Ariel Pink (cuyo nombre de guerrilla es Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti y su nombre real Ariel Rosenberg) empezó quemando sus propios CD-R de pésimo sonido y brillantes creaciones que ganaron la admiración del submundo pop en el pasado decenio; desde los vanguardistas Animal Collective hasta hipsters como MGMT y los grupos de la escena chillwave que aglutina el sello Carpark Records, todos reconocen su deuda. Con pelo teñido de rubio, bermudas ajustadas, mocasines, medias blancas y antenas de coleóptero, Pink salió a escena y arrancó con “Kinski Assassin”, el poderoso, psicodélico track apertura de Mature Themes, su nuevo disco, y continuó presentando temas de los dos últimos (y más promocionados) álbumes, que suenan como una afable pantomima del clásico Rumours, de Fleetwood Mac. Cantar y bailar La formación de Haunted Graffiti incluye a tres intérpretes en bajo, guitarra, teclados y batería, pero Pink, además de cantar y bailar (un dato no menor), sigue al pie de la letra el modus operandi de sus primeras actuaciones, manipulando pistas pregrabadas, caja de ritmos y efectos de voces en una consola que, irónicamente, conservaba el precinto de aduana. Hacia la mitad del show el músico invocó una rebelión de acoples, ecos y delays de EyeKluv 11
ultratumba que paralizaron el baile. Pink es un showman peculiar, un nigromante aniñado, sin prejuicios ni (y eso alimenta su transgresión) la intención de provocar escándalo. Sus influencias amalgaman todo lo que oyó en su California natal (especialmente, el soul blanco de Todd Rundgren y Prince), procesados por la corrosión punk y el glamour camp de Madonna. De hecho, durante el embrujo de aquellos instantes pareció la reencarnación de Leland Palmer, el asesino psicótico de Twin Peaks, jugando a ser la chica material. Después, sonó “Round And Round” y el clima festivo volvió a Niceto.
Para alguien que inició su carrera en aislamiento, haciendo grabaciones caseras (su musa fue y sigue siendo R. Stevie Moore, pionero del rock en baja fidelidad), Ariel Pink alcanzó estatus de performer cautivante; en la hora y media del show pegó brincos de colegiala, aulló, gimió y filtró su distintivo falsete por toda clase de efectos, en canciones pop de rítmica irreverente e irregular. Luego de viejos temas como “She’s My Girl”, “Beefbud” y la celestial “Among Dreams”, el recital culminó veinte minutos pasada la medianoche. Para los congregados, se vivió como un exorcismo…

El show de Ariel Pink en Argentina no merece mucho análisis; gozamos de un artista único que disfruta cada segundo de la noche, alguien que no se toma a sí mismo en serio por eso es capaz de montar un show principalmente visual el cual se complementa con técnicas vocales que por momentos realmente impresionan. Una hermosa velada acompañada de buena música, que obviamente, cumplió con mis expectativas.

Get over yourself Emin!

Vulk participó de La Noche de los Museos, el evento del Gobierno de la Ciudad que apunta a re descubrir los museos de la Ciudad a través de una propuesta interdisciplinaria que reunió a artistas de distintas áreas del arte urbano y la cultura de calle. La cita se dio en el MARQ –Museo de Arquitectura y Diseño ubicado en el corazón del parque Thais, Av. Del Libertador y Callao de C.A.B.A.
Gracias a la invitación de BOMB.BA | invasiones urbanas, nuestro Skate Team y amigos realizaron una demostración sobre un mini ramp intervenido por los stencileros Malatesta y Tester a lo largo de toda la noche.

También participaron Sael con una obra de gran formato que interpeló directamente al legendario edificio del museo y hubo una muestra del cartelista peruano Elliot Tupac con sus famosas serigrafías de la cultura “chicha”. Más de un millón de visitantes pasaron por el lugar que a su vez pudieron disfrutar del s urf instrumental de la banda Lefunders y distintos sets de DJs invitados.

