ver previous years, Voyages to Antiquity’s Mediterranean, small-ship cruises, combining top-class service, meticulously planned itineraries and expert guest speaker programmes have proved so popular that we have decided to expand our horizons. For 2016, we have developed a series of voyages that explore the very best historic, gastronomic and cultural destinations in Europe. From the classical elegance of ancient Greek architecture and the splendour of the Byzantine Empire to the monumental fortifications of the Norman crusaders and great cathedrals of Europe, our aim is to bring to life the exciting and inspiring history of Europe.
Inside this brochure you will not only find all you need to know about our ship, Aegean Odyssey, and our policies and style, but also an insight into the extraordinary destinations and sites you will visit. You will also discover the wonderful river and coastal cruising experiences on offer. The itineraries have been written in a way that we hope will enhance your appreciation of the cruises, and the introductory pages outline our philosophy and the historical and cultural background of the dazzling civilisations of antiquity we visit. With so much included in our cruises (see page 17), you’ll also appreciate excellent value for money.

award-winning journeys ~
unforgettable experiences Voyages to the historic, cultural and artistic heart of Europe These fantastic journeys range from Athens, Rome, and the other great centres of antiquity to the Greek Islands, the glamorous Cote d’Azur, the wine regions of Portugal and France, and the romantic Cornish coast in the west of England. Another unique aspect of our itineraries is the inclusion of exceptional land and sea combinations. Along the way you may enjoy cocktail parties in historic palazzos, special events in some of the most stunning historical buildings in the world, expertly guided tours of the great treasures of antiquity and social events such as sherry tasting in one of Spain’s top bodegas. So there you have it: awardwinning cruising in comfort and style, visits to places you will never forget and fun and companionship ashore and on board.

The wonders of Athens and cruising the Greek Islands It is in Athens, perhaps the greatest city of antiquity, where our story begins. The poet John Milton called Athens "the eye of Greece, mother of arts and eloquence," and it was here in the 5th century BC that the genius and creativity of the ancient Greek world shone with unprecedented brilliance. This was the time of the great statesman Pericles who organised the construction of the Acropolis, of the dramatists Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripedes and, of course, of the philosopher Socrates. Through visits to all the key sights and the commentary of expert guides and lecturers, your visit to this truly remarkable place will bring to life this "Golden Age" of Western civilisation.
After the vibrancy of Athens, the tranquillity of the Greek Islands offers a wonderful contrast and, as you sail through the sparkling waters of the Aegean, you have time to meet your fellow passengers, get to know the ship and relax into life on board. As well as stunning natural beauty, the isles of Greece offer some of the most impressive sites from this region's fascinating history. On Delos, legendary birthplace of Apollo and the paramount religious sanctuary of the ancient Greek world, you can walk along the Terrace of the Lions with its famous marble guardian statues and explore the classic Doric Temple of the Delians. By contrast, nearby Mykonos offers the more sybaritic experience of vibrant
tavernas and bustling shops. Then, a visit to Crete takes you back to the time of the Minoans, one of the earliest civilisations of antiquity, and the ornate palace at Knossos. Charming Patmos, the Crusader stronghold of Rhodes and spectacular Santorini also feature as the ship makes its way to Turkey.
Byzantine Treasures, Agamemnon’s Mycenae and Epidaurus The history of Thessalonica is a long one stretching back to the Ancient Greeks. Later, the city was a major port in the Roman Empire and played a key role in the birth of Christianity, as it was here in 50AD that St Paul preached and sowed the seeds for Thessalonica’s first Christian church. From the 9th century AD, the city grew
in importance under the Byzantines and became the second most important cultural and religious centre in the Empire after Constantinople. This preeminence has left a legacy of remarkable Byzantine churches and mosaics. Mycenae was a fortified late Bronze Age city located between two hills on the Argolid plain of the Peloponnese, Greece. Between the 14th and 13th century BC, Mycenaean civilisation was at the peak of its power, influence and artistic expression. In Greek mythology, Agamemnon is believed to have been not only king of Mycenae but of all of the Archaean Greeks and leader of their expedition to Troy to recapture Helen. Nearby Epidaurus is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asclepius the Healer and is home to the famous 4th century BC theatre.

METEORA: IN THE HEAVENS ABOVE
M
“ eteora, literally "middle of the sky", "suspended in the air" or "in the heavens above", is one of the gems of Greece and is one of the most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries. From the 14th to the 16th centuries, 24 magnificent monasteries were built on the countless summits of the region and today, six of them remain to be explored and admired by all. These monasteries became centres of the Orthodox creed in the Byzantine era, having produced some of the best pieces of religious art and craft and still possessing a collection of precious manuscripts, which today are on display in their museums.
As you make your way to or from Venice, one of the great advantages of small-ship cruising becomes apparent as the size of Aegean Odyssey means that you sail as close as possible to some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in the world. Cruising in coastal waters allows you to appreciate the true magnificence of Kotor Bay. Cutting through the Dinaric Alps in Montenegro, this dramatically beautiful inlet stretches over 20 miles inland and is Europe’s southernmost fjord.
Along the Dalmatian coast Aegean Odyssey calls at two fascinating and architecturally pleasing ports, Dubrovnik and Split. The beauty of Dubrovnik moved the writer George Bernard Shaw to describe it as “Paradise on Earth” and indeed it’s hard to imagine anyone becoming jaded by the city’s marble streets, baroque buildings and charming people. Further up the Adriatic coast, the highlight of the visit to Split is without doubt touring the vast Palace of Diocletian. Completed in 305AD, the limestone and marble palace was built by the Emperor Diocletian for his retirement, and the complex comprised three temples, Diocletian’s massive mausoleum (now the Cathedral of St Dominus) and enough accommodation to house 9,000 people.

exciting destinations ~
spectacular sights Sparkling Ravenna and serene Venice On the Adriatic’s Italian coast lies one of Europe’s most dazzling architectural treasures. Briefly the capital of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD, Ravenna is famous for its superb early Christian mosaics and buildings. Your visits to the Byzantine masterpiece Church of St Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placida will thrill and inspire. The first doge (duke) of Venice was elected in 726AD and the Venetian republic existed for over a millennium until 1797. Often referred to La Serenissima, the Most Serene Republic, the Venetians acquired an empire of trade and commercial interests. This wealth funded the city you see today. Unlike cruises on larger vessels that offer a brief daytime stop in this wonderful place, our itineraries include a two-night hotel stay in the heart of Venice so you have time to really explore the city, furthermore, your visit will include an exclusive evening visit to St Mark’s Cathedral.
Italy’s “Dolce Vita” and France’s glamorous Cote d’Azur No other country in Europe combines the best of art, culture, gastronomy and style with quite the same panache as Italy. Here you can enjoy a scoop of the most delicious

ice cream in the world as you admire some of the greatest treasures of antiquity or sip a Campari while sitting in the sunshine on the stunning Amalfi Coast. Whether you are standing on the stage of the Greek theatre at Taormina in Sicily overlooking Mount Etna or marvelling at the extensive ruins of tragic Pompeii, the
joy of Italy and its way of life will entrance you. Furthermore, from the grandeur of Imperial Rome to the Renaissance splendour of Florence, Italy’s great cities are places of charm and wonder. Few will forget setting sight on the monumental Colosseum and the sprawling Roman Forum or the great Florentine Renaissance palaces and their numerous masterpieces of Western art. Sailing west, Aegean Odyssey cruises along the sophisticated French Riviera to the bustling port of Marseilles.
Provence: land of olive trees and lavender This is an ideal place to not only explore the lavender fields and charming villages
of Provence but also for visiting some of southern France’s most interesting places. Chief among these is the medieval town of Avignon. Surrounded by well preserved 800-year-old stone ramparts, graceful Avignon was once the seat of papal power and this honour bestowed the city with a legacy of magnificent art and architecture, none grander than the massive medieval fortress and papal palace, Palais des Papes. It is also home to the Pont d'Avignon – of nursery-rhyme fame – that spans halfway across the River Rhône. The town is also criss-crossed with ancient cobbled alleyways lined with inviting boutiques and opening out onto leafy squares over-flowing with cafe tables.
Elegant Arles with its splendid Roman ruins including the famous amphitheatre and Carcassonne with its impressive city walls and fortress also await. The natural beauty of the Nice area and its mild Mediterranean climate have made it a popular destination since the 18th century. The city's main seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais (‘the Walkway of the English') owes its name to some of the city’s earliest visitors, the English aristocracy. The picturesque Nicean surroundings have attracted not only those in search of relaxation, but also those seeking inspiration. The clear air and soft light has been of particular appeal to some of
Western culture's most outstanding painters, such as Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse. Their work is commemorated in many of the city's museums, including the Musee Matisse and Musee des Beaux-Arts. An overnight stay also gives you the opportunity to spend some time in a place synonymous with the glamour and opulence of the South of France, Monte Carlo.

