Shah Rukh Khan appointed Interpol ‘Turn Back Crime’ ambassador
GUARANTEED Absolute Lowest Prices !
Lyon (France) (IANS): Internationallyrenowned Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in as an ambassador for Interpol's "Turn Back Crime" campaign to promote awareness on how everyone can play a role in preventing crime. SRK, said to be the first Indian to be made an ambassador for the global campaign, is lending his voice to help spread the message that all of society benefits when citizens respect law and fight crime. "It's a very special honour to be a part of Interpol's Turn Back Crime campaign as an ambassador," said Shah Rukh. "As Mahatma Gandhi once said, 'I shall not fear anyone on Earth. I shall fear only god. I shall not bear ill will toward anyone. I shall not submit to injustice from anyone. I shall conquer untruth by truth. And in resisting untruth, I shall put up with all suffering, if I have to. "We all should believe in this maxim and in whatever way possible resolve not to let unjust people who might threaten

"Because I believe we can, we should, and we must stand together against the few who commit crimes against any human being, in whatever form or guise these crimes might take," Shah Rukh said in a statement. SRK joins actor Jackie Chan as an ambassador for the campaign, which has already garnered support from public figures including footballer Lionel Messi, Formula 1 racing drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen in addition to law enforcement agencies around the world. Interpol's Turn Back Crime campaign is aimed at raising public awareness that organised crime is often involved in seemingly unrelated crimes. Drug trafficking, human trafficking, counterfeiting, cyber crime, kidnapping, crimes against children and corruption in sport are in fact often interconnected, with profits from one crime area used to fund another. The Turn Back Crime campaign is
aimed at helping the public better understand these issues and empowering them not to be duped by criminals when buying products or using the internet. "Shah Rukh Khan has dedicated his life to making films which reflect the highest level of professionalism and commitment to bringing joy into the lives of hundreds of millions of filmgoers in India and around the world," said Interpol secretary g e n e r a l Ronald K. Noble. " We a r e honoured to have h i m a s a n ambassador for Interpol's global Turn Back Crime campaign and we look forward to seeing how he puts his artistic talents behind this campaign," the Interpol chief said.

BJP leaders named governors, Sheila Dikshit resigns
New Delhi (IANS): Four prominent BJP leaders were Tuesday named governors of Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa on a day Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit succumbed to pressure and put in her papers. While former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh was named governor of Rajasthan, Gujarat assembly speaker Vajubhai Radabhai Vala took charge of Karnataka and Mridula Sinha, a leading writer, moved to Goa. C. Vidyasagar Rao from Telangana will take charge in election-bound Maharashtra. Kalyan Singh succeeds
Margaret Alva whose tenure ended Aug 5. Vala took the place of H.R. Bharadwaj, who retired in June, while B.V. Wanchoo and K. Sankaranarayanan quit as governors of Goa and Maharashtra respectively. The 82-year-old Kalyan Singh is a veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader who led the Uttar Pradesh government when the Babri Masjid was razed in 1992. A committed activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Kalyan Singh parted ways with the BJP following differences with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He returned to the party just before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Vala, 76, is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He began his political career with the erstwhile Jana Sangh. At one time, he was a contender for the post of Gujarat chief minister. Mridula Sinha is a well known writer in Hindi, and is a former national president of the BJP's Mahila Morcha. She is also a former chairperson of the National Commission for Women. Hailing from Karimnagar district of Telangana, Vidyasagar
Mystery shrouds death of three missing schoolboys
Palghar (Maharashtra) (IANS): Mystery shrouds the death of three missing students of a prominent residential school here whose bodies were found floating in a flooded drain Wednesday. The students - studying in Class IX - of the Gurukul International School in Vagad near Virar had been reported missing since Monday, after they reportedly failed to perform upto expectations in the exams, police said Wednesday. The trio, identified as Meet S. Dhadvi, Praful N. Patel and Kushal N. Dadha, belonging to business families in Mumbai, were last

seen near the busy Manor area on the MumbaiAhmedabad highway Monday. Police confirmed that the school authorities had lodged a missing persons complaint about the three boys - all aged 14 years later that day. According to preliminary investigations, police have learnt that the trio had scored low marks in their examinations and were scolded and punished by a couple of teachers. This may have prompted them to sneak out of the school campus, but the discovery of the bodies, bloated after having remained in
the water for several hours, continues to baffle police, who have registered an 'accidental death' case. The bodies have been sent for an autopsy and its outcome could give a fresh direction to police investigation. Meanwhile, a school management official said strict action would be taken against the teachers if any of them are found guilty. In a related development, scores of anxious parents of other students rushed to the school from Mumbai and other places today to check on the well being of their wards.

