City of Calgary invites Indian investment New Delhi (IANS): The City of Calgary, Alberta, on Monday invited Indian business to invest in Canada’s third largest municipality, which has a substantial population of South Asians, towards contributing to the growing volume of bilateral trade between India and Canada. The call to Indian business to invest in Calgary was made by the city’s Indian-origin Mayor Naheed Nenshi at a roundtable here organized by industry chamber CII [Confederation of Indian Industry]. Nenshi is on a visit to India as the head of a Canadian business delegation. Pointing out that Calgary’s strengths include the energy, financial technology (fintech) and “creative industry” sectors, the Mayor said that with Canada having a trade deficit with India, his mission is help to Indian companies locate in Calgary which has the expertise to help
Indian firms grow their business. “In a world increasingly defined by closure, we are defiantly open to the best talent in the world. The H-1B visa (US) has become almost impossible to get, whereas the same kind of visa can be got for Canada in 10 days,” Nenshi said. Noting that the Economist has
New Delhi (IANS): The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the AIIMS to conduct a complete medical examination of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, after he complained of continuous weight loss during incarceration, and submit a report within a week. Kumar, a convict in the 1984 antiSikh riots, is currently undergoing a life sentence. A bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and Surya Kant, said Kumar should be produced before the AIIMS hospital board, which will conduct a complete examination and then take a decision, if his hospitalisation is required or not. Senior advocate Vikas Singh, representing Sajjan Kumar, cited his client’s deteriorating health and sought immediate interim bail, as
he is an old man and vulnerable to major health issues. The apex court declined to give any immediate relief and slated the matter for next hearing without giving any date. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that Sajjan Kumar was due for a medical examination at AIIMS as per the December 2019 report of the premier medical institute. The court noted that there is a certificate by Dr Randhir Sud, Chairman, Institute of Digestive and Hepatobiliary Sciences, Medanta-The Medicity, stating Sajjan Kumar needs to be examined in order to rule out major illnesses. Senior advocate Dushyant Dave, representing one of the riot victims, opposed the interim bail stating that prisoners with severe illness or

ranked Calgary as the western hemisphere’s best city to live in, he said that Calgary is looking to intensify trade relations at the state level in India. His delegation is also scheduled to visit Mumbai and Bengaluru. “Calgary wants to be the destination of choice for the best innovators and entrepreneurs in order to solve the hardest problems like the climate change issue, as well as the most difficult one of how different peoples can live together… to build a community in these dark and divided times,” the Mayor said. “When you ask how all this is linked to business, the question for us is how to be able to succeed both socially and economically,” he said, adding that “the South Asian community has been in Calgary since the beginning.” More than 25 per cent of Calgary’s population belongs
to a visible minority group, of whom South Asians comprise 7.5 per cent, followed by the Chinese (6.8 per cent) and Filipinos (4.4 per cent). A delegation member, Calgary Economic Development Commissioner of Film and Creative Industries Luke Azevedo, said that they were looking to expand cooperation with the Mumbai film industry as well as with regional cinema, particularly from south India. A CII statement said that IndiaCanada trade has been steadily increasing over the last two decades, and in 2018, imports from India were the “Canadian market’s fastestgrowing (non-US) source at a 30 per cent increase from the previous year”. Bilateral trade in 2017-18 was worth $7.23 billion. The number of Indians studying in Canada has also grown phenomenally to around 200,000 students.
Supreme Court directs Sajjan Kumar be checked by AIIMS medical board
Sajjan Kumar health issues are receiving proper medical treatment within the jail, and the top court should not allow the system to work for the accused. “Over 660 innocent people were slaughtered in his constituency... this will not send the right message. Therefore, he shouldn’t be given any
special treatment like being admitted to a private hospital … this will hurt the community,” Dave contended before the court. Kumar, who is 74 years old, in his bail application claimed he has lost nearly 10 kg while serving his term in the jail. His lawyer told the top court told there is a medical certificate by a private doctor, therefore he should be examined completely to rule out any major health issue. Earlier, this month the top court declined to entertain Sajjan Kumar’s plea seeking interim bail, and it had posted the matter for further hearing after Holi break. Sajjan Kumar is the key accused in the killing of five members of a family in Raj Nagar in Raj Nagar area in 1984. He was convicted on December 17, 2018, by a Delhi court and sentenced to a life term.

