The Faculty of Religion and Theology at VU Amsterdam is the academic knowledge centre for religion and the biggest experimental theological laboratory in Europe. We are there for those who want to know what motivates people.
Why study at this faculty?
When you choose for the Faculty of Religion and Theology, you enter the rich and fascinating world of religion and faith. VU Amsterdam is known as a safe space where different religions coexist, side by side.
Are you interested in Christian theology or would you like to take theology training with the Restored Reformed Church, Baptists or Mennonite Church? Would you like to study Islamic theology? Or immerse yourself in Buddhism and spirituality? Then our broad, internationally oriented Bachelor’s is the programme for you!
In our Bachelor's Theology and Religious Studies, you investigate religious and social themes and gain a solid foundation in the principles of religions and theology. This enables you to contribute to important social debates.
Our Bachelor's programme gives you a wide-ranging perspective on world events and trains you to listen without judgement. With your broad, international Bachelor’s degree, you could work as a consultant, journalist or pioneer in a religious community. Alternately, you can opt for one of our Master’s programmes and specialise in Spiritual Care (Islamic, Buddhist, or ecumenical), Peace, Trauma and Religion or Building Interreligious Relations and Exploring a Discipline. Other options include the two-year teachertraining programme and the two-year Research Master’s programme.
