great historic cities, legendary islands & outstanding natural beauty “The grand object of travelling is to see the shores of the Mediterranean” DR SAMUEL JOHNSON

o

ver previous years, Voyages to Antiquity’s Mediterranean, small-ship cruises, combining top-class service, meticulously planned itineraries and expert guest speaker program have proved so popular that we have decided to expand our horizons. For 2016, we have developed a series of voyages that explore the very best historic, gastronomic and cultural destinations in Europe. From the classical elegance of ancient Greek architecture and the splendor of the Byzantine Empire to the monumental fortifications of the Norman crusaders and great cathedrals of Europe, our aim is to bring to life the exciting and inspiring history of Europe.

Inside this brochure you will not only find all you need to know about our ship, Aegean Odyssey, and our policies and style, but also an insight into the extraordinary destinations and sites you will visit. You will also discover the wonderful river and coastal cruising experiences on offer. The itineraries have been written in a way that we hope will enhance your appreciation of the cruises, and the introductory pages outline our philosophy and the historical and cultural background of the dazzling civilizations of antiquity we visit. With so much included in our cruises (see page 17), you’ll also appreciate excellent value.

award-winning journeys ~

unforgettable experiences Voyages to the historic, cultural and artistic heart of Europe These fantastic journeys range from Athens, Rome, Istanbul and the other great centers of antiquity to the Greek Islands, the glamorous Cote d’Azur, the wine regions of Portugal and France, and the romantic Cornish coast in the west of England. Another unique aspect of our itineraries is the inclusion of exceptional land and sea combinations. Along the way you may enjoy cocktail parties in historic palazzos, special events in some of the most stunning historical buildings in the world, expertly guided tours of the great treasures of antiquity and social events such as sherry tasting in one of Spain’s top bodegas. So there you have it: awardwinning cruising in comfort and style, visits to places you will never forget and fun and companionship ashore and on board.

4

The wonders of Athens and cruising the Greek Islands It is in Athens, perhaps the greatest city of antiquity, where our story begins. The poet John Milton called Athens "the eye of Greece, mother of arts and eloquence," and it was here in the 5th century BC that the genius and creativity of the ancient Greek world shone with unprecedented brilliance. This was the time of the great statesman Pericles who organized the construction of the Acropolis, of the dramatists Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripedes and, of course, of the philosopher Socrates. Through visits to all the key sights and the commentary of expert guides and lecturers, your visit to this truly remarkable place will bring to life

this "Golden Age" of Western civilization. After the vibrancy of Athens, the tranquility of the Greek Islands offers a wonderful contrast and, as you sail through the sparkling waters of the Aegean, you have time to meet your fellow passengers, get to know the ship, and relax into life on board. As well as stunning natural beauty, the isles of Greece offer some of the most impressive sites from this region's fascinating history. On Delos, legendary birthplace of Apollo and the paramount religious sanctuary of the ancient Greek world, you can walk along the Terrace of the Lions with its famous marble guardian statues and explore the classic Doric Temple of the Delians.

By contrast, nearby Mykonos offers the more sybaritic experience of vibrant tavernas and bustling shops. Then, a visit to Crete takes you back to the time of the Minoans, one of the earliest civilizations of antiquity, and the ornate palace at Knossos. Charming Patmos, the Crusader stronghold of Rhodes and spectacular Santorini also feature as the ship makes its way to Turkey.

Ephesus and the Aegean Coast The influence of the ancient Greeks and the later Roman Empire reached throughout the eastern Mediterranean and some of the most impressive relics of these great cultures are to be found on the coast of Turkey. Ephesus is rightly one of the most famous Graeco-Roman sites in the world:

it was here that the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, once stood and St Paul delivered his celebrated sermons. Once the capital of the Roman Province of Asia, Ephesus is home to the magnificent Library of Celsus and the largest theater in the ancient world. Once conquered by Alexander the Great, the ancient city of Pergamon with its spectacular hill-top setting and fabulous monuments is another highlight close to the Turkish coast. A call at the port of Canakkale reminds you of how strategically vital these waters have been for centuries. Here, on either side of the Hellespont, you find the sites of two conflicts separated by a few miles but thousands of years: Troy and the World War I battle of Gallipoli.

ISTANBUL: CITY OF EMPIRES

I

“ f the Earth were a single state,” Napoleon wrote, “Istanbul would be its capital.” Since its foundation as Byzantium around 660BC, this city has been at the center of history: for nearly sixteen centuries following its re-establishment as Constantinople in 330AD, it has served as an imperial capital for the Roman (330–395), the Byzantine (395–1204 and 1261–1453), the Latin (1204–1261), and the Ottoman (1453–1922) empires. Mooring overnight in the heart of the city, you could not be better placed to appreciate and explore this truly special place. Our expert guides ensure that you do not miss any of Istanbul’s many highlights from the splendid Hagia Sophia to the sprawling home of the sultans, Topkapi Palace. Any spare time you might have can be well spent taking a boat trip along the Bosphorus or haggling in the Grand Bazaar.

Explore Dalmatian fjords, Roman palaces and Adriatic islands As you make your way to or from Venice, one of the great advantages of small-ship cruising becomes apparent as the size of Aegean Odyssey means that you sail as close as possible to some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in the world. Cruising in coastal waters allows you to appreciate the true magnificence of Kotor Bay. Cutting through the Dinaric Alps in Montenegro, this dramatically beautiful inlet stretches over 20 miles inland and is Europe’s southernmost fjord.

Along the Dalmatian coast Aegean Odyssey calls at two fascinating and architecturally pleasing ports, Dubrovnik and Split. The beauty of Dubrovnik moved the writer George Bernard Shaw to describe it as “Paradise on Earth” and indeed it’s hard to imagine anyone becoming jaded by the city’s marble streets, baroque buildings and charming people. Further up the Adriatic coast, the highlight of the visit to Split is without doubt touring the vast Palace of Diocletian. Completed in 305AD, the limestone and marble palace was built by the Emperor Diocletian for his retirement, and the complex comprized three temples, Diocletian’s massive mausoleum (now the Cathedral of St Dominus) and enough accommodation to house 9,000 people.

exciting destinations ~

spectacular sights Sparkling Ravenna and serene Venice On the Adriatic’s Italian coast lies one of Europe’s most dazzling architectural treasures. Briefly the capital of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD, Ravenna is famous for its superb early Christian mosaics and buildings. Your visits to the Byzantine masterpiece Church of St Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placida will thrill and inspire. The first doge (duke) of Venice was elected in 726AD and the Venetian republic existed for over a millennium until 1797. Often referred to La Serenissima, the Most Serene Republic, the Venetians acquired an empire of trade and commercial interests. This wealth funded the city you see today. Unlike cruises on larger vessels that offer a brief daytime stop in this wonderful place, our itineraries include a two-night hotel stay in the heart of Venice so you have time to really explore the city, furthermore, your visit will include an exclusive evening visit to St Mark’s Cathedral.

Italy’s “Dolce Vita” and France’s glamorous Cote d’Azur No other country in Europe combines the best of art, culture, gastronomy and style with quite the same panache as Italy. Here you can enjoy a scoop of the most delicious

6

ice cream in the world as you admire some of the greatest treasures of antiquity or sip a Campari while sitting in the sunshine on the stunning Amalfi Coast. Whether you are standing on the stage of the Greek theater at Taormina in Sicily overlooking Mount Etna or marveling at the extensive ruins of tragic Pompeii, the

joy of Italy and its way of life will entrance you. Furthermore, from the grandeur of Imperial Rome to the Renaissance splendor of Florence, Italy’s great cities are places of charm and wonder. Few will forget setting sight on the monumental Colosseum and the sprawling Roman Forum or the great Florentine Renaissance palaces and their numerous masterpieces of Western art. Sailing west, Aegean Odyssey cruises along the sophisticated French Riviera to the bustling port of Marseilles.

Provence: land of olive trees and lavender This is an ideal place to not only explore the lavender fields and charming villages

of Provence but also for visiting some of southern France’s most interesting places. Chief among these is the medieval town of Avignon. Surrounded by well preserved 800-year-old stone ramparts, graceful Avignon was once the seat of papal power and this honor bestowed the city with a legacy of magnificent art and architecture, none grander than the massive medieval fortress and papal palace, Palais des Papes. It is also home to the Pont d'Avignon – of nursery-rhyme fame – that spans halfway across the River Rhône. The town is also criss-crossed with ancient cobbled alleyways lined with inviting boutiques and opening out onto leafy squares overflowing with cafe tables.

Elegant Arles with its splendid Roman ruins including the famous amphitheater and Carcassonne with its impressive city walls and fortress also await. The natural beauty of the Nice area and its mild Mediterranean climate have made it a popular destination since the 18th century. The city's main seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais (‘the Walkway of the English') owes its name to some of the city’s earliest visitors, the English aristocracy. The picturesque Nicean surroundings have attracted not only those in search of relaxation, but also those seeking inspiration. The clear air and soft light has been of particular appeal to some of

Western culture's most outstanding painters, such as Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse. Their work is commemorated in many of the city's museums, including the Musee Matisse and Musee des Beaux-Arts. An overnight stay also gives you the opportunity to spend some time in a place synonymous with the glamor and opulence of the South of France, Monte Carlo.

7

ancient cultures ~

fascinating history

A taste of Spain – from Moorish palaces to river cruising With its cosmopolitan lifestyle, stunning architecture, fabulous food and fascinating historical sites, Barcelona is understandably one of Europe’s most popular destinations. Highlights of your visit include the Roman sites of the city including the Temple of Apollo and Roman remains in the Gothic Quarter and, a view of perhaps the most extraordinary of the city’s landmarks, the Sagrada Familia, the massive Catalan church designed by the visionary architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction of this iconic building began in 1882 and is still ongoing.

8

A short cruise along the coast brings you to the tranquil and sophisticated city of Valencia. With its magnificent 13th-century cathedral, combination of ancient and avant-garde architecture, and open green spaces, this charming city never fails to delight the visitor. In the year 711, Moorish forces from Morocco and Algeria invaded Spain and in seven years conquered the Iberian Peninsula, eventually conquering territory that comprised most of Spain, Portugal and parts of France. Their rule lasted until 1492 and the Moors left behind a remarkable legacy of elaborate palaces, mosques and gardens. Two of the greatest treasures from this time are the Alhambra in Granada and the Great Mosque in Cordoba.

