standard-fit cupboards. A local carpenter and joiner, Tom Worsley, interpreted our designs perfectly and made a beautiful, practical kitchen, which is integral to our open-plan space. Lighting and decor were also important elements of the downstairs design, and Ed and I spent a long time thinking about how to create different moods in each space while keeping it all connected and cohesive, ’ she adds. Whitewashed walls with splashes of pink and green run throughout the home, sanded floorboards and brushed-brass fixtures and fittings add warmth and character, and the couple ’ s love of mid-century design can be seen in their carefully selected furniture and lighting.
‘We ’ re delighted with our home now, ’ says Katie. ‘The new open-plan layout works so well, and because we ended up working within the original footprint of the house, it feels like it’ s always been this way. We had to take a bit of a detour (or two) to get to this point, but we still pinch ourselves every time we walk down our tree-lined road, into a home that gives us such a sense of peace and belonging – we couldn