Politics of jeering: Is it countdown to assembly elections? New Delhi (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi faces the first big political challenge of his three month-old government over heckling of
opposition chief ministers of poll-bound states at his official events with the issue threatening to turn into a major controversy and souring relations between BJP and other parties. Congress chief ministers have signalled their unwillingness to share the stage with Modi at official functions unless there was a change in the attitude of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. The heckling of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren during an event Thursday in the presence of Modi had an ugly fallout with BJP and JMM activists clashing Saturday near the Ranchi airport leading to injuries to some people. After the heckling incident, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, which heads a coalition government in the state, had said it will not allow the entry of any central minister into the state. of Modi, riled the Congress and its chief minister in Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan, Thursday skipped the function for the laying of the foundation stone of the Nagpur metro rail project by Modi. Political analysts said that Modi should have intervened effectively to prevent chief ministers from feeling slighted. He said Modi should have ensured that BJP elements in the crowd were disciplined. Nihal Singh said that jeering of chief ministers at successive events attended by a prime minister was "unprecedented." "In a federal system, the prime minister has to respect the highest elected office in a state," he said Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed said heckling of opposition chief ministers started in Jammu and Kashmir where Omar Abdullah faced a similar situation in the presence of Modi. Ahmed said "any selfrespecting chief minister will avoid attending public functions (with Modi)", except extending protocol courtesies. He also alleged that the booing of chief ministers was well planned and "orchestrated by Modi and his party." Party leader Capt Amarinder Singh accused Modi of being "silent" over hooting of chief ministers, saying it amounted to "consent". Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal also deplored the hooting incidents and called
them "unhealthy" and an "undemocratic" practice. Badal's Shiromani Akali Dal is part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. Modi on Friday sought to reach out to the Congress and invited Hooda for tea at his official residence in the national capital. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Modi's tea invitation to Hooda was "a very good gesture" and the party had respect for all chief ministers. However, he said that people have a democratic right to dissent and hooting was a form of dissent. "People have jeered due to non-performance (of chief ministers). Rather than complain, they should introspect why they were hooted and not adopt a posture of confrontation," Patra told IANS. He said Modi had gesticulated to the people to stop hooting at functions in Haryana and Jharkhand and accused the Congress of being adamant. "They boycotted Modi even before (general) elections. They are trying to do the same now," he said. "The prime minister has spoken of Team India and of working in unison with states.” With Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir going to the polls in the next few months, many fear that confrontation might only intensify between the government and the opposition.
India, Pakistan hold flag meet to defuse border tension Jammu (IANS); India and Pakistan Wednesday held a flag meeting on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir to defuse tension between the two countries. The commander-level flag meeting between Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers was held at Nikowal post in Akhnoor sector of the international border in Jammu district at 3 p.m. Wednesday,
BSF sources told IANS in Jammu. "BSF lodged a formal protest with Pakistan Rangers over ceasefire violations, firing and shelling on border outposts and civilian areas by them during the past 45 days in which two people have been killed and 17 others injured," BSF sources said. The BSF team is believed to have given Pakistan Rangers proof of their involvement in the firing and shelling
on civilian areas in Arnia, R.S. Pura, Ramgarh, Akhnoor and Kanachak forward areas along the international border in Jammu and Samba districts. It must be mentioned that over 3,000 villagers living in areas close to the border have been lodged in government accommodations in the two districts.

Indian scientists find a 'wonder herb' in the high Himalayas Leh (IANS): In the high hostile peaks of the Himalayas where sustaining life is a challenge in itself, Indian scientists say they have found a "wonder herb" which can regulate the immune system, help adapt to the mountain environment and, above all, protect from radioactivity.
Rhodiola, a herb found in the cold and highland climate, has led India's leading scientists to wonder if it is the end to the quest for "Sanjeevani", the mythical herb that gave renewed life to Ram's brother Lakshman in the epic Ramayana. Locally called 'Solo' in Ladakh, the qualities of Rhodiola were largely unknown so far. The leafy parts of the plant were used as vegetable by locals. However, research by the Leh-based Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) is exploring the therapeutic values of the herb that shows it can do wonders for the troops posted in dif-
ficult high altitude areas like the 5,400-metres-high Siachen glacier. "Rhodiola is a wonder plant that has immunomodulatory (enhancing immune), adaptogenic (adapting to difficult climatic condition) and radio-protecting abilities due to presence of secondary metabolites and
phytoactive compounds unique to the plant," R.B. Srivastava, Director, DIHAR, told IANS. Srivastava said the herb can mitigate the effects of gamma radiation used in bombs in biochemical warfare. "A concerted effort involving conservation, propagation and sustainable utilisation of this unique medicinal herb will surely result in rediscovery of Sanjeevani for the troops deployed in extreme climatic condition along Himalayan frontiers," said the director. The Leh-based lab of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the world's high-
est agro-animal research laboratory, has been researching on this wonder plant for more than a decade. "While its adaptogenic qualities can help the soldiers in adjusting to the low pressure-low oxygen environment, the plant has also been found to have antidepressant and appetizer properties," said Srivastava. In the barren glacier of Siachen where white is the only colour visible for miles, depression is a problem troops face. The high altitude and harsh climate also make them lose appetite. DIHAR has already developed Herbal Adaptogenic Appetizer, and Herbal Adaptogenic Performance Enhancer that improves performance in extreme high altitude conditions, and has been highly appreciated by the Army. Rhodiola is also found in other parts of the world with other countries like the US and China engaging in research on the wonder herb. The plant has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to combat high-altitude sickness, while in Mongolia physicians prescribed it for tuberculosis and cancer. Researchers in Russia studied its impact on athletes and later on cosmonauts. Some other qualities the

Respond to Canada’s need for immigrants.
London (IANS): British Indian MP Seema Malhotra has been appointed the first ever shadow minister tasked with tackling violence against women in Britain, Opposition leader Ed Miliband announced. Seema Malhotra, 42, who will join Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper's front bench team, will champion the needs of all victims of rape, domestic and sexual violence, as well as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), forced marriage, trafficking and prostitution, a statement on the Labour Party website said Monday. Commenting on her appointment,
Malhotra said, "It is significant that Labour has made this issue such a priority and I look forward to working with colleagues to try and make a real difference to women who have experienced huge trauma in their lives." Malhotra was elected Labour Co-operative Party MP for Feltham and Heston constituency in west London in December 2011. The former management consultant will also play an important role in shaping Labour's Women's Safety Commission to develop proposals for legislation to tackle violence against women and girls, which
will be prioritised if the Labour Party comes to power. "I am delighted that Seema has agreed to become Labour's first ever Shadow Minister for Preventing Violence against Women and Girls. She undoubtedly brings real expertise to this important role," Leader of the Labour Party Ed Miliband said. A shadow minister is a member of the main opposition party in Parliament who would hold ministerial office if their party were in power.