Spain is rightly famous for its great food and wine, and a stop at Jerez allows you to sample one of the country’s most famous products. In the convivial atmosphere of the Bodegas Gonzalez Byass you will try some of Spain’s very best sherry. Before leaving Spain, Aegean Odyssey takes you on a spectacular journey cruising up the Guadalquivir River into the heart of the Andalusian city of Seville.

From Moroccan souks to Madeira, the Canaries and Sahara Desert Morocco, with its rich culture, fascinating history and exotic atmosphere should be high on everyone’s travel list. Combining cruising with an exciting land-tour ensures that you see the very best of this wonderful

country including the labyrinthine souk and the Marjorelle Gardens of Marrakesh, the medieval city of Fez, the Roman ruins of Volubilis and a scenic drive through the Atlas Mountains. After the exotic hustle and bustle of Morocco, Madeira and the Canary Islands offer a complete change of pace. Madeira, once favored by Sir Winston Churchill as the perfect place to paint and relax, is a gem of an island some 250 miles north of Tenerife. Settled by the Portuguese in 1419 and ceded to the British in the early nineteenth century, Madeira’s wonderful climate, lush gardens and famous wine have proved popular with visitors for centuries. Likewise, the year-round climate, dramatic volcanic landscapes, picturesque

upland villages and amazing flora of La Palma and Fuerteventura in the Canaries have made these islands rightly popular. El Marsa is a fishing port on the coast of the Western Sahara and from here you drive roughly 8 miles through the haunting and beautiful desert landscape of sand dunes to the city of Laayoune (whose Arabic name means “water source”).

The sounds and sights of Portugal Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. The Lisbon experience encompasses so many things, from visiting magnificent museums and exquisite

Located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal, Oporto became a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. A colorful city, Oporto is dotted with medieval relics, soaring bell towers, extravagant baroque churches and stately beaux-arts buildings. The historic center is the Ribeira district, a place typified by old shop fronts, village-style plazas and old houses where Roman ruins lurk beneath

the foundations. Oporto is also home to some excellent museums and galleries including the Álvaro Siza Vieira’s Museu de Arte Contemporânea and Rem Koolhaas’ Casa da Música.

An unforgettable pilgrimage The capital of the Spanish province of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela is one of the most important places in Christendom as it is reputed to be the place where St James, one of the twelve Apostles of Christ, is buried (see box). It was in the 8th century AD that the remains were identified as those of Saint James the Great, and their acceptance as such by the Pope and Charlemagne. From then on, this settlement was not just a city, but a holy city, and one of the main centers of Christian pilgrimage.

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA: A PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE

A

ccording to legend, the apostle Saint James the Great brought Christianity to the Iberian Peninsula. In 44AD he was beheaded in Jerusalem and his remains were later brought back to Galicia, Spain. His tomb is said to have been rediscovered in 814AD by the hermit Pelagius after he witnessed strange lights in the night sky, and King Alfonso II ordered the construction of a chapel on the site. Construction of the present cathedral began in 1075 and the last stone was laid in 1122. The cathedral was expanded and embellished with additions in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

inaugural visits ~

new adventures La Belle France: From wine tasting in Bordeaux to the chateaux of the Loire After sailing along France’s Atlantic Coast, Aegean Odyssey cruises up the River Gironde to berth in center of Bordeaux. The city boasts the most beautiful streets in France and its magnificent 18th-century center prompted Queen Elizabeth II to call the city “the very essence of elegance” on her last visit. Bordeaux is also rightly regarded as the wine capital of the world, producing some of the greatest vintages available. In Bordeaux, wine is at the center of life and on your visit you will enjoy an expertly guided tasting at one of the best chateaux. This is the perfect opportunity to try some of the greatest wines and learn about the vineyards while getting to know your fellow passengers. Further up the coast is the city of Nantes, our gateway to an unforgettable land tour

to the picturesque Chateaux Country of the Loire. From the 16th century, the Loire Valley was where the French royalty preferred to spend their time and so the local chateaux were renovated into lavish summer residences. You’ll overnight in the medieval town of Amboise and enjoy visits to several chateaux including world-famous Chenonceau (see box for more details).

Norman abbeys and the D-Day Invasion beaches On France’s northern coast two contrasting but equally moving sites await you: the ancient fortifications and abbey of Mont Saint-Michel and the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy. The island of

10

Mont Saint-Michel has been the seat of a monastery since the 8th century. The abbey is one of the most stunning monuments to the great Norman civilization that gives this region its name. Descended from the Vikings (“Norse Men”), the Norman influence would be felt throughout Europe (including the Kingdom of Sicily) and the Holy Land. Mont SaintMichel’s unique position of being an island only 600 meters from land made it readily accessible at low tide to the many pilgrims visiting the abbey. Equally, this position made it readily defensible as an incoming tide stranded, or drowned, would-be assailants. By capitalizing on this natural defence, the Mont remained unconquered

during the Hundred Years’ War with a small garrison successfully defending it against a full attack by the English in 1433. One of France's most recognizable landmarks, Mont Saint-Michel and its bay are part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Fortifications from modern times mark the beaches in Normandy where the Allies landed in 1944. On the 6th June 1944 the largest invasion force ever assembled landed on the coast of occupied France on five beaches code-named Utah, Omaha, Juno, Gold and Sword. An expertly guided tour of this sacred battlefield will enlighten and inform your understanding of this most famous of battles.

enough to fully enclose the Tower of London in its 60-meter-deep crater. Aegean Odyssey then sails up the estuary of the River Dart to the idyllic town of Dartmouth. Situated at the mouth of the River Dart, the small fishing port of Dartmouth is a quintessential English seaside town. With its Elizabethan streets, charming harbor and unspoilt beaches, this is truly a magical place.

CRUISE INTO THE HEART OF THE FRENCH COUNTRYSIDE Small-ship cruising at its best Enjoy the benefits of small-ship cruising as Aegean Odyssey sails inland up the River Loire to Nantes and a spectacular land tour to the picturesque Chateaux Country of the Loire Valley. Centered on the historic towns of Saumur, Amboise and Tours, the chateaux of the Loire valley are the

ultimate expression of French thought and design from the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment. You will visit some of the most elaborate and magnificent chateaux including Chateau d’Azay le Rideau, Chateau Amboise and worldfamous Chateau de Chenonceau. Built in 1513, Chenonceau is known as the “Ladies Castle” as it was built, furnished and saved from the Revolution by ladies. This fascinating trip includes an overnight hotel stay in Amboise and also includes sightseeing and time to wander in the charming towns of Saumur and Amboise. Plus a visit to the historic city of Tours on the lower reaches of the Loire.

Saumur, Pays de la Loire

England’s stunning West Country coast Framed by some of England’s most beautiful coastline and cliff-top villages, the historic port of Falmouth is your first port of call in the United Kingdom. Fortified by Henry VIII and the place where news of Nelson’s victory – and his death – at Trafalgar was landed, Falmouth is soaked in history. From here you will drive through the Cornish countryside to a place that can lay claim to being one of the modern wonders of the world. The Eden Project was opened in April 2001 and is the world's largest global garden. The scene is breathtaking worlds in microcosm – a cultural melting pot of global plants, both wild and cultivated, are housed in a glass dome large

Then enjoy a specially arranged visit to Britannia Royal Naval College. Dartmouth’s isolation has over the years, provided an ideal spot to prepare young men for Naval service, dating back to 1863. It was here that the present Queen first met Prince Philip, when as Princess Elizabeth she came with her parents to the Passing Out Parade. This magnificent building, set in 126 acres of landscaped gardens, overlooks the River Dart and the sea.

London: a global capital Today, London, with its unsurpassed cultural life, fascinating history and vibrant economy, is arguably the most exciting city in the world. A two-night stay with guided tours of some of the city’s most famous sites – is the perfect place to end our story.

WITH MANY YEARS’ EXPERIENCE IN SMALL-SHIP CRUISING, VOYAGES TO ANTIQUITY HAS CREATED A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE THAT COMBINES COMFORT AND SERVICE WITH METICULOUSLY PLANNED ITINERARIES TO SOME OF THE WORLD’S MOST EXCITING AND INTERESTING DESTINATIONS.

WITH OPEN SEATING DINING, COCKTAIL PARTIES AND LARGE PUBLIC SPACES, THE ATMOSPHERE ON BOARD AEGEAN ODYSSEY IS BOTH RELAXED AND CONVIVIAL. COMBINE THIS WITH OUR DEDICATION TO OFFERING OUR GUESTS OUTSTANDING VALUE AND IMPECCABLE SERVICE AND THE RESULT IS ONE WE KNOW YOU WILL APPRECIATE.

Small-ship cruising at its best

12

voyages to antiquity ~

our philosophy THE BENEFITS OF SMALL-SHIP CRUISING

A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE ON BOARD

In contrast to the massive vessels cruising to and from the major ports of the Mediterranean, we have a ship adapted for island and coastal cruising. This means that Aegean Odyssey can visit smaller, less crowded harbors, sail closer to the coast enabling you to really appreciate the magical views, and even cruise upriver to reach some amazing cities.

Evenings on board There will be a string trio, pianist, casual dancing before and after dinner, and occasional visiting local entertainment. No casino or disco. The officers’ introductory cocktail party is casual without the usual formalities, and there will be plenty of opportunities to socialize with your fellow passengers and meet the officers.

As we carry an average of 350 passengers, our ship is ideal for those who dislike traveling around with hordes of people. This boutique-style cruising tends to be more expensive to operate than larger ships, but if you like to avoid crowds, wander around beautiful islands, cruise remote inlets and rivers, visit charming villages and explore ancient sites that are inaccessible to others, then Aegean Odyssey is the ideal ship.

Dress code Suggestions for what to wear during nights and evenings aboard are found in the Essential Travel Information booklet we send you with your travel documents. Resort casual is the general recommendation, however, there may be occasions where a jacket for men and cocktail attire for ladies is appropriate. Wine is included with dinner on board As we are in the Mediterranean, we do not think it is appropriate to serve dinner without wine. Wines are from Italy, France, Spain or Greece and are included. Other vintages are available at reasonable prices.

Language on board The ship’s language is English and you can expect fellow passengers to be mainly from the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia with a sprinkling of enthusiasts from Europe. Technology We ask that mobile phones and laptops be used discreetly in the interest of fellow passengers. The internet room is always open for those who cannot resist contact with the outside world. Children Our cruises are destination focused and not designed for children under the age of 12. Tipping Always a difficult subject. We have decided to include all tips to cabin stewards and restaurant staff. You may wish to show your appreciation to individuals offering exceptional service (totally optional).