El Sudamericano tuvo la visita de la fundación Poseiden, de USA. Otra organización que como Girls Assault va generando skate por latinoamerica y lo hacen de la mano de grandes skaters calificadas como Mimí Knoop, representante femenina en los Xgames en Vert; Lorena Lima, residente de New Jersey gran skater de street y conocedora también de las pistas de los Xgames. Lorena Lima y Jessica Florencio de Poseiden Team, en conjunto con nuestras referentes nacionales, Paula Videla (rider Team Vulk), Paula Costales, (rider Vulk), Eugenia Ginepro, Valentina Etchegoyen y Coco Cianciarulo dieron comienzo a las actividades del día con una agitada demo, desplegando a lo largo de toda la jornada excelente nivel, estilo y mucho control. Además participaron en la demo chicas que vinieron desde Venezuela y Brasil, como Pamela Rosa (representante de Team Vulk Brasil) con un nivel increible y las también brasileras Pipa Souza y Euli Vieira. Se entregaron primero los premios a los amateurs del bestrick y a las diferentes categorías, muchos productos y trofeos. Euge Ginepro, ganadora del best trick con un backside Disaster en el plano del wallride, las siguieron Evelyn Enríquez y Valen Etchegoyen, quienes fueron las que se ubicaron en los primeros puestos en la categoria avanzada.

cordoba Pista Arroyito en Cordoba. 2da fecha del Circuito Nacional Femenino Girls Assault. La pista de Arroyito se llenó de chicas con ganas de compartir una tarde a puro skate femenino. Se acercaron a participar chicas de muchos lugares de Argentina como Mar del Plata, Rosario, Buenos Aires, Mendoza y Catamarca. Girls assault contó con las 3 categorías (Iniciantes principiantes - avanzadas) y con aproximadamente 50 inscriptas. Vulk estuvo presente para acompañar a Mecu y a Paulita para poder participar una vez mas de este circuito nacional.

Arranca el tour en Ezeiza. Pasajes hay de todos los precios, sobre todo por la época en la que estoy viajando. Diciembre, vísperas del nuevo año, EyeKluv 53
temporada más que alta en Brasil debido a sus codiciadas playas. Nuestro destino, mucho mas rocker y violento que los paraísos terrenales: San Pablo.
Como llegar: Una vez que llegas, lo mejor es que te busque algún amigo, siempre cuando viajo trato de ir con locales que son los que te van mostrar el lugar realmente. Si no conoces a nadie podes hablar con amigos de Argentina que siempre alguno te tira data interesante. En caso de que no haya amigos, hay otras opciones: durante el día el tránsito del aeropuerto a la ciudad es infernal así
que no recomiendo taxi ya que te costará un ojo de la cara. Hay varios buses al estilo MTL o si no la opción mas roots es bondi+subte (Uno de los más modernos del mundo) Es una opción mas que interesante, sale algo así como 7 reais y podes pagar con monedas. En el caso de que llegues de noche la única es Taxi. 103 R aprox.

Difícil recordar una banda hardcore-punk de aquellos años más veloz y divertida que la del lunático Jello Biafra y sus weirdo-freaks. “Plastic..” es su segundo vinilo, el cual incluyó el Ep.“In God..” editado el año anterior, ambos por su propio sello Alternative Tentacles. Un trabajo de atmósferas inquietantes y movilizadoras, un desesperado grito de rebelión que nos empuja a abrir los ojos y hacer algo por nosotros mismos. Riot!

Considerada hoy banda crucial, surgida en la escena punk australiana de mediados de la década de los setenta. Desde Sidney y hacia el mundo, explotan con este, su primer registro sonoro de larga duración: Radios Appear. Un legado musical eterno, de filosas y rockeras guitarras elegantes. De actitud agresiva; sonido fino por momentos; e inmortal espíritu batallador. El tiempo no pasa para los Birdman, siendo aún sumamente influyentes en nuestros tiempos.
