New Delhi (IANS): RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's comments on Mother Teresa kicked up a furore as political parties and Christian groups Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi show that he meant every word of his assurance last week that he would not tolerate inciting of religious hatred. From Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who said Mother Teresa, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and the Bharat Ratna, was a "noble soul" and should be spared, to the Congress party and Christian organisations, including the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa, all termed Bhagwat's comments "uninformed" and "unfortunate". A week after Modi spoke out strongly on religious freedom, saying "My government will not allow any religious group to incite hatred against others, overtly or covertly. Mine will be a government that gives equal respect to all religions", there was a chorus of demands from all quarters that the prime minister show that he meant what he said. "I worked wid Mother Teresa for a few months at Nirmal Hriday ashram in Kolkata. She was a noble soul. Pl spare her,"

Kejriwal tweeted. Bhagwat said in Rajasthan Monday that Mother Teresa's service to the poor was aimed at converting them to Christianity. The Congress raised the issue in the Lok Sabha but the government refused to respond. "The government has nothing to do with such statements. Individual organisations have every right to speak outside (parliament)," Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said. The Missionaries of Charity described Bhagwat as "uninformed" in the light of his conversion remarks. "His (Bhagwat) comments reflect how misinformed he is. In Missionaries of Charity, there is no place for conversion. His

comments are unfortunate," Teresa's close associate and Missionaries of Charity spokesperson Sunita Kumar told IANS in Kolkata. Sunita Kumar said the Missionaries of Charity will not press for an apology from Bhagwat. The Delhi Catholic Archdiocese said the Christian community was in a state of shock over Bhagwat's comment and that it was time Modi walked the talk on his assurance on not tolerating inciting of religious hatred. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condemned Bhagwat's remarks, saying it reflects the "perverted mind of someone having prejudiced mindset". Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Sambit Patra declined to comment on Bhagwat's statement. "I would not be commenting on this," Patra told IANS. The Congress demanded that the prime minister "unequivocally" condemn Bhagwat's remarks. "RSS is the dominant force which controls the Modi g overn men t . .. t he prime minister can't pretend that the BJP has nothing to do with the RSS," Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha told IANS.

New Delhi (IANS): Amid controversy over Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's leave during the budget session and demands that he be elevated, party president Sonia Gandhi said Thursday that everyone will get to know when such a decision is taken. "You will know, when it happens," she said. The Congress vice chief is on a few week's leave during the budget session to reflect on and chart a course for the future of the party, which has suffered a series of electoral reverses including a debacle in the Delhi assembly polls in which it could not win a single seat in the 70member house despite ruling the city on the trot for 15 years till 2013. The Congress also has finished third or fourth in the four assembly polls held since its debacle in the Lok Sabha polls last year. His absence has drawn critical remarks from the party's rivals. Rahul Gandhi has held extensive consultations with party leaders and workers over the past few months to evolve a road map for the party's revival. Sources said there is a view in the party that he should get a free hand to implement his ideas and he should take responsibility as party president. The elevation, they said, could take place during a meeting of All India Congress Committee, expected in April or a Congress working committee meeting could be convened for the purpose. Nine-time party MP Kamal Nath said in an interview Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi should be made party chief and should be should be in a commanding position to implement the road map which will take the party forward.

Foreign secretary begins SAARC yatra March 1 New Delhi (IANS): In a major step forward in its neighbourhood outreach policy, the Indian government is sending Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar on a 'yatra' of four SAARC countries, including Pakistan, from March 1. The visit, begins with key neighbour Bhutan March 1, followed by Bangladesh March 2, Pakistan March 3 and Afghanistan the following day. The visit to the rest of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) neighbours - Sri Lanka, Maldives and Nepal is yet to be announced. The external affairs ministry moved fast in announcing the dates, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted Feb 17 that Jaishankar would be leaving on a SAARC yatra soon. Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said in a statement that the foreign
Feb 13, "Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar would visit Pakistan March 3-4". "During his visit, Jaishankar would hold a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry," said Aslam. Both sides have started preparations for the muchanticipated visit. Despite the initial bonhomie with Pakistan after the Modi government took over last year, relations have soured between the two, especially over Islamabad hobnobbing with Kashmiri separatists and the ceasefire violations leading to fatalities. India had also called off the foreign secretary level talks last August after the Pakistani envoy in India held talks with Kashmiri separatists, ignoring India's objections. secretary will be undertaking the visit "in accordance with the prime minister's directives". Modi is likely to go on a bilateral visit to the two key Indian Ocean neighbours of Maldives and Sri Lanka in mid-March, during which he is to be accompanied by the foreign secretary. Jaishankar, who was India's envoy to the US before being appointed foreign secretary Jan 28, would be visiting the two countries later. Modi had also visited Nepal twice last year, one a standalone bilateral visit and the second for the SAARC Summit in Kathmandu. Of Jaishankar's SAARC yatra, the most-watched destination will be the visit to Islamabad March 3. Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said in Islamabad that following Modi's call to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

MEA reaches out on Facebook Q & A
New Delhi (IANS): As part of its public outreach, India's external affairs ministry Tuesday held its first question and answer session on Facebook with its spokesperson being flooded with questions from across the world during the 45minute session, including requests to help out Indians in a Maldives jail. MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, who has 257,000 followers on Twitter and regularly updates the social media platform with posts on any new diplomatic event, received
around 30 questions. The 45minute session reached 112,192 Facebook users, with 4,655 likes, comments and shares. From answering questions on India's stand on Palestine, to stating that Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar is to undertake a "SAARC Yatra" to all South Asian countries, including Pakistan, in March, the spokesperson also informed participants of the ministry's new Grievances Monitoring System (MADAD) to tackle grievances pertaining to consular Services offered by Indian missions/posts abroad.
A question on China's protest on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, got the answer: "As you all know, the state of Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India. The people of Arunachal Pradesh are citizens of India. Indian leaders visit Arunachal Pradesh from time to time, as they visit other parts of India." To a query whether India was willing to discuss Kashmir with Pakistan, the answer was: "We stand ready to talk with Pakistan in accordance with the
Simla Agreement on all issues including Jammu & Kashmir." On how India would go about is membership at the UN Security Council, Akbaruddin answered: "The UN Security Council Reform process is being discussed at the UN General Assembly. We are hoping for a framework to be agreed upon. Once this is done, individual countries will be able to vote for candidates, including India, for permanent membership." To a query whether there was a proposal to increase the
strength of diplomats, he wrote: "There are nearly 2,000 Indian diplomats. This of course is still not enough. We have increased our annual intake to the Indian Foreign Service. When I joined in 1985, the annual intake was only 12. Now, in 2014, it is 35. This is a nearly 300 percent increase." However, there were several requests for help from the ministry for some Indians jailed in the Maldives for some alleged crimes, which did not elicit an answer.

