Sail with Voyages to Antiquity in April and May 2017, on an 18-day Grand Voyage through three countries, taking you to Spain and Portugal, then to Madeira and the North African coast, before a return to Spain for one of the most spectacular experiences a small-ship can deliver. Along the way enjoy some sherry-tasting in Jerez de la Frontera, the town that gave the wine its name. In Portugal, gaze out from Sagres Point across renaissance-era World’s End, or explore the historical resort of Portimao. Try some wine in the capital of Madeira, and visit the island’s most famous attraction, the Botanical Gardens. In the Canary Islands, take a sightseeing trip through the villages and towns of La Palma, and in Lanzarote visit the famous Fire Mountain of Timanfaya National Park. In Morocco, enjoy a scenic drive across the Atlas Mountains, to the medieval souks of Taroudant and the labyrinthine alleyways of Marrakesh’s old medina. See the palm-lined boulevards and colonial architecture of Rabat or take a tour of Casablanca and the Hassan II mosque, the second largest in the world with the tallest minaret in the world. Finally, relax on deck aboard Aegean Odyssey for a stunning cruise along the Guadalquivir River to Seville in the heart of Spanish Andalucia.

Travel with the Experts John Julius Norwich Historian and Broadcaster Joining the British Foreign Service after studying at New College, Oxford, John Julius served in Yugoslavia and Lebanon, and as a member of British delegation to the Disarmament Conference in Geneva. In 1964, Norwich left the diplomatic service to become a writer: his publications include The Normans in Sicily, a three-volume history of Byzantium and A History of Venice. This career move was a stroke of good fortune for Voyages to Antiquity as John Julius’s wonderful history of the Mediterranean, The Middle Sea, inspired the founder of Voyages to Antiquity to offer our unique brand of cruising in this fascinating region. Lord Norwich is also Chairman of Colnaghi, the oldest fine art dealers in London, amongst many other prestigious appointments in the world of fine art and music. He was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian order in 1993 and we are delighted to welcome him back on board for this special cruise.