fascinating history
A taste of Spain – from Moorish palaces to river cruising With its cosmopolitan lifestyle, stunning architecture, fabulous food and fascinating historical sites, Barcelona is understandably one of Europe’s most popular destinations. Highlights of your visit include the Roman sites of the city including the Temple of Apollo and Roman remains in the Gothic Quarter and, a view of perhaps the most extraordinary of the city’s landmarks, the Sagrada Familia, the massive Catalan church designed by the visionary architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction of this iconic building began in 1882 and is still ongoing.
8
A short cruise along the coast brings you to the tranquil and sophisticated city of Valencia. With its magnificent 13th-century cathedral, combination of ancient and avant-garde architecture, and open green spaces, this charming city never fails to delight the visitor. In the year 711, Moorish forces from Morocco and Algeria invaded Spain and in seven years conquered the Iberian Peninsula, eventually conquering territory that comprised most of Spain, Portugal and parts of France. Their rule lasted until 1492 and the Moors left behind a remarkable legacy of elaborate palaces, mosques and gardens. Two of the greatest treasures from this time are the Alhambra in Granada and the Great Mosque in Cordoba.
Spain is rightly famous for its great food and wine, and a stop at Jerez allows you to sample one of the country’s most famous products. In the convivial atmosphere of the Bodegas Gonzalez Byass you will try some of Spain’s very best sherry. Before leaving Spain, Aegean Odyssey takes you on a spectacular journey cruising up the Guadalquivir River into the heart of the Andalusian city of Seville.
From Moroccan souks to Madeira, the Canaries and Sahara Desert Morocco, with its rich culture, fascinating history and exotic atmosphere should be high on everyone’s travel list. Combining cruising with an exciting land-tour ensures that you see the very best of this wonderful

palaces to enjoying a fresh pastry and bica (espresso) at a bar in a leafy plaza and listening to the haunting melodies of Portuguese fado music. During your tour, you will have the opportunity to visit the Royal Carriage Museum and explore the coastal areas around the capital including Estoril, Europe’s most western point at Cabo de Roca, and the Royal Palace and gardens at Queluz.
country including the labyrinthine souk and the Marjorelle Gardens of Marrakesh, the medieval city of Fez, the Roman ruins of Volubilis and a scenic drive through the Atlas Mountains. After the exotic hustle and bustle of Morocco, Madeira and the Canary Islands offer a complete change of pace. Madeira, once favoured by Sir Winston Churchill as the perfect place to paint and relax, is a gem of an island some 250 miles north of Tenerife. Settled by the Portuguese in 1419 and ceded to the British in the early nineteenth century, Madeira’s wonderful climate, lush gardens and famous wine have proved popular with visitors for centuries. Likewise, the year-round climate, dramatic volcanic landscapes, picturesque
upland villages and amazing flora of La Palma and Lanzarote in the Canaries have made these islands rightly popular. El Marsa is a fishing port on the coast of the Western Sahara and from here you drive roughly 8 miles through the haunting and beautiful desert landscape of sand dunes to the city of Laayoune (whose Arabic name means “water source”).
The sounds and sights of Portugal Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. The Lisbon experience encompasses so many things, from visiting magnificent museums and exquisite
Located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal, Oporto became a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. A colourful city, Oporto is dotted with medieval relics, soaring bell towers, extravagant baroque churches and stately beaux-arts buildings. The historic centre is the Ribeira district, a place typified by old shop fronts, village-style plazas and old houses where Roman ruins lurk beneath
the foundations. Oporto is also home to some excellent museums and galleries including the Álvaro Siza Vieira’s Museu de Arte Contemporânea and Rem Koolhaas’ Casa da Música.
An unforgettable pilgrimage The capital of the Spanish province of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela is one of the most important places in Christendom as it is reputed to be the place where St James, one of the twelve Apostles of Christ, is buried (see box). It was in the 8th century AD that the remains were identified as those of Saint James the Great, and their acceptance as such by the Pope and Charlemagne. From then on, this settlement was not just a city, but a holy city, and one of the main centres of Christian pilgrimage.

ccording to legend, the apostle Saint James the Great brought Christianity to the Iberian Peninsula. In 44AD he was beheaded in Jerusalem and his remains were later brought back to Galicia, Spain. His tomb is said to have been rediscovered in 814AD by the hermit Pelagius after he witnessed strange lights in the night sky, and King Alfonso II ordered the construction of a chapel on the site. Construction of the present cathedral began in 1075 and the last stone was laid in 1122. The cathedral was expanded and embellished with additions in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

new adventures La Belle France: From wine tasting in Bordeaux to the chateaux of the Loire After sailing along France’s Atlantic Coast, Aegean Odyssey cruises up the River Gironde to berth in centre of Bordeaux. The city boasts the most beautiful streets in France and its magnificent 18th-century centre prompted Queen Elizabeth II to call the city “the very essence of elegance” on her last visit. Bordeaux is also rightly regarded as the wine capital of the world, producing some of the greatest vintages available. In Bordeaux, wine is at the centre of life and on your visit you will enjoy and expertly guided tasting at one of the best chateaux. This is the perfect opportunity to try some of the greatest wines and learn about the vineyards while getting to know your fellow passengers. Further up the coast is the city of Nantes, our gateway to an unforgettable land tour
to the picturesque Chateaux Country of the Loire. From the 16th century, the Loire Valley was where the French royalty preferred to spend their time and so the local chateaux were renovated in to lavish summer residences. You’ll overnight in the medieval town of Amboise and enjoy visits to several chateaux including world-famous Chenonceau (see box for more details).
Norman abbeys and the D-Day Invasion beaches On France’s northern coast two contrasting but equally moving sites await you: the ancient fortifications and abbey of Mont Saint-Michel and the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy. The island of
10
Mont Saint-Michel has been the seat of a monastery since the 8th century. The abbey is one of the most stunning monuments to the great Norman civilisation that gives this region its name. Descended from the Vikings (“Norse Men”), the Norman influence would be felt throughout Europe (including the Kingdom of Sicily) and the Holy Land. Mont SaintMichel’s unique position of being an island only 600 metres from land made it readily accessible at low tide to the many pilgrims visiting the abbey. Equally, this position made it readily defensible as an incoming tide stranded, or drowned, would-be assailants. By capitalising on this natural defence, the Mont remained unconquered
during the Hundred Years’ War with a small garrison successfully defending it against a full attack by the English in 1433. One of France's most recognisable landmarks, Mont Saint-Michel and its bay are part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Fortifications from modern times mark the beaches in Normandy where the Allies landed in 1944. On the 6th June 1944 the largest invasion force ever assembled landed on the coast of occupied France on five beaches code-named Sword, Juno, Omaha, Utah and Gold. An expertly guided tour of this sacred battlefield will enlighten and inform your understanding of this most famous of battles.
cultivated, are housed in a glass dome large enough to fully enclose the Tower of London in its 60 meter deep crater. Aegean Odyssey then sails up the estuary of the River Dart to the idyllic town of Dartmouth. Situated at the mouth of the River Dart, the small fishing port of Dartmouth is a quintessential English seaside town. With its Elizabethan streets, charming harbour and unspoilt beaches, this is truly a magical place.
CRUISE INTO THE HEART OF THE FRENCH COUNTRYSIDE Small-ship cruising at its best Enjoy the benefits of small-ship cruising as Aegean Odyssey sails inland up the River Loire to Nantes and a spectacular land tour to the picturesque Chateaux Country of the Loire Valley. Centred on the historic towns of Saumur, Amboise and Tours, the chateaux of the Loire valley are the ultimate expression
of French thought and design from the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment. You will visit some of the most elaborate and magnificent chateaux including Chateau d’Azay le Rideau, Chateau Amboise and world-famous Chateau de Chenonceau. Built in 1513, Chenonceau is known as the “Ladies Castle” as it was built, furnished and saved from the Revolution by ladies. This fascinating trip includes an overnight hotel stay in Amboise and also includes sightseeing and time to wander in the charming towns of Saumur and Amboise. Plus a visit to the historic city of Tours on the lower reaches of the Loire.
Saumur, Pays de la Loire
England’s stunning West Country coast Framed by some of England’s most beautiful coastline and cliff-top villages, the historic port of Falmouth is your first port of call in the United Kingdom. Fortified by Henry VIII and the place where news of Nelson’s victory – and his death – at Trafalgar was landed, Falmouth is soaked in history. From here you will drive through the Cornish countryside to a place that can lay claim to being one of the modern wonders of the world. The Eden Project was opened in April 2001 and is the world's largest global garden. The scene is breathtaking worlds in microcosm – a cultural melting pot of global plants, both wild and
Then enjoy a specially arranged visit to Britannia Royal Naval College. Dartmouth’s isolation has over the years, provided an ideal spot to prepare young men for Naval service, dating back to 1863. It was here that the present Queen first met Prince Philip, when as Princess Elizabeth she came with her parents to the Passing Out Parade. This magnificent building, set in 126 acres of landscaped gardens, overlooks the River Dart and the sea.

voyages to antiquity ~
our philosophy THE BENEFITS OF SMALL-SHIP CRUISING
A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE ON BOARD
In contrast to the massive vessels cruising to and from the major ports of the Mediterranean, we have a ship adapted for island and coastal cruising. This means that Aegean Odyssey can visit smaller, less crowded harbours, sail closer to the coast enabling you to really appreciate the magical views, and even cruise upriver to reach some amazing cities.
Evenings on board There will be a string trio, pianist, casual dancing before and after dinner, and occasional visiting local entertainment. No casino or disco. The officers’ introductory cocktail party is casual without the usual formalities, and there will be plenty of opportunities to socialise with your fellow passengers and meet the officers.
As we carry an average of 350 passengers, our ship is ideal for those who dislike travelling around with hordes of people. This boutique-style cruising tends to be more expensive to operate than larger ships, but if you like to avoid crowds, wander around beautiful islands, cruise remote inlets and rivers, visit charming villages and explore ancient sites that are inaccessible to others, then Aegean Odyssey is the ideal ship.
Dress code Suggestions for what to wear during nights and evenings aboard are found in the Essential Travel Information booklet we send you with your travel documents. Resort casual is the general recommendation, however, there may be occasions where a jacket for men and cocktail attire for ladies is appropriate. Wine is included with dinner on board As we are in the Mediterranean, we do not think it is appropriate to serve dinner without wine. Wines are from Italy, France, Spain or Greece and are included. Other vintages are available at reasonable prices.
Language on board The ship’s language is English and you can expect fellow passengers to be mainly from the UK, US, Canada and Australia with a sprinkling of enthusiasts from Europe. Technology We ask that mobile phones and laptops be used discreetly in the interest of fellow passengers. The internet room is always open for those who cannot resist contact with the outside world. Children Our cruises are destination focused and not designed for children under the age of 12. Tipping Always a difficult subject. We have decided to include all tips to cabin stewards and restaurant staff. You may wish to show your appreciation to individuals offering exceptional service (totally optional).
A good night’s sleep We place particular importance on the standard of bedding in cabins irrespective of category. Fine duvets, covers and sheets, ample soft pillows and quality towels can be expected and your cabin steward is always ready to make changes if you desire.

