The Best of Both Worlds

Style. Design. Color. Perspective. Lighting. Angle. How does one incorporate these and more into the fine art of interior architectural photography? The architectural photographer must deliver to the client, a product that effectively translates the living, working and public space into a two-dimensional image. An image which comes alive and communicates the client’s success in design, engineering, construction, installations and project management. Do you have a desire to learn how to photograph interiors? If so come and spend the day with Jeanette. From conception through completion, Jeanette will take you through the process. We’ll discuss and understand the needs of various clients so that we can create and deliver an image that will give these clients exactly what is needed to effectively communicate their products. Once the images are captured in the camera, we’ll begin the post-production using both Lightroom and Photoshop. Jeanette will guide you through her workflow process where you will gain an understanding of how to optimize the image for presentation to the client. So come and be prepared to experience a full day of interior architectural photography where you will learn the basics along with some tips and tricks to create beautiful images for your client.

An after-convention message from Kathy Kupka, Northern District Governor Hi Everyone! Well, the VPPA had another wonderful Convention! Everyone learned a lot, socialized, and partied hardy while keeping warm inside during the arctic freeze outside. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the Convention such a success. The variety of speakers was great. Entering the print competition digitally made it easier this year. Congratulations to all who received blue ribbons, not an easy task this year. The Mardi Gras was a blast. For two of our new members, Maureen Cryer and Nancy Sander, this was their first VPPA convention. What a nice way to introduce Maureen and Nancy to our association! While not exactly a new member, Katie Garlock has returned to the VPPA and stepped right in for this year’s convention. We were also thrilled to see Les Miller back with us at the convention. Les is getting back on his feet (literally), and this is just wonderful to see. Thanks go to Northern District members who helped with the convention. Don Aittama and Jim Sanders played a huge role in documenting the convention. Don “lights up” the awards ceremony to photograph all the many award presentations. Jim’s albums are all over the the VPPA and Northern District face book pages. We all enjoy the many door prizes that are passed out all through the convention. We can appreciate the efforts of the door prize committee; Barbi Barnum, Deborah Schmitz and Liz Vance for the door prizes they generated from a variety of companies. Benson Blake helped out with the AV team and then stepped in to put together the banquet slide show. Thanks, Benson! Thanks go to Jim Sanders for coordinating the Polly Frye raffle ticket sales again this year. Anthony Rumley has to be happy with his ticket purchase as he came away with the $500 cash prize. Skibo Adams was the recipient of the $1000 Polly Frye Scholarship. Lisa Carter and Jim Sanders were co-chairs for this year’s trade show which had some awesome vendors. Behind the scenes (and very important) help came from Jim Carpenter and Kevin Hurley as well. That Mardi Gras party that was such a blast; well, we have a very special Northern District member to thank for pulling everything together to make the party such a huge success! Thank you Miranda Durrer-Davis for all of your dedicated work. Jim Sanders received the FP degree this year. This accomplishment comes from reaching 170 points including specific merit requirements from competition. Congratulations Jim! Recognition does not end with the FP degree, however. For each additional 85 points added after receiving the FP degree, a star is added to the ribbon. At this year’s awards ceremony, Jim Carpenter received his 5th star. Jim, you are an inspiration to everyone. Continuing education is a big part of VPPA membership. This year, Barbi Barnum was awarded the Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship provides $750 that may be applied to tuition at a PPA affiliated school. Looking forward to our summer seminar which will be held in Fredericksburg from August 30 – September 1 (notice it's Sunday – Tuesday instead of starting on a Saturday). Guest speakers will be Sandra Pearce, and Chris Garner and Cathy Anderson. The other district governors and I are taking names of VPPA members who would like to share their specialty in short two-hour programs on Sunday. Also, there will be a pool party! Looking forward to seeing you at Jeanette's program in March.
