Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan last weekend posted dazzling photos of Kartarpur Gurdwara on Twitter with the message: “I want to congratulate our govt for readying Kartarpur, in record time, for Guru Nanak jee’s 550th birthday celebrations.”
Indian Prime Minister Modi to flag off first ‘jatha’ visiting Kartarpur on Saturday New Delhi (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first ‘jatha’ (group of devotees) visiting Kartarpur Sahib from Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur after inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor on Saturday. There will be a total of 550 devotees in the first ‘jatha’ visiting Kartarpur Sahib in which former Prime Minister Manmohan will also participate, said officials in the Home Ministry. Modi will inaugurate the Corridor and the Passenger Terminal Building. He will also address a public gathering at Dera Baba Nanak, around 3 km from the Corridor. Earlier, India and Pakistan signed an agreement to operationalise the historic Kartarpur Corridor to allow Indian Sikh pilgrims a visa-free visit to the holy Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. However, the ticklish issue of a $20 service fee
imposed by Islamabad remained unresolved. India signed the deal in the interest of the pilgrims and timely operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor before the 550th Parkash Purab. Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, saying “with opening of Kartarpur Sahib corridor, when we are marking Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Parkash Purab, PM @ narendramodi has realised the long-cherished dream of millions. On 9th, let’s witness history being created as PM@narendramodi dedicates this corridor to the nation.” He said Kartarpur Sahib Corridor is a historic achievement that generations of devotees will remember. “It will find special mention in the annals of history. It reflects Modi government’s commitment towards preserving our rich heritage & universalising
the teachings of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji.” India on Wednesday voiced concerns over the presence of three Sikh separatist leaders, including Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, in an official promotional video of the corridor released by Pakistan and has raised the matter with Islamabad. The video shows posters by Sikhs for Justice group featuring photographs of ProKhalistan leader Bhindranwale and his military adviser Shabeg Singh, who were killed during Operation Blue Star in 1984. Sikhs for Justice is a banned outfit, which is pushing for Sikh Referendum 2020. The video was released on Monday, ahead of the November 9 inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor, which will connect the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab with the Kartarpur shrine in Pakistan, where Guru Nanak Dev spent his final days.
“India has raised with Pakistan the presence of anti-India, objectionable elements in the video, and asked for removal of the visual,” Indian government sources said on Wednesday. In fact, India is worried that Sikh separatists should not misuse the corridor to leverage their 2020 separatist agenda, sources said. India will be watching “very, very closely” the Kartarpur Corridor inauguration and the next few days’ developments. India has from time to time voiced its concerns to Pakistan over the activities of anti-India Sikh separatists, including that of Gopal Singh Chawla, and Islamabad has acted on those matters, including removing Chawla from Pakistan’s gurdwara board a few months ago, the sources said. “We have to see if Pakistan continues to keep our concerns in mind,” the sources added.

Current situation in Kashmir not good and not sustainable, says Angela Merkel New Delhi: The German Chancellor’s comments came after New Delhi and Berlin agreed to work on bilateral and multilateral platforms to counter terrorism and extremism. German Chancellor Angela Merkel on November 1 expressed concern for the people of Kashmir and said that the lockdown of the region cannot be supported for long. The German leader’s comments came hours after India and Germany agreed to work on bilateral and multilateral platforms to counter terrorism and extremism. “The situation now for the people (in Kashmir) is not good and not sustainable. This has to be improved for sure,” said Ms. Merkel to a group of German journal-
a wide range of issues including agriculture, education, marine science and heritage conservation. “We will intensify bilateral and multilateral cooperation to deal with threats like terrorism and extremism. We are grateful to Germany for its strong support to India’s membership in export control regimes and various
ists who travelled to Delhi for the visit. Officials said developments in Kashmir were not part of the bilateral delegation-level talks held at Hyderabad House, but that Ms. Merkel expected to hear from Prime Min-
ister Narendra Modi on the government’s road map for J&K during her formal dinner on November 1 night. The German leader who is on a three-day visit sealed 17 MoUs and five Joint Declarations of Intent covering
Former Indian Army officer ‘based in Canada’ arrested for allegedly spying New Delhi (IANS): A former Indian Army officer, who is now based in Canada, has been arrested on suspicion of spying for foreign agencies, police said on Saturday. The man was taken into custody on Friday night. Confirming his arrest, Delhi Cantonment Police Station House Officer Inspector Sameer Srivastava told IANS: “It is difficult to say much right now. The suspect is being questioned by several agencies. Nothing concrete has come out as yet.” Highly placed Delhi Police sources told IANS, “The Intelligence agencies and the Indian Army have also been alerted on the case. The Delhi Police is planning a joint probe with them into the case.” [According to another news agency, ANI, retired Indian Army officer Mukesh Chopra, 64, was arrested in an alleged case
of theft, police sources told the agency on Saturday. He was reportedly jointly questioned by the Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence and Delhi Police’s Special Cell after some objectionable materials, military-related cards, etc., were recovered from his possession. But there was no mention of Canada in the news report.] [Another news outlet, India Today, reported that police said “Mukesh Arora” entered the Manekshaw library saying he was a colonel. When he was leaving after allegedly stealing eight books, Army officers arrested him and handed him over to the police. He reportedly told police that he holds dual citizenship of the US and Canada, and lives in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area. He was allegedly expelled from the Army for misconduct.]

