly 72 per cent people had considered the growth environment depressed and negative. As per the survey, the overall scenario has failed to improve much in the last few years of the Modi gov-
ernment, suggesting that the nationalist ideas have ruled the minds of the people. As much as 28.7 per cent respondents out of a total sample size of 4,292 said that their income went down while expenditure shot up. Nearly 44 per cent people said that their income remained the same
while expenditure went up. A comparison of this year’s poll results with that of the previous year shows that economic situations have deteriorated, thus posing a huge challenge to the Modi government to do course correction. Only three out of 100 considered that the overall economic environment
was positive. A fifth of the respondents described the overall economic environment as neutral with both income and expenditure increasing. While 11.5 per cent people said that their income and expense both went up, 7.6 per cent said that their earning and spending remained the same.
Modi, Sitharaman have no idea what to do next: Rahul
New Delhi (IANS): Just three day ahead of the Union Budget, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the country’s state of economy, saying they have no idea what to do next.
“Modi and his dream team of economic advisors have literally turned the economy around. Earlier: GDP: 7.5 per cent, Inflation: 3.5 per cent. Now: GDP: 3.5 per cent and Inflation: 7.5 per cent. The Prime Minister and Finance Minister have absolutely no idea what to do next,” Gandhi tweeted.
Sitharaman will present the Union Budget in Parliament on Saturday. The Congress leaders have held press conferences on the state of economy since Monday to highlight the financial mismanagement of the country.
India’s first coronavirus case in Kerala Thiruvananthapuram (IANS): Kerala Health Minister K.K. Shailaja on Thursday confirmed India’s first-ever positive case of coronavirus in Thrissur. A girl student who returned from China’s Wuhan has tested positive, the minister said. Shailaja, however, said there is no need to panic, adding the girl is being kept in isolation in a hospital. “So far, we have sent 20 samples for testing of which 10 turned negative, results of six are awaited, and one case tested positive. Four other samples have also been sent,” Shailaja said, adding a second gene sequence test is to be done. “The patient returned from Wuhan where this virus was first found out,” the Minister said. “Her condition is stable and she is improving. Everybody returning from China should report to the health authorities but we found out that not all are reporting,” she said. The Minister said instructions have been given to all state-run hospitals to see that proper steps are taken to face any eventuality. “We are fully ready to tackle this and I reiterate there is no need to panic at all,” she said. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

first announced that a positive case of coronavirus from Kerala has come to light. “One positive case of Novel Coronavirus -- a student studying in Wuhan University -- has been reported from Kerala,” said a statement released by the Health Ministry. “The patient is stable and is being closely monitored,” said the ministry statement. According to the figures put out on Wednesday night by the Kerala health authorities, around 800 people are under observation with 10 in hospitals and the rest at their homes. Many firsts enthrall crowd at 71st Republic Day parade New Delhi (IANS): The 71st Republic Day parade on Sunday showcased India’s cultural diversity as well as military prowess with many firsts as hundreds of men, women and children donning thick woollens braved the morning winter chill to watch the annual ceremony at Rajpath. A blanket of thick fog that engulfed the city in the morning and tight security restrictions could not deter the enthusiastic crowd from venturing out to gather at Rajpath, literary ‘King’s Way’ - a ceremonial boulevard that runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill to India Gate. The parade, a showcase of an impeccable display of might by the armed forces and India’s soft power, this year had many firsts to its credit. Sporting a saffron turban with a long free-flowing end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Brazil President Jair Messias Bolsonaro as the chief guest for the first time at the ceremony. However, this was the third time that a Brazilian president graced the Republic Day parade. Previous instances were in 1996 and 2004. The who’s who of the government, including President Ram Nath Kovind and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were seated when 22 tableaus - 16 from states and union territories and the rest from various ministries and departments - took part in the majestic parade at Delhi’s Rajpath. Breaking from tradition, Prime Minister Modi for the first time paid tributes to the country’s fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial, instead of Amar Jawan Jyoti, ahead of the majestic parade at Rajpath. Previously, the wreath laying