How Smriti Irani saved the Lok Sabha from disgrace on Monday New Delhi (IANS): As a showdown between the Congress and the BJP in the Lok Sabha over Delhi riots snowballed into a major scuffle with their members almost coming to blows, timely intervention by Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani saved the Parliament from disgrace on the first day of the Budget session’s second leg. A visibly perturbed Speaker Om Birla had to finally appeal that “all efforts
should be made to maintain the dignity of the House”. He also expressed his “personal pain” over the ruckus created in the House amid repeated adjournments throughout the day. Demanding resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Congress-led opposition had a heated argument with treasury benches. Even after the house was adjourned, members stayed in the chamber and continued heckling each other.
YOUR FRIENDLY
It all started when Congress members Gaurav Gogoi and Gurjit Singh Aujla tried to raise a banner in front of BJP’s Sanjay Jaiswal to prevent him from speaking, and then, a few BJP members including Ramesh Bidhuri tried to snatch away the banner from Gogoi. Some more MPs from both sides joined the tussle. As the situation came close to blows being exchanged, Irani swiftly moved from her seat and stood between the opposing sides. She NEIGHBOURHOOD was joined by Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and the two senior BJP leaders tried to pacify both sides. Smriti Irani seat and began pacifying party members. The House was reconvened at 4 p.m. However, this time, the female members of Congress and BJP got engaged in a scuffle. Congress member from Kerala and party’s Dalit face Ramya Haridas, who was displaying a banner before the Speaker’s podium, was stopped from approaching towards the treasury benches. Ramya later told IANS she was physically assaulted by BJP MP Jaskaur Meena. As women members from both sides got enraged and the scene turned a
bit ugly, Irani again rushed from her seat to intervene and with folded hands, requested both Congress and BJP members to calm down and return to their seats. Parliament Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi also tried to placate all the members. The House was again adjourned for half an hour. According to a BSP member, absence of senior leaders like Nitin Gadkari, Ram Vilas Paswan or Rajnath Singh on the treasury benches and Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on opposition side led to the chaos. “But still I would say, Smriti ji saved the House today from disgrace. Seeing the rising tempers of several members, anything could have happened ..but she managed the situation,” the member added. At 4.30 p.m., the Speaker requested the house to maintain dignity. He also said that after taking note of the ruckus and subsequent adjournments, the House cannot be run and adjourned it for the day.
Cabinet clears 100% FDI by NRIs in Air India to push privatization New Delhi (IANS): Clearing any possible hurdle in privatisation of Air India, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved 100 per cent FDI in the sale-bound airline by Non-Resident Indians. The investment would be allowed through the automatic route. The prospective suitors for the national carrier include the Tatas and Londonbased NRI business family, the Hindujas. The government on January 27 invited expression of interest (EoI) from prospective buyers of Air India and two of its subsidiaries. Along with Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express, the flag carrier’s 50 per cent stake in ground-handling arm AISATS has also been put on the block. The last date for submitting the EoI is March 17. The government will make public the names of short-listed bidders in the first round of bidding by March 31. In its second attempt to sell Air India lock, stock and barrel, the Narendra Modi government has sweetened the deal by substantially reducing the
debt on the books of the airline and offering complete 100 per cent stake in the loss-making airline. As per preliminary information memorandum (PIM) inviting the EoI, Air India is one of the most extensive flight service providers in India with network coverage of 98 destinations - 56 domestic destinations with around 2,712 departures per week and 42 international destinations with around 450 departures per week. The airline offers 75 additional destinations through its secondary network of code share operations covered under 25 code share agreements with foreign carriers. During FY 2019, Air India carried around 22.1 million passengers and recorded operational revenues of Rs 25,508 crore. While the government has shown its determination to exit Air India this time, many opposition parties have opposed the decision. One of the ruling BJP’s key members Subramanian Swamy has also objected to the plan and has warned the government against the move.