Centre cautions UP government ahead of Ayodhya verdict New Delhi (IANS): As the Supreme Court is expected to deliver its judgment in the Ayodhya land dispute case next week, Union Home Ministry has cautioned the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government to ensure all security preparedness in the temple town, which would be turned into vir-
tual fortress to thwart any untoward incident posing a threat to the law and order situation. Citing intelligence inputs on terror threat, the Ministry has alerted the Uttar Pradesh government through a circular issued last week on the orders of Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, di-
recting maximum deployment of police force on the ground and keep tabs on rumours on social networking sites and through SMS when the apex court would announce its verdict over the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute. A “public address system” should also be put up

there, the circular mentions, according to a highly placed source requesting anonymity. Despite Ayodhya, the circular cautioned the Uttar Pradesh government to keep watch on highly sensitive areas in the state and deploy its police force at specific locations, following apprehensions that “anti-social elements” may provoke religious sentiments of the people. The circular was delivered to Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari, Director General of Police O.P. Singh and other departments concerned to avoid last-minute glitches, the source said. It is learnt through intelligence inputs that over halfa-dozen terrorists have entered Uttar Pradesh through the Nepal border to carry out terror attacks in the state on direction of their Pakistani-based handlers linked to Lashkar-eTaiba and Hizbul Mujahideen terror groups. The intelligence inputs warned that the terrorists could be hiding in Ayodhya and nearby towns. Some of them have been reportedly identified as Mohammed Yakub, Abu Hamza, Mohammed Shahbaz, Nisar Ahmed and Mohammed Qaumi Chaudhary. The terrorists may enter Ayodhya disguising themselves as Hindu men, the input said. The state police departments have assured the presence of over 50,000
police personnel on the day when the Supreme Court would announce the much-awaited judgement. An Uttar Pradesh police officer, seeking anonymity, told IANS that anti-terror squads, special police and paramilitary personnel, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) and drones, would be deployed in Ayodhya to monitor the crowd in real time. According to the officer, around 50 companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) is ready apart from RAF companies. Around 10 companies of PAC and other security agencies are permanently posted for year-round security of the disputed site, trifurcated into blue, yellow and red zones. Over a dozen Superintendent of Police-rank officers along with 30 Deputy SPs and other lower junior rank officers would be deputed in Ayodhya which has been divided into eight zones, said the official. The Centre has also given order to deploy 40 companies -- around 4,000 personnel -- of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) or paramilitary force in Ayodhya that includes 16 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), around six companies each of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and RAF. A total of 13 CRPF companies have already been sent to Ayodhya and oth-

ers would be sent in twothree days, a Home Ministry source said. All CAPF companies would reach Ayodhya on November 11 and will be deployed till November 18 as per current order, said the official, adding the deployment of the paramilitary force may be increased as per the need and the date of their deployment can be changed. In a four-page directive, the Uttar Pradesh government on October 31 had also issued strict guidelines disallowing people from posting offensive posts on social media on deities. The directive will be in force till December 28, prohibits people from posting defamatory remarks on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter. A five-judge Supreme Court bench had heard the Ayodhya case on a day-today basis for 40 days and reserved its verdict on October 16. The apex court is expected to deliver its verdict on a dispute over the ownership of 2.77-acre of land in Ayodhya before November 17, when Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi retires. The Hindu parties, during the hearing, had argued that the entire 2.77-acre land is the birthplace of Lord Ram while the Muslim parties claimed the title over the land, saying Muslims had ownership of the land since 1528 when the mosque was built.

