r e v o make Charles has lived at Mount Close for over 10 years and because of COVID-19 hasn’t been able to leave home for a while. So staff decided it was time for a bedroom makeover! Walking in the woods is Charles’ favourite thing to do so staff thought it would be a great idea to bring the woods to him. Because of his allergies, staff had to put their thinking caps on to find a wallpaper that wouldn’t make Charles poorly but after lots of searching they found the perfect one! Staff spoke to Charles’ epilepsy consultant to check the makeover was going to be beneficial for his mental wellbeing. It then took a month to complete the makeover but everyone’s hard work has paid off. Charles loves it!

Well done team! Due to lockdown, staff couldn’t get in professionals to do the makeover. But by working together the team did a great job - they even had to strip four layers of wallpaper before starting!

At the Hadlows, they called a meeting with the people we support to find out what activities they wanted to do that week. Some of them were keen to get cooking and their top choice was pizza and cake. Vinnie and Anthony, two of the residents like to cook once or twice a week so they went away and chose a recipe from the internet.

Their recipe was a complete hit! They helped chop veg, rolled their own pastry and everyone chose t own toppings. Some of the other residents helped prepare, whilst others prefered to eat the goods. “This activity, helps with independence as they do everything themselves, staff are there to support when needed, and often they prefer staff to say the method while they do the actions,” says Service Manager, Joanne. At West Road, one the people we support was missing going out to their favourite pizza restaurant where he used to make his own pizza. So, everyone worked together to bring the restaurant to him. Everyone had great fun rolling the dough and choosing the toppings, just like they would in the restaurant and the result was great!

4. What c ountry is famous fo r their piz za’s? A: Italy B: India C: China

13

Cut out this recipe to try for yourself! Step 1 - roll out the dough (if you’re feeling extra creative, why not make your own?) Top tip! Make sure there is lots of flour on the worktop!

Vinnie’s favourite toppings are: mozzarella cheese, peppers, mushrooms, onions, pineapple, ham and sweetcorn!

At West Road the pizza’s were a great success!

Step 2 - Mix 100ml of passata, a handful of fresh basil and 1 crushed garlic clove. Then cover your dough in a thin layer.

Step 3 - Time to pick your favourite toppings and get them all chopped and ready to go!

Step 4 - Then add to your pizza and grate some cheese on top!

Step 5 - Pop in the oven at 220c/gas mark 8 for 10 mins or until golden brown.

Step 6 - It’s time to tuck in and enjoy! Remember! Send us a picture of your finished creation!

Spring Winner! We asked you to get involved with the Big March Make competition by making a piece of art telling us why you love spring! Our judges had a very tough decision to make. We had lots of creative entries and it was a tight competition, but the winner is... Rivers! The judges were impressed with the time and passion put into this collage. The teamwork from the people we support, coached along by staff is incredible, and a delight to see! Thank you to everyone who entered the competition - we loved seeing your creations!

Staff and the residents spent a lot of time doing this, and I’m very proud of their hard work!”

Tracey, Deputy Manager at Rivers.

Easter Competition! Get involved with this year’s eggcellent decorating competition! To celebrate Easter, we want you to be super creative, use your imagination and decorate an egg. You can pick a theme, favourite colour or character - it can be anything!

Send your entries to communications@voyagecare.com by 16 April to be in with a chance of winning!