A good night’s sleep We place particular importance on the standard of bedding in cabins irrespective of category. Fine duvets, covers and sheets, ample soft pillows and quality towels can be expected and your cabin steward is always ready to make changes if you desire.

13

OUTSTANDING ITINERARIES

SHORE EXCURSIONS INCLUDED IN YOUR FARE

All voyages have been meticulously planned by the Voyages to Antiquity staff in conjunction with noted historians. Plus, with frequent evening and overnight stays in port, there’s the opportunity to enjoy an after-dinner stroll ashore.

Shore excursions are included in virtually every port of call – in the few cases where they are not, it’s because we feel that your time ashore is best spent exploring on your own. As well as giving you a choice of included excursions in certain places, additional visits will be offered at a supplementary cost.

This year we are delighted to include some brand new destinations like Valencia, and cruises from the Mediterranean to Lisbon and the Atlantic coast of Portugal, plus river cruising into the heart of France’s wine and chateaux countries. The invasion beaches of Normandy, England’s beautiful West Country and its historic capital – London, also feature. We are continuing – and even increasing – our highly successful cruises to Morocco, the south of Spain, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Western Sahara Desert, plus Aegean Odyssey will once more sail up the Guadalquivir River to moor in the heart of Seville. Included pre- & post-cruise land stays Many departures also have pre- and/or post-cruise hotel stays in such wonderful places as London, Rome, Athens, Lisbon, Venice, Seville, Amman, Petra and Istanbul, providing guests with a wonderful chance to relax before their cruise or the perfect opportunity to explore one of these remarkable cities at the end of their journey.

14

This is an important part of Voyages to Antiquity's philosophy as it ensures that our guests always see the most important sites and are escorted by the very best guides. In Athens, for example, you will not miss the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, and when in Istanbul your tour will always include the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace.

QUALITY HOTELS ASHORE Kusadasi and Izmir are the gateways to the ancient site of Ephesus, while Sicily and Italy offer a wealth of sightseeing possibilities and, depending on your itinerary, you’ll visit the remarkable cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain and Mont Saint-Michel on the coast of Normandy – both important pilgrimage centers. Our sightseeing programs are outstanding, but can be strenuous; a reasonable level of fitness is, therefore, required. Our shore excursion brochure and on-board Daily Journal will indicate the level of fitness required on any given day. Individual QuietVox headsets On all shore excursions, the expert guides will share their knowledge with the group using QuietVox. Through your individual headset, these devices allow you to hear the tour leader clearly even at the busiest sites. Voyages to Antiquity was one of the first cruise lines to operate this service. We trust this means that you won’t miss a thing and your visits to these wonderful places will be as memorable and exciting as possible.

Voyages to Antiquity places great emphasis on the quality of accommodation ashore. We have selected some of the best 4- and 5-star hotels for your included land stays. In Rome, the Excelsior opens on to one of Rome’s prestigious streets, the Via Veneto, and the Londra & Cargill is within walking distance of the Roman Forum. In Athens, the Grande Bretagne is a grand hotel in the finest tradition with views of the floodlit Acropolis from the roof garden. The same view can be seen from the King George, one of Athens’ most prestigious hotels located in the heart of the city. In Istanbul, the Grand Hyatt blends the traditions of East and West and reflects the spirit and culture of the city. The InterContinental overlooks the Bosphorus and is close to Taksim Square. For a full description of the hotels we use, please see pages 68-69.

RIVER CRUISING AND OVERLAND TOURS

EXCLUSIVE SPECIAL EVENTS

Because of its size, Aegean Odyssey has the ability to navigate the islands and smaller ports of the Mediterranean, Aegean and Aegean Seas. She also has the ability to sail inland to take you to the heart of Europe’s great cities.

An exclusive evening in Venice For cruises visiting Venice we have arranged an exclusive, private evening visit to St Mark’s Basilica with special lighting illuminating the spectacular mosaics.

When we visit the Andalusian city of Seville, Aegean Odyssey cruises up the Guadalquivir River to berth in the heart of the city. In the South of France, we cruise close to the Cote d’Azur and dock in the glamorous resort of Nice or sophisticated Monte Carlo. In the Adriatic, we sail close to the coast of the beautiful Kornati Islands and tie up at the small harbor of Korcula. In the Aegean, we view Mount Athos monasteries and cruise the historic Dardanelles. In western France you’ll sail into the Gironde and the Loire Rivers to visit spectacular chateaux and taste some of the local wines, and in England we take you into the River Dart to explore the beautiful west country of Devon and Cornwall. As part of our dedication to great value and to showing you the best sites of the ancient world, some of our departures include land tours to enhance your experience.

A taste of Morocco During the visit to Fez you will enjoy a typical Moroccan lunch in the old medina at the Palais Menebhi, a private palace originally built as a home to a Moroccan grand vizier. Sicily's palatial splendor In Palermo, there will be an opportunity for a private visit to Palazzo Gangi, the magnificent Baroque palace famous for the banqueting scene in Visconti’s film of Tomasi di Lampedusa’s classic novel, The Leopard. You will need to register interest as group sizes are limited. A donation of $55 per person towards restoration is required. Seville – river cruising and home of flamenco Aegean Odyssey can navigate the Guadalquivir River, passing through the marshy lowlands known as ‘Las Marismas,’ and berth in the heart of Seville, capital of Andalusia and home to the Spanish flamenco dance. To fully appreciate the atmosphere of this wonderful city we have included a lively flamenco performance one evening on board ship. Vineyards and wine tasting In Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, Jerez and Oporto you’ll be able to try the vintages and tour the vineyards.

Experience the best of

small-ship cruising

On board Aegean Odyssey you will experience the finest traditions of cruising. She is a mid-size vessel carrying around 350 guests and features wide, teak decks and spacious public rooms. With openseating dining, inside or al fresco, several bars and lounges to relax, and the immaculate service of a friendly and attentive crew, you can be sure of a superior cruise experience. Cruise in comfort – relax in style You’ll discover an intimate and relaxed atmosphere throughout the ship. By day the spacious decks provide the perfect

20

place to unwind as you sail to the scenic harbors and ancient sites of the Mediterranean. Public rooms offer an understated elegance. The Ambassador Lounge is where our speakers inform and our musicians entertain, whilst the Charleston Lounge is the perfect place to meet friends – old and new – with light music and, perhaps, a little dancing. The top deck is a wonderful spot to watch the waves go by during the day, or enjoy a nightcap looking at the stars in the evening. The well-stocked library is beautifully appointed with wood paneling, and is

regularly updated by Oxford-based booksellers Blackwells. There is an extensive range of volumes covering the history, art, culture and philosophy of the countries you will visit. In addition, there is an extensive collection of reference books, modern and classic fiction, and general interest volumes. Newspapers are delivered daily via satellite and are available in the library. You will also find a selection of board games from Monopoly to chess. For those passengers who want to keep in touch with friends, check their emails or find out what is happening in the world,

there is an internet center. For those in need of a little shopping, there is also a well-stocked boutique. A welcome difference One of the things that sets us apart from the rest is that we plan our cruise itineraries to maximise your time in port with many late evening sailings and overnight stays. This will give you the opportunity to plan an evening on board and ashore – perhaps dinner in a harborside taverna in one of the Mediterranean’s delightful resorts, or just an after-dinner stroll for a nightcap as you watch the world go by.

Days at sea: relax or revive

Renowned lecture program

During days at sea you may simply wish to enjoy the sun on the Lido Deck or cool off in the outdoor pool. Perhaps borrow a book from the library and read in one of the cool lounges. Alternatively, you could start the day with an early morning yoga session or plan a visit to the Athena Health Spa and Gym. Here you will find the latest gym equipment for a serious workout, a sauna, and a good selection of therapies and treatments to refresh and renew you during your cruise. More pampering can be found in the hairdressers and beauty center.

If you want to attend to the mind not the body, there will be a program of lectures – held in the Ambassador Lounge – designed to not only inform and entertain but also to bring to life the wonderful sites you will visit. There will normally be a number of guest speakers on your cruise, each with a different area

of expertize. Prior to arrival in each port of call, there will be a port briefing to inform you of the sites, culture and history of your next destination. Nights to remember Start your evening with a cocktail in the Lido Bar as you watch the sun go down and meet old and new-found friends. Or enjoy an aperitif in the Charleston Lounge while being entertained by our resident trio. As well as being one of the world’s most historically interesting and naturally beautiful destinations, the Mediterranean is also home to a range of unsurpassed culinary traditions.

This gastronomic culture of using the very best fresh local ingredients cooked in a simple but delicious and healthy style is the inspiration for the restaurants on Aegean Odyssey. Your cabin comforts Your on-board comfort is one of our prime concerns. Our wide category of cabins feature flat-screen television, a personal safe and hairdryer – and all offer plush bedding for your comfort. After all is said and done, what passengers love most about Aegean Odyssey is the warm and intimate atmosphere. Ships, like people, have personalities. Some are proper and formal. Others offer the anonymity of a large hotel. On board Aegean Odyssey you are greeted as a returning family member even if it’s your first time on board.

26

it’s our people

that make all the differece Home away from home

At your service

You’ll find smiles and welcomes from everyone from the Captain to your cabin steward. And unlike a vast megaliner, it is easy to socialize and meet fellow passengers whose passions and interests are similar to your own.

Ask any world traveler where they receive the best service and they will undoubtedly answer the Far East. Of all the nationalities in that part of the world, it is the Filipinos who carry the highest reputation for attention to detail. Fluent in English and always serving with a smile, our Filipino crew will win your hearts.

Your cabin steward will refresh your stateroom before you even realize you need it. Your waiter will remember whether you take tea or coffee, and the barman whether you like your Martini shaken or stirred. They, and the rest of our officers and crew, are dedicated to making your vacation a delightful experience.

Just a few comments from previous guests “ Thank you, yet again, for the wonderful

Aegean Odyssey and Voyages to Antiquity. We were on the Athens to Istanbul cruise and visited incredible sites. This was right up my husband’s alley but, l am now certain that, if l want to see something ancient again, l will look in the mirror! This particular cruise was jam-packed with excursions and it offered a huge number of very serious “must-sees”. Aegean Odyssey was, as always, special and we were so proud to be a part of it! By now we know quite a few of the crew and passengers whom we have met on previous cruises. It was a real “coming home” experience.” J.O. South Africa

It is this personal approach that our guests remember and value most highly. But don’t just take our word for it, here is what recent travelers aboard Aegean Odyssey had to say.