Pakistani video exposes ISI plan: Amarinder Chandigarh (IANS): Reacting strongly to the use of pictures of Khalistani separatist leaders in the Pakistani video song on the Kartarpur Corridor, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said this clearly endorsed his stand that there was a hidden ISI agenda behind the historic corridor. Talking informally with media persons on the sidelines of the special session of the Assembly here to mark the 550th Prakash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, he said he had been warning against the ISI role in the Pakistan decision to open the corridor since the day their Prime Minister announced it. Even though the corridor marked the realization of the long-cherished dream of
the entire Sikh community, including him, to pay their respects at the historic shrine, India could not afford to ignore the ISI threat that was attached to it, said the Chief Minister, stressing the need for extreme caution. “This is what I have been cautioning against all along: they (the ISI) has a negative agenda behind it. We have to be very careful,” he said, in response to a question. The video, he said, had only exposed the true intent of the ISI. “On the one hand, they are seemingly showing us compassion and humanity, and on the other, they seem intent on using the corridor to woo the Indian Sikhs to promote the ISI-backed 2020 Khalistan Referendum
Punjab Police support Delhi cops Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Police on Wednesday came out in solidarity and support of their colleagues in Delhi in the wake of assaults on policemen by lawyers in the national capital. A resolution was passed by Punjab Police strongly condemning the attack and demanding justice, along with exemplary action against those responsible. The resolution read: “All IPS and PPS officers of the Punjab Police condemn the brutal attack on officers of Delhi Police in the strongest possible terms. Such assaults on police officers or their humiliation during discharge of their onerous official duties cannot be tolerated.” “No section of society or class of people is above the constitution and the law. All officers and ranks of the Punjab Police stand in total support and solidarity with our brethren in their demand for justice and call for exemplary action against those responsible for such assaults.” Director General Dinkar Gupta later tweeted: “We, the IPS and PPS officers of Punjab Police, strongly condemn the brutal attack on Delhi Police officers. Nobody is above the law and Constitution. We stand with our brethren in their demand for justice and seek exemplary action against those responsible for such assaults.” The DGP said the attack on the police officers by the lawyers in Delhi was in violation of all tenets of law, and totally unpardonable. As disciplined officers of the force, the police had borne the brunt of the assault without retaliation and it was now up to the various agencies of the criminal justice system to take cognisance of the matter and ensure necessary action. If lawful action were not taken promptly against the guilty, it was likely to damage the morale of the police officers who put their life on the line everyday in the line of duty, especially in the border states of the country, such as Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
Punjab freezes assets of Rs 3.90 crore of eight drug peddlers: In a major crackdown, Punjab Police have frozen assets of over Rs 3.90 crore [1 crore = 10 million] belonging to eight alleged drug peddlers apprehended under various provisions of the NDPS Act. All movable and immovable assets of the smugglers from Tarn Taran have been frozen immediately after the police received clearance for the action from the Department of Revenue of the government of India, an official spokesperson said on Tuesday. The action was expected to act as a deterrent for drug smugglers and peddlers to strengthen the campaign launched by the state government to wipe out the drug menace from the state, he said. The bulk of the assets frozen belong to Mukhtiar Singh against whom a case was registered after seizure of 1 kg heroin. In another case, property of Mukhtiar Singh of Rs 73.22 lakh [Rs 7.32 million] has been seized.
and creating sleeper cells here”, Amarinder Singh said. The controversy over the Pakistani video song has been triggered by the use of a picture showing three Khalistani separatist leaders, who were killed during Operation Blue Star in June 1984. The Chief Minister also lashed out at the Akali leaders for playing into the hands of the ISI with their politically motivated comments on the Kartarpur Corridor issue. Reacting to recent statements by Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal and former state minister Bikram Majithia that he (the Chief Minister) had been trying to sabotage the corridor by cautioning against an ISI game plan, Amarinder Singh said the Akali leaders
were blinded by their lust for power. They (the SAD leaders) cannot see beyond their petty
political interests”, said the Chief Minister, adding their stubborn refusal to see the signs of the ISI’s disruptive
agenda smacked of selfishness and total disregard for the interests of Punjab and its people.