OUTSTANDING ITINERARIES
SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDED IN YOUR FARE
All voyages have been meticulously planned by the Voyages to Antiquity staff in conjunction with noted historians. Plus, with frequent evening and overnight stays in port, there’s the opportunity to enjoy an after-dinner stroll ashore.
Shore excursions are included in virtually every port of call – in the few cases where they are not, it’s because we feel that your time ashore is best spent exploring on your own. As well as giving you a choice of included excursions in certain places, additional visits will be offered at a supplementary cost.
This year we are delighted to include some brand new destinations like Valencia, and cruises from the Mediterranean to Lisbon and the Atlantic coast of Portugal, plus river cruising into the heart of France’s wine and chateaux countries. The invasion beaches of Normandy and the West Country of England also feature. We are continuing – and even increasing – our highly successful cruises to Morocco, the south of Spain, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Western Sahara Desert, plus Aegean Odyssey will once more sail up the Guadalquivir River to moor in the heart of Seville. Included pre- & post-cruise land stays Many departures also have pre- and/or post-cruise hotel stays in such wonderful places as Rome, Athens, Lisbon, Venice, Seville, Amman and Petra, providing guests with a wonderful chance to relax before their cruise or the perfect opportunity to explore one of these remarkable cities at the end of their journey.
14
This is an important part of Voyages to Antiquity's philosophy as it ensures that our guests always see the most important sites and are escorted by the very best guides. In Athens, for example, you will not miss the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, and when in Rome your tour will always include the Colosseum and St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Nauplia
QUALITY HOTELS ASHORE is the gateway to the ancient sites of Mycenae and Epidaurus, while Sicily and Italy offer a wealth of sightseeing possibilities and, depending on your itinerary, you’ll visit the remarkable cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain and Mont Saint-Michel on the coast of Normandy – both important pilgrimage centres. Our sightseeing programmes are outstanding, but can be strenuous; a reasonable level of fitness is, therefore, required. Our shore excursion brochure and on-board Daily Journal will indicate the level of fitness required on any given day. Individual QuietVox headsets On all shore excursions, the expert guides will share their knowledge with the group using QuietVox. Through your individual headset, these devices allow you to hear the tour leader clearly even at the busiest sites. Voyages to Antiquity was one of the first cruise lines to operate this service. We trust this means that you won’t miss a thing and your visits to these wonderful places will be as memorable and exciting as possible.
Voyages to Antiquity places great emphasis on the quality of accommodation ashore. We have selected some of the best 4- and 5-star hotels for your included land stays. In Rome, the Excelsior opens on to one of Rome’s prestigious streets, the Via Veneto, and the Londra & Cargill is within walking distance of the Roman Forum. In Athens, the Grande Bretagne is a grand hotel in the finest tradition with views of the floodlit Acropolis from the roof garden. The same view can be seen from the King George, one of Athens’ most prestigious hotels located in the heart of the city. In Marrakesh, the Sofitel Palais Imperial is a haven of 5-star luxury set in lush, fountained gardens full of fragrant herbs, bougainvilleas and a palm-ringed pool. For a full description of the hotels we use, please see pages 62-63.

RIVER CRUISING AND OVERLAND TOURS
EXCLUSIVE SPECIAL EVENTS
Because of its size, Aegean Odyssey has the ability to navigate the islands and smaller ports of the Mediterranean, Aegean and Aegean Seas. She also has the ability to sail inland to take you to the heart of Europe’s great cities.
An exclusive evening in Venice For cruises visiting Venice we have arranged an exclusive, private evening visit to St Mark’s Basilica with special lighting illuminating the spectacular mosaics.
When we visit the Andalusian city of Seville, Aegean Odyssey cruises up the Guadalquivir River to berth in the heart of the city. In the South of France, we cruise close to the Cote d’Azur and dock in the glamorous resort of Nice or sophisticated Monte Carlo. In the Adriatic, we sail close to the coast of the beautiful Kornati Islands and tie up at the small harbour of Korcula. In the Aegean, we view Mount Athos monasteries and cruise the fabulous Greek Islands. In western France you’ll sail into the Gironde and the Loire Rivers to visit spectacular chateaux and taste some of the local wines, and in England we take you into the River Dart to explore the beautiful west country of Devon and Cornwall. As part of our dedication to great value and to showing you the best sites of the ancient world, some of our departures include land tours to enhance your experience.
A taste of Morocco During the visit to Fez you will enjoy a typical Moroccan lunch in the old medina at the Palais Menebhi, a private palace originally built as a home to a Moroccan grand vizier. Sicily's palatial splendour In Palermo, there will be an opportunity for a private visit to Palazzo Gangi, the magnificent Baroque palace famous for the banqueting scene in Visconti’s film of Tomasi di Lampedusa’s classic novel, The Leopard. You will need to register interest as group sizes are limited. A donation of $55 per person towards restoration is required. Seville – river cruising and home of flamenco Aegean Odyssey can navigate the Guadalquivir River, passing through the marshy lowlands known as ‘Las Marismas,’ and berth in the heart of Seville, capital of Andalusia and home to the Spanish flamenco dance. To fully appreciate the atmosphere of this wonderful city we have included a lively flamenco performance one evening on board ship. Vineyards and wine tasting In Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, Jerez and Oporto you’ll be able to try the vintages and tour the vineyards.

Experience the best of
small-ship cruising
On board Aegean Odyssey you will experience the finest traditions of cruising. She is a mid-size vessel carrying around 350 guests and features wide, teak decks and spacious public rooms. With openseating dining, inside or al fresco, several bars and lounges to relax, and the immaculate service of a friendly and attentive crew, you can be sure of a superior cruise experience. Cruise in comfort – relax in style You’ll discover an intimate and relaxed atmosphere throughout the ship. By day the spacious decks provide the perfect
20
place to unwind as you sail to the scenic harbours and ancient sites of the Mediterranean. Public rooms offer an understated elegance. The Ambassador Lounge is where our speakers inform and our musicians entertain, whilst the Charleston Lounge is the perfect place to meet friends – old and new – with light music and, perhaps, a little dancing. The top deck is a wonderful spot to watch the waves go by during the day, or enjoy a nightcap looking at the stars in the evening. The well-stocked library is beautifully appointed with wood panelling, and is
regularly updated by Oxford-based booksellers Blackwells. There is an extensive range of volumes covering the history, art, culture and philosophy of the countries you will visit. In addition, there is an extensive collection of reference books, modern and classic fiction, and general interest volumes. Newspapers are delivered daily via satellite and are available in the library. You will also find a selection of board games from Monopoly to chess. For those passengers who want to keep in touch with friends, check their emails or find out what is happening in the world,
there is an internet centre. For those in need of a little shopping, there is also a well-stocked boutique. A welcome difference One of the things that sets us apart from the rest is that we plan our cruise itineraries to maximise your time in port with many late evening sailings and overnight stays. This will give you the opportunity to plan an evening on board and ashore – perhaps dinner in a harbourside taverna in one of the Mediterranean’s delightful resorts, or just an after-dinner stroll for a nightcap as you watch the world go by.

Days at sea: relax or revive
Renowned lecture programme
During days at sea you may simply wish to enjoy the sun on the Lido Deck or cool off in the outdoor pool. Perhaps borrow a book from the library and read in one of the cool lounges. Alternatively, you could start the day with an early morning yoga session or plan a visit to the Athena Health Spa and Gym. Here you will find the latest gym equipment for a serious workout, a sauna, and a good selection of therapies and treatments to refresh and renew you during your cruise. More pampering can be found in the hairdressers and beauty centre.
If you want to attend to the mind not the body, there will be a programme of lectures – held in the Ambassador Lounge – designed to not only inform and entertain but also to bring to life the wonderful sites you will visit. There will normally be a number of guest speakers on your cruise, each with a different area
of expertise. Prior to arrival in each port of call, there will be a port briefing to inform you of the sites, culture and history of your next destination. Nights to remember Start your evening with a cocktail in the Lido Bar as you watch the sun go down and meet old and new-found friends. Or enjoy an aperitif in the Charleston Lounge while being entertained by our resident trio. As well as being one of the world’s most historically interesting and naturally beautiful destinations, the Mediterranean is also home to a range of unsurpassed culinary traditions.
This gastronomic culture of using the very best fresh local ingredients cooked in a simple but delicious and healthy style is the inspiration for the restaurants on Aegean Odyssey. Your cabin comforts Your on-board comfort is one of our prime concerns. Our wide category of cabins feature flat-screen television, a personal safe and hairdryer – and all offer plush bedding for your comfort. Most outside cabins have windows rather than portholes and our balcony cabins offer additional comforts and conveniences, see panel for extra Balcony Class benefits.
BalconyCLASS As well as adding a new dimension of luxury to our cabins and staterooms, we have created a special level of accommodation entitled “Balcony Class.” In addition to the standard cabin features mentioned, guests in Balcony Class (categories A to D) will also enjoy: • STATEROOM OR SUITE WITH BALCONY • FREE FLIGHT UPGRADE TO BUSINESS CLASS* • A WELCOME BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE & PETIT FOURS • REFRIGERATOR STOCKED WITH SOFT DRINKS • COMPLIMENTARY BOTTLED WATER • ROBE AND SLIPPERS • MOLTON BROWN BATHROOM AMENITIES • PRIORITY SIGHTSEEING BOARDING * Subject to availability and not applicable to itineraries featuring flights to Amman

After all is said and done, what passengers love most about Aegean Odyssey is the warm and intimate atmosphere. Ships, like people, have personalities. Some are proper and formal. Others offer the anonymity of a large hotel. On board Aegean Odyssey you are greeted as a returning family member even if it’s your first time on board.
26
it’s our people
that make all the differece Home away from home
At your service
You’ll find smiles and welcomes from everyone from the Captain to your cabin steward. And unlike a vast megaliner, it is easy to socialise and meet fellow passengers whose passions and interests are similar to your own.
Ask any world traveller where they receive the best service and they will undoubtedly answer the Far East. Of all the nationalities in that part of the world, it is the Filipinos who carry the highest reputation for attention to detail. Fluent in English and always serving with a smile, our Filipino crew will win your hearts.
Your cabin steward will refresh your stateroom before you even realise you need it. Your waiter will remember whether you take tea or coffee, and the barman whether you like your Martini shaken or stirred. They, and the rest of our officers and crew, are dedicated to making your holiday a delightful experience.