De las mentes holandesas de los hermanos Koerts surge este proyecto: su obra prima. Poderoso y homónimo álbum debut de gran eclecticismo en sus composiciones. Femeninas melodías vocales a cargo de Jerney Kaagman nos seducen dulcemente; fantásticos teclados nos sacuden en psicodélico frenesí; mientras que aguerridas guitarras combativas nos impulsan a la acción. Clara simpatía por el sonido garage-punk de fines de los años sesenta, es lo que manifiesta este trío de Portland-Oregon, iniciando así su discografía, de manera cruda y sorprendente. “In the..” es un trabajo de atractivo Low-fi Rock, matizado con algún cover desopilante como “Can’t help falling in love”. Insolencia y constante entrega en cada nota es el factor común. Puntos supremos de la playlist: PARCHMENT FARM y la maníaca versión del hit HEY JOE.

The Meteors: fue fundado en 1980. Con guitarra, contrabajo y batería, se lanzaron a experimentar un nuevo sonido antisocial que mezcla temáticas de ciencia ficción, terror y western. Reverend Horton Heat: El compositor estadounidense James Heath es el cantautor y guitarrista de la banda. Ellos mismos describen su sonido como un “punkabilly alimentado de country”.
The Cramps: Agrupación clave que supo conjugar el primitivo rockabilly y el garage de los’60s, basándose en un sonido muy característico, marcado por la guitarra fuzz de Poison Ivy y la inconfundible voz de Lux Interior.
Demented Are Go: Constituye un referente inaludible dentro del panorama del Psychobilly internacional, son una mezcla muy personal de Punkrock y Psycho que no olvida el sonido más primigenio. EyeKluv 61
The Quakes: Trío de Buffalo NY, formado en 1986. A finales de los 80´, se mudan a Londres y consiguen expandirse musicalmente en paralelo por Europa y EEUU.

Johny Cash: Uno de los máximos representantes de la música country, que creó su propio subgénero musical. Era conocido por su profunda voz, y por vestir ropa oscura. Muchas de sus canciones, tratan temas como la pena, la culpa y tribulaciones morales.
Screamin’ Jay Hawkins: Cantante afroamericano que obtuvo éxito a mediados de los años cincuenta. Conocido por sus circenses actuaciones y estética, en ocasiones macabra, grabó uno de los mayores éxitos del momento, “I put a spell on you” en 1957.
Link Wray & His Ray Men: Se destaca por un nuevo sonido de guitarra eléctrica, como lo demuestra el éxito de la canción instrumental “Rumble” en 1958.
Carl Perkins: Músico estadounidense pionero del rockabilly. Cultivó una mezcla de rhythm and blues y música country. En 1956, escribió la canción “Blue Suede Shoes”.
The Phantom: Artista años 50´ más conocido por su top single “Love Me”. Country en sus principios, capturó en esa canción un espíritu frenético congelado en el tiempo y retomado por excéntricos en futuro cercano. 62 EyeKluv

En la actualidad viene de presentaciones de su nuevo disco bajo el sello Ultra Pop presentado el 12/12/12 contra todos los pronósticos de fin del mundo, y con el acople de un show íntimo en el Ultra Bar. los colmillos
Los colmillos comenzaron en el 2007 y han logrado captar la atención con su sonido primal y aguerrido. Se trata de un dúo formado por Vanesa Rinon (bajo y voz) y Nacho Martinez (guitarra y percusión) que con paciencia y trabajo, se fueron haciendo su propio camino dentro del blues rock ácido. El primer registro llegaría en el 2009, un disco homónimo formado por un conglomerado poderoso y muy interesante de diez temas, entre los cuales se destacan “Queen Of The Knife” y el súper pegadizo “My Medicine”. Una vez que encontraron su sonido definitivo, lo trabajaron lo suficiente como para que las canciones comenzaran a salir de forma espontánea. Es así como
se registró “Blues Tóxico” (2011): grabado en Perú entre ayahuasca, chamanes y ritos. El dúo suena poderoso y con el clásico juego de lento/ rápido muestran una agilidad muy rica. Ambos logran una atmósfera visceral y potente, sus cambios de ritmo, de intensidad y los pasajes netamente instrumentales. No recomendable para blandengues ni para indie snob posers. Marc Steven Bell es más conocido como Marky Ramone, vuelve el sobreviviente ramonero, aquel lejendario baterista de los Ramones que sigue por el mundo tocando hits con su backing band local a puro punk rock. Vuelve a la Argentina junto a Michale Graves para presentarse los días viernes 14 y sábado 15 de Junio en el Teatro Vorterix. Dos shows, dos listas diferentes. Truman Streckfus Persons, más conocido como Truman Capote, fue un periodista y escritor estadounidense. Durante su niñez vivió en las granjas del sur de los Estados Unidos. En 1948, a los 23 años, publica su primera novela, Otras voces, otros ámbitos, una de las primeras en las que se plantea de forma abierta el tema de la homosexualidad. Otras novelas suyas serían: El arpa de hierba (1951) y Se oyen las musas (1956), además de la famosa Desayuno en Tiffany’s (1958), que también sería adaptada al cine por Blake Edwards, con Audrey Hepburn en el papel de Holly Golightly. En 1966 escribe A sangre fría que será su trabajo más celebrado. Capote es una película protagonizada por Philip Seymour Hoffman. Fue lanzada en septiembre del 2005, para coincidir con el cumpleaños número 81 de Truman Capote.

