Recommended for: Children age 5–9yrs. Beginners: No previous musical experience required. Instructors: Ross Curran, Holly Duff Fee: $200
Integrating music, movement and visual art, children learn to express themselves using Colourstrings educational principles. They will build core musical skills as they become intrepid ‘explorers’ on an adventure weaving singing, movement, percussion, games, drama and art into a traditional story from around the world, with a short performance on the last day. Each week will focus on a different world region, so participants can either attend a single week, or both weeks. Children should bring a drink and snacks and dress appropriately to get messy or bring art clothes.
Combining music, movement, drama, and speech in the ‘Orff Approach’ to music education, this class seeks to incorporate learning music into a child’s natural world of play. For children at the beginning grades of elementary school, this class presents basic music fundamentals through musical games and activities, and imaginative storytelling incorporating instruments and movement. An ‘instrument of the day’ gives kids an up-closeand-personal experience of an instrument they may like to learn. Children should bring a drink and snacks and dress appropriately to get messy.