A uniform of an IPS officer along with a wireless set was recovered from him. Nair stayed at Hotel Rama in Karol Bagh, and was heading to his hotel when he was arrested. "Following a complaint made by mobile shop owner Kultar Singh on Feb 23, we laid a trap and arrested Nair," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav. "The accused had cheated the complainant to the tune of Rs.1.65 lakh," added Yadav. "First time, Nair met the complainant in Karol Bagh's Gaffar Market at his shop Jan 30 and introduced himself as an IPS officer from Jaipur. He even showed an identity card to convince him,"
Yadav said. "He told Singh that his next posting would be in Delhi soon and purchased two mobile phones in exchange for two old ones. In this next meeting, Nair induced Singh in parting with two more mobile phones and Rs.1 lakh cash on the pretext that his ATM card was not functional," Yadav added. Singh had then obliged him believing that Nair was a genuine officer. However, on his next visit to Delhi, the complainant met Nair at the hotel, when he got suspicious about Nair's identity and informed the police. Nair, who completed his M.Tech and PhD in computer science from Anna University in Chennai, also worked as an assistant pro-
fessor at the Jayaram College of Engineering and Technology in Hyderabad. He has also worked as a senior reader at Madanapalle Institute of Technology and Science in Odisha. In February 2014, he met with an accident that confined him to bed for over five months, following which he lost his job. "Nair had an old and insatiable quirk to become an IPS officer and he utilised this as an opportunity to become an imposter for earning a living. He got the uniform stitched from a Jaipur-based tailor," Yadav said. "Our efforts are on to identify as to how many people he has cheated," Yadav added.

Different languages spice up Delhi assembly oath-taking New Delhi (IANS): The swearing-in ceremony of the Delhi assembly Monday witnessed a colourful mix of languages including Punjabi, Maithli, Urdu, English and even Sanskrit much to the liking of those
present in the house. While the majority of the 67 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members took oath in Hindi, some of them preferred other languages, adding the much-needed colour to the usually dreary
ceremony. Assembly members by the name of Jarnail Singh, from Rajouri Garden and Tilak Nigar constituencies, took oath in Punjabi. Devendra Sehrawat (Bijwasan), Somnath Bharti
(Malviya Nagar) and Nitin Tyagi (Laxmi Nagar) preferred English. Okhla legislator Amanatullah Khan and Haji Ishraq (Seelampur) took oath in Urdu, while Rituraj Jha (Kirari) and Sanjeev Jha
(Burari) chose Maithili. Rituraj Jha was even dressed in traditional Maithili attire that included a white dhoti and a red kurta coupled with a bright yellow scarf and purple cap.
However, it was Kapil Mishra, the legislator from Karawal Nagar, who wowed the audience as he took oath in fluent Sanskrit, eliciting tremendous applause from the house.
Passengers spared, freight rates hiked in India's rail budget New Delhi (IANS): Sparing a passenger fare hike but raising freight rates again, Minister Suresh Prabhu presented his maiden budget for Indian Railways Thursday, with a slew of measures to improve service quality, safety and reach and a 52percent jump in plan outlay for 2015-16 at Rs.100,011 crore (US$16.7 billion). Raising some passenger train speeds by 50 percent on nine key routes, faster freight trains, userfriendly ladders to mount upper berths, wi-fi in 400 stations, more money for escalators, easier norms for unreserved tickets, 17,000 bio-toilets in trains, better connectivity in north-east and cameras for safety of women travellers are among the other highlights of the budget. "There will be no hike in passenger fares. We will focus on improving passenger amenities, including cleanliness," Railway Minister Prabhu said in a 66minute speech in the Lok Sabha, watched keenly by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had handpicked him for the job. Even though Prabhu made no mention of any revision in freight tariff in his speech, as has been the norm in the past, the minister,
nevertheless, revised it upward between 2.1 percent and 10 percent, not sparing even commodities like grain, pulses, urea and coal. In the previous budget tabled by the Modi government in July last year, passenger fares had been hiked by nearly 15 percent while the freight tariff was increased by 6.5 percent. The minister also promised a vastly improved operating ratio, which spells out how much money is spent on day-to-day operations to earn revenues -- an indication of the funds left for safety and expansion. He targeted to bring it down to 88.5 percent, or the lowest in nine years, from an unsustainable level of 93.6 percent in 201314 and 91.8 percent for this fiscal. This is better than what the prime minister had asked the railways to do a few days ago. Globally, a 75-80 percent or lower ratio is seen as a healthy benchmark. Prabhu also seemed to have ruled out the sale or leasing of surplus land and other assets to get revenues. "We will monetize our resources rather than sell," he said, adding: "Business as usual of asking for budgetary support
from finance ministry is neither sustainable nor necessary." He pegged a 52 percent jump in the plan outlay for 2015-16 at Rs.100,011 crore, projecting a 16.7 percent growth in passenger earnings and 13.5 percent in freight. The minister has also proposed a 46.5 percent increase in market borrowings to bridge the fiscal gap. Soon after the budget presentation, Prime Minister Modi gave a thumbs up to Prabhu. "Rail budget 2015 is forward looking, futuristic and passenger-centric, combining a clear vision and definite plan to achieve it, Modi said in a tweet, even calling it a watershed moment for railways. The same, however, was not true with the markets, with the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange falling some 260 points, or nearly 1 percent, with most stocks of companies associated with railways ending in the red.
Indian industry, by and large, welcomed the proposals notably the substantial hike in the plan outlay and the emphasis on private-public partnerships for bigticket projects. But some captains of industry felt the freight hike could have ben avoided. The minister began his speech with what ails Indian Railways. "Railway facilities have not improved very substantially over the past few decades. A fundamental reason for this is the chronic under-investment in Railways, which has led to congestion and over-utilization," he said. "As a consequence, capacity augmentation suffers, safety is challenged and the quality of service delivery declines, leading to poor morale, reduced efficiency, sub-optimal freight and passenger traffic and fewer financial resources. This again feeds the vicious cycle of under-investment," he said.
"This must be put to an end," said the chartered accountantturned-politician, while presenting the budget for one of the largest railway networks in the world. "We have to make our Indian Railways a benchmark organisation in safety, security and infrastructure," he said in a speech peppered with several Hindi couplets. He also set four goals to transform Indian Railways: Improved customer experience, safer travel, modern infrastructure and financial self-sustainability. "We will also create a separate department for taking care of cleanliness." India boasts one of the oldest and the largest railroad networks in the world, ferrying some 23 million people, or a population the size of Australia, as also 2.65 million tonnes of goods on its coaches, each day. It serves from 7,172 stations via 12,617 passenger and 7,421 freight trains on a track network spanning Baramulla in the Himalayan foothills of Kashmir to the southern tip of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, and from Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh to the port town of Okha in Gujarat.