London (IANS): An 18-year-old British Indian boy has become Britain's brightest student after getting perfect fives in all major subjects with 100 percent score, a media report said. Asanish Kalyanasundaram, who hails from Lancahsire in northwest England, got the highest possible grades in maths, physics, chemistry, biology and critical thinking, as required at A-Levels in Britain, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
Kalyanasundaram, an aspiring surgeon, will be going to Cambridge University to study medicine in October. A spokesman for Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School said the teenager was one of the brightest pupils they have taught. Asanish received an A* grade in an Extended Project Qualification, following a 100-hour research topic and presentation after attending a summer school run
by the Nuffield Foundation, where he was able to work at the cutting edge of medical research. The talented student recently won the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award and will receive the award from Queen Elizabeth II's husband Prince Philip at St. James Palace in London in November. He has also been invited by Lancashire County Council to attend a reception for Gold Award winners.

West Indies cricket stars sign ownership deal for new Canadian T20
Toronto (IANS/CMC): Four of the biggest names from the West Indies cricket team have signed a deal making them coowners in the new Canadian Premier League T20 set for next year. They are one-day captain Dwayne Bravo, Test captain Denesh Ramdin, opening batsman Kieran Powell and former captain and veteran batsman
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, reports CMC. The deal arrives ahead of the countdown to the inaugural North American league tournament scheduled to commence Aug 1, next year. "I fully support the growth and development of international-calibre T20 cricket through the Canadian Premier League and the direction being taken by Roy Singh,
the League's founder and CEO," said Ramdin, recently appointed West Indies Test team captain. "Roy has the vision, determination and drive to make this league truly successful and sustainable and I am thrilled to be coming on board as part of such a pioneering venture for the North American market." The 10-team league will consist of professional
cricketers from around Canada, alongside global cricketing superstars from across the world,
league officials have confirmed. "The Canadian Premier League is already creat-
ing waves of excitement within the international cricketing community," said Powell.
Wrong to blame IPL for India's Test series loss: Pietersen
London (IANS): Discarded England batsman Kevin Pietersen came out in support of the much blamed Indian Premier League (IPL) saying the cash-rich Twenty20 league is like an academy for foreign players. Pietersen, who had IPL stints with Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore, said it was wrong to blame the IPL for India's humiliating 1-3 Test series loss in England. "England play an Indian side desperate to turn their tour around after a hammering in the Test series which has led to some commentators taking lazy potshots at the Indian Premier League. It is a cheap shot to blame the IPL and portray the young Indian player as being uncaring about Test cricket. I know Virat Kohli will be hurting and I know how happy Murali Vijay was to score a century at Trent Bridge and almost get another one at Lord's. It was a dream come true for all of them to play a Test at Lord's," Pietersen wrote in his column in The Daily Telegraph. The former England captain said it hurts these guys every single time they do not score Test runs. "The problem is they put too much pressure on themselves because they are so desperate to score Test hundreds, and sometimes that desire to be successful is detrimental to their game. For the foreign players the IPL is a fantastic learning academy. When we play international cricket in India the conditions are no longer alien to us. Some of us now have home grounds in India, we know the conditions and our opponents. For the Indian players it means they are colleagues and opponents of the best players in the world," he said. Pietersen said what is not helping India away from home in Test cricket is not the IPL but the lack of opportunities for playing cricket abroad, which is a huge negative in terms of progression outside India. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stopped its players appearing in Twenty20 competitions because it does not want to add broadcast value to tournaments that rival the IPL. Fine. But it has to loosen its stance on players appearing in first-class domestic competitions abroad if it wants to build a successful Test team. Send players away to spend time in county cricket or the southern hemisphere. "This does not apply just to batsmen. Indian bowlers need to learn the lengths they have to bowl in Australia, South Africa or England. The opportunities are there for every player. We would welcome them in England, they
just need to be encouraged to look beyond their home country," he said.

Over Rs.10 million spend likely to send Indian football team to Asiad New Delhi (IANS): The All India Football Federation (AIFF) may have to shell out a whopping Rs.11.5 million to send the U-23

Both the teams are expected to travel to Incheon directly from China. Ajit Sharan, secretary in the sports ministry, told IANS that they are awaiting a final recommendation from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on the status of the football team. "We are yet to take a final call and are awaiting final recommendations from SAI. We have set some rules and we will be taking past performances into account while sending teams for mega-events. For team sports, they have to finish among the top eight in Asia. The rules are simple and we have to follow it," Sharan told IANS here Tuesday. Tuesday to explore ways of sending the teams if the government doesn't clear it. "The sports ministry is yet to make a final decision but the AIFF can still send the team even if they are financed by the government. The teams will be cleared at 'no cost to government'. In that case the AIFF will have to spend approximately Rs.1i.5 million to send the two teams. We are still exploring options but we are hopeful that the team will be financed by the government," a top official of the AIFF told IANS. The men's team is ranked 26th while the women are ranked 11th in Asia. The men's team, which won the gold medal twice in 1951 and 1962, are currently ranked 150th in the world. They have been clubbed with the United Arab Emirates and Jordan in Group G and they have slim chances of qualifying to the round of 16. Two top teams for the eight groups will move into the next round. The under-23 team recently lost to arch-rivals Pakistan 0-2, which was their first defeat against the neighbours for the first time at home in 55 years. India have not done well under Wim Koevarmans, who is paid 17,000 euros (Rs.13.56 lakh) per month, ever since the Dutch took over in 2012. His only success was the Nehru Cup triumph in 2012 but what followed next was a string of losses. Under him, India, 2008 AFC Challenge Cup champions, failed to qualify for the 2014 edition and lost the 2013 SAFF Cup final to Afghanistan. The Dutchman's last assignment as the chief coach will be the Incheon Asian Games (Sep 19-Oct 4) and the contract is highly unlikely to be extended unless the team puts up an incredible performance. The AIFF is now planning to promote the 54-year-old Koevarmans as the technical director as his compatriot Rob Baan is unlikely to renew his contract that ends in December.