This was followed by the ‘Vic’ formation of Chinook helicopters, used for airlifting diverse loads to remote locations, Sukhoi formation and Flanker formation. Also marching for the first time in the Republic Day parade was the contingent of the Corps of Army Air Defence. It Personnel from the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment were among those marching in formation at the event. ceremony followed by a salute by dignitaries during Republic Day was held at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, located under the arch of India Gate. After the Prime Minister laid the floral wreath at the National War Memorial, the President unfurled the National flag and the National Anthem was played with a booming 21-gun salute. It was the first Republic Day ceremony in which newly-appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat took part. The CDS along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Shripad Yesso Naik, the three services chiefs and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar were standing behind the Prime Minister according to protocol. Another first, and a thrilling one at that, was the sight of women officers of the Central Reserve Police Force riding 350 cc Royal Enfield motorcycles, performing acrobatics and daredevil stunts with panache along the Rajpath. In its debut show at 71st Republic Day, the contingent was commanded by Inspector Seema Nag, who is posted with the Rapid Action Force (RAF). They displayed several
acts of daring bike riding and concluded by forming a human pyramid on multiple motorcycles. In yet another first on giving adequate representation to women in the ceremony, Captain Tania Sher Gill, an officer serving with the Army’s Corps of Signals, led an all-male marching contingent during the parade. Although Gill is the second woman to do this, she was the first woman officer to lead an all-male marching contingent during the Army Day parade on January 15. The Dhanush artillery gun and the anti-satellite missile system was part of the Republic Day parade for the first time this year in a show of military strength which also included Anti-Satellite Weapons (ASAT) from ‘Mission Shakti’. Also displayed for the first time were the 5-metre Short Span Bridge System and the 15-metre Sarvatra Bridge System. Newly-inducted Chinook heavy lift and Apache attack choppers were displayed for the first time during the parade at the Rajpath at the grand finale, the most keenly awaited segments of the parade. ‘Trishul’ flypast was carried out by three Advanced Light Heli-

was followed by the Combined Band of Bengal Engineers Group and Centre, Brigade of Guards Training Centre, 3 Electronics and Mechanical Engineers Centre and Madras Regimental Centre. After the event concluded, the Prime Minister walked down a few metres along Rajpath -like he did last year -- waving towards the crowd. Around the parade venue, the
city had literally turned into a fortress with special security teams, anti-aircraft guns and snipers deployed to keep a vigil on the eight-km path from Rajpath to Red Fort. Hundreds of CCTV cameras and drones kept a close watch on people’s movements along the route. Nearly 60,000 security personnel from Delhi Police and central security forces were deployed in central Delhi.

Amarinder Singh to meet PM against review of Minimum Support Price policy Chandigarh (IANS): Perceiving the Agriculture Price Commission’s latest recommendation to the Centre to review the MSP policy as a serious threat to state’s farmers, Punjab Congress MPs on Wednesday asked Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to approach the Prime Minister and urge him not to consider any such review.
At a meeting convened by the Chief Minister here to discuss budget proposals for the next fiscal and various issues pending with the Centre, MPs belonging to both Houses of Parliament decided that the Chief Minister press upon the Prime Minister the dangers of accepting the Agriculture Price Commission’s recommendation.
Any change in the MSP procurement policy will adversely impact Punjab’s economy, they felt, expressing the fear the Centre would limit procurement as the first step towards putting an end to MSP purchase. Briefing the MPs on the status of the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal case, the Chief Minister asked the MPs to push

for amendment to Proviso of Section 12 of the Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill 2019, to protect state’s water resources. It was decided at the meeting that officials would be deputed by the state to coordinate with and brief the MPs on issues concerning Punjab. This was essential to ensure more effective interventions in matters relating the state, said a spokesperson after the meeting. During the discussion on MSP and procurement, the meeting referred to a note by the Punjab Ministry of Distribution relating to evacuation of Central pool food grains from the Food and Public Consumer Affairs to underline the problems currently faced by the state in terms of tardy and slow procurement of wheat and rice by central agencies. A presentation by the department showed that 140 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat and 95 LMT of rice belonging to the Central pool are currently stored in the state and the wheat is lying in the open. It was decided the MPs would press the Centre for immediate evacuation of the Central pool food grains from the state in view of the threat to the quality of stored wheat due to