“ I have recently returned from The Isles

of Greece cruise and feel disposed to write and congratulate all concerned in providing me with a truly memorable experience. I was a single passenger on my first ever cruise, and can honestly say that I could not find even the smallest fault with the whole experience. The ship, its facilities, the food on board, all the crew and the excursions were better than I dared to expect, and speaking to fellow passengers who were often well experienced in cruising, they too were pleasantly surprised at the high standards attained throughout. My only

complaint is that you have of course spoiled me for any cruise other than with your Company, and I look forward to joining you again.” G.G.B MBE - UK

“The cruises are itinerary driven with a

strong emphasis on shore excursions (which are included in the package price!) that stress cultural history at ports of call. And while I remember – no bingo, no casino, no photographer, no chorus line and no Baked Alaska! Need I say more?” M.R. - Canada

“WOW! Wonderful in every way! I came

by myself, but never felt alone. The ship was very comfortable and easy to get around. The shore excursions far exceeded my expectations! I look forward to another adventure on this intimate ship.” R.S. - USA

“My husband and l have just completed a

26-day voyage on Aegean Odyssey. From the moment we stepped on the gangplank we were treated like VIPs. All staff, and we mean all, were helpful, friendly and professional. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious. The selection of items at all meals, was amazing, our compliments to the chef. The Hotel Manager was a great guy... and our steward kept our room in tip-top

shape... the crew excelled. Thank you all for making this the finest trip ever for us.” H & T.F. Canada

“My

wife and l enjoyed Voyages to Antiquity enormously as did our dear friends from Australia who were with us on this trip. The staff and crew were excellent, the ship was spotless and the land tours excellent. We look forward to another trip with you in the future. Thank you for a First Class trip and for the courtesies and professionalism bestowed upon us by your excellent staff.” C.C. - USA

The voyage was a wonderful experience “and the best way for me to celebrate my 70th birthday. From my initial dealings with the booking office, to the organised tours of the various sites, to the passengers and crew everything was perfect. The crew was most solicitous – the maître’d made certain that I had a quiet table each evening, the cabin steward saw to my every need, the cruise coordinator organised a dinner celebration for my birthday. Everything was just LOVELY!!” R.S. - USA

“It was awesome!!!!! I am very happy

with the way the cruise panned out – well organised, great food and wine. Great sights to visit.” A.P. - Australia

Graeco-Roman Jerash was built by Alexander the Great in the 2nd century BC and was a flourishing city of the Decapolis, the league of ten Roman cities. The city lay untouched for centuries and is very well preserved – here you can see colonnaded streets, temples and a theater which once held 5,000 spectators. Your drive to Petra takes a scenic route via the Dead Sea – pause for lunch and take a dip in the sea's salutary buoyant waters. Your first glimpse of the ancient rose-red city of Petra is one you will not forget, as you emerge from the mile-long path that winds between two overhanging cliffs to stand in front of the impressive colonnaded Treasury. Embarking Aegean Odyssey in the port of Aqaba, you can relax in the spring sunshine as the ship cruises the Red Sea and enjoy a daytime sailing through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean. CYPRUS TO THE COAST OF TURKEY AND CRUSADER RHODES A short journey from Limassol takes you to the Graeco-Roman city of Kourion. With breathtaking views over the Mediterranean, Kourion contains some remarkable monuments including the vast 2nd-century AD stadium and the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates. Then to Antalya in Turkey and the Hellenistic city of Perge and the ancient Roman trading town of Aspendos with its beautifully preserved 2nd century AD Roman theater.

The next port of call is Rhodes and a chance to explore the Old Town and Citadel of the Knights of St John. Also available during our call at Rhodes is an optional trip to the Acropolis at Lindos. From the Turkish port of Kusadasi, a short trip by road takes you to the magnificent ruins of Ephesus and its “terraced houses of the rich.” Also included is a full day excursion to the remarkable ancient city of Aphrodisias. SACRED GREEK ISLANDS The next port of call is Delos, the paramount religious sanctuary of the ancient Greek world. The tour explores the island’s temples and, of course, the famous lion statues. Nearby Mykonos, with its lively cafes and shops, is the perfect contrast. On arriving in Santorini you take the short drive to Akrotiri. This ancient Minoan outpost is a remarkable site and the excavations include the remains of a sophisticated civilization dating back to the 16th century BC. CLASSICAL ATHENS Your two-night hotel stay in Athens includes a full morning's guided tour of the city's ancient citadel, the Acropolis. Built during the "Golden Age" of Athens between 447-438BC, the Acropolis represents the magnificent achievements of Athenian culture. “The light of Greece opened my eyes” HENRY MILLER St Paul embarked on three missionary journeys in his lifetime. His travels took him throughout southern Asia Minor, to the lands surrounding the Mediterranean and as far west as Rome and on to modern-day Spain. This voyage will take you to several of the places the Apostle visited including Corinth and the ancient city of Ephesus. Plus other places of great spiritual significance, including the beautiful island of Patmos where St John wrote the Book of the Revelation, the sacred island of Delos, and Philippi where St Paul delivered his first sermon in Europe, sowing the seeds of Christianity. So there you have it: a journey that takes you to the inspiring sites on St Paul’s missionary travels and cruises to the Greek Islands and some of the most beautiful spots in the Mediterranean.

In free time, perhaps walk up Mars Hill where St Paul preached to the Athenians. Before embarking on the Aegean Odyssey in Piraeus, you will visit ancient Corinth where St Paul lived during the 50s AD. See the remains of the first-century shops, the agora, the Temple of Apollo, and the platform in the Roman Forum from which he pleaded his case to the Corinthians. THE GLORIOUS GREEK ISLES Delos is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Greece and was the paramount religious sanctuary of the ancient Greek world. Nearby Mykonos is ideal for some people watching and evening drinks. The religious significance of Patmos dates from the arrival of St John in AD95. Here you will visit the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse, where he dictated the Book of Revelation, and the Monastery of St John, founded in 1088. In the afternoon and early evening you are free to relax on this beautiful island. THE COAST OF TURKEY & THE DARDANELLES From the lively port of Kusadasi you have a choice of excursions. Drive to ancient Ephesus and see the Odeon (concert hall), the Temple of Hadrian, the Library of Celsus, and the Great Theater where St Paul preached. Alternatively, you can visit Miletus, where he met with the elders of the church of Ephesus in 57AD. From the port of Dikili there’s a tour to the Hellenistic ruins of Pergamon.

Founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC, Pergamon once rivaled Athens and Alexandria as a center of culture and learning. Canakkale is on the shores of the Dardanelles – the ancient Hellespont. Again you have a choice of excursions. The 13th or 12th century BC siege of Troy by Spartan and Achaean warriors has fired the imagination of poets over thousands of years. Today, little remains of the 5,000 years of habitation but you can sense the history as you view the massive walls, a Roman Theater and the reputed Palace of King Priam. Or perhaps ferry over to Gallipoli, scene of one of the most tragic campaigns of World War I. PHILIPPI, THESSALONICA AND MONASTERIES IN THE SKY Morning arrival in Kavala – ancient Neapolis – where St Paul, accompanied by Silas, Luke and Timothy, first set foot in Europe. From here you head for Philippi where he delivered his first sermon in Europe, sowing the seeds of Christianity, and where among the ruins is the prison into which he and Silas were thrown. St Paul also preached in Thessalonica and wrote two epistles to the ancient Thessalonians. You will explore the city’s Byzantine heritage and, in the afternoon, travel to Vergina. Even by the standards of Greece, Vergina is an old city. There is evidence that it was populated as early as 1000BC and its inhabitants were among the first Christians in the Empire. From the port of Volos, you will travel by road to see the famous Byzantine monasteries built on the sandstone towers at Meteora. Return to the ship for an evening departure to Skiathos, a delightful Greek island and the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing final day.

S A OOK P E $ V E U EAR R 1 , P LY ST 0 T AT 0 O ER 0 OO M CLASSICAL ATHENS Your three-night hotel stay in Athens includes a full-morning's guided tour of the city's ancient citadel, the Acropolis. Built during the "Golden Age" of Athens between 447-438BC, the Acropolis represents the magnificent achievements of Athenian culture during this remarkable era. You will also visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum and head out of Athens to the site of ancient Corinth and the remarkable amphitheater at Epidaurus. A GREEK ISLAND ODYSSEY: FROM SANTORINI TO DELOS Among the Aegean's most spectacular sights are the cliffs of Santorini rising from a great half-moon caldera. The island was also home to the Minoan settlement of Akrotiri: dating from the 16th century BC this ancient city was wonderfully preserved under volcanic ash. The heyday of Minoan civilization (2000-1600BC) was marked by the construction of great palaces, the best known is Knossos on the island of Crete. Excavations began in 1899 by the British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans, who controversially “restored” the palace with his own eccentric ideas of Minoan interior design. The next port of call is Rhodes and a chance to explore the Old Town and the Citadel of the Knights of St John. There is also the opportunity to visit the Acropolis at Lindos. The island of Delos is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Greece, and nearby Mykonos, with its cafes and shops, is the perfect contrast. EPHESUS, TROY & THE COAST OF TURKEY After leaving the Greek Islands, we cross to the Turkish coast and the port of Izmir from where there is the opportunity to

visit some of the most spectacular sites of antiquity to be found anywhere. Ephesus contains the largest collection of Roman ruins in the eastern Mediterranean including the Library of Celsus and the theater which is believed to be the largest outdoor theater in the ancient world. Also included is an excursion to Pergamon which was founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC and once rivaled Athens and Alexandria as a center of culture and learning. The 13th or 12th century BC siege of Troy by Spartan and Achaean warriors from Greece has fired the imagination of poets over thousands of years. Today little remains of the 5,000 years of habitation but you can sense the history of the place as you view the massive walls, a Roman theater and the reputed Palace of King Priam. Alternatively, take a ferry across the Dardanelles to the moving memorials of Gallipoli. BYZANTINE ISTANBUL ON THE BOSPHORUS One of the major highlights of your cruise is when you sail through the Bosphorus and dock in the heart of the Byzantine masterpiece that is Istanbul. Your included sightseeing features the 6th-century Cathedral of Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace – residence of the early sultans, and the Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque). You will also have free time to explore on your own, perhaps visit the amazing underground cisterns, the Archaeological Museum, or take a look at the city from a different viewpoint with a sail on the Bosphorus. To conclude your cruise, you sail past the astonishing monasteries at Mount Athos and enjoy a lazy afternoon on the “Mamma Mia” island of Skiathos.