Union minister, had lost the Lok Sabha election to AAP’s Dharamvira Gandhi from Patiala. The by-election in Talwandi Sabo was a contest between Congress' Harminder Singh Jassi, SAD’s Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu and AAP’s Baljinder Kaur, while Balkar Singh, who was initially declared as AAP candidate, contested as Independent. Shiromani Akali Dal’s candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh, who had quit the Congress earlier this year, won the election by over
46,600 votes. He defeated his nearest rival Harminder Singh Jassi of the Congress.
The Times of India reported: "Three months after its spectacular showing in Lok Sabha polls, the BJP on Monday received a jolt in assembly byelections suffering a 4-6 defeat at the hands of the RJD-JD (U)-Congress alliance in Bihar and yielding two strongholds to Congress in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. ... Out of the 18 seats in four states for which bypolls were held on August 21, Congress and its allies won 10 while seven went to BJP and one to its ally SAD."
Badal seeks PM's intervention in Maharashtra Sikh shrine controversy Chandigarh (IANS): Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Tuesday sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restrain the Congress government in Maharashtra from going ahead with its decision to reduce the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) representation in the Takht Hazur Sahib board. The shrine, located at Nanded in Maharashtra, is one of the five Takhts (high religious seats) of the Sikh religion. In a letter to the prime minister, Badal said that the Maharashtra government's decision was "not an ordinary administrative decision as it concerned the sentiments and religious traditions of Sikh community". "This anti-Sikh decision was
a part of a deep-rooted conspiracy of the Congress to lower the dignity of Sikh religious institutions, including the Takht Sri Hazur Sahib and the SGPC," Badal alleged. Punjab's ruling Shiromani Akali Dal and the SGPC were locked in a bitter controversy with the Congress government in Haryana recently over the setting up of a new Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC) to manage Sikh shrines in Haryana. Badal urged Modi to direct the Maharashtra government to prevent the situation from getting worse. "The Government of India (GoI) should take appropriate measures for refraining the Maharashtra government from going ahead with this unwarranted dangerous move," he stressed.
Virtually alleging a conspiracy by the Maharashtra government, Badal said that the shrine board for the Takht was set up in 1956 through a legislative act and there had been no problem with it in the past 58 years. "The other curious aspect of the decision is that while the number of members of the board has been increased from 17 to 21, the number of representatives of the SGPC, the apex elected religious body of the Sikhs, has been curtailed from four to one. This is not only illogical but also prima facie mischievous," he contended. Noting that the number of the Maharashtra government nominees on the board had been doubled, Badal alleged that the whole move seemed to be to weaken the SGPC and the Sikh community.

Analysis: AAP loses way, deposit in Punjab Chandigarh (IANS): When almost the entire country rejected the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the parliamentary elections, Punjab went against the tide and gave the newborn party its electoral debut in the Lok Sabha with four seats. The same AAP was Monday summarily rejected by the electorate in the byelections for two assembly seats in Punjab. On both seats, the AAP even failed to put up a fight to the main contenders. The party and its candidates not only meekly surrendered but lost their security deposits too. This has put a big question mark on the political future of AAP in Punjab. While the Congress retained the Patiala assembly seat through its candidate Preneet Kaur, former union minister of state for external affairs and wife of former chief
minister Amarinder Singh, the Talwandi Sabo assembly seat in Bathinda district of southwest Punjab went to ruling Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh. The AAP candidate in the Patiala seat, Harjeet Singh, could manage just about 5,700 votes and lost his security deposit. Preneet Kaur won by 23,282 votes against her Akali Dal rival Bhagwan Dass Juneja, a social worker. The Akali Dal chose a Hindu candidate for the seat to break the hold of Amarinder Singh's family, the erstwhile royals of Patiala. The AAP party's candidate Dharamvira Gandhi, a cardiologist, won the recent Lok Sabha polls from the Patiala parliamentary constituency by over 20,000 votes. He defeated Preneet Kaur, a three-time MP from this seat, and the Akali Dal candidate.
But in the by-election in Patiala, the voters completely rejected the AAP. In the Lok Sabha polls, the AAP had got over 34,000 votes from the same assembly segment. In just three months, the AAP tally came down to less than 6,000 - clearly indicating that voters were disillusioned with the way the party was doing things at the national level and also in Punjab. In May this year, voters in Punjab had elected for AAP candidates to the Lok Sabha. These included comedianactor Bhagwant Mann (Sangrur), Sadhu Singh (Faridkot), Harinder Singh Khalsa (Fatehgarh Sahib) and Dharamvira Gandhi (Patiala). Mann won by the biggest margin in Punjab - nearly 2.12 lakh votes, while Sadhu Singh won by over 1.72 lakh votes. For the Talwandi Sabo seat, the AAP created controversy
over naming of its candidate. It first announced singer Balkar Singh as candidate but changed him soon after with Baljinder Kaur. An upset Balkar Singh contested the bypoll as an independent candidate. Both lost their security deposits Monday.