The state will also continue to pursue through the MPs, the matter of promotion of maize as an alternative crop to paddy, it was decided at the meeting. Among the other key issues of Punjab’s interest pending with the Centre, that came up for discussion during the meeting, were state’s demand for compensation of Rs 100 per quintal to farmers for zero burning of paddy residue, reduction of tax rate for dairy cooperatives, and exemption of dairy products from free trade negotiations. The meeting expressed concern over the pending issue of settlement of food cash credit account of Punjab, to the tune of Rs 31,000 crore [1 crore = 10 million], and it was decided that the MPs would aggres-
sively pursue the matter with the Central government. The Chief Minister pointed out that the cash-crunched state was suffering immensely due to the delay in settlement of this amount. The MPs were also asked by the Chief Minister to press for declaration of eco-sensitive zone around Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary in Chandigarh for the areas falling in Punjab. The issues of establishment of PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur and establishment of a second AIIMS in the state were also discussed in detail. The meeting was attended by Lok Sabha MPs, Amar Singh, Jasbir Singh Gill, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, Preneet Kaur, Manish Tewari, Gurjeet Singh Aujla and Mohd Sadiq and Rajya Sabha MPs, Shamsher Singh Dullo and Pratap Singh Bajwa.

Akalis promoting interest by backing BJP in Delhi: Amarinder Singh
Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday lashed out at the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for bartering away the Constitutional principles to promote their political interest, with their latest U-turn over supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi polls. Reacting to SAD president Sukhbir Badal’s latest statement that the party had thrown its weight behind the BJP in Delhi, the Chief Minister said these flip-flops had nailed the Akali lies on their stand on the “unconstitutional and divisive” Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). Referring to Sukhbir’s explanation for the Uturn, that the miscommunications between the two parties had been sorted out, Amarinder Singh demanded to know whether the BJP had agreed to amending the CAA in line with SAD’s earlier stand, or the Akalis had once again surrendered themselves to the BJP at the cost of the nation’s interest.
Sukhbir Badal “You owe an explanation to the people,” he told Sukhbir, castigating him for the SAD’s unprincipled stand on this issue of grave concern, which had been getting exposed every second day, since they openly and wholeheartedly supported CAA in Parliament. The SAD’s decision to backtrack on its earlier
Punjab Chief Minister seeks detection equipment to check Pakistani drones
Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday underlined the need for high-end precision detection equipment to check the use of drones by Pakistan to smuggle long-range weapons across the border. The issue came up for discussion during the meeting convened by the Chief Minister here with the ruling party MPs from both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. The Punjab Chief Minister expressed concern over the increase in the spate of activities by the ISI at the Punjab border in the wake of growing pressure in Jammu and Kashmir. Amarinder Singh said he had already flagged the issue with the Centre and had written to the Ministry of Home Affairs back in August 2019, when the first of instance of use of such drones came to light. He had expressed serious concern over the de-
livery of weapons through the drone like a longrange weapons consignment from across the Indo-Pak border, terming it a matter of national security concern. He had pointed out in his letter that various lands of contraband, including weapons, explosives and drugs, could be safely delivered via drones. During the meeting, the Chief Minister reiterated the need to prepare strategies for the development and installation of the required assets or infrastructure, such as radars, that can detect movement of different kinds of low flying conventional aerial platforms, such as UAVs and drones. Suitable counter-measures against the use of such drones would also need to be evolved, he stressed. Besides the MPs, the meeting was attended by state Congress President Sunil Jakhar and senior officials of the state government.
stand to extend its support to the BJP in Delhi just a week before the scheduled polls indicated that they had used CAA as a bargaining chip to secure some political gains, said the Chief Minister. This development, he said, clearly exposed the Akalis’ selfish intentions and the Badal family’s desperation to hold on to power as part of the ruling alliance at the Centre. Amarinder Singh said Sukhbir’s shameless face-about on the issue showed that the Badals had no longer had any qualms about abandoning even the pretence of the SAD being a principled party. It was sad that a party formed to uphold certain principles no longer cared about political ethics, nor did it seem concerned about following the ideology of the great Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev, who had propagated the oneness of all beings, irrespective of their religion, he added.
Rather than quit the ruling NDA, which would have been the right thing to do after claiming not to support CAA without inclusion of Muslims, Sukhbir had chosen to stay with the BJP, whatever the cost for the people of India, the Chief Minister said. The SAD U-turn in Delhi had also further accentuated the divide within the Akalis, which appeared to be on the verge of another split, said Amarinder Singh, adding that the party was clearly a divided house and no longer capable of giving a political fight on its own, which had become evident in Haryana. Obviously, they need the BJP to hand-hold them on the political ladder, especially in view of the fact that elections in Punjab are just two years away and they have no political leg to stand on, he said. No wonder Sukhbir had been constrained to clarify, just two days ago, that the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab was intact.
New Government Medical College at Hoshiarpur; Civil Hospital to be upgraded Chandigarh (IANS): Responding to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s request, the Centre has given approval for setting up a new Government Medical College at Hoshiarpur, besides upgrading the existing local Civil Hospital. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare conveyed its approval to the state government on Tuesday evening under the centrally sponsored scheme for setting up the new medical college attached with existing district/referral hospital (Phase-III), according to an official spokesperson. As per the announcement, the new medical college would be set up at a cost of Rs 325 crore [1 crore = 10 million], of which Rs 195 crore, i.e. 60 per cent share, would be met by the Centre. The remaining 40 per cent to the tune of Rs 130 crore would be contributed by the Punjab gov-
ernment as the state’s share for the college. The upcoming medical college is the first-of-itskind in the Kandi region, with an intake capacity of 100 seats and would be instrumental in providing quality healthcare and diagnostic services, besides giving impetus to medical education and research in the region. Conceding a request from Amarinder Singh, the Centre has also cleared a proposal for upgrading the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, thereby enhancing its bed capacity from the existing 200 to 500, with the latest medical infrastructure facilities added to the hospital. Notably, there are three government medical colleges already functioning in the state, Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala. Relocate folk dancer statues lying close to Golden Temple: Chief Minister Chandigarh (IANS): Taking into account the sentiments of the Sikh community which had taken exception to the statues of folk dancers at the Heritage City in the vicinity of the Golden Temple, Punjab Chief Minis-
ter Amarinder Singh on Tuesday ordered the authorities to relocate them in Amritsar. The statues, installed during the previous SAD-BJP regime, had been vandalised by angry protestors on January 15.
Taking a lenient view of youngsters involved in the vandalism, the Chief Minister directed the Director General of Police to review and withdraw cases registered against them. The actions of the youth were
not malicious but a reflection of the pain felt by the Sikh community which felt hurt at the statues displaying ‘bhangra’ and ‘giddha’, being located close to the precincts of the holy gurdwara, he said.
The ‘bhangra’ and ‘giddha’ statues was installed and inaugurated by the previous SADBJP government in October 2016 on the pedestrian path of the heritage street. Following the January 15 in-
cident, various Sikh organisations, including the Akal Takht and the Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), had come out in support of the accused arrested by the police.