Such politics will not only harm the school but also harm the future of the country as a school. Chaudhary said after the tour of northeast Delhi that the violence has hurt people’s faith. New ink to curb fake passports, counterfeit currency: Government New Delhi (IANS): Union Minister Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said that a new security ink has been developed to weed out fake passports and counterfeit currency. The formulation can be used to
check the authenticity of various official documents such as passports, government documents, tamper evident labels and identity cards. In a written reply to a question in
the Rajya Sabha, the minister said, “The CSIR-National Physical Laboratory has developed a bi-luminescent security ink which glows in red and green colours when illuminated by two different exci-
tation sources at 254 nanometers (nm) and 365 nm, respectively. He also informed the Upper House that the ink was prepared in a batch of 1 kg and given to the Bank Note Press (BNP), Dewas,

Seven wanted Punjab criminals nabbed after 1,500 km chase Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Police have arrested seven accused, including three most wanted gangsters, in a spate of heinous crimes after an over two-month long, 1,500km chase spread over four states, the state police chief said on Monday. Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta said the most wanted trio were arrested from Sojat in Rajasthan’s Pali district after a tip-off from
the local police. The trio -- Harman Bhullar, Balraj Singh and Harwinder Sandhu, members of a gang led by US-based Pavittar Singh -- had been changing their locations and creating various fake identities while being on the run across Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The gang was involved in cases of extortion, attempt to murder, murder, rioting, etc., he said. While
Bhullar was allegedly involved in eight criminal cases, Balraj Singh was wanted in 10 and Sandhu in three cases. Coming close on the heels of the arrest of another noted gangster Buddha from Armenia, these arrests showed a large number of gangsters-criminals had moved out of Punjab, the DGP added. The chase of criminals, which started from Amritsar on January 28, culminated
on March 1 as a result of the perfect inter-state coordination and cooperation of the four states, he said. Finally, after one of the longest chases covering a distance of over 1,500 km, they were arrested with the help of Rajasthan Police. The breakthrough regarding their movement came when Ranbir Singh was admitted to the PGI in Chandigarh on February 23 after having accidentally shooting himself with a country-made weapon.
The subsequent investigations led to revelation of the weapon being provided by Bhullar and his associates through Harry Bajwa of Chandigarh. Bajwa, who provided a house to the accused in Chandigarh where they stayed two months, has also been arrested. The arrest of the three criminals further led to arrest of two of their associates -- Gurpreet Singh and Gurwinder Singh -- from Uttarakhand.
COVID-19: Punjab sets up flu corners in all hospitals Chandigarh (IANS): Amid the growing scare over coronavirus (COVID-19), the Punjab government on Monday announced emergency measures, including setting up of flu corners in all government and private hospitals, to prepare for any exigency arising from the epidemic. The flu corners will screen all suspected cases of respiratory tract infections at the earliest and ensure that movement of such cases is restricted in order to prevent the spread of the disease. The Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, took stock of the situation triggered by the global epidemic, even as one confirmed case each of the disease was reported from Delhi and Telangana.
The Cabinet approved the Punjab Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 under the ambit of section 2, 3 and 4 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 to combat the menace of COVID-19 (Corona Virus Diseases 2019), an official spokesperson told IANS after the meeting. A notification to this effect will be issued soon, he added. No private laboratory has been authorised to take or test sample of coronavirus in the state, as per the notification approved by the Cabinet. Further, no person or institution or organisation will use any print or media in any form for giving information COVID-19 without prior permission of the Department of Health and Family Welfare. As per the Cabinet decision, all the hospitals in the state are being directed to take a suspected patient’s history of travel to any country or area from where spread of disease is being reported, and also history of coming in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, from case of respiratory tract infections or case presenting with symptoms similar to coronavirus. If there is any history of travel or history of contact with a case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days of development of symptoms, the person has to be kept in hospital isolation and the Department of Health has to be informed immediately by that doctor or hospital.
“A data logger report clearly showed that the (crossing) gate was in closed position before the train passed it... The traffic was restored at 9.13 p.m.,” the railways said. The deceased have been identified as Gurdeep Kaur, 26, and Ratanjit Singh, 62. The injured -- Sunny, Arjun, and Lal ji are being treated at the civil hospital. This Sunday, Punjab roads to be taken over by women Public Spaces, her department has decided that International Women’s Day should be celebrated in a novel way. She said that from 7 p.m. on March 7 till 1 a.m. on March 8, at least 6 km stretch of an arterial road in all district headquarters and major towns would be reserved only for women of all age groups. The minister said the activities on the road will include walking, running, cycling, dancing for a cause, flash dances, human chains and signature scroll, among others, to highlight the need for a gender-sensitive world in which no girl or woman suffers abuse or assault of any kind.