Aegean Odyssey and Voyages to Antiquity. We were on the Athens to Istanbul cruise and visited incredible sites. This was right up my husband’s alley but, l am now certain that, if l want to see something ancient again, l will look in the mirror! This particular cruise was jam-packed with excursions and it offered a huge number of very serious “must-sees”. Aegean Odyssey was, as always, special and we were so proud to be a part of it! By now we know quite a few of the crew and passengers whom we have met on previous cruises. It was a real “coming home” experience.” J.O. South Africa

“ I have recently returned from The Isles of Greece cruise and feel disposed to write and congratulate all concerned in providing me with a truly memorable experience. I was a single passenger on my first ever cruise, and can honestly say that I could not find even the smallest fault with the whole experience.
“ WOW! Wonderful in every way! I came by myself, but never felt alone. The ship was very comfortable and easy to get around. The shore excursions far exceeded my expectations! I look forward to another adventure on this intimate ship.” R.S. - USA
The ship, its facilities, the food on board, all the crew and the excursions were better than I dared to expect, and
strong emphasis on shore excursions (which are included in the package price!) that stress cultural history at ports of call. And while I remember – no bingo, no casino, no photographer, no chorus line and no Baked Alaska! Need I say more?” M.R. - Canada
“I
would highly recommend the experience, you really should try and go. The ship is very comfortable, the food was excellent and the service was
excellent as well. We are having a reunion with the group next Saturday and I am going to propose that we consider another trip together.” V.D. - Canada As a classicist, I was looking for some “fun too and this cruise has certainly delivered. Big ships aren’t for me and the size of this ship means you can get to know people very quickly. It’s hard to think of anything on this cruise which hasn’t been a highlight for me. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. The scenery has been stunning and the places – without doubt I would recommend it.” M.M. - UK
“ You don’t need to be a history buff –
anyone with an interest in culture will enjoy this cruise. In a way it inspires you to learn more and delve deeper into the places we have visited. The ship is such a nice size – not too big and very informal – and it’s a delightful atmosphere.” P.M. - UK
“ It was awesome!!!!! I am very happy
with the way the cruise panned out – well organised, great food and wine. Great sights to visit.” A.P. - Australia

Graeco-Roman Jerash was built by Alexander the Great in the 2nd century BC and was a flourishing city of the Decapolis, the league of ten Roman cities. The city lay untouched for centuries and is very well preserved – here you can see colonnaded streets, temples and a theatre which once held 5,000 spectators. Your drive to Petra takes a scenic route via the Dead Sea – pause for lunch and take a dip in the sea's salutary buoyant waters. Your first glimpse of the ancient rose-red city of Petra is one you will not forget, as you emerge from the mile-long path that winds between two overhanging cliffs to stand in front of the impressive colonnaded Treasury. Embarking Aegean Odyssey in the port of Aqaba, you can relax in the spring sunshine as the ship cruises the Red Sea and enjoy a daytime sailing through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean. CYPRUS TO CRUSADER RHODES AND MINOAN CRETE A short journey from Limassol takes you to the Graeco-Roman city of Kourion. With breathtaking views over the Mediterranean, Kourion contains some remarkable monuments including the vast 2nd-century AD stadium and the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates. Nearby Mykonos, with its lively cafes and shops, is the perfect contrast. On arriving in Santorini you take the short drive to Akrotiri. This ancient Minoan outpost is a remarkable site and the excavations include the remains of a sophisticated civilisation dating back to the 16th century BC. On the Greek mainland the first port of call is Gythion to visit ancient Sparta and then to Nauplia. From here you will travel to the ruins of Mycenae or the famous Greek theatre at Epidaurus. CLASSICAL ATHENS Your two-night hotel stay in Athens includes a full morning's guided tour of the city's ancient citadel, the Acropolis. Built during the "Golden Age" of Athens between 447-438BC, the Acropolis represents the magnificent achievements of Athenian culture. You will also visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum and have free time to explore the city's other remarkable sites such as the ancient Agora and the National Archaeological Museum.

S A OOK V E EA R P E £ 7 U P LY R 0 TO CA 0 BI N CLASSICAL ATHENS Your three-night hotel stay in Athens includes a full-morning's guided tour of the city's ancient citadel, the Acropolis. Built during the "Golden Age" of Athens between 447-438BC, the Acropolis represents the magnificent achievements of Athenian culture during this remarkable era. You will also visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum and head out of Athens to the site of ancient Corinth and the remarkable amphitheatre at Epidaurus.
The next port of call is Rhodes and a chance to explore the Old Town and the Citadel of the Knights of St John. There is also the opportunity to visit the Acropolis at Lindos. The island of Delos is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Greece, and nearby Mykonos, with its cafes and shops, is the perfect contrast. Tiny Patmos is a significant Christian pilgrimage site. Its Cave of the Apocalypse is where John of Patmos is said to have written the Book of Revelations.
A GREEK ISLAND ODYSSEY: FROM HYDRA TO PATMOS Hydra is a true gem and is the only Greek island that is free of wheeled vehicles. Here donkeys not cars and scooters rule. Among the Aegean's most spectacular sights are the cliffs of Santorini rising from a great half-moon caldera. The island was also home to the Minoan settlement of Akrotiri: dating from the 16th century BC this ancient city was wonderfully preserved under volcanic ash. The heyday of Minoan civilisation (2000-1600BC) was marked by the construction of great palaces, the best known is Knossos on the island of Crete. Excavations began in 1899 by the British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans, who controversially “restored” the palace with his own eccentric ideas of Minoan interior design.
PHILIPPI AND BYZANTINE THESSALONICA Philippi is where the apostle St Paul delivered his first sermon in Europe, sowing the seeds of Christianity. The Roman forum, completely excavated, is from after Paul's time. Thessalonica (also known as Salonica) became part of the Byzantine Empire in AD 395 and is today Greece’s second city. Your tour will concentrate on its Byzantine heritage, including the 5th-century basilica Agios Dimitrios, the Rotonda that was built as a mausoleum for Emperor Galerius in the 4th century, the mosaics of the Agia Sofia and the Museum of Byzantine culture. METEORA AND SKIATHOS From the port of Volos, you will travel by road to see the famous Byzantine monasteries built on the sandstone towers at Meteora. In all there are twenty-four monasteries at Meteora (which means “suspended in the air”) and although many have fallen into ruin, some of the remaining are adorned with beautiful frescoes. Skiathos is a delightful Greek port and the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing stroll or a drink in one of the many tavernas.

“The light of Greece opened my eyes” HENRY MILLER St Paul embarked on three missionary journeys in his lifetime. His travels took him throughout southern Asia Minor, to the lands surrounding the Mediterranean and as far west as Rome and on to modern-day Spain. This voyage will take you to several of the places the Apostle visited including Corinth and Thessalonica. Plus other places of great spiritual significance, including the beautiful island of Patmos where St John wrote the Book of Revelation, the sacred island of Delos, and Philippi where St Paul delivered his first sermon in Europe, sowing the seeds of Christianity. So there you have it: a journey that takes you to the inspiring sites on St Paul’s missionary travels and cruises to the Greek Islands, and some of the most beautiful spots in the Aegean.

Built during the "Golden Age", the Acropolis represents the magnificent achievements of Athenian culture during this remarkable era. You will also visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum and have plenty of free time to explore the city's other sites. Gythion is the first port of call for our tour to Sparta and Mystra, followed by Katakolon for a morning's tour to Ancient Olympia. The first Olympic Games took place here in 776BC and the site was also an important religious centre, as Mount Olympus was believed to be the home of Zeus. Return to the ship for a lunchtime departure and a leisure afternoon cruising the Ionian Sea en route to Ithaca where you will be able to spend a relaxing evening ashore. ELEGANT CORFU AND ANCIENT BUTRINT With cricket still played on the green, the legacy of British rule is evident in Corfu Town as you will see during the morning tour. You will also visit the Byzantine Museum housed in the Church of Panagia Antivouniotissa. The archaeological site of Butrint has been occupied since at least the 8th century BC. Roman Emperor Augustus founded a colony here, and Butrint’s medieval history was turbulent as the town was involved in the power struggles between Byzantium and successive Norman, Angevin and Venetian states. It is consequently a fascinating archaeological and historical site.
NATURAL AND ANCIENT WONDERS OF DALMATIA After cruising deep into the stunning fjord of Kotor Bay in Montenegro, the ship arrives at Dubrovnik for a free evening ashore. Next morning, your sightseeing features the magnificent fortifications including the 10th century city walls, the Baroque Church of St Blaise and the Cathedral which boasts Titian’s Assumption over the main altar. The Croatian town of Split is home to one of the greatest of all Roman sites, the Palace of Diocletian. There will be a morning tour of this remarkable palace including the Temple of Jupiter and Diocletian’s Mausoleum. In the afternoon, there is the option of visiting one of the true gems of the Dalmatian coast, the delightful island of Trogir. The Romans, Byzantines and Venetians all coveted the port of Zadar and as a result it is rich in fascinating monuments. Your morning walking tour of the town will include the Roman forum and the Byzantine masterpiece, the Church of St Donat. BYZANTINE RAVENNA AND VENICE In the 5th century AD the power of Rome was in decline and in 402 the capital of the Western Roman Empire was moved to Ravenna. The city is famous for its superb early Christian mosaics and buildings including the Church of San Vitale and the 5th-century Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. Whether you are seeing the great sites of Venice such as the Piazza San Marco, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace for the first time or revisiting them, there is no better way to end your trip than with two nights in this lovely city. On your first evening, you’ll enjoy a spectacular private visit to St Mark’s Basilica.

THE GRAND TOUR

“The Grand Tour... enrich the mind with knowledge” THOMAS NUGENT (Grand Tour 1749) This meticulously planned itinerary combining Italy and the Dalmatian Riviera echoes the idea of the “Grand Tour”, a practice popular in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that introduced Europeans and Americans to the art and culture of ancient Greece, France and Italy. Then, as now, Rome and Venice were not to be missed, and Florence and the ruins of Pompeii were also popular destinations. As well as the "Grand Tour" favourites, this cruise takes you to the Renaissance treasures of Urbino, the spectacular coast of Dalmatia, Corfu and the elegant Greek theatre at Taormina in Sicily. Starting with a two-night hotel stay in Venice, this grand voyage concludes with a sail along the French Riviera to the glamorous resorts of Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo – a fitting end to this modern-day Grand Tour.