VULK OPTICS COLLECTION proposes for this fall-winter season as an antidote of simple lines, modern tones, good and demanding materials that keep on adding attitude to Vulk personality. MONITOR Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti came for the very first time in Argentina, made a show with his band and played wearing Vulk. New fans, Rockers and Rock Stars are filling streets with a Vulk attitude, monitors with own style, what’s coming next. Source: Jorge Luis Fernández | for LA NACION It is not usual that such an innovative musician visits our country, a key musician on modern rock and free from artistic menopause. These three conditions combined, behind the media silence, in December at Niceto Club. Ariel Pink (whose battle name is Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and his real name is Ariel Rosenberg) started by burning his own disastrous-sound CDs and brilliant creations that gained pop sub-world admiration during the last decade. From avant-garde Animal Collective to hipsters like MGMT and groups from chillwave scene clustered by Carpark Records, they all recognize they owe him. Showing his blonde-dyed hair, tight bermuda shorts, moccasin shoes, white socks and coleopteran antennas, Pink stepped on stage and started his show playing “Kinski Assassin”, the opening powerful and psychedelic track from Mature Themes, his new album, and kept on performing songs from his last two (and most promoted) records, which sound like a kind mime from classic Rumors by Fleetwood Mac. Singing and Dancing. Haunted Graffiti members include three performers playing bass, guitar, keyboards and drums, but Pink, apart from singing and dancing – not a minor data -, strictly
sticks to his modus operandi from his first performances, manipulating pre-recorded tracks, rhythm boxes and voice effects in a console that, ironically, still kept customs’ seals. By the middle of the show, the musician appealed to afterlife coupling, echoes and delays paralyzing dance. Pink is a particular showman, an aligned necromancer, who has no prejudice or means to cause scandals (feeding his transgression). His influences combine anything he has ever heard back in his Californian home (especially, his Todd Rundgren’s white soul and Prince work), processed by punk corrosion and Madonna’s glamour camp. In fact, during those moments of spell, he looked like the reincarnation of Leland Palmer, Twin Peaks psychotic murderer, playing to be a material girl. “Round And Round” subsequently sounded and a celebration atmosphere came back to Niceto. For someone who started his career in isolation and making home records (his muse has been and still is R. Stevie Moore, low-fidelity rock pioneer), Ariel Pink reached a fascinating performer status. During his one and a half hour show, he jumped like a school girl, shouted, whined and leaked his falsetto distinctive sign through all kinds of effects and pop songs presenting an irreverent and irregular rhythm. After oldies like “She’s My Girl”, “Beefbud” and heavenly “Among Dreams”, show ended twenty minutes past midnight. We have enjoyed a unique artist who really rejoices every second of the night. He is a person who doesn’t take himself seriously and, for that reason, able to assembly a mainly visual show complementing with vocal techniques that are really impressive in some moments. This was a beautiful evening with good music that, obviously, has met my expectations. PERMISSION TO FIRE is the seductive name for their new collection, inspired on the work by plastic artist Tracey Emin. Or should we say... inspired on Plastic Artist Tracey Emin. Matías Carbone (SUDESTE - AYNOTDEAD) After nine years and eighteen seasons leading Felix and, and during the last cycle period leading Lupe’s creative direction, Matías Carbone is developing an interesting personal project, Sudeste (South East, in English). However, his new road is set on the female universe horizon. When it comes to designers able to project themselves through their work, Matías is the perfect example for that. Fancy, charming, cool… His looks – and that relationship connecting product and designer going through a daily aesthetic pleasure by dressing – had a critical role to develop Felix’s image: his premises, business success, present and non-doubtful future. Carbone is currently responsible for A.Y.Notdead male line and divides his time in creating his company product and accurate Sudeste development. Agustina Dubié (Dubié) Many years should go by in order that a designer, brand and proposal rise up involving simplicity, austerity, and perfection as a distinctive feature