Hans Schutte and Sanne van Zoeren about the new MBO Foundation Craftsman Training (level 2)
Cram and get Paid Earn money and get an MBO education for free
The communication campaign FF Stampen, Lekker Verdienen (Cram and get Paid) promotes the MBO-training Foundation Craftsman, both online and offline. Sanne van Zoeren, temporarily responsible for marketing and communication at the NVAF, and Hans Schutte of the Education working group within the NVAF, call on all members to commit themselves to this training: ‘Because recruiting new employees is in everyone’s interest’.
A condition for starting this training in September is that at least twelve young people register. The training, in which attendees work four days and go to school one day a week, is for young people between the ages of 16 and 28. Although Hans Schutte adds: ‘Lateral entrants are certainly also welcome. Because of Corona, we see that many young people and certainly the slightly older ones are at home without work. For them, this is a special opportunity to choose a good job with future prospects.’
Need for staff
Due to the aging population, but also because of the ‘Heavy Work Scheme’ that has been included in the Collective Labour Agreement for Construction & Infrastructure as of 1 January 2021, which gives people in heavy professions the option of retiring up to three years earlier, recruiting new employees has become very important in the foundation industry. Recruitment that is made more difficult because not everyone is equally familiar with the foundation industry. Partly due to the efforts of the NVAF, the image of the sector has improved considerably in recent years, as have the working conditions within the sector. Innovations in machines, the layout of the construction site with the Construction Site Certificate, as well as the Health and Safety rules and legislation in the field of Safe Working contribute to this.
Sanne van Zoeren, who temporarily shares her job at Vroom Funderingstechnieken with her efforts at the NVAF, says: ‘I am very happy to now combine the colour red of Vroom with working for the NVAF, where I can contribute to the entire industry. It gives me great pleasure to be able to work on the marketing and communication surrounding this new MBO programme’.
FF stampen, Lekker verdienen, says: ‘exactly what we are offering young people and lateral entrants. While they work four days a week in the foundation industry, they attend school one day a week. But they earn a good salary from day one’.

Attractive industry
Hans Schutte: ‘The salaries in the foundation sector are good. With a starting salary between 2500 and 3000 Euro, you immediately start with a neat pay. And you get a free MBO education that offers numerous perspectives and career opportunities’.
Sanne van Zoeren has set up an online community on LinkedIn. She posts content in this closed group every week, which, in addition to a call to potential new employees, is also at the service of members who can share this content with their own network: ‘The more we all share content, the greater the reach’. That the efforts of Sanne and of all foundation companies are successful is apparent from the 700 unique visitors to the NVAF website.
Image of the industry
Hans Schutte, who, as General Manager, trains the naval and foundation activities within DEME Infra: ‘The communication around this training offers us as NVAF the opportunity to draw attention to the foundation industry. We are in an industry that is less well known. A beautiful bridge or sluice stands out during its entire lifespan. Most of our work is underground, so you don’t see much of it in the end. However, the works are essential for the carrying capacity of the buildings and infrastructural works’.
Sanne: ‘You hear people say: the foundation industry is not sexy! This is one of the reasons why it is difficult to find the right people. But it really is a well-organised, modern industry, in which people enjoyably find good jobs, earn well and have numerous career opportunities. This image must be communicated externally, and I am happy to commit myself to that’.
Hans Schutte: ‘In addition to social media where Sanne does a great job, we also place regional advertisements and give presentations at schools. That is precisely where there is an opportunity to enter into direct dialogue with young people within the VMBO and MBO educations. That way we hear the stories first-hand and that creates a nice interaction’.
‘The training will initially be given in Heerhugowaard. However, if more than twelve interested young people sign up, we will also provide training in other regions.’
Sanne van Zoeren: ‘This is not just a call for boys. In general, we are also seeing more and more girls in the construction industry who are interested in this profession’.