THE BEAUTY OF DALMATIA Split is home to one of the greatest of all Roman sites, the Palace of Diocletian, and the first of our ports of call along the Dalmatian coast. Next is Dubrovnik, which Lord Byron described as “ the Pearl of the Adriatic”, where sightseeing takes you on a walk around the walled city to visit the Church of St Blaise and the Cathedral that boasts Titian’s Assumption over the main alter. THE MAGIC OF SICILY AND THE MYSTERIES OF POMPEII Our early morning arrival in Taormina on the island of Sicily, gives us the opportunity to visit the magnificent Greek theatre with its breathtaking views of Etna. An afternoon cruise takes you through the Strait of Messina and past the beautiful Lipari

You are then free to lunch on your own before an afternoon walking tour to some of the city’s other wonderful sites including the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. From the port of Livorno, you travel to Florence for a very special day visiting the city’s remarkable galleries, buildings and museums including the Galleria dell'Accademia, the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi (avoiding the queues thanks to your group reservation). The major construction was carried out between 1335 and 1364 by Pope Benedict XII and his successor, Pope Clement VI. Founded by the Romans, the fortified city of Carcassonne became the largest walled stronghold of the Middle Ages – its remarkable towers and ramparts are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ROMAN AND MOORISH SPAIN Included morning sightseeing of Barcelona will be dedicated to exploring the Roman sites of the city including the Temple of Apollo and Roman remains in the Gothic Quarter. You then have time to explore on your own. Perhaps visit extraordinary Sagrada Familia, the massive Catalan church designed by the visionary architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction of this iconic building began in 1882 and is still ongoing. Enjoy the charm of Valencia’s squares and hidden corners on a walk through this fascinating city. You’ll see the City of Arts and Sciences, the Museu de les Ciencies and Plaza de la Reina. Discover the historical centre, visit the Cathedral, and one of the most astonishing Gothic civil buildings in the world, La Lonja,
which was declared Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO. Begun in 1238, the Alhambra in Granada was the last capital of the Moors in Spain. Your excursion includes the Royal Palace and the Generalife with its splendid gardens. CADIZ & A TASTE OF SHERRY There has been a human settlement on the site of Cadiz for over 4,000 years and some of this city’s rich history will take centre stage during this morning’s tour. Highlights include the 18th-century Baroque cathedral and the splendid Moorish-style Alameda de Apodaca gardens. From the port of Cadiz travel to Jerez de la Frontera (so called because it stood at the frontier between the Moorish and Christian realms), a town famous for the production of sherry and, after a tour of the city, you will visit one of the famous bodegas – Gonzalez Byass – for a sherry tasting. CRUISING INTO SEVILLE Aegean Odyssey then sails inland through the Andalusian countryside along the Guadalquivir River to dock in the very heart of Seville. You will visit the Royal Palace Alcazar, the oldest residence of Spanish royalty that is still in use today and a building that amalgamates influences starting from the Arabic period and the late Middle Ages, right through to the Renaissance, Baroque and the nineteenth century. In free time, perhaps visit the Cathedral, the third largest in Europe, its Gothic interior housing the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The city of Cordoba, one of the world’s great destinations, contains one of the wonders of the medieval world, the Great Mosque, and a very wellpreserved Roman bridge.

“The interweaving of the notions of Europe and Christendom is a fact of history”
NORMAN DAVIES
From the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba and the Gothic interior of Seville Cathedral to the immense statue of Christ the King in Lisbon and the pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela, this voyage highlights the central role played by Christianity in the history of Europe. Along the way, Aegean Odyssey will cruise the River Guadalquivir from Seville, the River Gironde to Bordeaux, and follow the wonderful West Country coastline of England. These destinations also offer two very contrasting gastronomic experiences: wine tasting at a Bordeaux chateau and indulging in a cream tea in Cornwall. Recent history also plays a part as you visit the D-Day invasion beaches on the Normandy coast of northern France and Sir Winston Churchill’s country house, Chartwell, in the county of Kent in England.

You’ll also visit the sumptuous basilica of St Peter’s in the Vatican. In the afternoon you are free to visit some of Rome’s many other wonders – the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and Sistine Chapel should be on your list. Sorrento is an excellent base from which to visit Pompeii, which was engulfed by lava erupting from Mt Vesuvius in August 79AD. Alternatively, you can visit the nearby town of Herculaneum that also perished during the eruption. THE TREASURES OF SICILY AND CORFU Sicily is a celebration of the greatest achievements of Western civilisation: the Norman Royal Palace and Palatine Chapel in Palermo, and the dazzling mosaics of Monreale Cathedral are followed by the magnificent Greek theatre at Taormina with its breathtaking views of Mt Etna. The legacy of British rule is evident in Corfu Town as you will see during this morning’s tour. You will visit the Byzantine Museum and the elegant Esplanade. CLASSICAL GREECE AND THE GREEK ISLANDS Mentioned in The Odyssey and inhabited since the Neolithic age, Pylos is a treasure trove of historical sites and in 1827 its bay was the site of the Battle of Navarino. Gythion is the port for our excursion to ancient Sparta and Mystras. From Nauplia, you will travel to stand on the stage of the famous
theatre at Epidaurus, or alternatively explore the ancient remains of the once great city of Mycenae, home of Agamemnon. Santorini is famous for its whitewashed houses and beautiful scenery, but it is also home to the Minoan ruins at Akrotori. FROM SACRED DELOS TO CLASSICAL ATHENS Delos is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Greece and it was once the paramount religious sanctuary of the ancient Greek world. The tour explores the island’s temples and, of course, the famous stone lions. Nearby Mykonos, with its lively tavernas and shops, is the perfect contrast for a leisurely afternoon ashore. Disembarking Aegean Odyssey in the port of Piraeus, it is a short drive to the Greek capital, Athens, and the start of our 3-night hotel stay featuring plenty of included sightseeing. One morning you’ll be driven to Athens’ most famous ancient site, the Acropolis.

“The creator made Italy from designs by Michelangelo” MARK TWAIN Of all the countries of the Mediterranean, Italy is perhaps the most alluring: its art, architecture, history and, of course, food have seduced travellers for centuries. You’ll journey from the dazzling splendour of Byzantine Venice and the evocative ruins of Pompeii to the hill towns of Urbino and Lecce. You will also enjoy the outstanding natural beauty of the Adriatic as you cruise to Split and the walled port of Dubrovnik, once described by George Bernard Shaw as “Paradise on Earth”. The ancient site of Butrint in Albania and hedonistic Corfu follow en route to Taormina in Sicily. It is then on to ancient Paestum and the glorious Amalfi coastline, followed by romantic Sorrento and Pompeii. Your journey ends with a two-night hotel stay in Eternal Rome.

S A OOK V E EA R P E £ 7 U P LY R 0 TO CA 0 BI N VENICE AND RENAISSANCE URBINO Your holiday starts with a two-night hotel stay in Venice and a guided stroll around its heart – Piazza San Marco. During the rest of your stay, why not visit the stunning island of Torcello or simply walk to the Rialto? One evening, you will enjoy an exclusive visit to St Mark's Basilica: not to be missed. Perched on two hills, the walled town of Urbino contains some true treasures. Here you will visit the birthplace of Raphael, tour the Palazzo Ducale, Italy's most beautiful Renaissance palace, and view the magnificent Duomo. NATURAL AND ANCIENT WONDERS OF THE ADRIATIC The Croatian town of Split is home to one of the greatest of all Roman sites, the Palace of Diocletian. There will be a morning tour of this remarkable palace including the Temple of Jupiter and Diocletian’s mausoleum. In the afternoon, there is the option of visiting one of the true gems of the Dalmatian coast, the delightful island of Trogir. Included sightseeing in Dubrovnik features the magnificent fortifications including the 10th century city walls, the Baroque Church of St Blaise and the Cathedral. Set in the south-eastern tip of Italy's boot, Lecce is a city of architectural treasures. These include the 25,000-seat Roman amphitheatre and the stunning Palazzo Tamborino with its seductive secret garden. The Albanian archaeological site of Butrint has been occupied since at least the 8th century BC. The legacy of British rule is evident in Corfu Town as you will see during the afternoon tour. You will also visit the Byzantine Museum housed in the church of Panagia Antivouniotissa.
SICILY, PAESTUM AND AMALFI After a relaxing day at sea, you come to Taormina on the island of Sicily. With its mountainous background and spectacular views of Etna, the GraecoRoman theatre is our morning destination. In the afternoon you cruise through the Strait of Messina and later pass by volcanic Stromboli – hoping for a magical firework display. From Salerno there’s a visit to Paestum. Legend has it that Paestum was founded by Jason of Argonaut fame. What is undoubted, however, is the majesty of the three Greek temples that were the heart of this 6th century Greek city. In the afternoon, you cruise along the delightful Amalfi coast to Sorrento. MYSTERIES OF POMPEII & THE GRANDEUR OF ROME From cliff-top Sorrento you will drive to the magnificent remains of Pompeii. The town, some of which dates back to the 6th century BC, was engulfed by lava erupting from Vesuvius in August 79AD. From the casts of the bodies of its inhabitants, to the ancient surgical implements and beautiful frescoes, nowhere else gives us such an insight into the lives of the ancients. Alternatively, you can visit the nearby town of Herculaneum which perished in the same eruption. There will also be time to visit the wonderful isle of Capri or the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. Disembark for a two-night hotel stay in the Eternal City. Your morning tour starts at the Colosseum, constructed in 80AD by Emperor Vespasian as a means of gaining the love of the people by building a venue for gladiatorial games with a capacity of 50,000 spectators. Finally, to the Basilica of St Peter’s in Vatican City.

Morocco, including hotel stays in Marrakesh and Fez, is at the heart of this Autumn cruise. Winston Churchill wrote that he was “captivated by Marrakesh,” and this tour aims to show you why: walking through an ancient medina is most certainly an unforgettable experience. After visits to Casablanca, Rabat and the Roman ruins of Volubilis, you arrive at the medieval capital of Morocco, Fez, with its labyrinthine Fes el-Bali medina, 14th century religious colleges and ancient ramparts. Rejoin Aegean Odyssey in Tangier as the ship makes her way to the Spanish port of Malaga. From here you travel by road to Granada to visit the Alhambra and Generalife. Your journey begins, however, in the elegant Andalusian city of Seville with a visit to historical Cordoba.

“My mind dances with hopes of sun-filled glades and sweet Madeira” ANON In 1951, Winston Churchill wanted to retreat somewhere ‘warm, bathable, comfortable and flowery’ where he could paint and work on his war memoirs. Wisely, he chose Madeira. You reach the island having sailed from the Andalusian port of Malaga via the historical Spanish mainland port of Cadiz and en route to the Canary Islands. Here you will discover a little-known aspect of the islands as you travel to the Caldera de Taburiente National park and journey deep inland to the fascinating interior of Lanzarote. In Morocco, you’ll visit Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and Marrakesh, plus the lesser-known but equally exciting city of Taroudant. There is also an included visit to Granada’s Alhambra Palace and time to call at the port of El Marsa, from where you will venture into the sand dunes of the Western Sahara desert.

