1. SHOP BRITISH If you're renovating your bathroom, sourcing sanitaryware made in the UK – that doesn’t have to be shipped from abroad – is a great way to be more eco- friendly and cut down your carbon footprint. Consider British brands such as Waters Baths of Asbourne (left), Britton Bathrooms, Crosswater and Burlington Bathrooms.

2. BIN THOSE BOTTLES Swap toiletries in plastic bottles for more ecofriendly solid bars of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body butter and face cleanser. New ethical skincare brand Fruu makes bars infused with ‘wonky’ fruits that would otherwise go to waste – they’re vegan-friendly, have recyclable packaging and each one lasts over 45 washes; from £7.99 for a shower block.

3. GO FOR GREENER CLEANERS Switch out harsh chemical cleaners for formulas made with natural ingredients. Greenscents’ attractive time and time again with products such as multi-surface spray and sanitiser, full of greatsmelling ingredients including citrus, peppermint and aloe vera; from £5.50 for a 500ml bottle of loo cleaner. 4. BUY BAMBOO Attractive, antibacterial and biodegradable, bamboo is a brilliant material for bathrooms – and is surprisingly versatile. John Lewis & Partners and Dunelm are both good places to look for bamboo bathroom accessories and furniture; swap plastic toothbrushes for those by Bambooth, £4.49 each, which have been approved by the Oral Health Foundation, or try tree-free loo roll, £24 for 23 rolls at Bumboo.