ChaiTime 10 Benefits of Lemon Juice You Never Knew 1. It’s crazy high in vitamin C Sure, you might already know that lemon has vitamin C, but do you know how much? Interesting fact for all you history buffs: for gold miners in the mid-19th century, lemons were practically gold themselves. In fact, they cost a whopping one dollar each. That’s pretty pricy for a lemon now, so imagine how much that cost in 1849!
SUDOKU
Why were they so sought after? Because lemon juice has a ridiculously high amount of vitamin C, which could protect them from scurvy. Scurvy isn’t exactly a problem now, but it’s still essential to get your daily dose of vitamin C every day. One large lemon contains 45 mg of vitamin C (75% of your daily requirement). 2. It cures…everything
HOW TO PLAY: Digits 1 through 9 will appear once in each zone - one zone is an outlined 3x3 grid within the larger puzzle grid. There are nine zones in the puzzle. Do not enter a digit into a box if it already appears elsewhere in the same zone, row across or column down the entire puzzle. Solve Time: Under 13 min. - Genius; 13-17 min - Scholar; 17-21 min - Smart; 21-25 min - Not bad; 25+ min - Keep practising DIFFICULTY LEVEL : MEDIUM
Well, maybe not everything. But lemons juice does help treat swine flu, the common cold, the flu, kidney stones, and even ringing in the ears. Vitamin C can strengthen your immune system and keep other illnesses at bay…and, well, you already know how much vitamin C is in a lemon! 3. It helps you concentrate (no pun intended) According to fitness and nutrition
expert Jay Cardiello, the mere scent of lemon oil can actually improve your concentration and increase your alertness. If you really need to concentrate on something, try boiling some lemon juice mixed with water on your stove for an extra boost.
your face initially, but try it out for a few weeks and watch your skin glow. According to The Dr. Oz Show, you can also combine a cup of milk, two teaspoons of lemon juice, and one tablespoon of brandy for a great face mask.
4. It’s a natural highlighter for the hair
Tiesha D. Johnson, RN, explains that lemons can be used to help you sleep, sooth your stress, and even help those suffering from anxiety.
Who says lemon only has health benefits? It has beauty benefits, too! When I was a kid, my mom always used to squeeze lemon juice in my hair before I went out on the beach. After a day in the sun, bam! Beautiful highlights. Try it out – it really works! 5. It can prevent kidney stones
7. Makes you relaaaaax
8. Helps you….um, go According to Dr. Oz, all those antibacterial properties in lemon juice helps your stomach process and digest, which is great for stomach pain, but also helps constipation.
Anybody who’s ever had a kidney stone knows that they’re pretty much the worst thing that can ever happen to you. If you’ve had them before (or even if you haven’t), start adding lemon juice to your daily diet. One half-cup of pure lemon juice per day will do the trick.
Try combining one cup hot water, ¼ lemon, and one teaspoon of ground flax seed…then mix like crazy and drink. Might not be the tastiest beverage you’ve ever had, but hey, it’ll help ya poop.
6. Makes your skin look amazing
Detoxes are all the rage these days, and for good reason. We consume so many toxins every day in normal foods and beverages we drink, which can affect our mood, performance, and health much more than you’d think. According to Dr. Mike Roussell, you should be skeptical about many detoxes out
Another beauty benefit: lemon has g r e a t a n t i b a c t e r i a l properties…meaning it can prevent acne and make your skin brighter and clearer! Plus, the citric acid can gradually lighten any pesky acne scars. You might feel a little weird smearing a big slice of lemon on
there – but lemon is a great detoxifier you can depend on. 10. Helps you lose weight…faster! If you add lemon juice to your water and drink it regularly, you’ll lose weight. Sounds like one of those fake, crazy health myths, doesn’t it? Good news: it’s not! Firstly, lemon juice has practically no calories, so that’s pretty great. But it goes deeper than that. We’ve already determined that lemon water helps clean out your digestive tract well, but it also reduces hunger cravings because of pectin fiber. You don’t really need to know what that is – just know that it helps you stop craving those really unhealthy cookies in your cabinet.

No public-dealing posts in Punjab for graft-tainted Chandigarh (IANS): The Punjab government has ordered that any official facing a corruption case under the state vigilance bureau should not be posted on a public dealing post till the matter is finally decided, a spokesman said here Tuesday. "Departments have been instructed not to depute such employees on any public dealing post till the graft case is decided and the employee has been exonerated by the court.
"Deputing such undertrial employees on public dealing posts could cast adverse effect in the eyes of the public, besides disseminating wrong message among the other employees of the department," the spokesman said. The government also directed all departments to refrain from deputing an employee on the same post, where he has been nabbed by the vigilance bureau in a graft case. "It has come to the notice of
the government that some departments depute undertrial employees on the same posts where they were nabbed by the vigilance bureau redhanded in graft case. "In such cases, the employee could tamper with official documents and exercise his influence over the complainant and official witnesses pertaining to his graft case," said a spokesman of the vigilance department.
Double blow for Akali Dal candidate Patiala (Punjab) (IANS): It was a double blow for Shiromani Akali Dal's Patiala assembly by-poll candidate Bhagwan Dass Juneja when his eldest son died Sunday and he lost the election Monday. His son Gurpal Juneja, 43,
died of a severe cardiac arrest late Sunday night. He was cremated here Monday in the presence of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, ministers Bikram Majithia and Daljeet Singh Cheema along with hundreds of other mourners.
Former union minister Preneet Kaur defeated Bhagwan Dass, a social worker, in the by-election by over 23,200 votes. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal expressed grief over Gurpal's demise.

can seat three teenagers and the Sentra does have one roomiest trunks in this class. The rear seats feature a center armrest and flip forward in split arrangement, but not completely flat for extra cargo area. On the road the Sentra has a big car feel and ride with nice speed-sensitive steering. The cabin is quiet at high speeds and features a comfortable smooth ride in all situations with little road noise intrusion. The CTV transmission is adequate enough and motivates the Sentra very snappily. All 2014 Nissan Sentra models include Normal, Eco, and Sport modes for the drivetrain that change throttle response and transmission parameters whilst the Eco mode reduces the power the air-conditioning system draws from the engine. By the way the 2014 Sentra features a “smart” alternator that can disengage from the engine during acceleration to help improve fuel efficiency, and reengages during braking. Official fuel economy is rated at 7.5/5.5 City/Hwy L/100 km by Nissan. Low points are minor, the CVT by its very nature is not as fast or responsive as conventional transmissions- sacrificing performance for fuel economy. For more thrills perhaps the Sentra S base model with six speed manual would be a more exciting drive. Safety is good with such standard safety equipment in the Sentra as: front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, roof-mounted side-curtain bags, plus electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes. The Sentra also has e two full LATCH connectors in the back seat as well as three child-seat upper tether anchors. With a choice of wellequipped base to fully loaded models: a 130horsepower, 1.8-liter fourcylinder engine and an Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), the Sentra is an ideal fuel-efficient family commuter car you should take a look at. The big car Altima looks don’t hurt at all either. Well recommended. By Auto reviewman

