Bank SNB Scholar Athlete of the Month Kayleigh Worden - Chickasha High School
Senior Kayleigh Worden is a cheerleader at Chickasha high school. Worden is a leader on the cheer squad, and many of the younger girls look up to her. A leader by example, Worden supports all Chickasha athletics and gives it her all each time she cheers on a team. In the classroom, that enthusiasm and hard-working mentality translate well. Worden’s GPA is currently a 4.12, and she has taken multiple challenging courses. In the past, she has taken AP U.S. History and AP Language. Worden has also taken several honors courses at Chickasha, along with her AP classes. This upcoming year, she will continue to take AP courses, but she will take the challenge one step further; she plans on doing concurrent enrollment for college classes. Outside of cheer and school, Worden is actively involved in many activities. She is a member of the student council and key club, and she has a held a class office in the student government since her freshman year. In the little free time she does have, she like to take part in church activities and spend as much time with her friends and family as she can. After high school, Worden plans on attending college and studying nursing, but she is undecided on which college to attend at this point. For all of her hard work, and her dedication to cheerleading, school and the Chickasha community, Kayleigh Worden is the Chickasha Academic Athlete of the Month.

Quick Hits: The Highlanders won the first state championship in school history in 2014. Mac had come up short in six previous appearances in the state title game. MacArthur took back the Lawton city championship from Lawton High. The Highlanders have won two of the last four city titles. Last 5 Years: 2014 - 13-1 2013 - 10-3 2012 - 8-3 2011 – 13-1 2010 – 10-3

OFFENSE 2014 was good year to be a Highlander. They ran the gauntlet that is Class 5A and finished on top as state champions. In fact, they were five points away from finishing with an undefeated record. A 27-22 road loss to Ardmore in the regular season was their only blemish on an otherwise unscathed record. 2015 will be a different story for coach Brett Manning’s guys as only one starter returns on offense from last year’s championship team. However, that does not deter Manning’s hopes. “We lost a lot of people from our state championship team last year but I feel good about the kids who are stepping in,” Manning said. “We need experience but I expect us to contend for the district championship and compete for another state title.” VYPE Top 100 selectee TJ Fiailoa (6-5, 330, Sr.) returns and will be their most impactful player on offense. He’s one of the best players in the state, and some of the younger guys will rely on his leadership abilities. He can block in the run game equally as well as he can in the passing game. Teddrick Thomas (5-8, 160, Jr.) is a gifted athlete who has tremendous speed. His ability to make guys miss in the open field will help spread the field and open things up. Anthony Love-Kemper (6-4, 180, Jr.) takes over as the signal caller for

the Highlanders. He’s a tall kid who sees the field well, and he has a strong arm to go with it. Jarvier Christon (5-10, 155, Sr.) is a solid pass catcher who will be relied on in the short passing game. He can extend drives with his pass catching ability. Marcus Taylor (6-3, 185, Sr.) is a big, physical receiver who can go get the ball in the air. He will be expected to make some big plays this season.
DEFENSE Manning runs the 3-4 defensive scheme, which focuses on an aggressive front with a lot of man coverage on the back end. With only two starters coming back from last season, this defense will have its work cut out for it. Walter Neil (5-10, 175, Sr.) is an aggressive safety who can both tackle and cover. He will be heavily relied on to be the last line of defense for the Highlanders. Bryan Burns (6-0, 225, Sr.) will line up at linebacker again this season. He is a vocal leader who is one of the better tacklers on the roster. BJ Davis (6-1, 190, Jr.) joins Burns in the linebacker core. He made an impact as a sophomore, but his role will be expanded as he moves into the starting lineup. Jarvis Hunter (6-0, 230, Sr.) is a relentless force from the edge position. He will constantly be rushing opposing quarterbacks. Rylan Webb (6-1, 175, So.) is young, but has already proven he has what it takes to make an impact at the safety position.