Follow Guru Nanak’s teachings on conserving nature: Punjab CM Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday set the tone for the historic special session of the Assembly to mark the 550th ‘Prakash Parb’ (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak Dev with a call for the protection of nature. Recalling Guru Nanak’s saying of “Pavan Guru, Pani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahat”
(Air is the guru, water the father, and earth the mother), the Chief Minister underlined the intrinsic bond between nature and mankind. This ideology needs to be preserved in letter and spirit to ensure that the future generations do not suffer from deadly diseases due to environmental pollution, as is evident from the prevail-
ing air pollution which has degraded the quality in the entire northern region, including the national capital, Amarinder Singh said. Besides Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana, Amarinder Singh and Manohar Lal Khattar, respectively,
the Governors of both the states, V.P. Singh Badnore and Satyadeo Narain Arya, were present on the occasion, along with legislators and members of Parliament from both states. The special Assembly session, chaired by Naidu, was called ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor on Saturday and dispatching the first lot of pilgrims to visit the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan’s Punjab province on the occasion of the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. The Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara, originally known as Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, is a highly revered Sikh shrine,
where Guru Nanak spent 18 years of his life, and is his final resting place. The Chief Minister in his address to the Assembly appealed to one and all to preserve nature and natural resources, to make Punjab clean, green and pollution free, in line with the Guru’s philosophy, by making optimal use of ground water, diversifying into less waterintensive crops, not burning paddy straw and checking use of chemical fertilizers. Similar views were presented by Venkaiah Naidu and Manmohan Singh. The Punjab Chief Minister also exhorted one and all to follow the timeless message of Guru Nanak to carve out an egalitarian society
without social and economic disparities. Noting that the current generation was blessed to be celebrating the momentous occasion of the 550th ‘Prakash Parb’ during their lifetime, Amarinder Singh called on all to imbibe the values of compassion and love from the first Sikh Guru’s teachings. The Chief Minister hoped that the bonhomie witnessed on Wednesday between the legislators of Punjab and Haryana present in the House would continue to strengthen the bond between the two states in future, thus enabling the overall development and prosperity of the region.

Sultanpur Lodhi (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, here on Tuesday, ushered in the week-long celebrations of the 550th Prakash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev with an appeal not to indulge in politics or one-upmanship, but to commemorate the event. He called upon the people to follow the Guru’s teachings of tolerance and harmony to counter the challenges of growing religious intolerance faced by the country. He in-
vited all to participate in the main function on November 12, and also to visit Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan. On the occasion, he also announced a new administrative complex and a Rs 150 crore [1 crore = 10 million] ring road around the heritage city of Sultanpur Lodhi to enhance its connectivity with other cities. The iconic Quila Sarai, which doubles up as the tehsil administrative office, would be preserved by the state govern-
ment as heritage building, he said. Amarinder Singh, along with Cabinet Minister Charnjit Singh Channi, also released four books on Guru Nanak’s philosophy, penned and edited by acclaimed Punjabi writers, including Surjit Patar. The books “Guru Nanak’s Blessed Trail”, “Guru Nanak Bani”, “Sone Ka Birkh” (The Golden Tree) and “Guru Nanak Dev Ji Life and Relics” have been printed by the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The Chief Minister also inaugurated two exhibitions comprising relics, manuscripts and rare books associated with Guru Nanak’s life. While one exhibition, put up by the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, showcases 53 panels depicting the life of the first Sikh Guru, the other has been curated by the Punjab Small Industries Export Corp.

