The Radial Filter In

Lightroom 5 by Jim Sanders One of the added features in Lightroom 5 is the Radial Filter in the Local Adjustments panel. The Radial Filter tool makes it possible to “re-light” the scene by adding vignettes to any location within the image. Circles or ovals in any size and even on a diagonal are placed in any location within the image. A move of the exposure slider darkens the area outside the oval to any degree you choose. For this image, the radial filter was used to focus attention on the DJ. Also… a second adjustment oval was used to give a slight “punch” to the pair of lights above the DJ’s head. Another nice feature of the Radial Filter is that it’s not just for exposure. All of the available local adjustments like clarity, temperature or highlights can be used as well. 5

Coming from Harrisonburg, the entrance drive for Robert Good Photography is ½ mile on the left after passing Route 644 leading to Massanutten Resort. (There is an Exxon station and a stoplight at this intersection.)

From Elkton, travel 4 miles west on Rt. 33. You will approach a wooded hillside on the right. At the woods, turn right into the drive. (Look for the brick wall and gate at the entrance.) 6