'Punjab's forts need awareness, restoration plan' Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab's magnificent forts and other heritage structures need a public awareness and official restoration plan so that these historic symbols of state power can be preserved for future generations, feel experts from the International Committee on Fortifications and Military Heritage (ICOFORT). After touring heritage structures, especially forts, in Punjab for nearly 12 days this month, the 19-member team of experts, mostly from European countries, felt that though satisfactory work was being done to maintain forts in Punjab, a comprehensive restoration plan could help better preserve the state's rich heritage. "The forts (in Punjab) need a good restoration plan. Rain and other conditions damage the restoration after some time. The difference between a restoration plan and repair must be understood. At some places (in Punjab), only repairs are being undertaken," Hans-Rudolf Neumann, who headed the ICOFORT team during the tour, told IANS in an interview. "I feel that engineers and architects should be sent to other places and countries to understand how restoration is done. Restoration takes a long time, even 10-15 years. It is not a question of spending money alone;
experienced people are also required," Neumann added. He said that the team was quite impressed with the heritage available in Punjab. "Restoration of forts in Punjab is necessary for the national identity of the Punjabi people. When people know about their history, they feel proud. Also, there is a need for more education of people about their heritage," Neumann pointed out. The team, which included experts from Australia, France, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, Turkey and
Ukraine, visited forts and heritage structures in Patiala, Nabha, Bathinda, Patti, Amritsar and Chandigarh. The team also saw 'sarais' (fortified structures for resting) along the Mughal-time imperial highway, later called the Grand Trunk (GT) Road and now National Highway No. 1. Neumann said that the team's experience about the heritage structures along the GT Road was "unique". "Their objective was to know about these forts, both from the perspective of the historical narrative
and from the point of view of technology and material of the past and the current conservation and management scenario of these sites," leading conservationist Gurmeet S. Rai, who was with the team for some time, told IANS. "The visit of these experts is an opportunity to highlight the heritage values and conservation challenges and the need for the government to understand that heritage conservation is more than the 'fixing' of old buildings," Rai said. Punjab has taken a Rs.300 crore ($48 million) loan from the Asian
Development Bank (ADB) for promoting cultural heritage tourism. "Forts were the symbol of state power. Unlike the forts in Europe and some other countries which were only for military purposes, the forts here were multi-purpose ones with palaces, temples and other buildings inside," Neumann said. Having studied the Bahadurgarh Fort near Patiala, Bathinda Fort and the Gobindgarh Fort near Amritsar, Neumann and his team felt that there were definite European links to the architecture and design of these structures.
No proof kidnapped Indians dead or alive, Sushma tells relatives New Delhi (IANS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Saturday told relatives of 39 Indian nationals, who were taken held hostage by Islamic State jihadists in Iraq in June last year, that there was no proof of "their being alive or dead". However, she said that the government had got information
from sources that they had not been killed. "Taking this to be true, we are searching for them," Sushma Swaraj told the media after the meeting. It was the sixth meeting of Sushma Swaraj with relatives of the Indian nationals taken hostage. "So far, no proof has been
found of their being alive or dead," she said. The minister said the families had been told of the developments since their last meeting with her. "Listening to this they have this satisfaction that the government is leaving no stone unturned," she said. The minister said the govern-
ment is trying its level best on the issue. "There is no country, no individual who we think can be of help, who has not been contacted," she said. The Indians were working for a Turkish construction company in Mosul when they were abducted in mid-June. Most of them hail from Punjab.

Punjab offers rewards to stop stubble burning Chandigarh (IANS): The Punjab government Wednesday announced rewards to districts and villages across the state which curb the unhealthy practice of burning stubble (residue of harvested crops). "The Punjab government has announced an incentive for each district and village with a financial grant of Rs.1 crore and Rs.1 lakh respectively, which were free from the burning of stubble," a state government spokesman said here. "This decision has been
taken to curb the practice of straw burning, which was not only a health hazard but equally detrimental to the fertility of soil," the spokesman said. He said it was considered that resorting to punitive measures to end this menace would not yield results and hence it was decided to reward the districts and villages which curbed the practice of straw burning. The burning of crops straw leads to massive air pollution during harvesting season. This leads to health issues for many people.
The Punjab government has urged agriculture scientists, environment experts and farmers to join hands for curbing the unhealthy practice and suggest ways for farmers to dispose off the crop residue after harvesting. Punjab contributes over 50 percent of food grains, wheat and paddy, to the national kitty despite having just 1.54 percent of geographical area of the country. In the recent years, the state has seen bumper crops of wheat and paddy.

Chandigarh (IANS): The Punjab and Haryana government have agreed to make Ghaggar river pollution free by the end of the year, a senior Punjab government official said Wednesday. "With the operationalisation of 25 Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) located in 21 towns in the vicinity of Ghaggar, as per deliberations between Mr. Parkash Singh Badal Chief Minister Punjab and Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar Chief Minister Haryana recently, the river will be made pollution free," Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal said. The Punjab government has asked district authorities to speed up work on the STPs. Kaushal said that covering the STPs was prerequisite for cleaning Ghaggar river, where sewage and other industrial wastes were being released by various civic authorities. The river, which originates from Himachal Pradesh, passes through Haryana before entering Punjab. Most of the pollution in the river happens in Haryana and Punjab. The Punjab government has also asked the C h a n d i g a r h Administration to check the inflow of the pollutants from the Sukhna