S A OOK V E EA R P E £ 7 U P LY R 0 TO CA 0 BI N ANDALUSIAN GRANADA AND MALAGA Your holiday starts with an overnight stay in the picturesque port of Malaga, followed by either a tour of Malaga and its Picasso Museum, or an excursion into the heart of Andalusia to Granada, the last capital of the Moors in Spain. Here you will visit the Alhambra Palace and the Generalife with its splendid gardens before returning to Malaga and sailing through the Straits of Gibraltar en route to the port of Cadiz. Cadiz was the gateway to the New World and its old town reflects the city’s rich history with its cluster of narrow streets opening on to charming small squares. After city sightseeing you will head for Jerez de la Frontera and visit a famous bodega for a sherry tasting. ATLANTIC ISLANDS – MADEIRA & THE CANARIES After a relaxing day’s sail from the Spanish mainland, your visit to Madeira includes a tour of the dramatic scenery of the island’s interior, a visit to the picturesque fishing village of Camara de Lobos, and a trip to Cabo Girao to experience Madeira’s breathtaking coastline. There is also plenty of free time to take a cocktail at Reid’s Hotel, visit the Botanical Gardens or taste Madeira’s famous wine. Sail into the harbor of Santa Cruz on La Palma island and you are greeted by the island’s stunning volcanic landscape. Here you can either explore La Palma or venture inland to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. On Lanzarote, you will discover a littleknown aspect of the Canary Islands as you travel to the stunning Timanfaya National Park, the famous Fire Mountains
of Lanzarote. The unique landscape and amazing geological features have made this one of the most important national parks in Spain. Lanzarote may be best known for its beaches but there is a lot more to the island. You will also have the opportunity to appreciate the coastline of Los Hervideros, where the lava from the eruption flowed down to the sea and, as it cooled, created some strange shapes. LAAYOUNE AND THE WESTERN SAHARA DESERT From the port of El Marsa, you’ll drive across the sand dunes to the city of Laayoune with its unique SpanishSaharan architecture and colourful markets. Your journey will take you through one of the world’s great desert landscapes. THE BEST OF MOROCCO Arrive at the southern Moroccan port of Agadir and drive through the fertile Souss Valley to the old imperial city of Taroudant. Explore the medina with its ancient souks, before an afternoon drive through the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Your visit here includes labyrinthine Old Quarter and the Marjorelle Gardens. Continue on to Casablanca to rejoin Aegean Odyssey. Located on the Atlantic coastline, Rabat, meaning “fortified place”, is Morocco’s capital. Highlights include the Kasbah of the Oudaias, the Royal Palace, and the old town founded by the Carthaginians, conquered by the Romans and later settled by the Arabs. In Tangier, your tour includes the caves of Hercules – a place of stunning natural beauty and where Hercules is said to have rested after finishing his 12 labours – and the Kasbah.

Voyages to Antiquity has the right to refuse or revoke passage to anyone who, in its judgment, is in a physical condition that is beyond the care that can be provided or made available.
DIETARY RESTRICTIONS Please advise us at the time of booking of any special dietary restrictions or specific food allergies. Guests with specific food allergies must advise Voyages to Antiquity in writing at the time of deposit, and while all possible is done to meet the requirement(s), the guest is expected
to exercise due caution when dining, either on board or during pre-, post-, or full-day excursions. The ship can meet most general requests such as low cholesterol, diabetic, and salt- or fat-free. While all dietary requests are provided to our local suppliers and hotels in advance Voyages to Antiquity cannot guarantee fulfillment on included meals at hotels or local restaurants on pre-, post- or full-day excursions.
SHORE EXCURSIONS AND LAND ARRANGEMENTS Shore Excursions: Included in most ports of call. Where suitable, some excursions will be available at an additional cost. Descriptions of the tours will be sent with your final documents or made available on the Voyages to Antiquity website. Lunches on full-day tours can be a picnic lunch provided by Aegean Odyssey or at a local restaurant. On some tours, where lunchtime is in a place offering a wide choice of restaurants, we have not included lunch and left it up to you (such as in Rome, Florence and Urbino). In places such as Venice and Athens, you may wish to remain in the city at the end of the morning sightseeing rather than return to the ship and in these instances lunch will also be under your own arrangements. Please note that these programmes are planned far in advance of your visit, and we reserve the right to change, cancel, or substitute an included excursion at any time. There is no refund or credit available for non-use of an included excursion.
SMOKING Smoking is only permitted on Belvedere Deck aft. Smoking is prohibited in all other areas including cabins, balconies, and on excursion motorcoaches. All included hotel rooms are requested by Voyages to Antiquity as non-smoking; however this is not always possible and Voyages to Antiquity cannot be held responsible if the guest’s preference is not available on arrival.
FLIGHT ARRANGEMENTS
CURRENCY, PAYMENTS AND GRATUITIES ON BOARD A “cashless” system is operated on board Aegean Odyssey with all purchases charged to your cabin account. The final account can be settled in UK£ or US$ at the end of the cruise. Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards, and Travellers Cheques can be used for settlement; however American Express cardholders will be charged a 2% surcharge. Personal cheques and some kinds of debit cards cannot be accepted. Gratuities for the services you receive on board Aegean Odyssey from your cabin steward and dining room staff are included in your cruise fare. Naturally, guests at their own discretion may wish to show their appreciation to individuals offering exceptional service. Please note that a service charge of 12.5% is automatically added to your account for any bar service.
ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES Cabins and suites feature European 2-pin round outlets with 220 voltage. Hair dryers are provided in your cabin and electric rollers, curling irons, electric shavers, and other small appliances can be used. Adapters/converters are available on board for conversion to 110 volts if required; however, we recommend you bring your own in the event supplies are limited. For safety reasons, travel irons are not allowed.
LAUNDRY AND PRESSING Valet service is available for laundry and pressing. A laundry bag and order form are provided in your cabin.
COMMUNICATIONS Aegean Odyssey is fitted with the latest satellite communication technology and direct dial telephones in all cabins. There is also an internet centre on Belvedere Deck and charges are based on connection time.
CHILDREN Voyages to Antiquity cruise programmes are destination focused and designed for adults. There are no facilities for children on board Aegean Odyssey.
DINING ARRANGEMENTS Dining arrangements on Aegean Odyssey are flexible as both restaurants have an “open seating” policy with meal times arranged to suit the ship’s time in port and the shore excursion programmes. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the Terrace Café, while lunch and dinner only are available in the Marco Polo Restaurant. On days when full-day shore excursion tours are operated, lunch will only be available in either the Terrace Café or Marco Polo Restaurant. Reservations can be made for dinner in the Marco Polo Restaurant.

All fares are per person in UK£, are valid at time of printing, February 2016, and include all items detailed in the ‘Your Cruise Fare Includes’ panel on page 71. There are single cabins available in many categories and these are clearly shown on the deck plan. There are special prices for these cabins – as shown above. As they are limited in number, it is recommended that you book early. BOOKING TERMS & CONDITIONS These Booking Terms and Conditions, together with our privacy policy and any other written information we brought to your attention before we confirmed your booking, form the basis of your contract with Voyages to Antiquity (UK) Limited (ATOL 10093) and (ABTA Y2206) (“we” or “us”). Please read them carefully as they set out our respective rights and obligations. In these Booking Conditions references to "you" and "your" include the first named person on the booking and all persons on whose behalf a booking is made or any other person to whom a booking is added or transferred. Holidays not involving air travel are financially protected by Voyages to Antiquity (UK) Limited’s bond with ABTA, membership Number Y2206. Holidays involving air travel are financially protected by Voyages to Antiquity (UK) Limited’s bond with the Civil Aviation Authority ATOL 10093. Please also refer to clause 18 entitled ‘Financial Protection’. 1. BOOKING AND PAYING FOR YOUR ARRANGEMENTS A booking is made with us when we have received your signed booking form and the required deposit payment. The deposit will be 10% of the total holiday cost and will be non-transferable and nonrefundable. If your booking is made within 90 days of departure full payment is due at the time of booking. We reserve the right to return your deposit and decline to issue a confirmation at our absolute discretion. A binding contract will come into existence between you and us as soon as we have issued you with a booking confirmation that will confirm the details of your booking and will be sent to you. If your arrangements include a flight, we will issue you with an ATOL Certificate and a confirmation. Upon receipt, if you believe that any details on the ATOL Certificate, confirmation or any other document are wrong you must advise us immediately as changes cannot be made at a later date and it may harm your rights if we are not notified of any inaccuracies in any document within ten days of our sending it out (five days for tickets). The balance of the cost of your arrangements (including any applicable surcharge) is due not less than 90 days prior to scheduled departure. If we do not receive this balance in full and on time, we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled by you in which case the cancellation charges set out in clause 8 below will become payable. There is no charge for payment of deposit by credit card but a charge of 1.7% for Visa and Mastercard and 2.5% for American Express cards will be made for balance payments. No charges are made for payments using debit cards. 2. ACCURACY We endeavour to ensure that all the information and prices both on our website and in our brochures are accurate; however occasionally changes and errors occur and we reserve the right to correct prices and other details in such circumstances. You must check the current price and all other details relating to the arrangements that you wish to book before your booking is confirmed. 3. INSURANCE We do not sell insurance as there are many good deals available in the market, plus many people now have annual policies. However, it is a condition of the contract with us that every member of the booking has travel insurance in force for the entire duration of the holiday, covering at least the cancellation of the booking and providing medical cover for illness or injury, repatriation while overseas and loss of baggage.