Appendicitis: To operate or not to operate
THIS year about 700,000 appendectomies will be performed in North America. And although the lowly appendix does not get the attention associated with other problems, each year nearly 3,000 people will die of appendicitis. But do all cases require surgery? We’ve come a long way since the French surgeon Dupuytren ridiculed the idea that the appendix could be the cause of infection. Later, Henry Sands, a New York surgeon, simply stitched up a hole in an appendix! It’s also hard to believe that another surgeon, just straightened out the kinks in the appendix! If these patients survived, it was the Almighty who saved them. The appendix is a fingerlike tube about four inches long that’s situated in the lower right side of the abdomen. It’s usually bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi that block the opening of the appendix, triggering infection and pain. Today, once the diagnosis has been made, the gold standard for treatment is immediate surgical removal of the appendix. For years this has involved an abdominal operation. Now, removal is often performed by laparoscopic keyhole surgery. But whatever the decision, the key is to remove the appendix before it ruptures, resulting in peritonitis, and possible death. Some studies show that surgery may not always be required for all cases of appendicitis. For instance, a study in Finland, conducted
between 2009 and 2012, analyzed cases of uncomplicated appendicitis. These involved patients without perforation, abscess formation and inflammation located to the appendix. Some were treated successfully by antibiotics and did not require surgery during a one-year follow-up period. Others, where antibiotics failed, required surgery but did not have any significant complications due to the delay. A later study in 2018 concluded that six out of 10 patients who were treated with antibiotics for uncomplicated acute appendicitis remained free of disease for five years. Further studies have also concluded that using antibiotics is a feasible alternative to surgery. I would add some other important considerations. Where you’re located when appendicitis strikes is important. Years ago, I was a young surgeon on a ship transporting 800 displaced people from Germany to Canada. There was no anesthetist on board. The antibiotic option would have been an easy decision if I had encountered a passenger with appendicitis. But even if a surgeon is in a well-equipped hospital, the decision is never easy. Every surgeon knows the abdomen can contain a surprise package that can result in embarrassing findings. So what he or she believes is a docile appendix may be about to rupture with dire consequences. Or the diagnosis may be a twisted gangrenous ovarian cyst or cancerous bowel. It’s been nearly 300 years since Claudius Amyand removed the first appendix at St. George’s Hospital in London, England. Now, every year, about 700,000 North Americans will develop appendicitis, 13,000 people a week, 1,836 a day, 77 an hour, or one per minute. It’s always a tragedy when someone dies of preventable disease. Today one person in a thousand dies due to a non-perforated appendix. It’s five in a thousand if perforated. So don’t make these errors. If you develop abdominal pain, do not self-diagnose and assume you’ve just overindulged at dinner. Don’t believe the pain is due to constipation and take a laxative. This is the wrong decision if pain happens to be due to a bowel obstruction. And do not decide to eat a meal.
The logical decision is to get medical advice quickly. When sudden pain strikes the lower right abdomen, see your doctor, and if pain is severe, go to the hospital emergency. Remember, “If you decide to treat yourself you have a fool for a patient!” Online: docgiff.com Comments: info@docgiff.com

Ram Kapoor, Shahana Goswami join Nair’s ‘A Suitable Boy’
Mumbai (IANS): Actors Ram Kapoor, Shahana Goswami and Vivek Gomber have joined the star cast of filmmaker Mira Nair’s upcoming “A Suitable Boy”. They have joined the previous-announced cast members -- Tabu, Ishaan Khatter,
newcomer Tanya Maniktala, Rasika Dugal, Namit Das, Gagan Dev Riar, Danesh Razvi, Mikhail Sen and Mahira Kakkar. A Lookout Point production for BBC One, “A Suitable Boy” will be the first screen adaptation of Vikram Seth’s international bestseller
of the same name. It has been penned by screenwriter Andrew Davies. The six-part adaptation is being directed by Nair and filming has already started at locations across India including Lucknow. “A Suitable Boy” tells the story of spirited university student Lata (Tanya) in 1951 at the same time as the country is carving out its own identity as an independent nation and is about to go to the polls for its first democratic general election. It is a tale charting the fortunes of four large families and exploring India and its rich and varied culture at a crucial point in its history. Lata’s mother is determined to find her husband - a suitable boy. But Lata, torn between family duty and the excitement of romance, embarks on her own, journey of love and self-discovery. Ram Kapoor will be taking on the role of Mahesh Kapoor. The father of the other lead character, the wayward Maan Kapoor, Mahesh is a veteran politician who fought for independence and is now marked by the years he spent in jail under British rule.