Dr. Prabhjit S. Purewal of California agrees to pay $550,000 to resolve False Claims Act allegations SACRAMENTO, California: United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced Tuesday that Prabhjit S. Purewal, M.D., a Manteca-based oncologist, agreed to pay the United States $550,000 to settle allegations that he defrauded Medicare, Tricare and Medicaid by billing these public insurers for chemotherapy drugs the US Food and Drug Administration had not approved for use in the United States. Dr. Purewal has paid the United States $400,000 to date. The settlement resolves the United States’ contentions that Dr. Purewal had, over a two-year period ending in May 2011, purchased chemotherapy drugs
from Warwick Healthcare Solutions, Inc., also known as Richard’s Pharma (“Warwick), administered the drugs to his patients, and improperly sought and received reimbursement for the drugs from Medicare and other public insurers. Warwick, a former United Kingdom-based drug distributer, did not have a license to distribute drugs in the United States, and many of the drugs Dr. Purewal purchased from Warwick were not FDAapproved. The FDA regulates pharmaceuticals in the US to ensure the drugs are safe and effective. The United States contended that by claiming and receiving reimbursement from Medicare, Tricare, and Medicaid
for these drugs, Dr. Purewal violated the federal False Claims Act. “Investigating healthcare related fraud allegations is one of our District’s top priorities,
said U.S. Attorney Wagner. “My office works closely with our federal and state partners to ensure that our publicly funded healthcare insurers reimburse practitioners only for approved services and medicines. “Patients -- especially those battling cancer and other lifethreatening illnesses -- should be able to trust that their physicians only use medicines approved by the FDA, medicines proven to be safe and effective, said Special Agent in Charge Ivan Negroni of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General. “Our agency will continue to pursue health care providers that ignore
requirements designed to protect patient health and federal health care programs. “Ensuring that patients receive FDA-approved prescription drugs from the legitimate supply chain is an FDA priority, said Lisa Malinowski, Special Agent in Charge of the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations. “For drugs that enter the U.S. from outside that protected system, there is no guarantee that the drug is FDA-approved, not counterfeit, or otherwise lacks safety or effectiveness. We will continue to work to protect the health of patients who rely on prescription drugs and to ensure the safety and effectiveness of those drugs.
Indian languages have few takers in US Washington (IANS): Despite the Indian economy's rapid growth and the increase in US-India ties, American students continue to display low interest in Indian languages, preferring instead languages like Chinese, Korean or Arabic, according to a new language survey. Students in US colleges and universities are not signing up for Indian languages at remotely the scale languages like Arabic, Chinese or Korean experience, a South Asia expert noted citing the survey by the Modern Language Association (MLA). "Indian languages follow a path less travelled," wrote Alyssa Ayres, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, citing MLA's quadrennial language enrolments
survey of foreign languages in US higher education. "The big post-9/11 national security interest that resulted in many more Americans studying Arabic did not have the same impact on Indian languages, she noted. Nor has India's economic rise resulted in the dramatic growth in numbers languages like Japanese, Chinese, and Korean have seen, Ayers said. "Of course it's harder to compare India's many languages with each of these, but even when including all the Indian language enrolments in the United States combined, the number still doesn't cross 4,000," she noted. For 2013, Indian language enrolments dropped to 3,090 from the 3,924 of 2009. These included Hindi
(1800), Hindi-Urdu (533), Urdu (349), Punjabi (124), Tamil (82), Bengali (64), Telugu (51), Malayalam (44), Nepali (27), Gujarati (6) Kannada (5) and Marathi (5). Ayers contrasted it with the scale of study that Japanese (nearly 67,000), Chinese (over 61,000), and Korean (more than 12,000) had in the US during 2013. "In the case of India and its official and many other languages, I'm afraid that Americans do not see these as a high priority compared with other choices," she said. The pattern appears as well in US study abroad destinations, where India does not even make the top ten, Ayers said. According to the survey during 2013, the year the newly-released data covers, foreign language enrol-

ChaiTime 5 reasons why letter writing is making a comeback SUDOKU
Looking back at a note to an old friend or a message from a family member reinvigorates past memories and has a tangible and enduring quality that allows the message to live on forever.
In a world where the majority of our communication takes place in short bursts over text, email, or in 140 characters over social media, the power of the written word is becoming a priceless virtue. Instant communication has lessened the impact of individual messages, creating a craving for personalized forms of expression. There is something impressive about receiving a handwritten letter. Here's why: 1. It's thoughtful. You know when you receive a letter in the mail that someone has put thought and effort into sending it out. The absence of spell check or cut and paste will force you to consider what you really want to say. This offers a great personal touch and can show someone that you really care.
HOW TO PLAY: Digits 1 through 9 will appear once in each zone - one zone is an outlined 3x3 grid within the larger puzzle grid. There are nine zones in the puzzle. Do not enter a digit into a box if it already appears elsewhere in the same zone, row across or column down the entire puzzle. Solve Time: Under 13 min. - Genius; 13-17 min - Scholar; 17-21 min - Smart; 21-25 min - Not bad; 25+ min - Keep practising 2. It's fun! With endless options of personalized stationar y, DIFFICULTY LEVEL : MEDIUM
elegant pens, tailored labels and unique postcards, it's easy to get excited about writing letters. Exploring stationery accessories and writing personalized greeting cards or birthday messages can be fun do it yourself project. 3. It can make a difference. Picking up a pen and paper can change the lives of people across the world. Amnesty International campaigns in many ways, but when the immediate safety of someone is at risk, the method of choice is a
global network of letter writers. Amnesty's Urgent Action Network members stand by ready to send letters to authorities around the world for individuals at risk of abuses like torture, imminent execution or unlawful arrest. To learn more about the Urgent Action N e t w o r k , v i s i t w w w. a m n e s t y. c a / g e t invoved/urgent-action-network
5. It's unique. A simple hand written note after a job interview can set you apart from other candidates. When an employer receives a hand written letter, they know that the applicant took the time to create a personalized message just for them. To a potential employer, this is a physical reminder of your interest in them or the company.
Answer
4. It's nostalgic. Though we love the speed and ease of sending a text message or email, hand written notes have permanence.