arrangements and to rates, dues, taxes or fees chargeable for services such as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports and airports any or all of which may result in a variation of your voyage/travel arrangements price. We will absorb and you will not be charged for any increase equivalent to 2% of the price of your travel arrangements, which excludes insurance premiums and any amendment charges and/or supplementary services or travel arrangements. You will be charged for the amount over and above that. If this means that you have to pay an increase of more than 10% of the price of your confirmed travel arrangements (excluding any insurance premiums, amendment charges and/or additional services or travel arrangements), you will have the option of accepting or cancelling and receiving a full refund of all monies paid or changing to another voyage. There will be no change made to the price of your confirmed voyage/ travel arrangement within 30 days of your departure nor will refunds be paid during this period. Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above, by more than 2% of your confirmed holiday cost, then any refund due will be paid to you. 5. FITNESS TO TRAVEL ON THE CRUISE SHIP, PREGNANCY, DISABILITY OR REDUCED MOBILITY, MEDICAL/MOBILITY EQUIPMENT Our priority is the comfort and safety of our passengers. You are asked at the time of booking to provide as much information as possible regarding any assistance that may be required in the port and on board the vessel. We are entitled to administer a health questionnaire prior to boarding. You must advise prior to boarding the vessel if you are suffering any symptoms. All passengers must follow the vessels instructions and procedures relating to all matters including health, safety, hygiene and security. In order to ensure that the carrier is able to carry passengers safely and in accordance with applicable safety requirements established by international, EU or national law or in order to meet safety requirements established by competent authorities including flag state every passenger warrants that he/she is fit to travel by sea and that his/her conduct or condition will not impair the safety of the cruise ship or inconvenience the other passengers. We and the carrier reserve the right to require any passenger to produce medical evidence of fitness to travel in order to assess whether that passenger can be carried safely in accordance with applicable international, EU or national law. If it appears to us or the carrier, the Master or the cruise ship's doctor that a passenger is for any reason unfit to travel, likely to endanger safety, or likely to be refused permission to land at any port, or likely to render the carrier liable for passenger maintenance, support or repatriation, then the carrier or the Master shall have the right to take any of the following courses: (i) Refuse to embark the passenger at any port; (ii) Disembark the passenger at any port; (iii) Transfer the passenger to another berth or cabin; (iv) If the Cruise Ship doctor considers it advisable, to place or confine him/her in the Cruise Ship's Hospital or to transfer the passenger to a health facility at any port, at the passenger's expense (v) to administer first aid and administer any drug, medicine or other substance or to admit and/or confine the passenger to a hospital or other similar institution at any port provided that the ship’s doctor and/or Master considers that any such steps are necessary.
Details of your policy must be entered in your booking form in the space provided in order for a booking to be confirmed.
Where a passenger is refused embarkation as a result of safety and/ or fitness to travel, neither we nor the carrier shall be liable for any loss or expense occasioned to the passenger thereby, nor shall the passenger be entitled to any compensation from the carrier.
4. PRICING The price of your voyage, air package holiday arrangements, or other travel arrangements was calculated using exchange rates in effect 1 April, 2015. We reserve the right to amend the price of unsold holidays at any time and correct errors in the prices of confirmed holidays.
‘Disabled Person’ or ‘Person with Reduced Mobility’ includes any person whose mobility when using transport is reduced as a result of any physical disability, intellectual or psychosocial disability or impairment, or any other cause of disability, and whose situation needs appropriate attention and adaption to his particular needs for the service made available to all passengers.
The price of your confirmed voyage, or travel arrangement is subject at all times to changes in transport costs such as fuel, and any other airline cost changes which are part of our contracts with airlines (and their agents), cruise ship operators and any other transport provider; and to changes in the currency exchange used to calculate your
Passengers who need assistance and/or have special requests or need special facilities or equipment with regard to accommodation, seating or services required or their need to bring medical equipment must notify us at the time of booking. If the passenger cannot be carried safely and in
accordance with applicable safety requirements then we and or the carrier can refuse to accept a passenger or embarkation of a Disabled Person or Person with Reduced Mobility on the grounds of safety. Where strictly necessary for the safety of the passenger we and or the carrier can require before it accepts the booking that a passenger is assisted by an accompanying person who is fit and able to provide the assistance required. Those passengers confined to wheelchairs must furnish their own standard size wheelchairs and must be accompanied by a travelling companion fit and able to assist them. Pregnant women are highly recommended to seek medical advice prior to travel at any stage of their pregnancy. Women who are up to 23 weeks pregnant at the end of the cruise are required to produce a medical certificate of fitness to travel. The carrier cannot for safety reasons carry pregnant passengers of 24 weeks or more by the end of the cruise. 6. CUTTING YOUR VOYAGE SHORT If you are forced to return home early, we cannot refund the cost of any services you have not used. If you cut short your voyage and return home early in circumstances where you have no reasonable cause for complaint about the standard of accommodation and services provided, we will not offer you any refund for that part of your holiday not completed, or be liable for any associated costs you may incur. Depending on the circumstances, your travel insurance may offer cover for curtailment and we suggest that any claim is made directly with them. 7. CHANGES BY YOU If you wish to change any part of your booking arrangements after our confirmation invoice has been issued, you must inform us as soon as possible. Whilst we will do our utmost to assist you, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet your requested change. Where we can meet a request, all changes will be subject to an administration fee of £50 per person, per change or £100 per person, per change if the request is made within 60 days of departure as well as any applicable rate changes or extra costs incurred by ourselves and any other charges imposed by the airline or any other of our suppliers. Where we are unable to assist you and you do not wish to proceed with the original booking we will treat this as a cancellation by you. A cancellation fee may be payable. Please also note that a change of departure date within 60 days prior to departure will be treated as a cancellation by you. 8. IF YOU CANCEL You, or any member of your party, may cancel your travel arrangements at any time. If you or any other member of your party decides to cancel your confirmed booking, the first named person on the booking must notify us in writing. Your notice of cancellation will only take effect when it is received by us. Since we incur costs in cancelling your arrangements, you will have to pay the applicable cancellation charges up to the maximum shown below (The cancellation charge detailed is calculated on the basis of the total cost payable by the person(s) cancelling excluding insurance premiums and amendment charges which are not refundable in the event of the person(s) to whom they apply cancelling):Period before departure cancellation notice received by us

