Hello Blue Ridge! I hope your fall is off to a busy start! We had a fantastic time at the seminar. All of our speakers did a great job and everyone left feeling inspired and ready to get back to work. It is truly a team effort to put on a seminar and the other governors and I appreciate everyone's help. At our Sunday morning session, our speaker, Doug Mattice from the Northern district, gave a program called "Prepare for the Upswing: Business, Life, and Productivity." There was a quote in his information packet that stuck with me and I don't remember who the quote was from. It was a simple concept that is nothing new, but I had never heard it phrased that way. The quote was, "Success leaves clues."

We have all heard countless presentations and been wowed by the success of the speakers we see. While it is important to put our own spin on our businesses, it is also helpful, and even comforting, to know that the path has been laid out before us. These clues can be found not only in our industry, but in all successful businesses. As you go through your daily life, pay attention to the interactions that occur at the businesses you patronize, whether they are brick-and-mortar businesses or online businesses. What is it that they do that brings you back? Why are they successful? What clue have they left that you can apply to your business? Michael has scheduled a fantastic October meeting for us. I attended the precon class that Gordon Kreplin gave at our last convention. He is a must-see! I look forward to seeing you all! Happy Fall!

Seminar, energized and ideated and all revved up for the year-end rush. I'm sorry I missed, but it was a long drive from Rome, Italy or I'd have been there for sure. But when your bride drags you off-shore, the wise grasshopper

quietly goes when/where he's told. 45 years of marriage have taught me THAT at least.
They've also taught me that when a world class speaker like Gordon Kreplin confides in one of the other VPPA Lt. Governors that he needs ONE MORE SPEAKING engagement to get his Crasftsman degree, the wise grasshopper jumps all over it. Thus we have a special opportunity for our own Blue Ridge October meeting. See the flyer, but be sure you save the date: October 20, for a one-day, all-day mix of classroom and hands-on learning with Gordon Kreplin. You can't afford to miss it, it's FREE, and it might just be your last chance to hear what he has to say without forking over some folding green, 'cause he'll HAVE that degree and can hold out for the Big Bucks for his next speaking engagement.
And, of course, the Official Flyer:
If you have any suggestions or if you have an article you would like to be published in the newsletter, please email Lisa Akers (lisacakers@yahoo.com).

How did we get here? Did we just drop in to this time zone with digital in hand, or has there been an evolution of culture, thought and technology that has brought us to this time and place. How has the evolution of art informed us about composition, dynamic range, subject matter and posing in our photography skill sets? And what in the world is zone theory and does it really apply to our captures?
What motivates us to be photographers? How can we get out of the way of the lens and better serve our clients? Allowing our gifts to develop in service to others.

What makes a great printable image? Where do we start and how do we get there? Printing for competition and for clients is not so different. Discussed will be how to assess dynamic range before pushing the shutter – knowing what is possible in both print and electronic delivery. Basic color profiling will be reviewed as well as the judicious use of filters in photoshopin particular, nik filters.