Effective scouting system important for Indian football: Coach Constantine New Delhi (IANS): Newlyappointed Indian football team chief coach Stephen Constantine Tuesday stressed the importance of a strong talent scouting system. In his first official media interaction since taking over the job of the Indian team, ranked 171st by FIFA, Constantine said that he will give equal opportunities to all players to stake their place to represent the country. "I am very excited to be here in India. There is a lot of work left but I promise that I am up for it. I will do everything I can to improve." "My mission is to set up a successful scouting network. I want to touch everything from the
State Leagues to the national level tournaments to the Universities. I am sure that there are hundreds of players who are capable of playing for India. We need to widen the net. No country can progress in football without a proper grassroot and youth development programme." Constantine was the coach of the Rwanda national team before taking up this post. The Englishman guided the Africans to their highest world ranking of 68 in last month’s FIFA list. He said he will ask a scouting expert from England to brief the Indian selectors at various levels on the criteria to select a player. Constantine's first assignment
for India is against Nepal March 12 and 17 In Guwahati and Kathmandu respectively in the World Cup qualifiers preliminary joint qualification Round 1. "We need to work hard to win those two games. I promise that we will give everything on the field. Off course the matches would be difficult as Nepal have a tough mentality. We work hard as it increases our chances of success." Referring to a question, the coach quipped: "I haven't yet decided on my captain. I will work with my boys and then decide on my captain." The Indian National Team assembles for a preparatory Camp in Guwahati March 4.
We have to brush off India loss: Hashim Amla
Brisbane (IANS): South Africa's opening batsman Hashim Amla Wednesday urged his teammates to “brush off ” and not be “dramatic” about their dismal loss against India Sunday and to look forward to their upcoming games in the World Cup. "We didn't manage to string enough big partnerships closely together and we lost wickets at key times. Things like that happen. We just want to brush it off, take the knock on our chin, and get our heads up for the next game," Amla was quoted as saying by espncricinfo.
"Everybody in the team has played enough to know that you do win and lose games. There can only be one winner and one loser. So, let's not get too dramatic about it," he said. The 31-year-old, who has been in quite impressive form of late scoring two hundreds and three fifties in his last nine innings, added he has been striking the ball well but it is not every day that a batsman can perform to his potential. "I'd love to score runs every game but I don't think it's possible. It's been a slow start and hopefully it gets better. I'm feeling good.
He also pointed out that things have bettered for India in terms of popularity, especially after the inaugural edition of the Hero Indian Super League. "The ISL has proved that Indians love football as much as they love their cricket. We need to cash in on that. It's not every day that you get to train with the likes of Mikael Silvestre and others. Training with such Players would obviously help you to improve." Speaking on his reunion with his former captain Shanmugam Venkatesh as the assistant coach of the national team, Constantine said: "Venky was with me right from the start and he knows what I am like, the
manner I want to play and what I want. I think we need to give our young coaches a chance. He is somebody who is willing to learn and is energetic. Let's give him a shot and see what happens." The 52-year-old also proposed a new idea of multi-national passports that could see players of Indian origin play for the national team. "I want Players who love their country. There are a lot of players who are playing in foreign leagues at the moment. I would suggest for a multi-national passport for such players. It's just an idea, but I would like if it can be made possible because everybody else is doing it."

All-new 2015 Hyundai Genesis introduces new all-wheel drive system
Hyundai ushers in a new era for its worldclass premium product range with the recent unveiling of the all-new secondgeneration 2015 Genesis sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. With a single-minded focus on delivering the driving and ownership experience expected of the best premium sedans in the world, Hyundai has redesigned the Genesis from the ground up with bold styling, cutting-edge technologies, and exceptional driving dynamics. Originally introduced in 2009, Hyundai’s signature “Fluidic Sculpture” design language has since influenced every model in the brand’s line-up. The all-new 2015 Genesis is the first Hyundai product to feature the styling theme’s second generation, dubbed Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. While fluidic forms remain the core of
the design language, they’re presented in a more refined and simple manner. Adaptable to the company’s entire product range, Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 will give all Hyundai products a consistent modern
aesthetic and a premium overall feel. The 2015 Genesis will be the first Hyundai model to incorporate the brand’s all-new HTRAC all-wheel drive (AWD) system. Developed to offer consistent all-

weather traction while improving the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour, HTRAC underwent extensive testing at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife race track, Korea’s Yeongam Formula 1 racing circuit, and Hyundai’s California Proving Ground. Weighing just 61 kilograms, HTRAC distributes power through a variable torque split clutch. HTRAC is controlled in part by the Genesis’ new drive mode system. With the vehicle set in “Normal” mode, HTRAC defaults to a 40:60 rear-wheel biased torque distribution. The system can shift as much as 90 percent of engine output to the front axle in slippery conditions or 100 percent to the rear at higher speeds for reduced driveline drag and improved fuel economy. When the vehicle’s “Sport” mode is selected, HTRAC’s response is modified to counteract understeer and oversteer by sending power to the front or back as required. At speed in Sport mode, HTRAC gives Genesis a rear-wheel drive character by sending 80 to 90 percent of power output to the rear wheels. Genesis will offer a choice of revised 3.8-litre GDI V6 and 5.0-litre GDI V8 engines for 2015. Each receives a series of enhancements aimed at improving low-end torque, driveability, and fuel economy. Now developing an estimated 311 horsepower and 293 lb-ft of torque, the 3.8-litre “Lambda” V6 receives better breathing by way of a new 3stage Variable Induction System (VIS). The 2015 Genesis is underpinned by an all-new platform incorporating 38 percent more advanced high tensile-strength steel than its previousgeneration counterpart. Torsional and bending rigidity have been increased by 16 and 40 percent, respectively, surpassing the BMW 5-series in both measures. The structure of the vehicle was engineered to meet the most stringent international government and independent agency safety standards. Genesis models equipped with the 5.0-litre V8 receive a Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension capable of automatically adjusting its damping rate based on road conditions and the drive mode selected. The suspension is calibrated for superior ride comfort in Normal, Eco, and Snow modes while Sport mode firms the damping rate for enhanced handling precision and control. Genesis features Hyundai’s first application of Rack-mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS) which can vary power assistance based on readings from an integrated torque sensor. To balance high speed stability with direct response at lower speeds, Genesis uses a Variable Gear Ratio (VGR) system. All elements in the steering rack have been calibrated to offer accurate feedback and responsive handling behaviour. Genesis comes standard with 18inch alloy wheels and 245 millimetre section width tires at all four corners. Staggered fitment 19-inch alloy wheels with larger 275 millimetre section width rear tires are equipped on 5.0-litre V8 models to improve power delivery. The vehicle’s new alloy wheels are stronger and more resistant to deflection forces for more precise response to changing road surfaces. Stopping power is provided by four-piston fixed front brake calipers and large 345 or 360 millimetre rotors for V6 and V8 models, respectively.