Victim of 2012 US gurdwara shooting dies after 8 years Washington (IANS): Baba Punjab Singh, an elderly man who was injured and paralysed following a shooting at a gurdwara in the US state of Wisconsin in 2012, has died almost eight years after the incident which left him bed ridden, a media report said. On August 5, 2012, in one of the worst attacks on the Sikh community in America, a gunman with neo-Nazi ties barged into the gurdwara in Oak Creek, and opened fire killing six Sikh worshippers and injuring several others, said the American Bazaar report. In the tragedy, Singh was shot and received severe injuries that left him paralysed. He passed away on Monday after spending seven and a half years of his life bed-ridden, communicating with others with a “yes” or “no” by blinking his eyes.
Speaking for the family his son, Raghuvinder Singh said: “It is with sadness, but also peace and acceptance, that we confirm the passing of my father, Baba Punjab Singh. “Baba spent his life serving as a Sikh religious teacher who travelled the country and the world delivering ‘kathas’ - orations that share the lessons and history of the Sikh faith. “My father’s injuries and his passing, along with the other lives lost that day, are a reminder of the toxic hate that still plagues our country.” The shooter committed suicide following the attack which received widespread condemnation. A few days after the shooting, then-First Lady Michelle Obama had visited the gurdwara.
Controversial singer appears before Akal Takht to apologize Amritsar (IANS): Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh, alias Sidhu Moose Wala, on Thursday appeared before the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, here and sought an apology for his song that created controversy and backlash ffrom the Sikhs for mentioning woman warrior Mai Bhago. Moose Wala and his father appeared before Akal Takht chief Giani Harpreet Singh and apologized. Earlier, the singer apologized in a letter to the Akal Takht head, where he said he was unaware that his act would hurt the Sikh
sentiments. “I am humble servant of the Guru and fully believe in Akal Takht sahib. I tender an apology and assure that I will not repeat such mistake again,” he had said in his letter in September last year. “After returning from my foreign tour in November, I will appear before the Takht along with my family.” Last month, Sidhu Moose Wala and singer Mankirat Aulakh were booked for allegedly promoting gun culture and violence through a song titled ‘panj golian’ (five bullets).
Besides, vibrant food stalls and showcasing women’s enterprises along the well lit=-up roads will be among the events lined up for the day. “If some women start using the streets after dark for work, leisure, recreation or fitness, more and more women will be encouraged to come out and reclaim those public spaces that were hitherto closed to them, despite their being equal citizens,” Chaudhary said, adding, “if such activities are held regularly, a culture of safe and bustling
streets will be ushered in.” She also said that all the district officials have been asked to ensure maximum participation of women and girls, including students, employees of private establishments, staff of call centres, doctors, engineers, teachers and role models. The minister said on that day, the men could join only at both ends of the road. They will take a pledge to be gender-sensitive and work in tandem with women to make the world a better and safer place.

Punjab examining Sukhna Lake order, says Amarinder Singh Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said he has asked Advocate General Atul Nanda to examine in detail the high court order with respect to constructions in the catch-
ment of eco-sensitive Sukhna Lake here. In an informal interaction with the media here, the Chief Minister said his government had received a copy of the judgment and the Advocate
General would examine the order and make his recommendations. The state government, said Amarinder Singh, would take whatever decisions, legislative or judicial, needed to resolve the issue.
“We stand by the people and will do everything to protect their interests,” he said, in response to a question. Recognizing the Sukhna Lake as a legal entity, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday ordered de-
molition of all unauthorized structures in the catchment area around it within three months, while imposing a fine of Rs 100 crore [Rs 1,000 million] on both Punjab and Haryana.
White Paper on power agreements ready: Punjab Chief Minister Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday announced while the draft White Paper on power pur-
chase agreements (PPAs) signed by the previous government was ready, more work was needed on it before tabling it in the House.