Quick Hits: The Eagles last won a city championship in 2006.
Lawton Ike has dropped eight straight to Midwest City. The two teams have met for nine consecutive seasons, the longest current stretch for any team on the slate other than rival Lawton Public Schools.
Dating back to 1996, the Eagles have a record of 6-4 against opponents from out of state. Fayetteville, Arkansas and Canyon, Texas return to the schedule this fall. Ike split with those two schools in 2014. Last 5 Years: 2014 - 4-6 2013 - 4-6 2012 - 2-8 2011 – 4-7 2010 – 9-3

OFFENSE The Eisenhower Eagles will try to build off of the 2014 season that saw them go 4-6. They will see their fair share of challenges, but they have a solid nucleus of talent returning. VYPE Top 100 selectee Rico Bussey (6-1,185, Sr.) is the best player returning for the Eagles. Bussey is a two-way player, but wide receiver is his main position. He was one of the best in the state at that position in 2014. He caught 66 balls for 1,233 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 1,233 yards put him in the top 10 in the state for receiving yards. The Eagles have an experienced group of offensive lineman returning, which will be a big factor for the success of coach Danny Edelman’s balanced spread offense. All-District lineman Gabe Moana (6-1, 295, Sr.) is the anchor of that group. He, like Bussey, plays defense, as well as offense. Moana plays center, and barks out the calls. To the left of him is Wilson Nelson VYPEOK.COM

Ricco Bussey
(6-3, 260, Jr.). Nelson is a big, physical guard who specializes in run blocking. Thomas Ellis (6-3, 260, Jr.) lines up next Wilson at left tackle. Ellis is tasked with protecting the quarterback’s blindside, often from the defense’s best rusher. Mookie Douglas (6-0, 180, Jr.) is a powerful fullback who can both carry the ball or block.
DEFENSE The Eagles will have some questions that need to be answered and some spots that need to be filled on defense. With only three starters returning, coach Edelman knows he has a young group, but the leaders he has returning will make a large impact on his inexperienced players. All-District nose guard Juwan Vint (6-0, 240, Sr.) will constantly make his presence felt throughout 2015. He was a force last season on ® the defensive line, and the AUTO • HOME • LIFE younger lineman will look up to him. Anthony Martin (6-2, 190, Jr.) plays linebacker for the Eagles, and he will be asked to step up in 2015. The Eagles will need solid tackling this season, and they will look to Martin for that. Josh Brewer (6-0, 160, Jr.) joins Douglas and Bussey in the secondary. Douglas and Bussey occupy the safety spots, where as Brewer plays cornerback. Brewer can lock down taller receivers at the line of scrimmage, and he has good ball skills down the field. Douglas and Bussey both have a good blend of tackling and coverage skills. They are physical safeties who do not get beat down field often. Both can tackle well in the open

Lawton Christian: Building for the Future
Two cross country athletes recently helped the school install a brand new computer lab. classes in networking, and how to take a computer apart and then rebuild it among other things. That instructor, Jonathan Gleaves quickly turned to Bryant and Wallace for help and the two student-athletes quickly stepped up.
Sophomore runners Shane Bryant and John Todd Wallace work hard in the fall to improve their splits and finishing times. This summer though the duo was working hard on a completely different project: helping their school add a second computer lab. The project all started when the school hired a new IT director/computer teacher who had a vision to expand the school’s computer program and build a second lab where students could take
For Wallace the chance to help his school plus work in something that interested him was a perfect combination.
“I built my own computer awhile back to experiment and learn new things so when Mr. Gleaves offered me the chance to help I jumped at it. I grew up with computers and will always be interested in new technology, finding out how they work and operate so this project was great for me,” Wallace said. Bryant echoed those sentiments nearly to a tee. “I’m really into computers and when
Mr. Gleaves came to John Todd and I about the project I was immediately on board,” Bryant added.
The project took nearly a week to complete with both students working from 9 am to 5 pm. The main job that Bryant and Wallace took on was the wiring. The duo ran cables through the ceiling and walls and helped make sure all the computers were hooked up to the internet with ethernet cables. The two also helped move desks, computers and any other items involved in getting the lab ready for the 2015-2016 school year. “I would definitely love to help with other projects. Lawton Christian is a small school and anything I can do to help with making things better or improving our school I would love to do,” Wallace said. With that type of attitude it is easy to see that both Wallace and Bryant are all-in for their school and are destined for big things.