No refunds will be made for tickets or services booked but not used, or for insurance premiums or alteration charges. Note: Certain arrangements may not be amended after they have been confirmed and any alteration or cancellation could incur a cancellation charge of up to 100% of that part of the arrangements in addition to the charge above. 9. CHANGES AND CANCELLATION BY US 9.1 It is unlikely that we will have to make any changes to your travel arrangements, but we do plan the arrangements many months in
advance. Occasionally, we may have to make changes and we reserve the right to do so at any time. Most of these changes will be minor and we will advise you of them at the earliest possible date. We also reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements. For example, if the minimum number of participants required for a particular travel arrangement is not reached, we may have to cancel it. However, we will not cancel your travel arrangements less than 90 days before your departure date, except for reasons of force majeure or failure by you to pay the final balance. 9.2 Most alterations will be minor and while we will do our best to notify you of any changes as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before your departure, we will have no other liability to you. Examples of “minor changes” include the following when made before departure: Where a flight has been booked, any change in the advertised identity of the carrier(s), flight timings, and/or aircraft type; a change of outward departure time or overall length of your holiday of twelve hours or less; a change of accommodation to another of the same standard or classification. 9.3 Occasionally we may have to make a major change to your confirmed arrangements. ”Examples of “major changes” include the following, when made before departure: A change of accommodation to that of a lower standard or classification for the whole or a significant part of your time away; a change to your initial embarkation or disembarkation port to a different geographical area; a change of outward departure time or overall length of your arrangements of twelve or more hours; where a flight has been booked, a change of UK departure airport, as long as that change is not from one London airport to another London airport. London airports are Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City; a significant change to your itinerary affecting the majority of the destination. 9.4 If we have to make a major change or cancel, we will tell you as soon as possible and if there is time to do so before departure, we will offer you the choice of: a) accepting the changed arrangements; b) having a refund of all monies paid; or c) accepting an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us, if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value). You must notify us of your choice within 7 days of our offer. If you fail to do so we will assume that you have chosen to accept the change or alternative booking arrangements. Very rarely, we may be forced by "force majeure" (see clause 11) to change or terminate your arrangements after departure. If this situation does occur, we regret we will be unable to make any refunds (unless we obtain any from our suppliers), pay you compensation or meet any costs or expenses you incur as a result. 10. OUR RESPONSIBILITIES 10.1 We will accept responsibility for the arrangements we agree to provide or arrange for you as an “organiser” under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 as set out below. Subject to these booking conditions, if we or our suppliers negligently perform or arrange the services which we are obliged to provide for you under our contract with you, as set out on your confirmation invoice, we will pay you reasonable compensation. The level of such compensation will be calculated taking into consideration all relevant factors such as but not limited to: following the complaints procedure as described in these conditions and the extent to which ours or our employees’ or suppliers’ negligence affected the overall enjoyment of your holiday. Please note that it is your responsibility to show that we or our supplier(s) have been negligent if you wish to make a claim against us. 10.2 We will not be responsible or pay you compensation for any injury, illness, death, loss, damage, expense, cost or other claim of any description if it results from:(a) the act(s) and/or omission(s) of the person(s) affected; (b) the act(s) and/or omission(s) of a third party unconnected with the provision of the services contracted for and which were unforeseeable or unavoidable; or (c) unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond ours or our supplier(s) control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised; or (d) an event which either ourselves or suppliers could not, even with all due care, have foreseen or forestalled.
10.6 Travel by sea is governed by the provisions of the Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea 1974 as amended in 1976 (“The Athens Convention) and where applicable from 1 January 2013 EU Regulation 392/2009 relating to the Liability of carriers of passengers by sea in the event of accidents (“EU Regulation 392/2009). For the purposes of the Athens Convention and EU Regulation 392/2009 we are the Contracting Carrier. The Athens Convention and EU Regulation 392/2009 limit the Carriers’ liability for death or personal injury or loss or damage to luggage and makes special provision for valuables. It is presumed that luggage has been delivered to you undamaged unless written notice is given to us and/or the performing Carrier. a) in the case of apparent damage, before or at the time of disembarkation or redelivery; or b) in the case of damage which is not apparent or of loss, within 15 days from the date of disembarkation or redelivery or from the time when such redelivery should have taken place. Damages for cabin luggage payable by the Carrier are limited up to the Athens Convention limit of 833 SDRs or 2250 SDRs if EU Regulation 392/2009 applies. Limits shall be reduced in proportion to any contributory negligence by the passenger and by the maximum deductible specified in Article 8 (4) of the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009. Copies of the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 are available from us on request.
10.3 Where death and or personal injury and or loss of or damage to property occurs during carriage by air or by sea then liability and the extent of damages recoverable will be dealt with by International Conventions as set out in paragraphs 10.5 and 10.6 and not otherwise. 10.4 As set out in these booking conditions we limit the maximum amount we may have to pay you for any claims you may make against us which do not involve personal injury, illness or death. Except where loss of and/or damage to luggage or personal possessions is concerned if we are found liable to you on any basis the maximum amount we will have to pay you is twice the price (excluding insurance premiums and amendment charges) paid by or on behalf of the person(s) affected in total unless a lower limitation applies to your claim under clause 10.6 below. This maximum amount will only be payable where everything has gone wrong and you have not received any benefit at all from your holiday. 10.5 Where any claim or part of a claim (including those involving death or personal injury) concerns or is based on any travel arrangements (including the process of getting on and/or off the transport concerned) provided by any air, sea, rail or road carrier or any stay in a hotel, the maximum amount of compensation we will have to pay you will be limited. The most we will have to pay you for that claim or that part of a claim if we are found liable to you on any basis is the most the carrier or hotel keeper concerned would have to pay under the international convention or regulation which applies to the travel arrangements or hotel stay in question (for example, the Warsaw Convention as amended or un-amended and the Montreal Convention for international travel by air and/or for airlines with an operating licence granted by an EU country, the EC Regulation on Air Carrier Liability No 889/2002 for national and international travel by air, the Athens convention for international travel by sea). Please Note: Where a carrier or hotel would not be obliged to make any payment to you under the applicable International Convention or Regulation in respect of a claim or part of a claim, we similarly are not obliged to make a payment to you for that claim or part of the claim. When making any payment, we are entitled to deduct any money which you have received or are entitled to receive from the transport provider or hotelier for the complaint or claim in question. Copies of the applicable International Conventions and Regulations are available from us on request. We do not have any liability to you in any circumstances in which the carrier is liable to you by virtue of the Denied Boarding Regulation 2004 which applies solely to the operating carrier. Any liability we may have to you under our contract with you, arising out of the same facts, is limited to the remedies provided under the Regulation as if (for this purpose only) we were a carrier; any sums you receive from the carrier will be deducted from any amount due from ourselves.
In so far as we may be liable to you in respect of claims arising out of carriage by sea we shall be entitled to all rights, defences, immunities and limitations available, respectively, to the actual carrier and under the relevant Conventions, and nothing in these Booking Conditions shall be deemed as a surrender thereof. To the extent that any provision in these Booking Conditions is made null and void by the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 or any legislation compulsorily applicable or is otherwise unenforceable, it shall be void to that extent but not further. Our liability will not at any time exceed that of the carrier under its Conditions of Carriage and/or applicable or incorporated conventions or other legislation.
(a) which on the basis of the information given to us by you concerning your booking prior to our accepting it, we could not have foreseen you would suffer or incur if we breached our contract with you; or (b) which relate to any business. 11. FORCE MAJEURE Except where otherwise expressly stated in these booking conditions we will not be liable or pay you compensation if our contractual obligations to you are affected by any event which we or the supplier(s) of the service(s) in question could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. These events can include, but are not limited to war, threat of war, civil strife terrorist activity and its consequences or the threat of such activity, riot, the act of any government or other national or local authority including port or river authorities, industrial dispute, lock closure, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, chemical or biological disaster and adverse weather, sea, ice and river conditions and all similar events outside our or the supplier(s) concerned control. Advice from the Foreign Office to avoid or leave a particular country may constitute Force Majeure. 12. PASSPORTS, VISAS, HEALTH FORMALITIES & TRAVEL DOCUMENTS It is your responsibility to check and fulfill the passport, visa, health and immigration requirements applicable to your itinerary. We can only provide general information about this. You must check requirements for your own specific circumstances with the relevant Embassies and/or Consulates and your Doctor as applicable. Requirements do change and you must check the up to date position in good time before departure. You must notify us regarding next of kin details and any other important information we request before you travel. If you have made independent travel arrangements you accept responsibility for joining the ship in good time, regardless of any change to the sailing time or date, or to the itinerary. We are not able to refund monies paid to us, or any third party acting on our or your behalf, or make compensation or other payments where, for whatever reason, you fail to join the ship. Passengers going ashore are responsible for re-boarding the ship prior to departure from port.
Any liability in respect of death and personal injury and loss of and damage to luggage which we may incur to you whether under our contract with you, in accordance with these Booking Conditions or otherwise, shall always be subject to the limits of liability contained in the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 for death/personal injury of 46,666 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) or 300,000 SDR under Athens Convention or 400,000 SDRs under EU Regulation 392/2009 except in the case of liability for war or terrorism 250,000 SDRs.
Most countries now require passports to be valid for at least 6 months after your return date. If your passport is in its final year, you should check with the Embassy of the country you are visiting. For further information contact the Passport Office on 0870 5210410 or visit www.passport.gov.uk
We are not liable for valuables, monies or other securities including jewellery and watches. If they have been deposited with the reception desk on the ship for safe keeping and a receipt issued then in those limited circumstances the Carriers liability will be as set out in the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009. The use of safes onboard a Vessel is not a deposit with the ship or with us under the Athens Convention or EU Regulation 392/2009 or otherwise. The limits are 1200 SDRs pursuant to Athens or 3,375 SDRs pursuant to EU Regulation 392/2009.
We do not accept any responsibility if you cannot travel, or incur any other loss because you have not complied with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities. You agree to reimburse us in relation to any fines or other losses which we incur as a result of your failure to comply with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities.
10.7 Where there is any loss of or damage to property including luggage which is not covered by any international convention and where liability is not limited by reference to any enactment, terms of conditions, then any legal liability that we may have for any such losses or damage will not exceed £500 per guest. 10.8 Notwithstanding anything to the contrary elsewhere in these Booking Conditions, we shall not in any circumstances be liable to you for any loss or anticipated loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of use, loss of contract or other opportunity nor for any other consequential or indirect loss or damage of a similar nature. 10.9 It is a condition of our acceptance of liability under this clause that you notify any claim to ourselves and our supplier(s) strictly in accordance with the complaints procedure set out in these conditions. 10.10 Where any payment is made, the person(s) receiving it (and their parent or guardian if under 18 years) must also assign to ourselves or our insurers any rights they may have to pursue any third party and must provide ourselves and our insurers with all assistance we may reasonably require. 10.11 Please note we cannot accept any liability for any damage, loss or expense or other sum(s) of any description:
Up to date travel advice can be obtained from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, visit www.fco.gov.uk
13. SPECIAL REQUESTS Any special requests must be advised to us at the time of booking e.g. diet, room location, a particular facility on board a voyage etc. You should then confirm your requests in writing. Whilst every effort will be made by us to try and arrange your reasonable special requests, we cannot guarantee that they will be fulfilled. The fact that a special request has been noted on your confirmation invoice or any other documentation or that it has been passed on to the supplier is not confirmation that the request will be met. Failure to meet any special request will not be a breach of contract on our part unless the request has been specifically confirmed. We do not accept bookings that are conditional upon any special request being met. 14. COMPLAINTS We make every effort to ensure that your holiday arrangements run smoothly but if you do have a problem during your holiday, please inform the relevant supplier (e.g. ship’s officer), or our local representative immediately who will endeavour to put things right. If the issue is not resolved locally it is essential you notify our head office in writing, quoting the booking reference number and all other relevant information, at the earliest opportunity and no later than 28 days after your return, to enable any complaint to be investigated. Please keep your letter concise and to the point. It will assist us to quickly identify your concerns and speed up our response to you.
Failure to follow the procedures set out in this clause may affect our and the applicable supplier’s ability to investigate your complaint, and will affect your rights under this contract. 15. BEHAVIOUR If in our opinion or in the opinion of any other person in authority, your behaviour or that of any member of your party is causing or is likely to cause distress, danger or annoyance to any of our other guests or any third party or damage to property, or to cause a delay or diversion to transportation, we reserve the right to terminate your booking arrangements with us immediately. In the event of such termination our liability to you and/or your party will cease and you and/or your party will be required to leave your cruise or other service immediately. We will have no further obligations to you and/or your party. No refunds for lost services will be made and we will not pay any expenses or costs incurred as a result of termination. You and/or your party may also be required to pay for loss and/or damage caused by your actions and we will hold you and each member of your party jointly and individually liable for any damage or losses caused by you or any member of your party. Full payment for any such damage or losses must be paid directly to the applicable supplier prior to departure from the service in question. If you fail to make payment, you will be responsible for meeting any claims (including legal costs) subsequently made against us as a result of your actions together with all costs we incur in pursuing any claim against you. We cannot be held responsible for the actions or behaviour of other guests or individuals who have no connection with your booking arrangements or with us. 16. CONDITIONS OF SUPPLIERS Some of the services which make up your holiday are provided by independent suppliers. Those suppliers provide these services in accordance with their own terms and conditions which will form part of your contract with us. Some of these terms and conditions may limit or exclude the supplier's liability to you, usually in accordance with applicable International Conventions. Copies of the relevant parts of these terms and conditions are available on request from ourselves or the supplier concerned. 17. ABTA ARBITRATION We are a member of ABTA, membership number Y2206. We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. We can also offer you an arbitration scheme for the resolution of disputes arising out of, or in connection with this contract. Further information on the Code and arbitration can be found at www.abta.com/consumer-services/travel_problems/arbitration The arbitration scheme is arranged by ABTA and administered independently. It provides for a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on you in respect of costs. Full details will be provided on request or can be obtained from the ABTA website. 18. FINANCIAL PROTECTION We are required to provide security for the monies that you pay for the arrangements booked from us and for your repatriation in the event of our insolvency. We provide this security for flight inclusive holidays by way of a bond held by the Civil Aviation Authority under ATOL number 10093. When you buy an ATOL protected holiday from us you will receive an ATOL certificate listing the services that are financially protected. We provide financial security for holidays not including flights by way of our membership of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA Number Y2206). 19. FLIGHTS In accordance with EU Regulations we are required to advise you of the carrier(s) (or, if the carrier(s) is not known, the likely carrier(s)) that will operate your flight(s) at the time of booking. Where we are only able to inform you of the likely carrier(s) at the time of booking, we shall inform you of the identity of the actual carrier(s) as soon as we become aware of this. 20.