Two more arrests in document leak case New Delhi (IANS): Two officials of the environment ministry and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) were arrested in connection with the official documents leak case, police said Thursday. Delhi Police have arrested Jatinder Nagpal, who is personal assistant to the joint secretary in the ministry. He was arrested Wednesday night along with Vipan Kumar, who is personal assistant to a member of the UPSC. Police said both the accused were detained Tuesday for questioning in connection with the petroleum and other ministries' document leakage case, which was unearthed Feb 17 night, with the arrest of two former multi-tasking staff (MTS) employees of Shastri Bhawan. Police added that Kumar, who was earlier working with the petroleum and natural gas ministry, used to get important / secret documents from his contacts in the ministry, which he had joined as a stenographer in 1996. Between 1996-2010, Kumar used to steal documents from the ministry with the help from his contacts and passed them on to corporate houses, police said. Nagpal has also joined service as a stenographer in 1994 at the ministry of law and justice, where he served until 2007. Between 20012003, he worked at the ministry of chemicals and fertilizers and used to procure documents from Vipan
Kumar, Lokesh Sharma (already arrested earlier) and his other contacts, they added. "Both (Nagpal and Kumar) disclosed that they have been part of this illegal activity since many years. They shared a common email address which was being used to forward documents to some of their clients," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav. Yadav said that both were produced in Dwarka Court and have been sent to five days' police custody. Informed sources said that Nagpal, a resident of west Delhi's Hari Nagar area, was detained two days ago as his name was revealed during the interrogation of Sharma, an employee of a Noida-based energy consultancy Infraline Energy. Kumar's name also cropped up during Sharma's interrogation.
Sharma, in his 30s, was formerly with the MTS at Shastri Bhawan. A resident of Vijay Nagar in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar area, he was arrested from Dwarka Feb 22. He is currently in judicial custody. During the interrogation of all the accused, police said that they had got links about some more corporate sectors who were the beneficiaries of these stolen documents. However, they said the documents were stolen from petroleum, coal and power ministries, and nothing was stolen from the defence and environment ministries. "In our investigation, we don't have any link about the stealing of documents from the defence and environment ministries...but we got some information that there are some more corporate houses who benefit from these stolen documents," said Delhi Police chief B.S.
Bassi. Bassi added: "Till now they don't have any links with any senior ministry official." Sources added that both used to provide documents to Sharma and Prayas Jain, an employee of Melbourne-based Metis Energy Consulting and Research Services. Jain is in judicial custody till March 6. Sources said adding that police would seek custody of both for questioning. So far, 16 people, including Nagpal and Kumar, have been arrested and Delhi Police have registered two FIRs in connection with the leak of classified documents related to various ministries, including coal, petroleum and natural gas, and power. Nagpal and Kumar's names are mentioned in the second FIR which was registered Feb 20.
India-Russia relationship has huge untapped potential: President New Delhi (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee Thursday said the economic dimension of bilateral relationship between India and Russia has "huge untapped potential". In an interaction with visiting Russian State Duma Chairman Sergey Naryshkin at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mukherjee said the Indian-Russian strategic partnership has a long illustrious history. "Over the years, we have steadily developed the special and privileged strategic partnership which reflects the breadth and depth of cooperation between our two countries. "We believe that economic dimension of our bilateral relationship has huge untapped potential," he said. Noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India in December 2014 was a "landmark event", Mukherjee said the "understandings" between the two nations have helped to expand partnership in a number of new areas. "India is fully committed to developing and deepening the strategic partnership with Russia in diverse areas," he said. Responding to Mukherjee, Naryshkin said the friendship between India and Russia has grown over various decades and sought India's participation in the 70th anniversary celebrations of Victory Day, marking the end of the Second World War, in Russia.

Sarah has 'piggy bank' of inspirations for music FROM being a former Miss World contestant, Sarah Jane Dias tiptoed into Bollywood with "Game" and she has now launched her debut music track. She equates music to a "piggy bank", where she kept adding "pennies" in the form of inspirations year after year. "Music has been my inspiration for a very long time. It's kind of like a growing inspiration through my whole life. My friends have been my inspiration, my family has been my inspiration, my work and my experiences (have inspired my music). "It's like a piggy bank, you
keep putting pennies into it year after year, that's what my music is like," the 32-year-old actress told IANS in an interview. Her single "Forget to be me", was launched Feb 13. Its video features Arunadoy Singh, VJ Bani and Sapna Bhavnani in the video, who are also among Sarah's close friends. The song was co-written by Sarah and is about heartbreak. Sarah admits she was "quite shy" about singing initially, but training hard and joining a music school gave her the "final push". "I felt like I needed to train a
No film sequel pattern for Shraddha
ACTRESS Shraddha Kapoor seems to have turned into a reigning queen of sequels in Bollywood with films like "ABCD 2", "Rock On 2" in her kitty. But the actress says there is no particular
pattern she follows while choosing films, but just looks for good scripts. "I did not realise this pattern, but I feel extremely fortunate to be working with such talented people and being a part of such good scripts," Shraddha said in a statement. After failure in "Teen Patti" and "Luv Ka the End", the actress rose to fame with romantic film "Aashiqui 2" in 2013, sequel of the 1990 movie "Aashiqui". Shraddha has been paired with Varun Dhawan for the first time for the sequel of Remo D'Souza's dance film "ABCD: Anybody Can Dance". And Shraddha will be seen sharing screen space with Farhan Akhtar in the sequel of rock musical "Rock On!!" The actress has carved a niche for herself in the film industry with her performance in films like "Ek Villain" and "Haider". She has also showcased her dancing skills in songs like "Dance Basanti". lot more which I now have and I went to music school as well for three months. Now I feel more confident. I was shy because it's such a personal experience. You need that extra push and that confidence which I think now, after working in the industry for so many years, I've gained. But initially, I was quite shy about it," she said. Although she is looking forward to two of her films that are releasing this year -"Zubaan" and "Angry Indian Goddesses" -- Sarah also plans to release more of her music soon.
Apart from her singing, Sarah also has a 'never say no' attitude in life, which has helped her in keeping busy and exploring new things -- like being a yoga instructor. "I generally make my decision based upon where I am at that point of my life, so I never really say 'no' to anything," she said. Giving a hint about her upcoming musical work, she added: "I have more songs to work on, more videos to work on and another film to start. I can't complain, I'm going to do a teacher's training course in yoga soon." (IANS)
'Piku' to be promoted in unusual manner, says Big B MEGASTAR Amitabh Bachchan, who surprises his fans with each film, says "unusual works" will back his next movie "Piku". “The shoot for the PR of ‘Piku’ has begun and there are some most unusual works being done. Today we were a part of it along with Deepika (Padukone) and Irrfan (Khan). Unfortunately, I am not permitted to expose them here, but may I just say that they all look rather unusual and hilarious,” the 72-year-old wrote on his official blog srbachchan.tumblr.com Monday. Big B will be seen playing the role of Deepika's father in the film, which is directed by Shoojit Sircar, and majorly shot in Kolkata. Meanwhile, remembering the shooting days of 1976 drama-thriller film “Do Anjaane”, Amitabh also posted a black and white photograph in which he is shooting for the song “Luk chup luk chup”. “This is Calcutta 1975 and the shooting of a delightful film ‘Do Anjaane’. ‘Deewar’ had just released the previous day of travel to the city and the reception at Grand Hotel and the city was phenomenal...getting in and out of the
Hotel was an army operation,” he wrote. “This moment was the shooting of a song 'Luk chup luk chup jaao naa...’ with the little kid. It was shot at the famous Botanical Gardens across the river Hoogly," he added. Big B says he used to carry a camera with him to capture moments on shootings. In the photograph, he is seen clicking the crowd on the other side of the lake. (IANS)