All-New 2015 Ford Mustang offers impressive Power-to-Weight Ratios
The all-new 2015 Ford Mustang offers three powerful engines including a standard 300-horsepower V6, a brandnew 310-horsepower EcoBoost® or an upgraded 435-horsepower V8, for its customers. Each powerplant is available with either a manual or automatic transmission that makes the pony car a great allaround performer – no matter how the equipment is mixed and matched to suit any individual driving style. The fewer the pounds a car carries for every unit of horsepower generated by the engine, the quicker and nimbler it feels, making power-to-weight ratio a key measure of performance. A recent study by Autoblog of cars currently available in the U.S. market puts Mustang at the top of the charts in power-to-weight ratio for all three price categories a customer can specify. Mustang extends its lead further for 2015 with the EcoBoost-powered fastback now carrying fewer than 11.4 pounds per horsepower; Mustang GT has as few as 8.52 pounds per horsepower. The addition of a new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine brings turbocharging to the Mustang powertrain lineup. This engine was designed specifically for Mustang, to meet the needs of drivers looking for outstanding performance and fuel efficiency. The geometry of the EcoBoost intake manifold and turbocharger housing has been optimized to provide better breathing and higher output in Mustang. Producing 310 horsepower and 320 lb.ft. of torque, the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine fits the bill for a true Mustang powerplant – with the highest power density yet from a Ford engine. “This EcoBoost engine delivers the healthy output Mustang drivers expect, regardless of the car’s speed,” said Scott Makowski, EcoBoost powertrain engineering manager. “It delivers where a Mustang driver expects it to – with a broad, flat torque curve and great driveability under any conditions.” The newest member of Ford’s global EcoBoost engine family, the 2.3-litre continues to take advantage of state-ofthe-art technologies including direct fuel injection, twin independent variable camshaft timing and turbocharging to produce big-engine power and torque with improved fuel efficiency. No Ford Mustang engine lineup would be complete without a great V8 engine at its core. The 5.0-litre V8 powers into a new generation with a host of upgrades that help it breathe better, especially at higher engine speeds. Many of these changes are derived from lessons learned in developing the special-edition 2012 Mustang Boss 302. The manual has a new shift linkage design for easier engagement and improved precision. The shift lever is now positioned closer to the driver and away from the cupholders, creating a clear path for shifting. Mustang blends outstanding allaround performance and everyday
usability. Drivers who prefer to let the car handle the shifting during their daily work run, but who still want to take control when the roads get twisty, will
mission. The automatic also features a redesigned case with cast-in ribs that help make it stiffer and reduce weight. Internally, clutches are optimized and operating temperature increased to reduce friction. The output shaft is now supported by a ball bearing that enables a top speed of 249 km/h (155 mph) for Mustang GT. With a choice of powertrains to suit driving preferences and lifestyles, the new Mustang has cutting-edge technology under the hood to match its modern design. Yet regardless of engine choice, the car remains quintessentially Mustang.

Now, Honey Singh wants to focus on 'durable' work
RAPPER Yo Yo Honey Singh, who rustled up hit number "Aata majhi satakli" for
"Singham Returns" in 30 minutes, says quick work means "compromising with quality"
and that he now wants to focus on durable compositions. "I couldn't say no to the 'Singham Returns' track, although I had no time for it. But for some reason producers and heroes in Bollywood feel I can deliver a track at the shortest notice. 'Kuch bhi kar do, kuch bhi nikaal lo,' I am told," said Honey from London. "You end up compromising with quality when you work in this way. Yes, the 'Singham Returns' song was composed in half an hour. I am not happy with the way it was done," he added. But the track was an instant chartbuster garnering millions
'Gandhi' director Richard Attenborough is dead
RICHARD Attenborough, an Oscar-winning British film director known for the monumental film 'Gandhi', died at the age of 90 Sunday, media reported Monday. Attenborough was one of Britain's leading actors, before becoming a highly successful director, BBC reported. In a career that spanned over six decades, he appeared in films including "Brighton Rock", "The Great Escape" and later in the dinosaur blockbuster "Jurassic Park". As a director he was best known for "Gandhi", which won him two Oscars. Sir Ben Kingsley, who played the title role, said he would "miss him dearly".
"Richard Attenborough trusted me with the crucial and central task of bringing to life a dream it took him 20 years to bring to fruition." "When he gave me the part of Gandhi it was with great grace and joy. He placed in me an absolute trust and in turn I placed an absolute trust in him and grew to love him," Kingsley said. Attenborough had been in a nursing home with his wife for a number of years. He had also been in a wheelchair since falling down stairs six years ago. His son Michael said that Attenborough died at lunchtime Sunday. Paying tribute, Prime Minister David Cameron
tweeted: "His acting in 'Brighton Rock' was brilliant, his directing of 'Gandhi' was stunning Richard Attenborough was one of the greats of cinema." Actress Mia Farrow tweeted: "Richard Attenborough was the kindest man I have ever had the privilege of working with. A Prince. RIP 'Pa' and thank you." Attenborough was also a life president of Chelsea Football Club, which said it was "deeply saddened" to learn of his death. "He led a long and successful life and always found time for the things in life he loved most, one of which was Chelsea FC," the club said. (IANS)
of hits. "I had the 'Singham Returns' song ready in half an hour. I flew back to Mumbai for a day to do the video with Ajay (Devgn), Kareena (Kapoor) and the children and flew back to London within a day. This is not the way to do
durable work." However, he says Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar gave him ample time to create "Lungi dance" in "Chennai Express" and "Party all night" for "Boss" respectively. Honey is certainly flattered by the demand for his work in
Bollywood, but not at the cost of quality. "I need time. Please don't rush me. Please don't tell me to deliver a song in hours. And please don't say, 'Kuch bhi chalega'. That's an encouragement for compromise and mediocrity," he said. (IANS)

