Much is said about the availability of online education for photographers. There is seemingly an endless supply of information for just about any topic. And, to be sure, there is value in taking advantage of this content.

But, there is so much more… For all who take an active role in a professional organization like our VPPA, something else happens that cannot be obtained by sitting in front of a computer screen. That “something” can be different for one person to another, but it’s there. For me it’s the personal contact with peers (resulting in many lasting friendships) plus all the in-person education that happens throughout the year. For those who are working toward degrees, starting the journey at the state level is invaluable. In a broader sense, the profession of photography is strengthened by strong organizations. I would love to see more photographers come to the VPPA (or the PPA affiliate of their particular state). Having just returned from IMAGING USA, I was fascinated by the number of photographers in attendance… numbers that were in the thousands! Just here in Virginia, PPA members are in the several hundreds. What an advantage it would be for ALL if more of our Virginia PPA photographers took on the combo of VPPA / PPA membership. The possibilities offer an amazing challenge for us. VPPA Convention We are just eleven days away from our own state convention. All info you might need is at VPPA.org. Go to the Convention tab and Mardi Gras Convention 2015 Speakers and Info. Hope to see you in Richmond! Jim