Built during the "Golden Age", the Acropolis represents the magnificent achievements of Athenian culture during this remarkable era. You will also visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum and have plenty of free time to explore the city's other sites. Gythion is the first port of call for our tour to Sparta and Mystra, followed by Katakolon for a morning's tour to Ancient Olympia. The first Olympic Games took place here in 776BC and the site was also an important religious center, as Mount Olympus was believed to be the home of Zeus. Return to the ship for a lunchtime departure and a leisure afternoon cruising the Ionian Sea en route to Ithaca where you will be able to spend a relaxing evening ashore. ELEGANT CORFU AND ANCIENT BUTRINT With cricket still played on the green, the legacy of British rule is evident in Corfu Town as you will see during the morning tour. You will also visit the Byzantine Museum housed in the Church of Panagia Antivouniotissa. The archaeological site of Butrint has been occupied since at least the 8th century BC. Roman Emperor Augustus founded a colony here, and Butrint’s medieval history was turbulent as the town was involved in the power struggles between Byzantium and successive Norman, Angevin and Venetian states. It is consequently a fascinating archaeological and historical site.

NATURAL AND ANCIENT WONDERS OF DALMATIA After cruising deep into the stunning fjord of Kotor Bay in Montenegro, the ship arrives at Dubrovnik for a free evening ashore. Next morning, your sightseeing features the magnificent fortifications including the 10th century city walls, the Baroque Church of St Blaise and the Cathedral which boasts Titian’s Assumption over the main altar. The Croatian town of Split is home to one of the greatest of all Roman sites, the Palace of Diocletian. There will be a morning tour of this remarkable palace including the Temple of Jupiter and Diocletian’s Mausoleum. In the afternoon, there is the option of visiting one of the true gems of the Dalmatian coast, the delightful island of Trogir. The Romans, Byzantines and Venetians all coveted the port of Zadar and as a result it is rich in fascinating monuments. Your morning walking tour of the town will include the Roman forum and the Byzantine masterpiece, the Church of St Donat. BYZANTINE RAVENNA AND VENICE In the 5th century AD the power of Rome was in decline and in 402 the capital of the Western Roman Empire was moved to Ravenna. The city is famous for its superb early Christian mosaics and buildings including the Church of San Vitale and the 5th-century Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. Whether you are seeing the great sites of Venice such as the Piazza San Marco, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace for the first time or revisiting them, there is no better way to end your trip than with two nights in this lovely city. On your first evening, you’ll enjoy a spectacular private visit to St Mark’s Basilica.

“The Grand Tour... enrich the mind with knowledge” THOMAS NUGENT (Grand Tour 1749) This meticulously planned itinerary combining Italy and the Dalmatian Riviera echoes the idea of the “Grand Tour”, a practice popular in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that introduced Europeans and Americans to the art and culture of ancient Greece, France and Italy. Then, as now, Rome and Venice were not to be missed, and Florence and the ruins of Pompeii were also popular destinations. As well as the "Grand Tour" favorites, this cruise takes you to the Renaissance treasures of Urbino, the spectacular coast of Dalmatia, Corfu and the elegant Greek theater at Taormina in Sicily. Starting with a two-night hotel stay in Venice, this grand voyage concludes with a sail along the French Riviera to the glamorous resorts of Nice and Monte Carlo – a fitting end to this modern-day Grand Tour.

There is no better way to start your trip than with a morning’s sightseeing walk around this magnificent city. On your second evening, there is an exclusive visit to St Mark’s: not to be missed. Perched on two hills above stunning countryside, the walled town of Urbino contains some true treasures. Here you will visit the birthplace of Raphael, tour the Palazzo Ducale, Italy's most beautiful Renaissance palace, and view the magnificent Duomo. THE BEAUTY OF DALMATIA Split is home to one of the greatest of all Roman sites, the Palace of Diocletian, and the first of our ports of call along the Dalmatian coast. Next is Dubrovnik, which Lord Byron described as “ the Pearl of the Adriatic”, where sightseeing takes you on a walk around the walled city to visit the Church of St Blaise and the Cathedral that boasts Titian’s Assumption over the main alter. A lunchtime sailing takes us south to the stunning fjord of Kotor Bay in Montenegro. With cricket still played on the green, the legacy of British rule is still evident in Corfu Town as you will see during your afternoon tour. THE MAGIC OF SICILY AND THE MYSTERIES OF POMPEII Our early morning arrival in Taormina on the island of Sicily, gives us the opportunity to visit the magnificent Greek theater with its breathtaking views of Etna. An afternoon cruise takes you through the Strait of Messina and past the beautiful Lipari

Islands including volcanic Stromboli. From Sorrento, you can visit one of two wonderful sites. Pompeii dates back to the 6th century BC and was engulfed by lava erupting from Vesuvius in August 79AD. Alternatively, you can visit the nearby town of Herculaneum that also perished during the same eruption. CLASSICAL ROME TO THE WONDERS OF FLORENCE Your morning tour of Rome begins with one the great monuments of ancient Rome, the Colosseum and ends with a visit to the most important church in Christendom, the sumptuous Basilica of St Peter’s in Vatican City. You are then free to lunch on your own before an afternoon walking tour to some of the city’s other wonderful sites including the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. From the port of Livorno, you travel to Florence for a very special day visiting the city’s remarkable galleries, buildings and museums including the Galleria dell'Accademia, the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi (avoiding the lines thanks to your group reservation). FRENCH RIVIERA & MONACO Enjoy a relaxing day at sea as Aegean Odyssey makes her way along the beautiful coastline of the Cote d’Azur passing Cannes, Antibes, Saint-Tropez and the Ile de Porquerolles, en route to Marseilles for a visit to the Papal Palace in Avignon, founded by Pope Clement V in1309. Arriving in the delightful French Riviera resort of Nice, you can spend the day relaxing on the beach, shopping in sophisticated boutiques, or join an included excursion to Monte Carlo in the Principality of Monaco. Later, perhaps head for nearby Monte Carlo or the charming Provençal hill town of St Paulde-Vence. Then enjoy a relaxing day at sea as you sail along the Cote d’Azur passing Cannes, Antibes and Saint-Tropez on the way to Marseilles. One of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe, the Papal Palace in Avignon was founded by Pope Clement V in 1309 when he fled the violence in Rome. The major construction was carried out between 1335 and 1364 by Pope Benedict XII and his successor, Pope Clement VI. Founded by the Romans, the fortified city of Carcassonne became the largest walled stronghold of the Middle Ages – its remarkable towers and ramparts are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ROMAN AND MOORISH SPAIN Included morning sightseeing of Barcelona will be dedicated to exploring the Roman sites of the city including the Temple of Apollo and Roman remains in the Gothic Quarter. You then have time to explore on your own. Perhaps visit extraordinary Sagrada Familia, the massive Catalan church designed by the visionary architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction of this iconic building began in 1882 and is still ongoing. Enjoy the charm of Valencia’s squares and hidden corners on a walk through this fascinating city. You’ll see the City of Arts and Sciences, the Museu de les Ciencies and Plaza de la Reina. Discover the historical center, visit the Cathedral, and one of the most astonishing Gothic civil buildings in the world, La Lonja,

which was declared Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO. Begun in 1238, the Alhambra in Granada was the last capital of the Moors in Spain. Your excursion includes the Royal Palace and the Generalife with its splendid gardens. MOROCCO & A TASTE OF SHERRY Tangier is a fascinating Moroccan city with an interesting history and friendly people. Your visit includes the Kasbah, and caves of Hercules – a place of stunning natural beauty where the mythical figure Hercules is said to have rested after finishing his twelve labors. From the port of Cadiz travel to Jerez de la Frontera (so called because it stood at the frontier between the Moorish and Christian realms), a town famous for the production of sherry and, after a tour of the city, you will visit one of the famous bodegas – Gonzalez Byass – for a sherry tasting. CRUISING INTO SEVILLE Aegean Odyssey then sails inland through the Andalusian countryside along the Guadalquivir River to dock in the very heart of Seville. You will visit the Royal Palace Alcazar, the oldest residence of Spanish royalty that is still in use today and a building that amalgamates influences starting from the Arabic period and the late Middle Ages, right through to the Renaissance, Baroque and the nineteenth century. In free time, perhaps visit the Cathedral, the third largest in Europe, its Gothic interior housing the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The city of Cordoba, one of the world’s great destinations, contains one of the wonders of the medieval world, the Great Mosque, and a very well-preserved Roman bridge.

“The interweaving of the notions of Europe and Christendom is a fact of history”

NORMAN DAVIES

From the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba and the immense statue of Christ the King in Lisbon to the pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela and the magnificence of Westminster Cathedral in London, this voyage highlights the central role played by Christianity in the history of Europe. Along the way, Aegean Odyssey will cruise the River Guadalquivir from Seville, the River Gironde to Bordeaux, and follow the wonderful West Country coastline of England. These destinations also offer two very contrasting gastronomic experiences: wine tasting at a Bordeaux chateau and indulging in a cream tea in Cornwall. Recent history also plays a part as you visit the D-Day invasion beaches on the Normandy coast of northern France and Sir Winston Churchill’s country house, Chartwell, in the county of Kent in England.