Marcheenan Hair OFFENSE A year ago Lawton came into the season as one of the favorites to claim the innagural Class 6A-II gold ball. The Wolverines wouldn’t disappoint either, making a run to the title game before being upended by Bixby. The Wolverines lost a good amount of players off of last year’s team to graduation and 12 of those players are now playing college football at some level. With that fact in mind most people would expect the Wolverines to possibly take a dip in the standings but head

DEFENSE Last season the Wolverines were loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball and allowed 21 points or less four different times while they gave up an average of 20.1 points per game. Former Wolverines head coach Clarence Madden, long time Lawton assistant and top Okie pig sandwich maker, Larry Derrick and quarterback Aso Pogi are all assistants for John Herbert. The Bulldogs performed well on the road in 2014 and could see a big increase in results as the schedule flips. CACHE BULLDOGS
OFFENSE A balanced attacking offense is what head coach John Herbert expects from his offense this season. Quarterback Terrance Young (6-3, 195, Sr.) passed for more than 1,400 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. His accuracy has Trystan improved and his continues to show his ability to lead. Running back Trystan Slinker (6-0, 192, Sr.) rushed for 700 yards and eight touchdowns in 2014. Slinker will have a solid offensive line to run behind as Jalen Yackeyonny (6-4, 289, Sr.) and Nick Gunnarshja (6-1, 250, Jr.) return to the offensive line. “We have some things to prove and our kids have been working hard to do that. Our offense will be a 50/50 run, pass offense,” said coach Herbert. In the passing game look for Kaieem Caesar (6-4, 235, Jr.) to make major contributions to the overall success of the offense. Caesar accounted for 330 yards and two touchdowns last year. His size and leaping ability will cause problems for smaller defensive backs attempting to cover him.
OFFENSE Size, speed and highlight reel skills create a year of high expectations for success at Walters where eight starters return to the offensive unit. The Blue Devils offensive line remains intact with a trio of seniors including Konner Hale (6-0, 190, Sr.), Kaleb Gray (5-10,200, Sr.) and Bouchee Fehrt (5-11, 215, Sr.) as well as Tyler Anderson (6-3, 230, Jr.) and Hunter Robey (6-1, 225, Jr.) to control the line of scrimmage. Walters’ ground attack will include the skills of Kyle Graham (5-11, 180, Jr.) who scored 14 touchdowns while gaining 1,018 yards, joining the energy of C.J. Sims (5-6, 140, Jr.) and Gus Wrape (5-8, 150, So.). Coby Jones (6-2, 170, Sr.) will guide the spread attack and enjoy the size and soft hands of wide receiver Trevor Hartman (6-3, 185, Sr.), who secured 18 receptions last year, joining tight end Cade Baumann (6-4, 210, Sr.). “With our fast and physical guys up front making running

DEFENSE Ten starters return to the Bulldog defense this season as the team looks to run a four man front and use zone blitzing to keep opposing offenses off balance. Slinker will start at linebacker where he had 60 tackles, 11 sacks and one interception. Eighteen of his tackles were for a loss. Maurice Dowell (5-11, 160, Jr.) will roam Slinker the secondary with senior Nate Reeves (5-10, 170, Sr.). Dowell had five passes defended, 50 tackles and two picks, while Reeves had 18 tackles and an interception to his credit. Jake Swanson (5-11, 180, Sr.) is another linebacker the Bulldogs are excited to see back on the field. Swanson notched 52 tackles in 2014. Up front at defensive end Charles Gladney (6-2, 250, Sr.) will set the edge and kick everything back inside to the linebackers. He had 20 tackles a year ago, five for a loss. The coaching staff consists of Clarence Madden, Ryan Whiteley, Aso Pogi, Larry Derrick, Les Abbott, Roland Morales, Allen McCall, Jimbo Smith, Danny Lee and H. Tate.

DEFENSE The Blue Devils welcome the aggressive nature of seven returning starters to the 3-3-5 defense including all three linebackers consisting of Hale, who made 84 tackles last season along with Cade Bauman, whose 72 stops included four sacks plus a safety and interception joining Graham. Controlling the action up front will be defensive end Anderson, who created eight sacks while making 61 tackles joining Gray and the anchor at nose guard, J.P. Medina (6-0, 250, Jr.). Described by Griffin as a lock down cornerback, Hartman, who picked off six interceptions will reunite with Wrape, Jones and Sims in the secondary. “We’re coming off our first playoff season in a while at Walters and after getting a taste of success, everyone wearing blue is hungry for more,” said Hartman.