Om Puri misses golden era of Hindi cinema
VERSATILE actor Om Puri, who has maintained just the right balance between commercial and parallel cinema, misses the good content on celluloid and rues that
movie-making is now reduced to just moneymaking. "The best films were made in the 1950s and 1960s,” Puri, who has just won accolades for his
work in Hollywood venture “The Hundred Foot Journey”, expressed his views during a group interview. Remembering the era dominated by the likes of
Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand, the 63year-old said: “It was the golden period because subjects were great, nice meaningful songs were there... (but) these days people forget new songs within two months.” "Cinema was more responsible in the 1950s and 1960s. Cinema has become irresponsible today and today moviemaking means moneymaking," he added. Although he admits that the industry is equipped with better technology, yet stylish and commercial cinema dominates hard-hitting subjects. "Of course, some good films are being made these days, but I feel
hard-hitting films are not really being made, and most of the films are considered in terms of business. "Stylish films are being made, technically we
have developed a lot. But in terms of subject, the depth has been reduced," said the actor, known for his work in films like "Ardh Satya", "Maachis" and "East is East". (IANS)
British deputy PM does mahurat shot of Onir's 'Veda' BRITISH Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg Tuesday gave the mahurat shot of Onir's Hamlet adaptation "Veda". The event, attended by Onir's friends Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Suri, was held at the Taj Hotel in Colaba. Clegg had never before attended any Bollywood event and was quite fascinated by the proceedings. "Amid the colour, the drama and the spectacle of Bollywood, it is easy to forget how important it is to the Indian economy,

generating hundreds of millions of pounds in Mumbai and the rest of India," Clegg said. "As we have seen with American co-productions on a grand scale, Britain is one of the world's top destinations for film-makers. I hope Indian producers will follow their counterparts in the US and take advantage of Britain's facilities, expertise and glorious locations to create the next Indian 'Star Wars' or 'Game of Thrones'," said Clegg, who
hobnobbed with director Onir, producer Bhavna Talwar and Juhi Chawla. "Veda" stars newcomer Ashish Bisht as Hamlet, now re-christened Veda. "It was an exceptional honour to have the honourable deputy prime Minister of Britain at our mahurat. I suppose the fact that we are doing an adaptation of Shakespeare must have influenced his decision to be at the event," said producer Bhavna Talwar. (IANS)

I eat right to stay fit: Priyanka Chopra Aamir praises Rani's 'Mardaani' act
ACTRESS Priyanka Chopra is not only known for her powerful acting capabilities but also for her hour-glass figure. She credits her healthy diet
chart for her body. Priyanka was on the sets of Zee TV’s “Cinestars Ki Khoj” to promote her upcoming movie “Mary Kom” where she revealed the secret of her healthy body. When quizzed about how she maintains herself, she said: “I believe that in order to stay fit and lose weight in a right manner, one needs to eat and not starve themselves. I eat right and ensure that I burn it all by working out equally as much as I eat.” She reunited with her “Barfi” director Anurag Basu, one of the judges of
the talent hunt show, briefly to judge with him. While the two shared anecdotes from their “Barfi” days, Basu told the unit about Priyanka having an elephant’s diet. He spoke about her gulping down two to three parathas for breakfast and a 12 inch pizza for lunch all by herself. The episode will air Sunday. "Mary Kom", based on Olympic bronze medallist boxer M.C. Mary Kom's life, is directed by Omung Kumar. It is slated for a Sep 5 release. (IANS)
ACTOR Aamir Khan, who is known to raise social issues via his TV show "Satyamev Jayate", has praised his former co-star Rani Mukerji's work in her latest movie "Mardaani", about child trafficking. "Saw 'Mardaani' yesterday (Sunday)! Must watch, it can happen to anyone! Rani is superb. And so is
the new actor who plays the villain, Tahir Raj Bhasin,"
Aamir, who starred with Rani in "Ghulam", posted on Twitter Monday. In "Mardaani", which released Aug 22, Rani is seen as a police officer on a mission against girls' trafficking. Meanwhile, Aamir is busy promoting his film "PK" these days. (IANS)
A-certificate obstructs 'Mardaani', Rani wants to re-certify it
ACTRESS Rani Mukerji, who is enjoying the success of "Mardaani", Tuesday said that on behest of viewers and NGOs she will send the film to the censor board for re-certification. Despite being awarded an A-certificate, "Mardaani", which earned Rs.15 crore in the opening weekend, has been made tax free in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The actress is keen to show the film on female trafficking to children who are above 12 years. "I am so happy with the response to 'Mardaani'. Many people have asked me why the film has been given an Acertificate? I am going to put in all my effort to re-certify 'Mardaani', which will make a
huge difference," Rani told reporters here. The actress wonders what the censor board is trying to protect the young viewers from? "...this is very sad and disappointing. So many people have called me and said it's so sad that they can't show the film to their children and that they are waiting for the film's DVDs so that their children can also watch it," she said. Rani campaigns for a new category that allows children above 12 years to watch a film like "Mardaani", which has been directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Yash Raj Films. She said: "I have people from NGOs who want to show the film to the children. So I
will take a letter from them to the censor board. We have made the film for kids to spread awareness. "I don't know why we are shying away from reality. Had we wanted a U/A certificate, we could have easily got that by chopping a few scenes, but that's not the point. We want 12 years and above kids to watch the film." Meanwhile Rani urged the Maharashtra government to make "Mardaani" tax free. She said: "I am so happy that the film has been made tax free in UP (Uttar Pradesh) today and that shows the relevance of the film. I also want Maharashtra government to make it tax free." (IANS)