“I have worked with Mira Nair on two films -- ‘Monsoon Wedding’ and ‘Words with Gods’, both of which have been master pieces. Working with her has been a deligh and I cannot wait to see how beautifully she paints a picture of ‘A Suitable Boy’. I play Mahesh Kapoor in the series, a veteran poli tician who is not only a patriot, but also a reformist at the same time. He is a charac ter with multiple shades and layers, and I’m looking forward to getting under his skin,” Ram said. Shahana will be seen as Meenakshi, who is married to Lata’s brother Arun. Vivek wil play Arun. On playing Meenakshi in the series, Shah ana said: “It is been a dream to work with Mira since I was a kid and there couldn’ be a better project to be able to collaborate with her on.” Vivek is “stoked to be working with” Nair. “I feel incredibly lucky to have got the job I hope I can do justice to the role of Arun Mehra, Mira’s vision and of course Vikram Setha¿s book,” he added.
Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet in untitled family dramedy Mumbai (IANS): Actors Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh will team up for the first time for an untitled family dramedy. Kaashvie Nair, who had earlier assisted filmmaker Nikkhil Advani on his sports-drama “Patiala House” and the 2013 action thriller “D-Day”, and also co-directed the TV series “POW: Bandi Yuddh Ke”, will be making her feature film debut as a director with this upcoming film. Arjun said that when the film’s team gave him a narration, he knew instantly that it was a special script. “I have grown up in a joint family, so I understood that it’s the biggest pillar of love, strength and support. That’s the essence of our film, which has its heart in the right place. I’m having a blast even during the prep,” said the son of producer Boney Kapoor. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, Nikkhil Advani and John Abraham, the film will go on floors this month. “It is a coming-of-age, cross-border love story, beautifully written by Anuja Chauhan, Amitosh Nagpal and Kaashvie. It will be shot extensively in Punjab and Los Angeles and will feature Arjun and Rakul in never-seen-before avatars. We will be locking the title and the release date soon,” said Nikkhil. Bhushan added: “It sums up our everyday experiences and relationships with our families. The audience will definitely enjoy it.”

Nissan builds EV test car with twin-motor all-wheel control technology
OPPAMA, Japan: Nissan recently revealed a high-power, twin-motor all-wheel-control test car equipped with new technologies being developed for the company’s next generation of EVs. The vehicle, based on the 100% electric Nissan LEAF e+, features an enhanced all-wheel drive system powered by front and rear highpower motors integrated with Nissan-developed chassis control technology. The result is an electric-drive all-wheel-control system that will take the performance of Nissan’s electric cars to a new level. This exciting EV technology is a key component of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s vision of how vehicles are driven, powered and integrated into society. Using separate front and rear electric motors, the powertrain generates 227 kilowatts of maximum output and 680 Nm of maximum torque. This output is complemented by the ultra-high-precision motor control provided by Nissan’s advanced EV technology which offers highly responsive,
yet uncommonly smooth, acceleration. Drivers can benefit from the all-wheel-control system on nearly any road condition, heightening driving performance and confidence. The test car’s precision control of both motors provides unparalleled ride comfort. Vehicle pitch and dive are minimized by adding regenerative rear motor braking to the usual front motor regenerative braking. In addition to optimizing front and rear torque allocation, the system applies independent brake control at each of the four wheels to maximize the cornering force generated by each tire. This lets drivers enjoy cornering that faithfully follows their intentions with minimal steering. Despite being a test car with technology hidden inside, the bespoke exterior effectively communicates the advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology within, and creates excitement for the new era of Nissan EV technology. Fitted with overfenders and rally style wheels, this test car confirms it’s ready to take on the most punishing of road conditions. Inside, the test car sports a 12.3 inch display mounted in the center of the instrument panel that reports, in real-time, information on the vehicle control technology via a polished graphic interface. With the custom display, the driver can better understand vehicle movement, and judge the all-wheel-control technology’s performance at a glance.
