- DECADE OF CENTENARIES

“That this Committee, possibly in conjunction with Iarnród Éireann, mark the national ‘Decade of Centenaries’ in a unique community focussed manner by the naming of each of the stone bridges over the DART line in honour of persons from the Blackrock, Dún Laoghaire and Killiney/Shankill Local Electoral Areas who died in each of the decades since the renaming of the Urban District Council in 1920 and who contributed significantly to the cultural, artistic, educational, commercial, maritime, architectural, sporting or political heritage of the communities of the coastal Local Electoral Areas of the County with special consideration given to commemorating Councillor Seán Ó hUadhaigh who successfully proposed the renaming of the Urban District Council from Kingstown UDC to the Dún Laoghaire UDC in 1920 in honour of Ard Rí Laoghaire which subsequently became the name of the Town in 1921 and of the harbour in 1924 and, that the public be invited to propose names for each of these bridges.” Report: The bridges over the Dart line are the property of Iarnród Eireann.
