10:00 ~ 3:00 Nature Photography Seminar A Presentation by Thomas Ramsay Award-winning photographer/cinematographer Tom Ramsay will present a four hour program on nature photography to members of the VPPA on Monday, June 17. His presentation will be based in part, on the hour-long video production he and his wife Nancy Goetzinger have completed on North America’s Atlantic coastline. Selections of that production can be viewed at www.theimagecenter.com.
Tom’s presentation will cover a wide range of nature photography topics including some of the photographic techniques he and Nancy used to capture the beauty of coastal habitats and the diversity of resulting life forms that exist on the East Coast shoreline from Georgia to Newfoundland. His presentation will be visualized both with demonstrations of camera techniques and images from a diversity of landscapes and wildlife subjects that he has photographed from around the world.
Tom has won more than 30 national and international production awards including the Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival and three CINE Golden Eagle awards. He has photographed and directed for Time-Life’s “Wild Wild World of Animals,” Mutual of Omaha’s “Wild Kingdom,” the U.S. National Park Service, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. His films have been seen worldwide on ABC, BBC, CBS, and PBS television networks. He has just been awarded the University of April 2013 Minnesota Alumnus of Notable Achievement award for his work in photography, preservation of the environment, and his contributions to medical science as an expert in the field of digital image analysis. He is currently working on the refinement of algorithms for the automatic computer detection of TB, and breast and kidney cancer using photo microscopy, MRI, xray and ultra sound modalities. He has 16 patents granted or pending in the field of image analysis and optics.
Tom also teaches photography courses ranging in student levels from Foundations to Master classes at ArtSquare in Leesburg, Virginia. Samples of Tom and Nancy’s nature writing and photography can be seen at www.momentwithnature.com.

Tom Ramsay will take us into the world of nature and travel photography. This promises to be worthwhile day for learning as well as good fun and good food.
We have come to expect terrific programs at our summer seminars. Seniors, business, lighting, marketing, portraits, weddings and more are all a part of the events scheduled for Saturday evening and all day Sunday. This yearʼs speakers are VPPA members, Jessica Robertson, Bruce and Brian Muncy, David Abel, Mary-Fisk Taylor, Jamie Hayes, and Pat Hansen. Thatʼs quite a lineup!
WELCOME GAYLE! The Northern District welcomes our newest member, Gayle Driver. Gayle and her family live in Broadway.
Then on Monday, as an extra day for extra pay, we have North Carolina Photographer of the Year, Jonathan and Bonnie Burton. Look for the exciting details of their program in coming newsletters. David Lee Michaels has the registration for the summer seminar ready to go. Just go to your member account at VPPA.org.