Last month, Punjab Police registered two FIRs against actress Raveena Tandon, director-choreographer Farah Khan and comedian Bharti Singh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a TV show. The second case was registered in Ferozepur cantonment. Earlier, a case was registered in Ajnala town in Amritsar district on the complaint of Sonu Jafar, head of the Christian Front. Jafar alleged that religious sentiments of Christians were hurt when the stars trivialised the word ‘Hallelujah’, while trying to pronounce it. Hallelujah is a Hebrew word and a simple translation of it is ‘Praise the Lord’.

custs in neighbouring areas of southern Punjab bordering Rajasthan, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to direct the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commission in Islamabad to immediately take up the issue with the government of Pakistan, from where the pests were emanating. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Amarinder Singh said there has been a sustained attack of locust swarms on crops in the Rajasthan recently. A significant number of these pests have also entered into the neighbouring areas of southern Punjab. “Although Rajasthan has been taking the required action to control this locust attack, the best method of control is to manage the breeding ground itself, which incidentally falls in the adjoining desert area of Pakistan,” he wrote. The Chief Minister thus emphasized the need to take up this issue directly with the government of Pakistan and press them to take effective steps to sanitize the breeding areas of these locusts. The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, which is mandated to control locusts internationally, may also be asked to take effective steps in Pakistan to control breeding to ensure that these do not develop into dangerous swarms which can cause havoc to crops, said the Chief Minister. At the national level, a coordinated locust control mechanism should be made effective by use of modern technology, helicopters and drones for spraying insecticides, etc. to control the spread of the pestilence, he added. The Chief Minister further suggested that the Ministry of Agriculture of the government of India should also coordinate with the FAO to ensure that the breeding grounds are sanitized and brought under control. Amarinder Singh warned that any failure to control these swarms could lead to serious implications and consequence for agricultural production in India, especially in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat, which will ultimately affect the commodity prices and food security of the country. On the directives of the Chief Minister, the Agriculture Department has already pressed into service several special monitoring and survey teams in the vulnerable parts of southern Punjab to keep a close tab on the situation around the clock. These teams have been constantly surveying the districts of Bathinda, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Fazilka in the vicinity of Rajasthan border. Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Viswajeet Khanna is also touring Abohar and the adjoining areas to assess the prevailing situation and evolve a multi-pronged strategy to combat any unforeseen exigency arising out of the locust swarms.

