From the Governor... This month is the annual VPPA Summer Seminar, to be held this year at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel on September 13-15. Details, of course, including online registration is at VPPA.org. Kevin Hurley recently wrote a piece I’m sure most of us read about talking with some folks who dropped out of the VPPA, saying they’d not gotten much out of their investment. This is tragic, of course, because annual dues go to pay for the annual convention and summer seminar (now at hand!), as well as monthly meeting speakers. Of course, you get nothing out of a program you don’t attend. There’s little to learn staying home hanging out by the fireplace, you have to go do SOMETHING. Our year is almost over. Summer Seminar is almost the last chance you have to really get your money’s worth here. If you haven’t signed up to go, you are
missing a bet. Several, actually. We’ve lined up some dynamite programs for you to attend. Bert & Cindy Behnke will take you “In Search of the Perfect Portrait,” and promise to tell you how to market and sell as well as light and shoot that portrait. Doug Mattice has promised to help you write a painless (and crucial, if you plan to actually succeed in business) business plan in a mere 2 hours Saturday night. Robin Owen is going to explain how to market and sell Boudoir Portraits on the Monday Extra Day for Extra Pay. And in the afternoon, she’ll demonstrate, and even help attendees shoot some of their own! Egads, we’ve presenters, and models, and TWO chances to USE your cameras, Sunday evening as well as Monday afternoon. What’s not to like? How can anyone possibly remain seated firmly on their hands and NOT go to the VPPA Summer Seminar?

Seminar coming up in Tidewater! Keep an ear to the ground for some phenomenal presentations! Then in October we’ll visit Jen’s Studio for some newborn fun with Lisa Carter!

Now that the sweltering hot summer is behind us, we can focus on learning cool, new and exciting information re: newborn photography. Please “save the date” for our next meeting, which will be on October 13th at JollyJenPhotography studio, located in the lower level of Burnt Chimney Family Medicine at 6675 Booker T. Washington Hwy in Wirtz, VA. We will begin at 10am. Review Lisa Carter’s bio, as well as her amazing images to see how exciting this meeting is going to be! I have sent out a couple of messages, in hopes of finding a newborn 5-12 days old that she will use as our “model” for the day. If you know someone that is near the studio area that fits this description, please have them contact me directly at jollyjenphotography@gmail.com. I will need everyone to RSVP to me by Friday, October 10th. More details to follow...
Seminar... I hate I am going to miss it (annual family vacation) A BIG shout out to the Governors of VPPA that worked very hard on getting this event organized. Cheers to an awesome meeting and a beautiful fall.... Hope to see you in the studio on the 13th...