With its sharp spires, rocky cliffs rising from the sea and impressive fortifications, Mont Saint-Michel is one of the iconic images of France. A voyage to Byzantium

B

S A OOK P E $ V E U EAR R 2 , P LY ST 0 T AT 0 O ER 0 OO M ANCIENT ROME & POMPEII Your voyage to Byzantium starts with a twonight hotel stay in Rome, where sightseeing features a tour beginning with the largest and most famous Roman amphitheater, the Colosseum, constructed in 80AD by Emperor Vespasian. You’ll also visit the sumptuous Basilica of St Peter’s in the Vatican. In the afternoon you are free to visit some of Rome’s many other wonders – the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and Sistine Chapel should be on your list. Sorrento is an excellent base from which to visit Pompeii, which was engulfed by lava erupting from Mt Vesuvius in August 79AD. Alternatively, you can visit the nearby town of Herculaneum that also perished during the eruption. THE TREASURES OF SICILY AND CORFU Sicily is a celebration of the greatest achievements of Western civilization: the Norman Royal Palace and Palatine Chapel in Palermo, and the dazzling mosaics of Monreale Cathedral are followed by the magnificent Greek theater at Taormina with its breathtaking views of Mt Etna. The legacy of British rule is evident in Corfu Town as you will see during this morning’s tour. You will visit the Byzantine Museum and the elegant Esplanade. CLASSICAL GREECE AND SACRED GREEK ISLANDS Mentioned in The Odyssey and inhabited since the Neolithic age, Pylos is a treasure trove of historical sites and in 1827 its bay was the site of the Battle of Navarino. Gythion is the port for our adventure to Sparta and Mystra. From Piraeus, you take the short drive to Athens for a guided tour of the city's ancient sites including the Acropolis. You will also visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum and then have free

time to explore the city's other remarkable sites such as the National Archaeological Museum. Delos is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Greece and the paramount religious sanctuary of the ancient Greek world. The tour explores the island’s temples and, of course, the famous lions. Nearby Mykonos, with lively cafes and shops, is the perfect contrast for a leisure afternoon ashore. ANCIENT TURKEY From the port of Izmir there is the opportunity to visit some of the most spectacular sites of antiquity to be found anywhere. Ephesus contains the largest collection of Roman ruins in the eastern Mediterranean including the Library of Celsus and the theater which is believed to be the largest outdoor theater in the ancient world. Alternatively, you can visit Pergamon which was founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC and once rivaled Athens and Alexandria as a center of culture and learning. TROY LEADS TO ISTANBUL AND THE HELLESPONT The 13th or 12th century BC siege of Troy by Spartan and Achaean warriors from Greece has fired the imagination of poets over thousands of years. Today little remains of the 5,000 years of habitation but you can sense the history of this place as you view the massive walls, a Roman theater and the reputed Palace of King Priam. Alternatively, take a ferry across the Dardanelles to the moving memorials of GallipolI. End your cruise with a two-night hotel stay in Istanbul where sightseeing takes in the Byzantine 6th-century cathedral of Hagia Sophia, the Topkapi Palace and the Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque). You are then free to explore the city – perhaps visit the amazing underground cisterns or the Archaeological Museum.

“Poetry, history, drama and mathematics – all these begin with Greeks” HDF KITTO For natural beauty and outstanding archaeological sites, there are few journeys in the world that can compare with this cruise to Greece and the coast of Turkey. The quality of the light, the clear waters of the Aegean and the drama of the landscape have inspired writers, poets and artists since the time of Homer. After a two-night hotel stay in Istanbul, you will visit some of the most inspiring monuments of the ancient world including Ephesus and Mycenae. In the Greek islands, you will see the Bronze Age artefacts at Akrotiri on Santorini; explore the well-preserved 4th-century BC temple to Asklepios on Kos; and visit the crusader stronghold of Rhodes. And what could be more fitting than a two-night grand finale amid the classical monuments of Athens.

B

S A OOK P E $ V E U EAR R 1 , P LY ST 0 T AT 0 O ER 0 OO M THE WONDERS OF BYZANTIUM Start your vacation with a two-night hotel stay in Istanbul where sightseeing takes in the Byzantine 6th-century Cathedral of Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, residence of the early sultans, and the Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque). You are then free to explore the city – perhaps visit the Church of St Saviour in Chora, the eerie world of the underground cisterns, or the Archaeological Museum. A sail on the Bosphorus to see the city from a different angle is also a popular option. HELLESPONT LEADS TO ANCIENT TURKEY The 13th- or 12th-century BC siege of Troy by Spartan and Achaean warriors has fired the imagination of poets over thousands of years. Today little remains of the 5,000 years of habitation but you can sense the history as you view the massive walls, a Roman theater and the reputed Palace of King Priam. Alternatively, take a ferry across the Dardanelles to the moving memorials of Gallipoli. Ephesus was the ancient Roman capital of the province of Asia. It contains the largest collection of Roman ruins in the eastern Mediterranean including the Library of Celsus and the theater, which is believed to be the largest outdoor theater in the ancient world. There is also the opportunity to visit Pergamon, founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC. Cruise on to Bodrum and head for the remains of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassos, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the 15th-century Castle of St Peter. Fethiye and the ruins of the ancient city of Patara are next, including the impressive agora. You will also see one of the great sites of the Lycia, Xantos.

LEGENDARY GREEK ISLANDS The next port of call is Rhodes and a chance to explore Rhodes Old Town and the Citadel of the Knights of St John. There is also an opportunity to visit the Acropolis at Lindos. The most important archaeological site on Kos is Asklepeion. Built in the 4th century BC, it served as a temple to Asklepios, the god of health, and today its ruins are remarkably well preserved. One of the Aegean’s most spectacular sights is the cliffs of Santorini rising from a great half-moon caldera. The island was also home to the Minoan settlement of Akrotiri: dating from the 16th century BC this ancient city was wonderfully preserved under volcanic ash. CLASSICAL GREECE AND ATHENS From Nauplia, you have a choice of excursions to the great sites of Classical Greece: ancient Mycenae or the magnificent theater at Epidaurus where the acoustics are so good you can hear a pin drop from the top row. In Piraeus, you disembark for a twonight hotel stay in nearby Athens where sightseeing features the city's ancient citadel, the Acropolis. Built during the "Golden Age" of Athens between 447438BC, the Acropolis represents the magnificent achievements of Athenian culture during this remarkable era. You will also visit the wonderful Acropolis Museum and have plenty of free time to explore the city's other remarkable sites such as the National Archaeological Museum.

“The creator made Italy from designs by Michelangelo” MARK TWAIN Of all the countries of the Mediterranean, Italy is perhaps the most alluring: its art, architecture, history and, of course, food have seduced travelers for centuries. You’ll journey from the dazzling splendor of Byzantine Venice and the evocative ruins of Pompeii to the hill towns of Urbino and Lecce. You will also enjoy the outstanding natural beauty of the Adriatic as you cruise to Split and the walled port of Dubrovnik, once described by George Bernard Shaw as “Paradise on Earth”. The ancient site of Butrint in Albania and hedonistic Corfu follow en route to Taormina in Sicily. It is then on to ancient Paestum and the glorious Amalfi coastline, followed by romantic Sorrento and Pompeii. Your journey ends with a two-night hotel stay in Eternal Rome.

B

S A OOK P E $ V E U EAR R 2 , P LY ST 5 T AT 0 O ER 0 OO M VENICE AND RENAISSANCE URBINO Your vacation starts with a two-night hotel stay in Venice and a guided stroll around its heart – Piazza San Marco. During the rest of your stay, why not visit the stunning island of Torcello or simply walk to the Rialto? One evening, you will enjoy an exclusive visit to St Mark's Basilica: not to be missed. Perched on two hills, the walled town of Urbino contains some true treasures. Here you will visit the birthplace of Raphael, tour the Palazzo Ducale, Italy's most beautiful Renaissance palace, and view the magnificent Duomo. NATURAL AND ANCIENT WONDERS OF THE ADRIATIC The Croatian town of Split is home to one of the greatest of all Roman sites, the Palace of Diocletian. There will be a morning tour of this remarkable palace including the Temple of Jupiter and Diocletian’s mausoleum. In the afternoon, there is the option of visiting one of the true gems of the Dalmatian coast, the delightful island of Trogir. Included sightseeing in Dubrovnik features the magnificent fortifications including the 10th century city walls, the Baroque Church of St Blaise and the Cathedral. Set in the south-eastern tip of Italy's boot, Lecce is a city of architectural treasures. These include the 25,000-seat Roman amphitheater and the stunning Palazzo Tamborino with its seductive secret garden. The Albanian archaeological site of Butrint has been occupied since at least the 8th century BC. The legacy of British rule is evident in Corfu Town as you will see during the afternoon tour. You will also visit the Byzantine Museum housed in the church of Panagia Antivouniotissa.

SICILY, PAESTUM AND AMALFI After a relaxing day at sea, you come to Taormina on the island of Sicily. With its mountainous background and spectacular views of Etna, the GraecoRoman theater is our morning destination. In the afternoon you cruise through the Strait of Messina and later pass by volcanic Stromboli – hoping for a magical firework display. From Salerno there’s a visit to Paestum. Legend has it that Paestum was founded by Jason of Argonaut fame. What is undoubted, however, is the majesty of the three Greek temples that were the heart of this 6th century Greek city. In the afternoon, you cruise along the delightful Amalfi coast to Sorrento. MYSTERIES OF POMPEII & THE GRANDEUR OF ROME From cliff-top Sorrento you will drive to the magnificent remains of Pompeii. The town, some of which dates back to the 6th century BC, was engulfed by lava erupting from Vesuvius in August 79AD. From the casts of the bodies of its inhabitants, to the ancient surgical implements and beautiful frescoes, nowhere else gives us such an insight into the lives of the ancients. Alternatively, you can visit the nearby town of Herculaneum which perished in the same eruption. There will also be time to visit the wonderful isle of Capri or the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. Disembark for a two-night hotel stay in the Eternal City. Your morning tour starts at the Colosseum, constructed in 80AD by Emperor Vespasian as a means of gaining the love of the people by building a venue for gladiatorial games with a capacity of 50,000 spectators. Finally, to the Basilica of St Peter’s in Vatican City.

During your stay, your included tour begins with the famous Colosseum and ends with a visit to St Peter’s in Vatican City. Then you’ve free time to visit some of the city’s other sites – the Pantheon and Forum should be at the top of your list. Boarding Aegean Odyssey in Civitavecchia, you sail south to Sicily. The island is a celebration of the greatest achievements of Western civilization: the superbly well-preserved Greek temple of Segesta, the Palatine Chapel in Palermo, and the dazzling mosaics of Monreale Cathedral. ROMAN CITIES AND MOORISH PALACES IN SPAIN Cartagena is home to the moving ruins of the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Veija and a spectacular Roman amphitheater. From the port of Motril, you head inland to Granada. Begun in 1238, the Alhambra was the last capital of the Moors in Spain and when it fell to the Christian armies in the 15th century, they were so impressed with the splendor of the complex that they could not bear to destroy it. Your tour includes the Royal Palace and the Generalife with its splendid gardens before heading on to Malaga where a late sailing allows for an evening ashore.