WHY “needless” deaths from this threatening virus? Because doctors, health authorities, hospital administrators and politicians have not read history. Not even the Chinese! This week several members of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service (OMNS) were asked, “How would you treat the coronavirus?” Here are opinions of experts who study the potential of nutrients to fight disease. Dr. Andrew W. Saul, an international expert on vitamin therapy, says, “The coronavirus can be dramatically slowed or stopped completely with the immediate widespread use of high doses of vitamin C. Bowel tolerance levels of C taken in divided doses throughout the day, is a clinically proven antiviral, without equal.” Saul adds, “Dr. Robert F. Cathcart, who had extensive experience treating viral diseases remarked, ‘I have not seen any flu yet that was not cured or markedly ameliorated by massive doses of vitamin.” Professor Victor Marcial-Vega of the Caribe School of Medicine responds, “Given the relatively high rate of success of intravenous vitamin C in viral diseases and my observation of clinical improvement within 2 to 3 hours of treatment, I strongly believe it would be my first recommendation in the management of the coronavirus.” He adds, “I have also used intravenous vitamin C to treat patients with influenza, dengue fever, and chikungunya, for 24 years.”
Dr. Jeffery Allyn Ruterbusch, Associate Professor at Central Michigan University says, “I believe all of us agree on the greatly increased benefits of vitamin C when people are placed under any stressful condition.” Dr. Damien Downing, former editor of the Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, writes “Swine flu, bird flu, and SARS, all developed in selenium-deficient China. When patients were given selenium, viral mutation rates dropped and immunity improved.” Several other authorities agreed that high doses of vitamin C, along with 3,000 IU of vitamin D, and 20 milligrams of zinc, was a good combination to help fight viral diseases. And Drs. Carolyn Dean, and Thomas Levy, both world authorities on magnesium, stressed that the mineral is involved in 1,000 metabolic reactions and that maintaining adequate levels improves immunity. Another over-riding opinion was that few people know that high doses of C increase immunity and destroy viral diseases. This information is not new. During the great polio epidemic of 1949-50 Dr. Frederick R. Klenner, a family physician in North Carolina, treated 60 polio patients with high doses of intravenous vitamin C. None developed paralysis. This discovery should have made headlines around the world but Dr. Klenner’s news fell on deaf ears. Later, Klenner proved that high doses of C could also be effective as treatments for meningitis, pneumonia, measles, hepatitis and other viral and bacterial diseases. Even the bite of a rattlesnake. Again only scorn from the medical profession. What does this mean to North Americans? Patients with a diagnosis of coronavirus should be given intravenous vitamin C, and it will save lives. The problem is that most doctors still refuse to believe IVC is effective. I’m not your doctor. But my family and friends know to visit a health food store and stock up on Medi C Plus, a powdered form of vitamin C that I developed which allows for high doses to be easily consumed and which contains needed lysine and magnesium. Vitamin C pills will do, but you must swallow many of them. Start taking 2000