for quality, identity and – why not – success. Owner of an impeccable personal style and a high responsibility level for design in its most complete sense, Agustina Dubié and her boyfriend, Javier Martinez Bo, founded Dubié. They created an accessory line including shoes, knapsacks, and colt belt pouches, as well as an even more perfect female line. Dubié balances excess of baroque craftsmanship, galloping sublimation and morphologic polyester esoteric nature for a new generation of designers. These two recently launched collections, having pure lines, excellent quality fabrics, and dreaming lunacy finishing, are placed on a summit where it is hard to understand if they are responding to an orphan audience demand so far or it is a new audience rising up (or changing) before this new stimuli of what we call daily elegance. Mariela Paz Izurieta (RIE) Belen Chavanne’s challenging look in front of Juampi Bonino’s camera lens. That picture made me find RIE. A dark woman, in a dense night, on a road… but that was wintertime and things change. Mariela Paz Izurieta emphasizes how critical and rewarding is to be able to develop a brand proposal every season, by managing product to be a synonym for clothing with a certain identity. She is highly zooming in on a very youth sportswear, making an intervention here and there; God is in the details. This is perhaps her major challenge: leading a relatively young brand getting stronger in a flooded market. Ailin Bisi (Ailin Bisi) She is the warrior girl of a new designer generation, former Runway Project, designer and stylist and, mostly responsible for IKV style coming-back. Bisi, Baroque, decorative and radical style lover, Opening Ceremony darling, and wearing a new tattoo, has a contagious enthusiasm as she is telling us her plans to keep on positioning her pieces in word places as far as possible, from Taiwan to Los Angeles. We have seen Bisi in IKV’s folk-disco cherokee wachitu look on Rolling Stone Argentina magazine cover, in the central role for 80’s neon sharp look-alike starlets. Ailin is a clear representative for this new generation of designers, schemers and leaders of their own fantasies, inspiring muses for themselves. LOOK EXCLUDED. Noel Romero. for those who have a remarkable section in the domestic fashion story. Romero, smart, thoughtful, and intellectually intense, owns a spirit and taste for imperfection, slightly decadent, subtlety threatening and challenging matters. Whatever she reads, hears, creates and projects always has a halo of intense fresh nature. Coolness. It is really interesting hearing her recognizing things may be out of her reach when she may have one of the most difficult skills to grow: the capacity to create season after season unique daily universes where to spread alignments to lead. A.Y.NotDead, Campo & Psicodelia, Tecno Natura, Flores del mal, Young Gods, The Unreals, Magic Mushrooms... Riddles? Spells? Curses? Formal initiations where we witness the amendment of a formal opinion, a style riddle, a curse against boredom… every season, over and over again. VULK AT KUSTOM ART The greatest Kustom culture event of Argentina.Vulk was present in the Kustom Art third edition with a Braga Gordon by Vulk, and presenting the NEW MODEL for this collection called “Rocker Bomber”. The motto for this event was to remember 50’s customization practices for cars and motorcycles so they can hit the road after such practices. The best models and artists related to pinstriping, kustomgraphics, photography, lowbrow art car and bike culture, just to mention a few, attended the event. DJ Tornillo played music and Primitivos made a live performance at full rock. VULK SKATE TEAM AT MUSEUM NIGHT/ MARQ/BOMB.BA Vulk was present at the Museum Night (La Noche de los Museos), an event organized by Buenos Aires City Government aiming at rediscovering City museums through multidiscipline proposals gathering artists from several areas of urban art and street culture. The meeting was held at MARQ – Architecture and Design Museum, located in center of Thais park at Del Libertador Av. and Callao st., City of Buenos Aires. We would like to thank BOMB. BA | urban invasions for inviting our friends and Skate Team who performed a demo on a mini ramp intervened by stencil experts Malatesta and Tester throughout the night. Sael was also present at the event and showed a big size work directly questioning the old museum building. The Peruvian poster artist Elliot Tupac presented an exhibition with his renowned silk-screen printings of “chicha” culture. More than one million people visited site that could enjoy at the same time the instrumental surf performance by Lefunders band and different invited DJs sets. DAY KLUV SKATECHIKAR We celebrated skatechikar 3rd anniversary at skateplaza. Vulk attended this event by giving awards to female winners at a full Skateboarding party!. Girls Assault: south american tournament and best trick amateur competition. 2012 Finals. The fourth and final date of the female skate circuit was held in Backside