Only filmmakers, audience must decide films' content: Dibakar DIBAKAR Banerjee says that decisions regarding a movie's content should be left to the filmmakers and the audience, and that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) should only be entrusted with certifying movies appropriately. "The issue will resolve only when the people who watch
films and who make films will come together and say, 'Let us decide what we want to see and what we'll make'. You (Censor Board) just decide that the film should be watched by this age group or under this age group," said the "Shanghai" filmmaker. Banerjee spoke on the sidelines of an event, where three
books based on screenplays of the late Guru Dutt's productions, were launched. Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra too was present at the event. He slammed CBFC for recently issuing a list of words, which filmmakers cannot use in their movies. He says it's ridiculous and senseless.
"If there is any film which have such words, then make it adult (certified). How it is possible that a filmmaker will not use these words? According to me, it's ridiculous and senseless thing to say people you can't say this (in films)," he said. The "PK" producer also said the Censor Board authorities
should not misuse their power. "The more power you'll (government) give them, the more they will (Censor Board members) misuse. Their power should be simple...they should certify films -- like under 12, under 16, under 18, adult," he said. (IANS)
Will continue to do films after marriage: Soha Ali Khan ACTRESS Soha Ali Khan, who tied the knot with Kunal Khemu on Jan 25 this year, says she'll not take a break and would continue to do films even after marriage. Soha was present at a promotional event here when she was asked if the audience would see her in films after marriage.
To that she said: "Yes, yes, of course you'll see me in films. Film 'October 3st' is in post production now...we have wrapped up the shooting." "In few day's I'll start shooting for 'Ghayal once again'. It will be a action-packed, great fun movie. I'll get a chance to work with Sunny sir (Sunny Deol) in
it. So, I'm really looking forward to it." she added. Soha further expressed her desire to share screen space with her husband Kunal Khemu. "We have already done two films together...Obviously... I believe Kunal (Kunal Khemu) is a great actor and it will be fun
working with him. Also we'll get a chance to spend some time together (while working). But the script should be special. We have not got the special script yet," Soha said. Directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil, "October 31st" also stars Vir Das in the lead. (IANS)

IOC chief praises Rio 2016 preparations Rio de Janeiro (IANS): The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has praised the state of preparations for South America's first Olympic Games to be staged in Rio de Janeiro
next year. The endorsement comes despite delays to a planned new metro line and concerns about the quality of water at the Guanabara Bay sailing venue, reported Xinhua.
"I am very satisfied," IOC president Thomas Bach told media Tuesday. Earlier, Bach met Brazil President Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia. He is also due to meet the IOC's execu-
tive committee. Bach's comments come less than a year after IOC vice president John Coates described the Games' preparations as the "worst" he had ever seen.
Rio mayor Eduardo Paes said the focus of planning was now geared towards the running of the event to be held from Aug 5-21 next year. "We are now talking
about the operation of the city - how to take care of the event itself which is a totally different matter," Paes said. "I am very optimistic. I think things are moving very well."
Tendulkar, Gayle choose same day for ODI double ton! Canberra (IANS): While their batting styles may not be similar, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and West Indies' devastating opener Chris Gayle chose the same day -Feb 24 -- to score their respective One-Day International (ODI) double-centuries. If on Feb 24, 2010, Tendulkar entered the records books by hitting the first ever ODI double-hundred, exactly five years on, Gayle slammed a 147-ball 215 to score the World Cup's first
and only double-ton Tuesday. The coincidence does not end only with the day, both batsmen ended up playing exactly the same number of deliveries -- 147. The coincidence has caught the imagination of cricket buffs with many of them taking to social networking sites to spread the information -- and quite a few calling Gayle's effort as a tribute to Tendulkar. Gayle's majestic innings against Zimbabwe in a Pool B
clash at the Manuka Oval here made him the only nonIndian in the 200-plus club. The southpaw is now also the only player to score a 300 in Tests, 200 in ODIs, and 100 in Twenty20s. The others in the ODI double-ton club are swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, who besides achieving the feat twice also holds the record for the highest individual score with an incredible 264 against Sri Lanka last year.
Indian women's hockey team beats Germany 2-1 Valencia (IANS): In a hard fought match here, the Indian women's hockey team emerged victorious 2-1 over Germany in what was the last match of their tour of Spain. Both teams started cautiously Sunday evening as neither wanted to give the initial edge to the other. The teams made attempts to strike but their efforts went in vain as the first half ended 0-0.
It was Deepika who opened the scoring to help India surge ahead in the 40th minute by converting a field goal. Germany did not sit back and pressed hard in search of an equaliser but India displayed some spectacular stick work to dominate and keep possession. It was through the stick of Amandeep Singh, who converted a penalty corner in the
55th minute, giving India a 2-0 lead. Germany’s Marie Mavers finally broke the shackles and slapped the ball towards the nets to pump in their lone goal in the 59th minute. Unable to add further, the game ended in favour of India. The matches were in preparation for the World League Round 2 to be held in New Delhi from March 7 to 15.

