New season, new style!
There is something so refreshing about Autumn. As much as I love summer, as soon as August hits, the excitement sets in for that new wardrobe where you can experiment with new styles and trends. It’s crazy to think we had 35 degrees heat a month ago, let alone figure out what to wear in this ever-changing climate. Where do we start?
With the drastic increase of the cost-of-living skyrocketing daily, we know it feels difficult to even think about the F Word! But the one thing about style is, you don’t have to break the bank to achieve it! You just have to get a little creative.
Voir is here to support you because you matter! Issue 29 is filled with inspiration for your new season, same me Glow Up! “I know that’s right’ Saweetie voice.
Even if it’s choosing a favourite staple piece, like your must-have winter jacket, or stripping it down to the very important basics, you can still turn up in style with glam accessories – it’s all in the detail! From designer jewellery to the season’s latest shoe trend, shop the look and stack up your wardrobe without fearing your bank statement. Don’t worry, we all do it!
After three seasons of effortless makeup and flawless skin with our strict skincare routines, this season we are ready for all the vibrant colours. At Voir, more is more! So, experiment with that eyeshadow, wear that lipstick and dye that hair your favourite colour (or spray it for a temporary fix). Not sure where to start? Our beauty section shows you the seasons current styles and what you need to achieve it. We’ve also collaborated to create some playful inspo for your next nail appointment with celebrity nail artist Kat Katana. We even called upon one of our favourite beauty influencers of the moment, Linasha @linnygd, to show us how she adds a little sparkle into her makeup and her favourite products she likes to use. This issue is your new season’s Bible.
It’s time to take back that control during these uncertain times and focus on yourself! As Saweetie says in her exclusive interview with Voir Fashion, “You do you and Imma do me, respectfully.”
For this issue, Voir took to LA to shoot the Icy Queen. Saweetie has been a force of female empowerment from the beginning, having won several music awards, listed within the Forbes 30 under 30 and being the new face of M.A.C earlier this year. Your girl even teamed up with McDonald’s to create her own meal(!), what’s next?
Alongside Saweetie’s icy 3 cover special, she tells us the exciting news of her upcoming music projects as a freespirited single woman and when her much awaited album is going to drop. Join us behind the scenes at Voir’s cover shoot where Saweetie and I collabed to create 3 iconic
looks. See her own the set as she takes over with her contagious positive energy and confidence. You can’t miss it – Get it girl!

After what felt like an eternity of WFH glam (business on top, party on the bottom), a tailoring revival is well overdue. Suits are back in fashion in a big way and are expected to dominate through autumn into winter. No matter how far we progress, it seems we cannot help but be seduced by the beguiling charm of a good suit. Plus, once you’ve had your first taste of old money style, the tendency is to push it till you’re decked out to the 9s. That means knit, ties, vests, oversized blazers and loafers galore. What sets this tailoring trend apart from it’s predecessors though are two main features: bulky silhouettes and unorthodox colours. Don’t believe us? Just take a peek at the AW22 collections for Alexander McQueen, Valentino and ACNE Studios. Celebrities currently rocking the suit trend on and off the red carpet include Zendaya, Blake Lively and Hunter Schafer.

As the icy, autumn bite begins to settle, and the days grow brace the cold or not. The right to bare skin in subatomic temperatures begrudgingly beloved, you’d be hard passed to attempt to rip Kate Moss sheer dress incident... Luckily for us, the harbingers and declared showing skin, in. Across the runways, from Fendi proclaiming that less is more. Whether that be tasteful cut outs over the red carpet on the likes of Doja Cat, Megan Thee
shorter, we are faced with a simple choice: to temperatures is a British rite so mythologised and rip that away. After all, who can forget the 1993 harbingers of fashion have come in clutch this season Fendi to Mugler, the biggest names in fashion are outs or chic mesh. The look has also been seen all Stallion, Simone Ashley and Mahlagha Jaberi.
There are times in fashion where something that was once untouchable becomes so chic, it gives you whiplash, and the fated communion of flares and leggings is definitely turning heads this season. Now, its not that flares or leggings haven’t been on our radar for some time now, but when you start seeing them together across the board, you know there’s a shift in the air. Spotted on the AW22 runways for Poster girl, 16arlington and Nensi Dojaka, this trend is perfect for those of you looking for something you can dress up and dress down with a few simple accessories. It’s also been a classic off-duty-model staple all of this year, seen on the likes of Kendal Jenner, Emrata and Bella Hadid.