Skatepark and Vulk was there! The South American Tournament was visited by the Poseiden foundation, from USA, which is another organization like Girls Assault showing skateboarding skills all around Latin America. They are together with highly qualified female skaters. In this case, we were able to meet Mimi Knoop, a female representative at X-Games in Vert and tough roller. Lorena Lima, from New Jersey, was also present. She is a great street skater and also an expert in tracks running during X-Games. Lorena Lima and Jessica Florencio from the Poseiden team, together with our national models Paula Videla (rider from Vulk Team), Paula Costales (rider from Vulk), Eugenia Ginepro, Valentina Etchegoyen and Coco Cianciarulo, started the activities for that day with a hard demo, deploying throughout the event an excellent level of expertise, style and high control. Girls coming from Brazil and Venezuela also participated. Besides the South American girls performing demos, Pamela Pequeñin (from Brazil, Brazilian Vulk Team member, extremely high level of expertise!!!), Pipa Souza and Euli Vieira (both from Brazil) were also present. Best trick amateur awards were first handed out. Many prizes, products and trophies for different categories were also given. Prizes and commemorative cards for 2012 ranking of Argentinean Female Skate Girls Assault Circuit were awarded with more products. The grand final prize for our advanced category girls was awarded to Eugenia Ginepro, who gained $600 and started the first money prize giving ceremony focused on our national female skaters. GIRLS ASSAULT CORDOBA-ARROYITO! 2nd date for national female skate circuit girls assault. Arroyito’s track was full of girls willing to share an afternoon with full female skateboarding! Lots of girls from many places all over Argentina such as Mar del Plata, Rosario, Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Catamarca, came to be part of the competition. Girls Assault had 3 categories (Rookies, Beginners and Advanced) and there were about 50 girls enrolled. Vulk was present to be there for Mecu and Paulita, and also to participate once more in this national circuit event! Our multiple-talented rider team member, Giani De Gennaro, is participating as host in a TV show: LA FÁBRICA, broadcasted daily by Fox Sports 3, from 7 pm to 8 pm. Giani is currently the host of the show along with the popular Chilean skater “Chico” Jano Dapremont, Flor Ventura, Desiree Mabbitt and Andres Eduardo Gomez. This new special show is focused on extreme sports and promises to be a good means that will show the best of street sports culture, adventure and current risks by reflecting a lifestyle their own hosts also share. There are a wide range of air ticket prices, especially for the time of the year we will be traveling. It’s December, New Year’s eve, the very peak season in Brazil due to its wanted beaches. Our destiny is very more rocker and tough than such earthly paradise spots: Sao Paulo. How to arrive: Once arrived, the best is to look for a friend; whenever I am on a trip, I always try to go with some local people who are the ones who will really show the site around. If you don’t know anybody, you can always talk to some Argentinean friends who will always provide you with interesting data. If no friends at all, you have other options available: during daytime, traffic from airport to city is a hell, so I do not suggest you take a cab since this will cost you a lot of money. There are MTL-like buses or the most essential option is bus + subway (one of the most modern subways worldwide); it is a really interesting choice. It costs around 7 reais and they take coins. If you arrive at night, the only choice is a cab. About 103 R. Some travel tips • Do not take USD dollars or Argentinean pesos. Use your credit card. You can pay ANYTHING with your credit card, even at POSTA park fairs. Exchange rate is extremely better, official rate specially. • Sao Paulo is a fascinating city but be careful, better safe than sorry. • Summertime is hot, but not much hotter Buenos Aires weather. So now you know what kind of clothes you should take. • Skate: If you can skate, do not miss the skate spots city offers.