ELGIN OWLS
OFFENSE A year ago the Elgin Owls finished 2-8 and while that record wasn’t what they had hoped for there is reason to be Coach: hopeful this year. One of those reasons JASON CUNNINGHAM is that the Owls won two of their last Enrollment: four games, including picking up a win 574 over Class 4A quarterfinalist Weatherford. The other reason to be hopeful this Schedule: season is that the Owls return seven Sept. 4 – at Hennessey Sept. 11 – at Marlow offensive starters and have strong depth Photo by Michael Mayberry Sept. 18 – vs. Tuttle at nearly every position according to Sept. 25 – vs. Woodward head coach Jason Cunningham. The Lady Bulldogs lack experience, but make up for it with hustle. Coach Gary Freeman and the Lady Bulldogs will have their work cut out for them this season. With only two starters returning to the starting lineup, experience is thin for the Lady Bulldogs. However, coach Freeman put his team through a rigorous offseason and he has them prepared to get better with each game. “We will be very inexperienced,” Freeman said. “We are anticipating a slow start but hope to be better toward the end of the season.” Throughout the offseason, Freeman had his team focus on getting better in all phases of the game. Often times, teams
might focus on one area, but Freeman wanted his team to improve in all areas, from hitting to defense to base running. That hard work will continue to pay off as the season goes along. The Lady Bulldogs opened the season on Aug. 11 with a doubleheader against Noble. The Lady Bulldogs came up short in both games, and started the season with a 0-2 record. Expect that trend to change as the season goes along and Freeman’s team gains experience. Freeman mentioned multiple players that he believed would make a major impact for his team this season. With only three seniors who have little
experience, Cali Tovar, Vanessa Molina and Kelsee Baker will be expected to step up. Alongside them, Haley Newman, Anna Simmons and Sydney Simmons will also be asked to step up and impact each game. Do not expect the Lady Bulldogs to use their inexperience as an excuse this season. Freeman’s team will continue to fight and scratch each time they take the field. As the season gets into full swing, expect Altus to improve.

Quick Hits: The Bulldogs won eight games for the first time since winning nine in 2001. Altus defeated Ardmore, Duncan and Chickasha in 2014. The last time the Bulldogs beat all three of those teams in the same year was 1998.
The Bulldogs ended a two game losing streak to rival Vernon, TX with a 20-13 win in the season opener. Last 5 Years: 2014 - 8-3 2013 - 3-7 2012 - 3-7 2011 – 3-7 2010 – 5-5
OFFENSE The Altus Bulldogs return seven starters to coach Jeremy Reed’s flexbone offense, which saw success in its first year. Last season was the first winning season and playoff berth since 2008 for the Bulldogs. Reed has high hopes for his offense during the second year of its installment. “After one year in the flexbone, the familiarity will be much better,” Reed said. “Jayden Benway is a great quarterback running the triple option who throws well. We return three starters to the offensive line, and we have great speed in the skill positions.” Jayden Benway (6-0, 175, Sr.) returns as the signal caller after rushing for 542 yards and nine touchdowns, while he threw for 482 yards and six touchdowns. He is a versatile weapon who should see his numbers expand in his second year running the system. Tito Jones (5-11, 165, Jr.) lines up in the slot position and can do it on the

Next to him in the opposite slot position is Shaquan French (5-9, 160, Jr.). As a sophomore, French rushed for 313 yards and two touchdowns. The running back position is stout for the Bulldogs. Deante Harris (5-11, 170, Sr.) returns to his spot in the backfield after rushing for 312 yards and four touchdowns in 2014.

DEFENSE While the offense saw success last year, and should see growing success this season, Reed said his defense will be the strength of the team.“All of our leading tacklers return from last season,” Reed said. “Our defense plays with a lot of heart and pursues the ball with relentless effort. Benway is a two-way player who led Class 5A with seven interceptions last season. Mikey Abuan (5-9, 165, Sr.) joins Benway in the secondary after a successful 2014 campaign. He made 82 tackles and snagged one interception. Shannon Ybarra (6-0, 190, Sr.) is a versatile player who can lineup at any of the linebacker positions. His ability to make sacrifices that benefit the team is key for the Bulldogs’ success. In 2014, Ybarra recorded 67 tackles and one interception. “We’re excited to see where we can go during year two in the program,” Reed said. “We have a great mix of senior leadership and youth.”