Intervening during the debate on the Budget in the Assembly, the Chief Minister, while waving the draft document, said his government was committed to ensuring more affordable power to domestic consumers while continuing with the subsidies for farmers and industry. The existing PPAs needed to be thrashed out in detail for this purpose, he added.
The Chief Minister had in January announced his government’s intention to bring out a White Paper to expose the alleged fraud committed by the Akalis in signing the PPAs with private players during their regime. The PPAs, he had said, would reveal all documents signed by the previous SAD-BJP regime on PPAs, as well as the power plants set up by them, causing undue burden on the state.
New mining policy on the anvil Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said his government is committed to check monopoly and undue profiteering in transport business, and announced in the assembly that a new mining policy would end the mining mafia. The Chief Minister also announced 50 per cent concession on bus fare to the women travelling in government-run buses. Also, 5,000 new mini bus route permits in the next two years to will be given to unemployed youth. Another 2,000 route permits would be provided for regular 52-seater stage carriage buses. On the issue of the transport policy, the Chief Minister said the matter was subjudice but necessary action would be taken as per the directions of the court as and when the issue was settled. The Chief Minister assured the House that any transport
permits found illegal would be cancelled, disclosing that they had already issued 142 show-cause notices, which were being examined as per law. The transport department was in the process of issuing 15-day show-cause notices for the remaining 212 permits as well, said the Chief Minister, promising total transparency in issuance of permits, along with all possible steps to break the monopoly in the transport sector. Referring to his government’s decision to lower the age of retirement by ending the process of optional extension, Amarinder Singh said all vacancies that will be created as a result of the move would be filled in two years. Amarinder Singh announced his government’s decision to deepen the ambulances network through 108. The number of ambulances will be increased from the
existing 242 to 400 in two years, enabling 24x7 access to ambulance services for every cluster of 30-35 villages. To strengthen the health delivery network, the Chief Minister said all doctors in government hospitals should double up both administrative and clinical work. Earlier, first-time Congress legislator Amrinder Singh Raja Warring slammed his own government over its failure to tighten its noose against liquor and sand mafia in the state. Speaking during the discussion on the budget proposals for 2020-21, Warring said in three years since the government assumed power, there was no new transport policy to end the mafia. “We should not delay it, or we will have to face the consequences. Kindly fulfil your commitment of giving 5,000 licences to young people to run their buses,” he said.

Kajol: Give me three scenes, I can create a magic Mumbai, March 5 (IANS) She ruled hearts with her celebrated roles in “Baazigar”, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...”, “My Name Is Khan” among several others. From being the Bollywood heroine who broke all stereotypes of image to become a superstar, Kajol also marks a huge change in her digital debut with the short film “Devi”, where she shares screen space with nine other actresses. She says she is at a point in her career where impact of the character matters more than length of the role. In a three-decade mainstream career in Bollywood, she has proved herself as an actor and
a star time and again. What does she look for in a script now? “The magic,” she replied. “Give me three scenes and I can create magic. I do not need a title role where all I have is the title, a poster and, in the whole film, I am furniture. If you look at my career and choice of roles, I have always done something where the character has an emotional graph, something substantial. I want to create a memory in the mind of the audience through the characters I portray. That is precisely the reason I keep saying that I have to like the script. If the character I am offered is not impacting me how will it impact the audience? So, if you think I am choosy, I would say,
I am living the life of an artist that I have earned through years of hard work,” Kajol added, while speaking to IANS. Starting her career in 1992 with “Bekhudi”, Kajol has bagged numerous popular awards and also proved her versatility with a variety of roles. She was equally impressive as the murdered Isha Diwan in the whodunit “Gupt” and the tomboyturned-glam girl in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”. She excelled as the mother who lost her only child in religious hatred in “My Name Is Khan”, and she exuded effortless ease playing twin siblings of diametrically opposite nature in “Dushman”. Indeed, there is hardly any experimentation that she is scared to try out. Does success gave her confidence to do so? “Success surely gives you confidence, and financial independence also gives you the courage to live life on your own terms. But I have to mention that my idea of success is not just about earning fame and money. I know people who are successful by the definition of society but they are turning out to become people who suffocate in their own image. For me, I have to become the person I like in the first place. After a point, fame and money become inconsequential,” replied the actress. She added: “I feel I am successful not because of the fame and money but because of the indi-
vidual I have become. The family I have, my kids, my husband, my choice of films -– success is a combination of everything to me.” Asked about if her criteria of choosing a film have changed, Kajol replied: “My choices of films are the reflection of what I believe in. That is how I can be honest with my choices as a performing artist. I know there are some mitigating circumstances under which one has to do a film. Having said that, I am practising my choice because I am not working just to earn money. I rather earned this luxury through my body of work in the nineties. I am fortunate to have that financial freedom that many artists do not have, so I might as well utilise it to be a part of narratives that are thought-provoking.”