It was a hard decision for Saweetie to make but, in a quick-fire question round, she listed her top favourite female icons. “There are just so many icons that came before me! I love Cleopatra. She was a strong, powerful woman and spoke so many languages. Elizabeth Taylor - I love all of her blingandhowshewoulddohermake-up.Thefirst[cover]lookwasactually inspired by her era; blue shadow with coral lipstick. And, definitely Donna Summer, shewasTHEglamourgirl.Summer’ssingle‘LovetoLoveYouBaby’ makes me feel so sexy! I be like, [smirks] Girrrl.”
As a young, smart, sexy and independent woman herself, Saweetie can never forget the music artist she was always in stan of, Princess of R&B, Aaliyah. “I had all her DVDs and her CDs, I used to watch her every time she came on TV. So if she was alive, I’d be part of her stan culture for sure.”
Saweetie grew up always knowing she wanted to be in the music industry, but this didn’t stop her from going to San Diego State and graduating from USC in Business and Communication. “I’mstillgratefulforthoseexperiences but I think that kids should go to school for what they are passionate about. In school I got good grades because I was scared of my mum [laughs] she’s a Tiger mum!” In other words, Saweetie “like[s] learning about things [she] likes learning about”, and music was her true passion.
Being multi-racial- Half Black and Half Filipino - Saweetie believes her mix of ethnicities laid a hand on herself, as a unique individual, as her experiences were different to others. “I feel like I’ve had to deal with dualism my whole life - so two cultures, two colleges, all of these twos were just appearing in my life. It was always a traditional versus a carefree environment. But at the end of the day, I have 2 things to take pride in, so it definitely contributed to who I am as a woman in its totality and not just my music.”
Grinding hard in the studio this past year, doing up to 130+ days of recording, Saweetie is excited to release the music she’s been working hard on. And yes, she knows well that we’ve all been eagerly waiting for her Pretty Bitch Music album to come through!
On a Voir exclusive, Saweetie revealed that her next project, The Single Life, will encompass 12 songs and be released in just a couple of weeks. “Girl is ready to go!” Catching us up to date with her life and experiences as a single independent woman, she gave us some words of wisdom for our Voir community and abundant female fans: “The best thing that I have learnt about being a woman is just not giving a f***. Like there has to be a point in your life when you just don’t care anymore, and I don’t want to achieve that when I’m 40 years old [laughs]. I speak to a lot of older women because they just know the game, they’ve lived life. A lot of them say they didn’t really achieve 100% confidence until in their 30s, 40s or even their 50s. I’m trying toachievethatrightnow!SoIdon’tgiveaf***[laughs]…butrespectfully. You know I’m not out here just riling [laughs], I still got grace, I still got class, but you know. You do you and Imma do me, respectfully.”
Working successfully to achieve this carefree (and respectful) IDGAF energy, and level of comfortability in her own skin, Saweetie explains that this all comes from self-work; something she’s still learning about. “I have a shadow work journal. It’s kinda like learning about childhood trauma. It asks you questions about deep insecurities you probably didn’t know about and helps you to deal with them. But honestly, shadow work, self-work and reflection are the keys. I’ve been doing that a lot as of recently.” To cap off the stunning shoot day where Saweetie obsessed over our English accents and lusted over wanting to move to London, we asked one final question; what brings you to London? “Honestly, the girls from London kinda remind me of people from theBay,onlybecauseIappreciatethebluntness. There’snosugar coating, there’s no bull**** and I love no bull****. You guys take pride in vibes and I’m a vibey person. I also love the fashion out there and the culture. I love Princess Diana; my birthday is the day after hers - Cancer gang I know that’s right [laughs].”
After little persuasion to get Saweetie to London, she yells, “Girl, put me in your bag! [laughs] I’ll see you later, girl [laughs].” Icy Queen, we’re ready for ya!
SAWEETIE’S HANGOVER CURE: Thai Tom Yum Kung Soup with a side of Sticky Rice. Add: Button Mushrooms, Squid, Crab, Shrimp, Mussels. “It’s the best hangover cure! Girl, get you some Gatorade and it’s a wrap.”