Tour Manager My tour manager was Marcelo Calazans. He planned the roadmap that made us know the most VULK sites of the city. He made us feel Sao Paulo guys. Marcelo Calazans: fan skater, though he is a professional. Artist. Graphic Designer. Guitar player and music lover. Occasional DJ. Extreme sport show host and skate competition presenter. A very gifted man since birth. He was born in Curitiba, but he has been feeling a Sao Paula citizen for more than 18 years. Strong Corintians fan. “O skate e a arte são meus desafios. Minha obra e conceito é ‘arte na forma de ver, skatena forma de ser¨ His biography states something like ‘skateboarding and art are my challenges: art is the way I see things and skateboarding is my way of living.’ He has been skateboarding since 1986 and drawn since he was 2. Stores During the week, I have been going all over places where to find items we could not find back home. Considering the current exchange rate, it is pointless to buy things we may find back in Buenos Aires. Vinyl discs, CDs and Miscellaneous The mythical Du Rock gallery is in downtown. This place is a must, especially because it was part of documentary films like Botinada, Brazilian punk history (highly recommended!); however, there is no much to see that Buenos Aires Bond Street gallery should not offer. Nova Barao gallery is a few meters away from Du Rock. This is a much more minimum gallery and a site you cannot easily find if you don’t know where you are going. There are many music stores and even rocker hairdresser’s shops where the Morrisey-style hair cut is ordered like hot cakes. Vulk Brazil SKATE Team Just like I said before, Sao Paulo is a city that is worth to go on a skateboard. There are many classic points (see roadmap). We met with VULK Team at Plaça Roosevelt, a mythical meeting point for Brazilian skaters. Davison Fortunato and (the other person’s name) have told us a little bit what was going on VULK in Brazil, how brand was growing and starting to be strong. By the way, we took them a couple of pictures. Davison has been skating since he was 7 and also makes films and photo-shooting related to skateboarding. He performs illustrations for boards and shares a lot of time with his younger brother, Gabriel Fortunato. Lately, these two were visiting around Florida, USA, and their favorite glasses model is Black Hands. It is not possible to define in a few words all Sao Paulo has to offer, but it’s worthy to go for a ride. It is a violent city, though a friendly, great and cosmopolitan place and, above all, a city where VULK perfectly fits in. Saudades! LOVE FOR DISCS MAN OR ASTROMAN?: “Project Infinity” (1995) Instro-Freaks from Man or Astroman? are the ones who got a time machine and came from
future to our days. PI is their second LP release work, a 90% instrumental record. Clearly targeting to surf sounds, they add highly sci-fi effects and Class-B horror movie degrees in their music arrangements. Self-described as aliens, they elegantly mix radiant Mosrite sound with techno-vintage audio getting a result as powerful as disturbing! EARTH & FIRE: “Earth & Fire” (1970) This project arises from Dutch Koerts brothers’ minds: their first work. This powerful and homonymous first record offers a highly eclectic sound contained in their musical pieces. Female vocalist melodies in charge of Jerney Kaagman are sweetly seductive; terrific keyboards shake our bodies in a psychedelic delirium, while courageous warrior guitars drive us into action. By means of riffs and heavy speed, this album transcends and makes way for a new and freed generation. DEAD KENNEDYS: “Plastic Surgery Disasters / In God We Trust, Inc.” (1981-1982) It’s hard to remember a hardcore-punk band from those years being faster and funnier than lunatic Jello Biafra and his weirdo-freaks’ band. “Plastic...” is their second vinyl album including “In God...”, both edited the year before by their own company Alternative Tentacles. This work delivers restless and moving atmospheres, a rebel yell in despair pushing us to open our eyes and do something for ourselves. No government will. Riot! DEAD MOON: “In the Graveyard” (1988) This Portland-Oregon trio shows a clear affection for garage-punk sound from late ‘80s thus starting their discography harshly and surprisingly. “In the...” is an attractive Low-Fi Rock work blended by some hilarious covers like “Can’t help falling in love”. ENGLISH Reverend Horton Heat: The American composer James Heath is band’s singer and song-writer. They describe their own sound as a “country-fed punkabilly.” The Quakes: A trio from Buffalo, NY, created in 1986. By late 80’s, they moved to London and managed to expand on a musical basis at the same time in Europe and USA. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins: Afro-American singer who was successful by mid 50’s. He was known by his circus performances and aesthetics, sometimes macabre, and recorded one of the greatest hits of those days, “I put a spell on you” in 1957. Carl Perkins: Rockabilly pioneer American musician. He performed a country music and rhythm & blues mix. In 1956, he wrote the song “Blue Suede Shoes”. Johnny Cash: One of the greatest country music performers who created his own music sub-genre. He was known by his deep voice and dark clothing wear. Many of his songs are about topics like sorrow, guilt and moral matters. Link Wray & His Ray Men: They stood out due to a new electric guitar sound, as shown in their instrumental hit single song “Rumble” in 1958. The Phantom: A 1950’s artist known by his top hit single “Love Me”. Country music player at first, he managed to catch a wild spirit frozen in time and taken back by eccentric groups in a near future. NEW LOCAL SOUNDS FRANCISCO BOCHATON Group: Francisco Bochaton (guitar and lead vocalist), Quique Ilid (drums), Fernando Kabusacki (guitar), Matias Mango (keyboards), Nelson Collingood (bass) and Marianela Pelzmajer (guitar). They are currently presenting their new album under the company Ultra Pop. This record was launched on 12/12/12, against any and all estimations related to the end of the world and joining an intimate show at the Ultra Bar. Next tour: Mendoza in February, and, in April, official presentation in Buenos Aires. LOS COLMILLOS “Los colmillos” started in 2007 and, by whistling quietly, managed to catch the attention with their primitive and brave sound. This is a duet whose members are Vanesa Rinon (lead vocalist and bass) and Nacho Martines (guitar and percussion). With patience and hard work, Vanesa and Nacho have made their own way in the acid rock blues world as the “anti-band”. Their first record would see the light in 2009, a homonymous album containing a very interesting and powerful mix of ten songs including the remarkable “Queen Of The Knife” and the super-sticky single “My Medicine”. In February of this same year, they indulged themselves and digitally uploaded “Rumble (link wray)”, a completely instrumental and bluesvirtuoso song. Once they have found their final sound, they worked hard enough so that their songs started to flow spontaneously. This is the way “Blues Tóxico” (2011) was recorded: in Peru, among ayahuasca, shamans and rites. This duet sounds powerful and has the classic soft/quick game showing a very precious speed. DRAGONAUTA (ARG)- JUNE, FRIDAY 07 (NICETO CLUB) Dragonauta is the local good Doom Metel. Their music finds its roots in late 60’s and early ‘70s heavier bands (first in Black Sabbath, Necromandus, Blue Cheer, Pappo), and also in bands appearing during 80’s and 90’s who kept loyalty to super-valve old heavy rock school. Because of “Cabramacabra”, Dragonauta (they say) currently is the fastest Doom band of the world. And they are coming back to Niceto with their engine on. MARKY RAMONE (US) - JUNE 14 & 15 (VORTERIX) Marc Steven Bell is best know as Marky Ramone. And this Ramones survival is coming back. That legendary bass player from The Ramones is still on the road and playing his hits worldwide with his backing local band full of punk rock. Marky will be back in Argentina along with Michael Graves to perform two shows in June (Friday 14th and Saturday 15th), at Teatro Vorterix. Two shows, two different song lists. The Ramones separated in 1996 and their last world tour concert was in Argentina: whoever has had the chance to go will remember the good old years! RIP .