Green peas are one of the most nutritious of the leguminous vegetables and are rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, C, K, and B-complex and minerals such as zinc, iron, calcium, and manganese. They are a great source of protein, fiber, and omega3 fats in the form of alphalinolenic acid (ALA).
These essential fatty acids makes green peas an ideal food for brain and cardiovascular health and their phytosterols are vital for helping to lower cholesterol levels in the body. They are also a fantastic weight loss food since they have the ability to ward off hunger and keep you feeling satiated
for long periods of time. Green peas contain a compound called coumestrol which has been shown to help lower the risk of stomach cancer and they also contain anti-inflammatory properties making them a particularly good food for those who suffer with autoimmune disorders such as

2014 Mazda CX-9: Sharp looking seven seater By Autoreviewman The Mazda CX-9 is arguably the best-lookingcrossover in its class in
a slinky, sensuous way. Models range from a well equipped GS Model with front wheel drive priced from $33,995 or All
Wheeldrive from $36,995 to the more lavishly equipped GT AWD model starting at $45,995. The GS can also be had
with a special luxury package staring at $39,995; comprising: power tailgate, smart keyless entry, (proximity and ignition), leather upholstery, 4-way power passenger seat, power driver lumbar support and power glass moonroof with one touch open and close. The CX-9 is a derivate of the very good Mazda6 sedan and is powered by a 3.7-litre V6 mated to a sixspeed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The CX-9 arrives with three rows of seats with a total of seven seats as standard Available options include the 20-inch tires and alloys, a rear-view camera and Bluetooth phone compatibility. An optional 'Rear Entertainment System' includes a Bose 5.1 channel surround sound system with 11-speakers, CD/DVD player with audio input jack, nine-inch monitor, wireless headphones and an 115V power outlet. The two-tone leather seats in the GT are very attractive and comfortable and include standard seat heaters in the front. Very high quality materials, design and finishing make for a superb level of interior ambience, with a sporty
theme to all the dash The seats are comfortable and afford much comfort on long drives. Kids and passenger will love the cavernous interior, and luxury touches, while the adult will revel in the luxury and power conveniences. Interior room in the CX-9 is above average in the mid-size crossover class. Our family found plenty of legroom and headroom in the first and second rows, and decent headroom and legroom in the third. The CX-9 is both practical and versatile featuring second row seats that slide 12 cm forwards and back to increase legroom for third rowpassengers. Even with the third row seats up, there is 487 liters (17.2 cu. ft.) of cargo space behind the third row seats, while both the second and third row seatbacks fold down without having to remove the
head restraints. Handling and steering proved very responsive although I found the suspension a little firm on rough ground. The AllWheel drive system powers the front-wheels and can transfers power to the rear wheels when more traction is needed. The long wheelbase, 273 horsepower V6 engine and sixspeed automatic transmission make the ride relaxed and comfortable. Not much too complains about although the large turning radius means taking care in tight locations. Overall the CX-9 is a competitive CUV and has great interior luxury and power features. The looks alone make this vehicle worthy of a test drive to see all its many attributes.By Auto reviewman 2014 Mazda CX-9 priced from $33,995

‘Kia Drive Change Day’ – with Vancouver Whitecaps players!
EVERY year on August 21 Kia dealers across the nation takes part in 'Kia Drive Change Day'. The goal and purpose of the event is to give back to our
local communities and help to 'drive change'. This year at Kia Vancouver we invited a local children's soccer team to come in and
help us kick off our sports equipment drive to help provide kids and families who may not be able to afford to play sports the opportunity to do so by providing them with new and gently used equipment. We BBQ'd up some hot dogs and burgers for the kids and their families and invited a couple of the Vancouver Whitecaps players to join in the celebration! Pedro Morales and David Ousted stopped by to sign autographs and take pictures with the kids to celebrate the special day and we handed out Whitecaps FC soccer balls as souvenirs and as a thank you to them for joining us. Kia Vancouver raised over $860 on our kick off day and are continuing with our drive to reach our goal of $5000 and
hoping to fill three of our Kia Rondos with new and gently used sports equipment (All proceeds going directly to charity!) If you would like to help you are welcome to drop by the dealership at 396 Marine Drive
(Cambie and Marine) to contribute cash and/or new or gently used sporting goods. Plus we are doing car washes by donation with all proceeds going to Kids Sports Vancouver.
ICBC rate hike proposal would push basic auto insurance up $3 per month
ICBC is applying once again to raise basic automobile insurance rates — this time by 5.2 per cent — in order, they say, to cover the rising cost of injury claims due to distracted driving. "We certainly understand that nobody likes the news of a rate increase," spokesperson for ICBC Adam Grossman told CBC News. "But the fact is, that the cost of injury claims in B.C. continues to grow every year. "They're currently up $1.9 billion a year — that's almost two thousand million dollars a year just on injury claims," he said. The increase would cost
most vehicle owners about $3 per month or $36 per year, starting Nov. 1, if approved by the B.C. Utilities Commission, according to the provinciallyowned corporation. The corporation blames rising accident rates from distracted driving, and rising legal and medical bills for the proposed hike. "The rising number and cost of injury claims is commonly the biggest single factor driving rates for all auto insurers across North America and beyond," said a statement released by the corporation on Tuesday morning. "There are various factors contributing to
the increasing number of injury claims, including the rapid adoption and use of personal electronic devices behind the wheel. "Distracted driving is now the second leading cause of car crash fatalities in B.C., with an average of 88 people killed each year, and the leading cause of rear-end crashes which often result in injuries." The proposal comes just one year after ICBC requested a 4.9 per cent hike citing the same reasons, and received permission to put rates up 5.2 per cent. The extra 0.3 per cent was deferred until this year.
