General Information From March 16th to 19th of 2020, SPE Journey will take you to the Land of Fires, to the one of the oldest oil-producing countries in the world – Azerbaijan! Society of Petroleum Engineers Baku Higher Oil School Student Chapter in collaboration with Azerbaijan State Oil Industrial University Student Chapter organizes the first SPE CASPIAN REGIONAL STUDENT CONGRESS 2020! The Congressis a remarkable opportunity for the students to gain an invaluable technical experience as well as to socialize, network and build new connections with the industry professionals and students from all over the Caspian Region.

What is CSRC? The Caspian Student Regional Congress is a multipurpose event designed to enhance your technical & soft skills. You will be given a great chance to put your knowledge into practice through the series of different activities, offer non-standard, but effective solutions to the problems, learn and network. Moreover, the time of the event falls on one of the most wonderful time periods in our country – Novruz Holidays. Novruz holiday is one of the most important and highly-cherished holidays of the Azerbaijani people. It is a symbol of winter's end and the advent of spring, an affirmation of life in harmony with nature, indication of equality and fraternity and renewal of nature. Novruz is an old holiday which reflects the culture, national and spiritual values of our people. Therefore, it is a brilliant opportunity for you to get acquainted with profoundly rich Azerbaijani culture, to explore the oriental traditions and to have a fun!

About us SPE BHOS SPE Baku Higher Oil School Student Chapter was officially founded in Baku, Azerbaijan in the year of 2014. From this day on, SPE BHOS has been an active, dynamic and exciting student-led, not-for-profit, non-political organization.

Founded in 2014 Awarded twice the Section Excellence Award which is the second highest honor a section can get.

SPE ASOIU SPE Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University Student Chapter was officially founded in Baku, Azerbaijan in the year of 2009. SPE ASOIU was the first SPE Student Chapter in the Caspian Region.

Congress Theme The program of the Congress includes multiple technical, soft-skills and panel sessions, field trips to various companies, interactive team projects, competitions and entertaining cultural programs. The winners of the team projects and competitions will be awarded with valuable prizes! The agenda of the CRSC is given below and you can get all necessary details and read about the events on the third page.

Our Mission Knowledge - We promote scientific and technical activities to enhance and expand our knowledge whilst training to become professionals of the future! Development – We build SPE CRSC as a tool for collection, dissemination and exchange of technical knowledge among the society members both locally and internationally, develop technical programs and activities that provide opportunity for the Community to play its important role in assisting Azerbaijan’s Petroleum Industry in fulfilling its capability needs. Networking – As the future engineers, we aim to build and maintain a good relationship among our colleagues in Caspian Region.

What do you get from participating in the CRSC? Development of technical knowledge as well as interpersonal skills; Acquaintance and communication with experts of the region; Hospitality of Azerbaijani students along with Novruz delicates.

How will this go? The Congress is designed for 5 days (March 15-19) in which events at two universities await you. Our program is aimed at both technical development as well as building strong communication among students of Caspian region with the purpose of maintaining close relations and further collaborations.

We would be happy to see you at our event and spend time to learn and develop together!

Panel Session - motivates, inspires and educates. You will get updated about the current industry trends including, but not limited to: -information about the future of energy industry, -skills and abilities, you will be needing to get ahead and become a strong competitor in the job market contribution of various tools in shaping of your future.

Technical Sessions - highly – interactive series of lectures focusing on specific topics designed to deepen your technical background. It is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the last technological advances in the petroleum industry through the material delivered by industry professionals who will be sharing their expertise. Soft-Skill Sessions - it's no longer adequate to become solely an expert in your own field of profession. You will delve into the science of interpersonal communication with our soft skill sessions on Leadership and Emotional Intelligence.

Competitions - build a suitable environment through which one can develop his/her competitive skills and learn while sticking to reaching the top of the competition. Team projects - an important part of the path in becoming a good leader/professional is being a real team player. With the help of this event you will develop your teamwork and leadership skills as well as build a tighter network with people all around the globe.

Field Trip - what might be a better opportunity for learning than backing up your theoretical knowledge with the hands-on experience?! This activity will surely be a leap ahead. Cultural program - It's fun, it's interesting, it's beneficial. Learn about the culture of Azerbaijan, its history, its values, and of course, have a taste of it's deep-in-history and rich food culture.

About the Host City Being located on Absheron Peninsula and washed by the waters of Caspian Sea, Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is thought to be a meeting point of East and West. The old city with engrossing history encrypted to the fortress walls of Icheri Sheher (Inner City), giant fortifications remaining from the ancient times, alleys and labyrinth old streets takes you to the prehistoric times. Thrilling legends of the Maiden Tower, entangled stories hidden in the rooms of ancient rulers in the Palace of Shirvanshahs will amaze you no more than glorious Flame Towers, the Heydar Aliyev Centre, considered as the modern architectural heart of Baku. To the list of contemporary complexes to be visited can be added Crystal Hall, multifaceted sports & leisure center, where Eurovision Song Contest was held. By night falls, you can be a witness of great magic - bright lights and cheerful illuminations spread all over the city: Boulevard make you almost sense the bustling life of ever lively Baku. But there is a tricky trap you should be aware of, as it can lure you away from your adventurous tour – national cuisine that encompasses numerous dishes based on the recipes of our ancestors. Here you can try delicious shekherbura, pakhlava, qogal, badambura - the traditional pastry served at Novruz holiday which is the celebration of “New Year” with coming of spring, twitter of birds, blooming of flowers.

Code of Conduct Session language The working language at CSRF'20 is English. Leaving the Official Program Please note that all participants are expected to participate in all the official session elements listed in this Program. Due to the fact that legal and insurance obligations are entailed for the Organizing Team, every participant will be under care of the Organizing Team. Alcohol and Drug Policy No alcoholic beverages will be permitted at the session to participants due to restrictions imposed by the policies of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. The Organizing Team of the session reserves the right to confiscate alcoholic drinks on the ground of high alcohol content, under-age drinking or overindulgence. Furthermore, SPE operates with the principle of a total zero tolerance in terms of illegal drugs.
