VOICES OF SINGAPORE FESTIVAL 2022 5–8 SEP 2022 | CHIJMES HALL VOS Corporate Patron Venue Sponsor Supported bySupporting Sponsor
This year’s festival theme encapsulates how we have sung our way through the darkness of the pandemic. It celebrates the freedom to sing in light of these circumstances, and looks to the hope that a new dawn brings. This is our ode to all things new. "the evening sings in a voice of amber, the dawn is surely coming."

This year marks the Festival’s seventh instalment, and it will be held over four days, from 5–8 September 2022. The festival aims to create meaningful choral music-making experiences for all its participants and performers. An array of choral performances, concerts and workshops will take place in person at the historical Chijmes Hall, with selected programmes available online. The Festival is championed by VOS, an arts charity with a mission to support communities through singing and musicmaking. spotlight on young local talents, some of whom may go on to front Singapore’s music scene one day.
We owe our deepest gratitude to CHIJMES for providing us with such a stunning venue, as well as our partner sponsors ABRSM, the National Arts Council and the Tote Board Arts Fund in enabling our work of bringing music to the communities. We are also indebted to Perennial Holdings, Voices of Singapore’s corporate patron, for being an advocate of our cause to inspire singing communities.

Voices of Singapore Festival 2022! This edition is themed “A New Dawn”, encapsulating the spirit of us returning to a full-fledged, in-person festival. It took a pandemic to make us realise that the simple act of singing in a group was a privilege we took for granted. That is why this edition, aptly titled ‘A New Dawn’, holds a special meaning to many of us. It marks a new beginning as we return to a full-fledged, in-person festival, to celebrate the freedom of coming together again to sing!
Hello Welcomeeveryone,tothe

Music has an uncanny ability to touch us in ways we cannot comprehend, and make us feel more alive again. I hope the diversity of songs presented at this year’s festival will help bring some form of restoration to both participants and audiences alike, and instil a renewed sense of hope as we move ahead into a new normal.
I am delighted to welcome over 40 choral groups and more than 50 individual singers to the stage, each bringing with them a unique sound and stage presence. Some of these choirs and singers feature familiar faces, while others are making their festival debut.
I am also excited to introduce two new programmes: Stars of Today and Tomorrow by The Voice Company will feature budding voices as well as those of their mentors, and the Singer-Songwriter Series shines the message from directorartisticthe

The night is dark and still; the absence of light terrifies and the void of silence unsettles. Yet, as we seek comfort in our cries and prayers, in the peace and calm of the night, in the company of angels and muses, our renewed faith and joy triumph over all pains and sorrows. IFC’s journey started in 1974 when it was established as the adult choral body of the United World College of South East Asia. This journey has seen a wide-ranging repertoire from largescale orchestral works to intimate a cappella gems across various music periods, genres, and cultures; a journey with notable highlights such as the Asian premiere of David Fanshawe’s African Sanctus, and the Singapore premiere of J.S. Bach’s Johannes Passion. Our history of fine conductors, singers and musicians, coupled with our huge repertory of music, are the foundation of our continuing musical and artistic mission. The Chorus has significantly expanded over the years to include members from numerous countries, cultures and professions. Currently, the choir is under the direction of Tom Anderson who joined the Singapore music scene in 1999, and has served as Resident Conductor for Raffles Junior College Chorale and adjunct lecturer in the School of Church Music at Singapore Bible College.
Besides singing, Chordinate Singers also produced two original songs titled “Dawn of Blessings” and “You Are My Solace” - both songs are available on all major digital platforms including Chordinate Singers’ own YouTube channel. The world premiere of “You Are My Solace” took place at the group’s debut on-stage performance on 25 Jun 2022 in Victoria Concert Hall at the Ocean of Songs 2022

For centuries, Hakka folk songs have been woven into the fabric of the lives of generations of Hakka people. Hakka folk songs are part of the ancient Classic of Poetry, the oldest existing collection of Chinese poetry, reflecting the tribulations, joy and spirit of the Hakka people’s migratory journey. However, with the passage of time, this tradition was neglected and forgotten. With a determined effort to preserve this cultural heritage and to promote Hakka folk songs, Lin Liying collaborated with Liang Zhaohui and Zhang Zhaoying to set up Singapore’s first Hakka folk song class in Aug 2002, the beginnings of today’s YingFo Folk Songs Choir. by arr. by Pang by Wu Xiong (lyrics) and Pang (music), by by Chan (lyrics) (music), by Pang by Jay by

On Spotify alone, Lewis garners the regular attention of over 120k monthly listeners and sits on over 14 million streams spread between Spotify and Apple Music. With the release of his sophomore album michigan/missinghim in 2021, lewloh is poised to be one of the top English folk-pop acts from Singapore. 5.00pm–6.30pm
Join lewloh and his singer-songwriter mentees as they bring you an afternoon of genre-defying creations. Lewis will also lead a panel discussion on songwriting and the artist life.

Being LGBTQ+, Asian, and a third-culture kid are key parts of lewloh’s identity as it brings about a unique intersectional perspective of not being able to fit in, often in more ways than one. Lewis’ songs often deal with the themes of love, trauma, abandonment, healing, and hope. This makes him an important voice for his generation of young listeners and musician peers.

About Lewis Lewis, who goes by the artist handle of lewloh, is a singersongwriter who translates intangible emotion into an embrace that is rough but real. His voice hugs you like a friend and takes you home. Since the release of his debut album ‘Lullacry’ in 2017, Lewis has been steadily winning the hearts of folk-pop lovers in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, USA, and the Southeast Asia region. Today, he constantly pushes himself to reinvent his storytelling, and is slated to be one of the most prolific singer-songwriters from the region.