Kartik Aaryan looks forward to performing on home turf at IIFA awards Mumbai (IANS): Actor Kartik Aaryan is excited because he will get to perform live on home turf soon. The actor, who hails from Gwalior, says he looks forward to performing at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), which will be held in an Indian city for the second time in a row, when the 21st edition is hosted in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. “This is the first time it’s happening in Indore. Earlier, they (people of Indore) didn’t have the access (to stars), but this year such a nice line-up is arriving to perform, so all of us are excited. I am excited because it is taking place in my home state. I look forward to it. Right now, I am injured but I am dying to perform there,” said Kartik at a press conference of the event that he attended with Katrina Kaif. Did Katrina, who is known for her cool moves, give tips to Kartik on dancing? “He already
performed when IIFA was held in Bangkok, so it will not be his first performance. I think he is fantastic on stage,” Katrina replied. Apart from Kartik and Katrina, celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez will perform on the awards night, which will be hosted by Salman Khan and Ritiesh Deshmukh. While a pre-event will be held in Bhopal on March 21, the actual three-day event will take place in Indore from March 27 to 29.

When SRK, Virat Kohli influenced ‘MC Sher’ Siddhant Chatuvedi Mumbai (IANS): Actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, who has been signed up as brand ambassador of a men’s grooming range, feels celebrity faces truly influence consumers to buy products. Being a fanboy of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, Siddhant says he also did the same in his years of growing up. “Being a Shah Rukh Khan fan, as a kid, I would go for anything that SRK endorsed. If I saw an ad on TV, I would ask if I could get that (product),” Siddhant told IANS. On Virat, he added: “Being a huge cricket fan, I felt anything that Virat does, I have to do!”
Now that the actor has become the face of a men’s grooming brand, the subject of his signature style naturally came up. “I believe in finding my own comfort. Those days when everyone found growing beard cool, I wasn’t doing it only because everyone was doing it. I grew a stubble. Holding on to my signature style that defines my personality is important to me rather than following a trend. I am an actor. So, most of the time I am portraying someone on-screen who I am not. If I have to be someone else off camera too, where will I show the real me?” he chuckled with a wink. Is grooming as important for men as
women? “It is important to be wellgroomed, especially when you are going out for a date, a professional meeting or attending an occasion. Personally, I am lazy by nature to groom myself every day, but I am an actor and I am in showbiz. That is why I prepare myself to get used to the practice of being presentable at all times,” he replied. Being signed up to sell products, they say, is the first sign that you’ve arrived as a star. Siddhant is clearly excited selling the grooming range, Ustraa. “Who would have thought that one day I would become the face of a brand!” he gushed.
Sara Ali Khan: I don’t look at myself as a star Mumbai (IANS): Actress Sara Ali Khan doesnt think she grew up in a family of stars, and says she doesnt considers herself as a star. “My parents are actors, but I don’t think I have been grown up in the family of stars. Father, for instance, has always been very particular about education and my mother is the flagbearer of humility. She so believes putting your head down and letting your work speak for yourself,” Sara said. “I never had much exposure to Bolly-
wood. I don’t really think I come from a family of stars. I don’t look at myself as a star,” added the daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. Looking back at her growing up years, she said: “I was a mischievous student in school who played pranks on everyone. One of the pranks I remember was dropping glue on the fan blades which spilled all over the class when switched on. I almost got suspended for this because my principal kept asking why I did this, and I
had no answer to it.” Asked about her equation with wife of Saif and actress Kareena Kapoor, Sara replied: “I admire Kareena Kapoor and her work. She’s a professional who always gives preference to work. Her style of working is something I would want to imbibe from her.” Sara opened up about her life in an episode of “Starry Nights Gen Y”, which will premiere in India on Zee Cafe on March 8.