GIBRALTAR AND THE BEST OF MORROCO Gibraltar, or the Rock, rises nearly 1,400ft above sea level and is said to be one of the legendary Pillars of Hercules. Your tour includes Europa Point, the southernmost point of Gibraltar, the famous St Michael’s Cave, and the network of narrow tunnels that were used back in the Second World War. Leaving Casablanca by road we make our way inland to Marrakesh where sightseeing features a walk through the famous medina and a visit to 14th century Ben Youssef Medrassa and 12th century Kubba El Baroudyine with its beautiful dome. Continue to the Marrakesh Museum, Kasbah and Bahia Palace with its Moorish garden, finishing in the famous Djemma el Fna Square. Overnight in a Marrakesh hotel, then return to Casablanca. CRUISING INTO ANDALUSIA You travel to Jerez de la Frontera (so called because it stood at the frontier between the Moorish and Christian realms) from the port of Cadiz, and, after a tour of the city, you will visit one of the famous bodegas for a sherry tasting. Aegean Odyssey then sails up the Guadalquivir River to moor in the heart of Seville. You will visit the Royal Palace Alcazar, a building that amalgamates influences starting from the Arabic period, right through to the Renaissance, Baroque and the nineteenth century. The city of Cordoba is one of the world’s great destinations with one of the wonders of the medieval world, the Great Mosque.

Winston Churchill wrote that he was “captivated by Marrakesh,” and this tour aims to show you why: walking through an ancient medina is most certainly an unforgettable experience. After visits to Casablanca, Rabat and the Roman ruins of Volubilis, you arrive at the medieval capital of Morocco, Fez, with its labyrinthine Fes el-Bali medina, 14th century religious colleges and ancient ramparts. Rejoin Aegean Odyssey in Tangier as the ship makes her way via Gibraltar to the Spanish port of Malaga. From here you travel by road to Granada to visit the Alhambra and Generalife. ANDALUSIAN SEVILLE & CORDOBA Lying on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, legend has it that Seville was founded by Hercules. During your threenight stay you’ll visit the Royal Palace Alcazar, a building that amalgamates influences starting from the Arabic period right through to the Renaissance, Baroque and the nineteenth century, and take a full day’s excursion through the Andalusian countryside to Cordoba which contains one of the wonders of the medieval world, the Great Mosque. Aegean Odyssey then sails down the Guadalquivir River to the Atlantic Ocean and the port of Cadiz from where you head for Jerez de la Frontera, a town famous for the production of sherry and, after a tour of the city, you will visit one of the famous Bodegas for a sherry tasting. MOROCCO’S HISTORIC CITIES Leaving Casablanca by road we see the Hassan II Mosque, the second largest mosque outside of Saudi Arabia, on our way to Marrakesh. Sightseeing here features a walk through the famous medina and a visit to 14th century Ben Youssef Medrassa and 12th century Kubba El Baroudyine with its beautiful dome. Continue to the Marrakesh Museum, Kasbah and Bahia Palace with its Moorish garden, finishing in the famous Djemma el Fna Square. The elegant town of El Jadida, where we stop for lunch and sightseeing, is home to an old Portuguese Medina and the Gothic, 16th-century cistern. Located on the Atlantic coast, Rabat, meaning “fortified place,” is Morocco’s capital. Highlights include the Kasbah of the Oudayas, the Oudaya Gate, built during the Almohad dynasty, the wellpreserved Hassan Tower and the Chellah from the 12th and 13th centuries, the

Mohamed V Mausoleum, burial place of the present King’s father, and the façade of the Royal Palace. Visit Volubilis to see the impressive and well-preserved Roman ruins, including approximately 30 mosaic floors dating from 25BC. MEDIEVAL FEZ TO TANGIER With its UNESCO-listed souks and 14th-century religious schools, Fez is a medieval marvel. Here you will also enjoy lunch served at the Palais Menebhi, an old private palace built as a home for the Moroccan grand vizier. An afternoon drive heads to Tangier where your tour includes the caves of Hercules – a place of stunning natural beauty and where Hercules is said to have rested after finishing his twelve labors – and the Kasbah. GIBRALTAR & THE CAPITAL OF THE MOORS Gibraltar rises nearly 1,400ft above sea level and is said to be one of the legendary Pillars of Hercules. Your tour includes Europa Point, and the famous St Michael’s Cave. This tour gives you a great introduction to Gibraltar’s history and also features the network of narrow tunnels that were used back in the Second World War. Begun in 1238, the Alhambra in Granada was the last capital of the Moors in Spain and when it fell to the Christian armies in the 15th century, they were so impressed with the splendour of the complex that they could not bear to destroy it. Tour includes the Royal Palace and the Generalife with its splendid gardens.

“My mind dances with hopes of sun-filled glades and sweet Madeira” ANON In 1951, Winston Churchill wanted to retreat somewhere ‘warm, bathable, comfortable and flowery’ where he could paint and work on his war memoirs. Wisely, he chose Madeira. You reach the island having sailed from the Andalusian city of Seville via the historical Spanish mainland port of Cadiz and en route to the Canary Islands. Here you will discover a little-known aspect of the islands as you travel to the Caldera de Taburiente National park and journey deep inland to the fascinating interior of Fuerteventura – a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. In Morocco, you’ll visit Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and Marrakesh, plus the lesser-known but equally exciting city of Taroudant. There is also time to call at the port of El Marsa, from where you will venture into the sand dunes of the Western Sahara desert.

During your time here you will visit the Royal Palace Alcazar and take a full day’s excursion through the Andalusian countryside to Cordoba which contains one of the wonders of the medieval world, the Great Mosque. Aegean Odyssey then sails down the Guadalquivir River to the Atlantic Ocean and the port of Cadiz. Cadiz was the gateway to the New World and its old town reflects the city’s rich history with its cluster of narrow streets opening on to charming small squares. After city sightseeing you will head for Jerez de la Frontera and visit a famous bodega for a sherry tasting. ATLANTIC ISLANDS – MADEIRA & THE CANARIES After a relaxing day’s sail from the Spanish mainland, your visit to Madeira includes a tour of the dramatic scenery of the island’s interior, a visit to the picturesque fishing village of Camara de Lobos, and a trip to Cabo Girao to experience Madeira’s breathtaking coastline. There is also plenty of free time to take a cocktail at Reid’s Hotel, visit the Botanical Gardens or taste Madeira’s famous wine. Sail into the harbor of Santa Cruz on La Palma island and you are greeted by the island’s stunning volcanic landscape. Here you can either explore La Palma or venture inland to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. Fuerteventura might be known for its amazing beaches, but there’s a lot more to this island. On your included tour, you’ll journey deep inland to discover forgotten villages dotted with whitewashed houses, beautiful

old churches and hidden cobbled streets. You’ll take in the traditional former capital, Betancuria, and the picturesque village of Pajara. You’ll also call in at an Aloe Vera plantation, stop in the windmill museum and get the best look at the island’s rugged interiors from the site of the Guanche Kings. These huge statues stand at one of the highest points in Fuerteventura, serving up panoramic views of the countryside below. LAAYOUNE AND THE WESTERN SAHARA DESERT From the port of El Marsa, you’ll drive across the sand dunes to the city of Laayoune with its unique SpanishSaharan architecture and colourful markets. Your journey will take you through one of the world’s great desert landscapes. THE BEST OF MOROCCO Arrive at the southern Moroccan port of Agadir and drive through the fertile Souss Valley to the old imperial city of Taroudant. Explore the medina with its ancient souks, before an afternoon drive through the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Your visit here includes labyrinthine Old Quarter and the Marjorelle Gardens. Continue on to Casablanca to rejoin Aegean Odyssey. Located on the Atlantic coastline, Rabat, meaning “fortified place”, is Morocco’s capital. Highlights include the Kasbah of the Oudaias, the Royal Palace, and the old town founded by the Carthaginians, conquered by the Romans and later settled by the Arabs. In Tangier, your tour includes the caves of Hercules – a place of stunning natural beauty and where Hercules is said to have rested after finishing his 12 labours – and the Kasbah.

Naturally, guests at their own discretion may wish to show their appreciation to individuals offering exceptional service. Please note that a service charge of 12.5% is automatically added to your account for any bar service. ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES Cabins and suites feature European 2-pin round outlets with 220 voltage. Hair dryers are provided in your cabin and electric rollers, curling irons, electric shavers, and other small appliances can be used. Adapters/converters are available on board for conversion to 110 volts if required; however, we recommend you bring your own in the event supplies are limited. For safety reasons, travel irons are not allowed. LAUNDRY AND PRESSING Valet service is available for laundry and pressing. A laundry bag and order form are provided in your cabin. COMMUNICATIONS Aegean Odyssey is fitted with the latest satellite communication technology and direct dial telephones in all cabins. There is also an internet center on Belvedere Deck and charges are based on connection time.

CHILDREN Voyages to Antiquity cruise programs are destination focused and designed for adults. There are no facilities for children on board Aegean Odyssey. We consider the cruises unsuitable for children under the age of twelve. DINING ARRANGEMENTS Dining arrangements on Aegean Odyssey are flexible as both restaurants have an “open-seating” policy with meal times arranged to suit the ship’s time in port and the shore excursion programs. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the Terrace Café, while lunch and dinner only are available in the Marco Polo Restaurant. On days when full-day shore excursion tours are operated, lunch will only be available in either the Terrace Café or Marco Polo Restaurant. Reservations can be made for dinner in the Marco Polo Restaurant. CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS We expect all guests to have consideration for other people. If, in our reasonable opinion, the behavior of any guest is likely to cause upset or distress to any third party or damage to property, the Company reserves the right, in extreme circumstances, to terminate that guest’s cruise and land program without prior notice. No refunds will be made and the Company will not pay any expenses or costs incurred as a result of the termination of the trip arrangements. The departure of the ship from any port will not be delayed for guests are who are not on board by the official departure time as advised by the ship.

Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a complete vacation package and take advantage of Voyages to Antiquity’s Low-Cost Economy Class air programs. Sample fares from several North American cities are shown here. Please ask your Travel Agent or one of our representatives for the low cost fares from over 40 additional US and Canadian cities. Using the world’s leading airlines, Voyages to Antiquity offers you convenient routings and exceptional savings. And with all transfers included, you’ll be met on arrival at your destination airport, and enjoy being transferred in comfort to Aegean Odyssey. At the end of your vacation, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home. Our exceptional air savings also extend to Business Class air travel. If you like traveling in extra comfort, be sure to ask about our business class fares when you book your vacation. Customized Air Travel – You may wish to make changes to the flight itinerary provided by Voyages to Antiquity. Your Travel Agent can make these flight requests on your behalf when you confirm your reservation. For example, you may wish to request travel on a specific carrier, or travel on different departure or return dates. Any additional costs associated with the request will be added to your reservation once your new itinerary has been accepted. Seat Assignments – Voyages to Antiquity will request aisle and next seating when making flight arrangements. Some airlines no longer allow specific seats to be requested for Economy Class travel.

Frequent Flyer Mileage – You may be able to accrue miles on most carriers we use but will not be able to use miles for upgrades or any other amenities. Please note that not all airline alliances allow accrual of miles from one carrier to the other and guests should check this with their Frequent Flyer Mileage program affiliate. Special requests such as wheelchair, meals, or bookings in the new economy comfort seating areas should be arranged directly with the airlines. SAMPLE AIR ADD-ONS ATLANTA

They also cover any hotel or air arrangements made on your behalf by Voyages to Antiquity. By making a reservation and paying your deposit you agree to be bound by the provisions contained herein and to accept the terms and conditions of the Voyages to Antiquity Passage Contract (cruise ticket), a copy of which may be obtained from your Travel Agent or from Voyages to Antiquity. The provisions herein contain important information on cancellation by the guest, changes in the itinerary, the limitations and exclusions of liability on the part of Voyages to Antiquity, the operator of the vessel and of independent contractors, the health and immigration requirements that are your responsibility, and other relevant terms and conditions. Deposits and Payments A 10% deposit is required within 7 days of booking or sooner as noted on your confirmation invoice. The final balance is due no later than 90 days prior to sailing. Guests who do not make required deposits or final payment at appropriate times are subject to automatic cancellation without notice. Cancellation penalties as indicated on the invoice or as set forth in these Terms and Conditions apply (see Cancellation Policy). American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Discover Card, travel agency checks, and personal checks are accepted for deposits and final payments. Third party credit card charges can be accepted only when accompanied by valid authorization to charge from the relevant card owner. Travel Protection We strongly recommend that all guests purchase comprehensive Trip Cancellation/Interruption Protection Plan for the full purchase price of

Government Fees and Taxes, possible fuel and Exchange Rate supplements and Gift Orders are fully refundable regardless of the cancellation notice. Air-related fuel surcharges and government taxes and fees related to the air travel are not subject to a cancellation fee, provided notice of air travel cancellation is received by Voyages to Antiquity prior to scheduled date of travel. See Air Transportation section for further details. Changes to a Reservation Changes to a reservation at any time, including air and hotel arrangements confirmed by Voyages to Antiquity, may result in an assessment of administrative fees and service charges by the third party supplier(s) and is beyond the control of Voyages to Antiquity. Guests are responsible

for any additional costs incurred as a result of these changes. Some changes, including name changes, may be considered cancellations and applicable fees will be assessed. Itinerary Changes The cruise and tour programs featured in this brochure are planned many months in advance. Occasionally changes have to be made to the published itineraries both before and after bookings are confirmed as circumstances beyond the control of Voyages to Antiquity (force majeure), may require us to correct information in the brochure that appears by error or omission. Most changes are minor but occasionally a “significant change” must be made. A “significant change” before departure is deemed to be a change to the initial embarkation or disembarkation port to a different geographical area or a change in the duration of your cruise and tour program by more than 12 hours. Ports of call or timing changes in ports of call are not considered to be “significant changes.” Voyages to Antiquity shall have no responsibility or liability for any loss, inconvenience, or expense incurred by guests as a result of any changes or cancellations whether or not the changes are a “significant change.” (See further terms relating to changes and cancellation found in the Passage Contract.) A cruise may be canceled for reasons of force majeure (including but not limited to war, civil unrest, natural disasters, and adverse weather conditions) or in the case a governmental organization issues a specific travel warning in the area where the cruise is to operate. We also reserve the right to cancel a cruise at any time up to ten weeks before sailing if we consider there are insufficient reservations for the cruise to be viable. If a “significant change” or decision to cancel a cruise is made, you or your Travel Agent will be advised as soon as possible about any alternative arrangements available. You can choose to accept

these arrangements or cancel with a full refund. In the unlikely event that a ‘force majeure’ event occurs or a travel warning is issued, after a cruise has started, Voyages to Antiquity shall not be liable to pay any compensation for any changes in itinerary or omitted ports of call or shortened or lengthened stays in any port or ports other than refunds received by our suppliers. The ship’s captain is responsible for the safety of the ship, passengers, and crew and has absolute discretion in making any alterations to the itinerary that he considers necessary. Independent Travel Arrangements Voyages to Antiquity is not responsible with regard to air or land travel or accommodation arrangements made using non-refundable, restricted travel or frequent flyer air tickets or frequent traveler hotel accommodations. This exclusion of liability includes the consequences of delays in the arrival at any airport, hotel, or port location that may occur when guests are using independently arranged air or land travel or when changes in travel arrangements may need to be made due to changes Voyages to Antiquity may make to the embarkation or disembarkation ports and the time of embarkation and disembarkation. The Passenger Ticket/Passage Contract contains full terms and conditions for these exclusions. Final Travel Documentation Travel documents including any air tickets are issued only after passport details have been received and final payment has been made to Voyages to Antiquity. In most cases the final documentation is sent no later than 21-30 days prior to scheduled departure. It is the responsibility of the guest to verify that the full name(s) on any cruise, land, or air arrangements and reservations are the same as listed on his/her passport. Voyages to Antiquity is not responsible for cancellation or pre-bookable fees imposed by any supplier due to incorrect names provided by the Travel Agent or guest.

Responsibility The responsibility of Voyages to Antiquity and the operator of the vessel is strictly limited according to the Terms and Conditions set forth in the Passage Contract that you receive prior to embarkation. You are urged to read the Passage Contract carefully. A sample is available to be mailed on request or can be viewed and printed from the Voyages to Antiquity website at any time. Transportation onboard the ship is provided solely by the ship operator and pursuant to the Passage Contract. Voyages to Antiquity reserves the right to accept or decline any person as a guest for any reason. Voyages to Antiquity shall not be responsible for any act, event or omission during the time passengers are not aboard the Voyages to Antiquity vessel. Voyages to Antiquity acts only as an agent for the supplier of off-ship services such as airlines and other off-ship transportation carriers, meals, shore excursions, accommodations, air ambulance and shore-side physicians. Guests agree not to hold Voyages to Antiquity, its owners, agents or representatives liable for any loss, injury, expense or damage which results directly or indirectly from any act or omission, whether negligent or otherwise, of any third party person or firm which is to, or does provide goods or services in connection with the trip or any available option. Without limiting the foregoing, Voyages to Antiquity shall have no liability to passengers for the quality of services at, and the condition, cleanliness or safety of a hotel, housing facility, or conveyance, or for any transportation delay, including but not limited to liability for inconvenience, shortened vacation time, additional expenses, or any other kind of damage. Voyages to Antiquity expressly disclaims all responsibility of any nature whatsoever for any loss, damage or injury to property or person resulting from air, rail, motorcoach or any other form of transportation other than that actually provided by the Voyages to Antiquity vessel.

Air Transportation Voyages to Antiquity does not operate, control or supervise any airlines and shall have no responsibility for carriers failing to meet schedules whether or not air tickets were issued by Voyages to Antiquity or its designated vendor. Voyages to Antiquity is not responsible for any expenses or consequences relating to air transportation that results from causes including but not limited to inclement weather, strikes, flight cancellations, changes/delays in the ship’s schedule or a change/delay in schedule or routing made by a guest, travel agent or airlines. Any changes, including cancellations, requested by a Travel Agent or a guest to a confirmed flight reservation or issued ticket will incur an administrative fee. Any additional costs incurred by Voyages to Antiquity including penalties are made at the guest’s expense. Any charges imposed by an air carrier to Voyages to Antiquity after an air reservation is confirmed due to provision of incorrect name(s), or increase in airline related fuel surcharges, will be added to the total cost of your cruise or Cruise-Tour. If an airline ticket issued in conjunction with a Voyages to Antiquity air program is lost the guest is responsible for the full cost of replacement. Airline tickets are only refundable to Voyages to Antiquity and the amount of any refund owing to the guest, is determined by Voyages to Antiquity. Services provided by Independent Contractors All shore-side tours and services described in this brochure or on the website including air, hotel, transfers and excursions are provided by independent contractors. Voyages to Antiquity acts solely as ticketing agent for all shore-side activities and has no legal obligation or liability of any kind to guests for acts or omissions in connection with or arising out of arrangements with independent contractors, including but not limited to airline carriers, ground/tour operators,

73

and hotels since they are neither agents for nor employees of Voyages to Antiquity. Guests with Special Needs The cruise and tour programs featured in this brochure include extensive sightseeing and to fully participate each guest must be reasonably fit and have no walking difficulties. Whenever possible Voyages to Antiquity will try to accommodate guests with special needs as long as the mobility issues are not an impediment to others on the guided tours. For complete policy details, refer to the General Information section of this brochure or to that section of the Voyages to Antiquity website. Luggage Handling All luggage must conform to and will be handled in accordance with the regulations and restrictions of airlines, government security requirements, and third party suppliers. Individual Airline charges or fees relating to checked and carry-on luggage are the guests' responsibility. Applicable fees and charges can be found on each airline's website. Charges and fees relating to the carriage and handling of luggage excluding porterage at Voyages to Antiquity's included hotels or porterage at the pier and to/from the Voyages to Antiquity vessel are the guest's responsibility. Voyages to Antiquity

reserves the right to search guest luggage at any time and to refuse any items that might be considered dangerous. All hand-carried luggage and personal effects are the responsibility of the guest at all times. Voyages to Antiquity is not responsible for the loss or damage to guest luggage. Luggage insurance is strongly recommended. Please refer to the Passenger Ticket/Passage Contract for the full details of the Voyages to Antiquity Luggage Policy. Tipping on Board Please note that gratuities for cabin and restaurant staff on board Aegean Odyssey are included in your fare. However, a service charge of 12.5% is automatically added to your account for any bar service.