The Gentlemen (PG) ****
Slippery Slope!
My, oh my how tangled a web we weave. Back in his element is acclaimed director Guy Ritchie ( The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) Fans of Ritchie’s earlier films like Snatch that made him a force to be reckoned with in the industry will be simply delighted as he revisits his old stomping grounds with a vengeance. Kudos to VVS Films and visionary acclaimed comedy producer Robert Simonds for green lighting this smart and savvy crime tale now entrancing audiences at Cineplex Cinemas and Landmark Theatres around B.C. Canadians and especially folks in British Columbia should easily be able to relate
to the plot behind The Gentlemen. Quite simply the men are not that gentle. Front and Centre in this madcap crime spree is an American crime lord operating out of England. Drugs are the stock and trade of Mickey Pearson who has managed to claw his way to the top. Charming as always is Mathew McConaughey ( Dallas Buyers Club) who is at his best as a scheming gangster. Staying at the top of anyone’s game is hard for the best of them. With huge profits at stake acquaintances can be deceiving. Out to skim some of the cream off the top is an up and coming Asian
mobster played up to the hilt by Henry Golding ( Crazy Rich Asians). Oh, and things are set in motion in hilarious motion by another hood on the make served up with lots of ham by Hugh Grant (Notting Hill) Throw in an Irish thug or two, divided loyalties, blue bloods out to maintain their position in society and various red herrings and The Gentlemen is just a damn good enjoyable movie Lots of references to Hollywood further ramp up the entertainment value in this wonderfully acted superbly crafted movie.

Both models will go on sale at Nissan dealerships in February, 2020. “We are thrilled to introduce Canadians to the all-new Sentra in Quebec at the next Montreal Auto Show,” said Steve Milette, president of Nissan Canada. “The 2020 Sentra represents an exhilarating breakthrough for Nissan’s popular compact sedan, and I’m convinced it will meet Quebecers’ needs, with its eye-catching new styling, a comprehensive suite of intelligent driving technologies including standard Nissan Safety Shield 360, advanced connectivity functions and confident performance provided by a new platform and a new engine.” Sentra is the best-selling Nissan model of all time in Canada, with more than 326,000 deliveries since 1990. Now in its eighth generation, the 2020 Sentra resembles its predecessors in name only. It has been completely transformed from a traditional compact sedan to a powerful presence that shares the muscular, sporty design elements of models like the Maxima and GT-R. It also features a new refined, more luxurious interior, setting new standards for quality and comfort. Sentra’s driving experience has also been completely revamped, thanks to a 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder engine rated at 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque—increases of 20 per cent and 16 per cent respectively over the previous generation’s 1.8-litre engine—and a new platform featuring an independent rear suspension and an upgraded,

Markham, ON: In a bold, new direction, Honda Canada is redefining the traditional approach to auto shows by creating an immersive and interactive experience that replaces static and conventional vehicle displays with an unforgettable tour of the brand’s core pillars. Dubbed “The Intersection,” attendees can explore the company’s interpretation of a modern cityscape, complete with conceptual sidewalks, trees, buildings and parks. Attendees can take part in engaging demonstrations and interactive elements that highlight Honda’s contributions to safety and mobility innovation, protecting the environment, Canada’s manufacturing sector and ongoing support of communities across the country. “Our brand is more than just cars, making us unique in the automotive world. This new concept models a city where visitors can immerse themselves in our story, see how we innovate, ask questions and better understand how we participate in the world around us,” says Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing with Honda Canada. “We know people attend auto shows to learn and experience something new, so we’re breaking the mold with a dynamic environment that exposes all aspects of Honda Canada in a fun and enter-
taining way.” The Intersection will be unveiled for the first time in Canada at the Montreal International Auto Show and elements will be adapted for other Canadian markets throughout the 2020 show season. Features in Montreal will include: • UNI-CUB demonstration: The UNICUB is a battery-powered mobility device that helps people enjoy the freedom of mobility in large spaces like airports. Experience the world’s first omni-directional driving wheel system through hands-on demos. • Crash Test Civic: See the results of a Honda Civic crash-test up close and learn about everything that makes Honda vehicles among the safest on the road today. • Robotic Arm Interactive Display: Robots work alongside Honda associates in our Canadian manufacturing facilities every day. Now, robots are coming to the Montreal International Auto Show. • Digital X-Ray Scrubber: Learn about Honda’s environmental engineering through a digital “X-Ray” view of the Honda Accord Hybrid and all the components that contribute to the hybrid’s hyper-efficiency. • Understanding CO2: An industry first – learn how Honda is labelling each of its vehicles on how much CO2 it emits, and the importance of the reduction of greenhouse gasses. • Honda Community Park: Take a stroll through a scenic park setting – complete with trees and grass – to learn how the Honda Canada Foundation gives back to communities and helps organizations like Make-AWish® Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.