Pakistan school books to have Quranic verses against corruption Islamabad (IANS): The textbook board of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has incorporated some verses of the holy Quran, Hadith and wise sayings on the inner titles of the school books to discourage corruption and promote harmony in the society, media reported Monday. The move is aimed at scaling up awareness about the evil of corruption in society, Dawn
online reported. The verse number 10 of the Quran's Surah Al-Hujrat stressing unity among Muslims has also been included on the inner titles of the books which states: “Muslims are brothers, therefore make peace between the two brothers and fear Allah so that the mercy may be shown to you. By including this verse the authorities intend to discourage
sectarianism in the society. Such verses and holy sayings would be part of books from grade 1 to grade 12 to discourage corruption and sectarianism, sources said, adding that the books had been published and would be distributed among students from the academic year starting from coming April. They said that the board had taken the decision to include verses and sayings of the holy
Prophet with the consultation of the National Accountability Bureau and Directorate of Curricula and Teachers Education. They said that these verses would replace earlier such material against militancy and in favour of peace incorporated in textbooks by the previous government. Over 100 messages against corruption from the holy Quran,
Hadith and wise sayings have been mentioned on the titles of the books. The sources said that the verses of the holy Quran about unity among Muslims would help reduce the gap between different schools of thought in the society. It would also help in reducing hatred among different sects, which was one of the reasons of unrest in the country, they said.
IS serious threat to Pakistan: Foreign secretary Islamabad (IANS): Shortly after Pakistan Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan denied the presence of the Islamic State (IS) in South Asia, particularly Pakistan, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry has said the militant group poses a serious threat to the country. "The government is on alert to the IS threat in the region," Chaudhry said while briefing the Senate Standing Committee
on Foreign Affairs Monday, Pakistan Today reported Tuesday. He said the government has directed all authorities concerned to ensure that no organisation or individual gets in contact with the IS in the country. A bipartisan parliamentary panel discussed the potential threat posed by the IS to Pakistan amid reports that the ruthless militant outfit was seeking a foothold in the coun-
try. However, Chaudhry clarified Pakistan has no desire to become part of the international coalition against IS. The government has long denied the presence of the militant group in the country. "As of now, I can say with confidence that the IS only exists in the Middle East," Nisar said while speaking at the US Institute of Peace in Washington Thursday.
"It absolutely has no presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan." He said that the terrorist space in South Asia was totally occupied, however, if the issues were not addressed, a grand alliance between different groups could not be ruled out in the future. Last year as well, the interior minister had quashed speculation about the presence of the militant group.
However, wall chalkings in favour of the militant group have earlier appeared in major cities, including Lahore, Quetta and Karachi. Earlier, splits within the Taliban, and doubts over whether its elusive leader is even alive, were said to be driving a growing number of militant commanders in Afghanistan and Pakistan towards the IS for inspiration.
Nawaz discusses Xi Jinping's visit with Raheel Islamabad (IANS): Pakistan Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif Tuesday met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House here and discussed Chinese President Xi Jinping's forthcoming visit to Pakistan and the internal security situation of the country. On Monday, Gen. Sharif met Chinese ambassador to Pakistan
Sun Weidong at the army's General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, and discussed the security aspects of Xi's visit, Dawn reported. Gen. Sharif also briefed the prime minister about the arrests made by the security forces in connection with the Dec 16 Taliban attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar, in which
over 140 school children and staff were killed. Security forces in an intelligence-based operation Monday arrested Taj Muhammad alias Rizwan, who was one of the primary executors of the Taliban attack on the school. Earlier, the army claimed to have made key arrests in connection with the school attack and
said that all those involved, except six suspects, had either been killed or captured. "The gang involved in the school attack comprised of 27 terrorists, 12 of whom have been arrested in Pakistan and Afghanistan, nine have been killed and six are at large," an army statement said.

All–new 2015 Ford Mustang: New Look, New technology The next chapter in the life of the iconic pony car begins as the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, loaded with innovative technologies and delivering worldclass levels of performance, was simultaneously revealed around the globe in six cities on four different continents. Mustang’s impact goes well beyond the 9 million-plus cars sold during its 50 years of continuous production. It is the world’s most-liked vehicle on Facebook, with thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games. For the first time ever, Ford will bring Mustang to customers in key parts of Europe and Asia. The clean-sheet design of both Mustang fastback and convertible evokes the essential character of the brand, retaining key design elements including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck with a contemporary execution. “You only get one chance to make a first impression and when you see this car, you immediately see a Mustang strong and true,” said Moray Callum, Ford executive director, design, The Americas. Several key design features define the all-new Mustang, including: A lower, wider stance with a reduction in roof height, wider rear fenders and track width, The return of Mustang fastback with a sleeker profile enabled by more steeply sloped windshield and rear glass, Three-dimensional, tri-bar tail lamps with sequential turn signals, Contemporary
execution of the signature shark-bite front fascia and trapezoidal grille. Mustang convertible drivers will appreciate the standard multilayer insulated cloth top that gives the car a more upscale appearance and a quieter cabin. The new top lowers twice as fast as before, and has a sleeker profile when folded for open-air motoring. The information and controls that an active driver needs are all readily accessible in the aviation-inspired cockpit, which is executed with the highest degree of craftsmanship ever found in a Mustang. Large, clear instrumentation that puts vehicle information right in front of the driver in the roomier cabin while improved ergonomics and tactile switches and knobs provide better control. sions. The Mustang EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging to deliver plenty of usable performance and projected segment-leading fuel efficiency. A unique intake manifold and turbocharger housing enable it to deliver the
performance Mustang drivers expect with output projected at more than 305 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. With at least 300 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque on tap from the standard 3.7-litre V6, even the most accessible Mustang delivers the performance customers expect. Mustang features all-new front and rear suspension systems. At the front, a new perimeter subframe helps to stiffen the front structure while reducing mass, providing a better foundation for more predictable wheel control that benefits handling, steering and ride. At the rear is an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension. The geometry, springs, dampers and bushings all have been specifically modified and tuned for this high-performance application. New aluminum rear knuckles help reduce unsprung mass for improved ride and handling.

LED daytime running lights and taillights, plus available 20-inch wheels and a first-ever Panoramic Roof option. The exceptional quality of the new Pilot carries over to the interior, where designers have applied high-quality, soft- touch materials throughout the cabin and added thoughtful details such as LED map lighting. Additional quality features include standard heated and available ventilated front seats, an available heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats. For the first time, upper trim Pilot models will have second-row captain’s chairs, providing for easy walk through between the second and third rows, in addition to the standard second-row three-person 60/40 split seat for 8-passenger seating capacity on all other trims. The new Pilot delivers the connectivity and power access that the modern family demands, including up to five USB ports, four that provide better recharging with 2.5-amp output, to charge iPads or smartphones while in use. Additional ports and plugs include an auxil-
iary jack for nearly any audio player, an HDMI port for a gaming console, two headphone jacks, two 12-volt power outlets and a 115-volt outlet to power just about anything. The new Pilot builds on its reputation for bestin-class interior space, versatility and utility with 90 mm of added vehicle length, enabling a larger cargo area that can hold a 78 L (82 quart) cooler without compromising third-row seating capability, a segment-exclusive feature. Third-row entry and exit is made even easier and more intuitive courtesy of an available one-touch walk-in second-row seat that slides and tilts to its forward-most position at the touch of a button. The 2016 Pilot delivers more refined, powerful and fuel-efficient performance than ever before courtesy of its new 3.5-litre, directinjected i-VTEC® V-6
engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™) cylinder deactivation technology. For improved fuel efficiency, the Pilot will include available Idle Stop technology that shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped, instantly and smoothly restarting the engine when the driver lifts his or her foot off the brake pedal. The new engine is mated to one of two advanced new transmissions – a Pilotfirst 6-speed automatic transmission, or on the upper trim, a Honda- first 9-speed automatic transmission – both delivering notably refined, responsive and fuel-efficient performance. The new Pilot will be available in front-wheel and allwheel-drive configurations and will feature a completely new Honda all-wheel-drive system that delivers even more confident, efficient and dynamic all-weather performance.