Electric four-wheel-control technology increases driver confidence across a broad range of road conditions. When cornering on snow-covered roads, for example, the vehicle can faithfully

Mopar Debuts Lowliner Concept Truck at SEMA Show Customization of classic trucks continues to be a hot trend in the aftermarket world, so Mopar designers rescued a 1968 Dodge D200series heavy-duty pickup truck to transform it into the Candied Delmonico Red and Dairy Cream Mopar Lowliner Concept for this year’s SEMA Show. Designers fully boxed the original C-channel frame of the rear-wheel-drive truck, substantially lowered the ride height and lengthened the wheelbase for a more dramatic stance. They also made a custom, power-tilt front end to showcase the legendary 5.9-liter Cummins diesel engine, which is mated to a six-speed manual
transmission with a floormounted shifter. A custom air suspension is added to the front and rear axle with three modes: low, driving height and driving height plus. Custom designed wheels
with a “smoothie” look mimic stamped steel wheels of the late ‘60s. In the front, the Lowliner wheels are 22 inches by 9.5 inches and ride on 285/35-22 tires. The rear wheels measure 22 inches by 11 inches with 325/35-22
tires for a more muscular appearance. To package the air suspension components and relocated fuel cell, the floor of the truck bed is raised six inches by welding in a replacement floor from a current Ram
1500 pickup. The wheel wells in the concept truck were widened five inches per side to house the rear tires. Designers streamlined the exterior to reinforce a smooth body appearance, simplifying graphics and eliminating elements, such as door handles, badging, fuel-filler cap and radio antenna. The original headlamps have been replaced by seven-inch LED headlamps. The back of the Lowliner features custom taillights with integrated backup lights, reinforcing the modern take on a classic truck. The Mopar Omega M logo has been ghosted onto the front fenders and a vintage Dodge graphic is ghosted onto the truck’s tailgate.
Inside the Lowliner, the original bench seat is covered in an orange-amber Blazing Saddle Tan leather with a distressed look. The headliner is also leather with a Mopar Omega M logo stitched into it. Custom-tailored tan carpet adorns the floor. The original 1968 steering wheel has been retained with the original Dodge fratzog emblem on the horn ring cap. Instrumentation is reworked with seven custom Mopar gauges mounted to a unique “engine turned” aluminum panel. The floor-mounted shifter is topped by translucent metalflake shift ball with the Cummins logo, reinforcing the retro appearance of the truck.
Fiat 124 Spider Abarth: Belongs on your Driveway! By Autoreviewman Fiat is famous for making exciting sports cars on its own, but has now teamed up with Mazda for input with the new version of its iconic Fiat 124 Spider two seater. The new version shares the current Mazda MX-5 platform, which also gives up its transmission from the previous-generation MX-5, and a few other bits and pieces. Like the MX-5, the Fiat 124 is a looker with that aggressive front hood. The 124 is slightly longer due to the longer hoof, and different front and rear fascias. The 124 Spider is also a tad lower. Hate to say it, but the Fiat wins out in the looks department with its matt black hood and trunk lid, and sleeker profile. Replacing the MX-5 2.0 liter four -cylinder engine is Fiat’s own 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo-four borrowed from the 500 Abarth mounted longitudinally,

and delivering 160-hp, and 184 lb-ft of torque. The 124 Spider also receives the six speed transmission – manual or auto from the MX-5.The 124 Spider is priced from $31,795 (Classica), $33,795 for the mid -range Lusso and $35,295 for the top Abarth edition. The 124 Spider Abarth, as tested adds: 17-inch gunmetal wheels, red brake calipers, dual exhausts, Abarth badging, and more aggressive unique front and rear fascias, and gun metal mirror caps. In the handling department, the Abarth
or big sized people, and interior storage and cargo area is small. Also it starts getting expensive when you add all the options in the Abarth version. Still if you want the most fun in thorough-
bred sports car you should really consider it. Go On! You only live once! 2019 Fiat 124 Spyder Abarth Base Price: $33,295 plus options. Price as tested -$51,420
gets rear Bilstein dampers, a mechanical limited-slip differential, front strut tower bar and sport mode selector. The Abarth version also comes with as standard: heated seats, automatic climate control, Sirius satellite radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 7-inch infotainment display from the MX -5. The Fiat also offers optional premium packages To sum up, the 124 Abarth is a lithe, gorgeous car to own and drive, it’s exceptional in and around town with its pleasant driving manners.