There are some people who still look for Sridevi in me: Janhvi Kapoor Be it with her mother, late actor Sridevi, or her own contemporaries such as Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday, actor Janhvi Kapoor, it seems, has become used to constant comparisons. But it’s clearly not something she enjoys. Though she calls competition a “by-product of the acting profession”, when it comes to her mother, the 22-year-old insists that she is “not only a different person but a different type of an actor, too”.
In a candid chat, the Dhadak (2018) actor talks about her take on nepotism, competition in the industry, and how she hopes that her upcoming films — Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Roohi Afzana, Dostana 2 and Takht — will silence all naysayers. Excerpts: Nepotism debate was at its peak when you made your debut. Do you think it’s time that people shut up? Hopefully, my work will do that.
I know for some, Dhadak wasn’t reason enough to end the debate. I don’t deny nepotism does exist. It’s a reality in our industry, and every other profession. The doctor that I visit, his son is also a doctor but no one is holding a morcha outside their clinic that ‘Nahin yeh toh nepotism hai, main nahin aane wala yahan ilaaj ke liye’. I understand there’s a sense of alienation and a bit of judgment.

CRIME OF THE WEEK Unsolved Crime:
Shooting
Title : Shooting death of Ravinder Sandhu Location : 6339 200 Street.
GROUP
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is calling on the public to help further its investigation into a fatal shooting in Langley, B.C. On February 7, 2020 at around 9:30 p.m., the Langley RCMP responded to reports of shots fired at the parking lot of the Langley Crossing Shopping Center at 6339 200 Street. Ravinder Singh Sandhu, 42-years-old, was found shot inside his vehicle by first responders. He was transported to hospital where he remained in critical condition until just recently, when he died of his injuries. IHIT has conduct of the investigation and is working closely with the Langley RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence. Investigators are looking to speak with any witnesses who have yet to come forward and requesting dash cam video from anyone who was travelling in and around the area, before and after the shooting. “Mr. Sandhu was known to police and his murder is believed to be a targeted incident. We share the community’s concern over this shooting in a public place that left one man dead and placed other lives at risk, says Sergeant Frank Jang of IHIT. We also share the community’s fervor to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice and call on anyone who can help us do so to come forward.” “It is unfortunate that a second brazen homicide has occurred here in Langley. The level of risk to the community is unacceptable and it is extremely concerning for me, as it must be for Langley residents, that this happened again outside a busy restaurant with young kids nearby, says Superintendent Murray Power, Officer-in-Charge of Langley Detachment. Members of the Langley Detachment work collectively with our partners across the region to mitigate violent crime and ensure all intelligence is shared. If anyone has information about this murder, I would urge them to call IHIT investigators. We cannot be complacent.”

SeeIng is believing. Maybe yes, maybe no. That’s the dilemma facing a mixed up/messed up woman in The Invisible Man. How fitting it is for the king of horror and suspense, Universal Studios, to unleash this trendy new version of their timeless classic now truly enthralling audiences at Cineplex Cinemas and Landmark Theatres across B.C. Rare is it that a low budget film with a largely unknown cast can deliver the goods. Look for this dangerdriven romp to be perhaps the sleeper hit of the year and in the Get Out vein. Now you see him, now you don’t . That’s what damsel in distress Cecilia Kass alleges when her estranged lover, Adrian Griffin, apparently can’t leave her alone - in a not so nice way. Victims of unwanted attention and more ominous behavior will undoubtedly be able to relate to the plight of Elisabeth Moss who runs the full gamut of emotions as her life
is turned truly upside down by the machinations of a high tech control freak played with intensity by Oliver Jackson-Cohen. Those cries for help go unnoticed as drip by drip her sanity is put to the ultimate test.

The A-Spec package requires the Technology package, and then adds exterior and interior styling variations, including 20-in wheels, LED fog lights, heated and ventilated front seats and a 16-speaker Panasonic/ELS Studio audio system. We tested the premium A-SPEC Edition that added 20-inch Shark Grey alloy wheels, an aggressive new front fascia, body-color lower sills, largerdiameter bright exhaust finishers, as well as gloss-black and dark chrome decoration for the headlights, grille, window surround and rear tailgate spoiler. Interior enhancements included fabulous looking red simuleather sports seats with perforated black Alcantara inserts, high-contrast red stitching, unique red finished ASpec gauges, sport pedals, carbonlook console trim, a thicker-rimmed A-Spec-badged steering wheel with paddle shifters and an exclusive ASpec door step garnish. The new RDX is unequalled in its passenger and cargo space. The back seats are raised, and offer proper legroom and they fold completely flat for extra versatility. Every RDX comes standard with eight airbags (front, front-side, sidecurtain, and front-knee), stability and traction control, a backup camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lanedeparture warning and lane-keeping assist. Blind spot monitoring and
rear cross-traffic alert are included with the Technology package. On the road, there are four drive modes with the Sport+ mode the most entertaining. Comfort is for more relaxing drive, Sport for added thrills and Snow, mode for slippery surfaces. Like other all-wheel drive (AWD) systems, SH-AWD transfer’s power from the front axle to the rear to increase traction as needed, and can also vary the power on the left and right rear wheels to boost cornering ability on dry ground and traction on wet ground. In slippery road conditions we encountered the SHAWD made a huge difference. Fuel economy is rated at 11.0 / 8.6 / 9.9 L/100 km city/highway/combined. Not much to complain about - the new touchpad interface has bit of learning curve But that’s about it. The RDX is firmly in entry-level Mercedes and BMW territory with is level of engineering, cabin and performance. Highly recommended. 2020 Acura RDX priced from: $43,990. - $54,990. New 2020 Jeep® Gladiator Mojave —Ultimate High-performance Off-road Midsize Pickup Windsor, Ontario: The Jeep® brand is breaking new ground with the Gladiator Mojave, the first Jeep vehicle to carry the brand’s newly minted Desert Rated badge. Jeep Desert Rated vehicles represent the ultimate in high-speed offroad capability and performance while traversing grueling desert and sand environments. “4x4 capability has always been the foremost pillar of the Jeep brand and the new Gladiator Mojave is a natural extension of our legendary Trail Rated 4x4 capability leadership,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA North America. Jeep Gladiator Mojave models represent the ultimate in high-speed off-road capability and performance in sand environments, courtesy of the brand’s renowned 4x4 system with significant suspension upgrades and
extensive testing over harsh sand and desert terrain for vehicle durability and protection. Gladiator Mojave models feature new, specially-tuned FOX™ 64-mm (2.5-inch) internal bypass shocks with external reservoirs, industryexclusive FOX front hydraulic jounce bumpers, a reinforced frame, a 25-mm (1-inch) front suspension lift with a silver front skid plate, stronger axles with cast-iron steering knuckles, aggressive front seats with integrated upper bolsters and standard 33-inch Falken Wildpeak All-Terrain tires. All of these standard features enable the Gladiator Mojave to become the Jeep brand’s first Desert Rated vehicle. A new level of capability is Gladiator’s proven CommandTrac 4x4 system, which features a two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio
and heavy-duty third-generation Dana 44 front and rear axles with a 4.10:1 axle ratio and standard electronic-locking rear differential. The Jeep Command-Trac 4x4 system is used to provide higher 4LO (low range) operating speeds for climbing sand dunes and other challenging desert events. The Jeep Gladiator Mojave’s 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 engine delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque and features engine stopstart (ESS) technology as standard equipment... A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 and an eightspeed automatic transmission is optional. With the standard sixspeed manual transmission, Gladiator Mojave boasts an impressive crawl ratio of 57.3:1, and 52.6:1 on Mojave models equipped with the optional eight-speed automatic
transmission – both of which make cresting a dune or scaling any obstacle on the trail easy. An available forward-facing offroad camera allows obstructions in the desert to be easily seen as
well (previously a Gladiator Rubicon-exclusive option). Gladiator Mojave models will arrive in Jeep showrooms in the second quarter of 2020.