Bulldogs Buzz There is swelling noise coming from the Southwest corner of the state, a buzz if you will. It’s the noise of wheels against the surface as they roll down a beaten path towards their destination. It’s the sound of the Altus Bulldogs’ bandwagon. There are a few seats left and they are filling up fast.
On the heels of their breakout 2014 campaign with a record of 8-3 under the new and much improved direction of head coach Jeremy Reed, the Bulldogs enter the 2015 season hungry for more success. Starving might be a more accurate term for it.
In the 10 years at Altus before coach Reed came to town, the Bulldogs managed only two winning seasons. A pair of 6-5 seasons, the last one being in 2008, were the bright spots in the program’s recent history.
A change was necessary. A complete paradigm shift is more like it. When a team is struggling to find success, it’s easy to blame a coach, rid

him of the program and hire someone new. It’s much more difficult to take a step back and get a good long look inwardly and notice the root of the problem.
The problem was attitude. Altus had a bad attitude. Those days are gone. Coach Reed brought much more than a new offense and new coaches with new terminologies. He brought a new life into a community. It’s palpable. The conversations have changed from wanting to know why is this our reality to now wanting to know if this is real. The pace of the whole town has picked up almost as quickly as the misdirections of the flexbone system the Bulldogs now employ.
Shaquan French
Quarterback, Jayden Benway, took to the flexbone system in his first year with it like a kid who had worked on it in his front yard since his grade school days just hoping it would come to town some day. He ran it like he was a coach’s son. Now, for his 2nd year in the system, he has an added luxury in the back-
field. His best friend moved back to town from Florida for their senior years. Taven Birdow, Altus’ record holder for yards in a season (1,796) as a sophomore, spent his junior season in the backfield at IMG Academy helping them finish ranked 17th in the nation. The 2015 Bulldogs have a group of seniors used to winning. They were undefeated as freshmen. They are skilled and prepared for the season.
They have a plan, a purpose and an intent to win. The flexbone is real and very hard to defend since it is almost impossible for an opponent’s scout team to simulate it in practice.
The flexbone is exciting and will give opponents fits for sure, but it’s also the Bulldog defense led by Coach Todd Vargas that you need to look out for. The 2015 season holds a lot of promise and offers the Bulldogs a chance to build on last year’s esrly success. Playing football is fun, and the hitting, blocking, passing, catching, and running seem easy when you realize that changing attitudes was the hard part.
Altus Mom of the Month Lynna Wilmes - Altus Mom
Lynna Wilmes has 16-year-old twin daughters who began cheering in the seventh grade. Kinsey Wilmes is now a junior at Altus and is a member of the Altus cheerleading team. Kinsey’s twin sister, Darbie, is an athletic trainer at Altus. Lynna has been involved in multiple ways since her girls have attended Altus. From middle school fundraiser programs and dances, to T-shirt sales, Pep Squeakers and flag sales at Altus
high school, she does it all. Lynna said she has never missed a game or any event the girls have ever been in involved in. During competition week, the Wilmes family has nightly events and dinners for the cheerleaders, which has always been fun to participate in, according to Lynna.
Kinsey said her mom is her biggest supporter and she helps with any event she can. She not only supports Kinsey and Darbie, but she supports all of Altus athletics. Kinsey had strong support for her mother.
“I think my mom should be Mom of the Month because she is a huge help with my cheering and for my class,” Kinsey said. “She goes to all of my
games and supports our team.”
On top of the long list of things she does, Lynna has organized water donations for games and practices, and she has driven the team to competitions and camps. Her dedication to not only her daughters but also all of Altus athletics is top notch. For her support of Altus athletics and her dedication to her daughters’ athletic careers, Lynna Wilmes is deserving of the Mom of the Month title.

OFFENSE After struggling to fly from the nest a year ago, the Eagles have expectations to soar high in 2015 as Trevor Powers takes the reins as head coach of an offensive unit that returns all eleven starters. Leading the cause of optimism is Josh Silk (511, 170, Sr.), who totaled 1,290 yards rushing and scored 13 touchdowns last season. Adding to the running game success in the Eagles’ Wing-T alignment will be Baylor Cotts (6-1, 170, Sr.) along with Billy York (6-0, 175, Jr.). Sayre’s confidence in their ability to run the football exists due to the return of the entire offensive line that will again be anchored by Austin Glasco (6-7, 330, Sr.), Jacob Mooney (5-10, 200, Jr.) and Christian White (5-8, 165, Jr.). DEFENSE Like the offense, Sayre welcomes all 11 starters back to the defensive unit that will gain the benefit of experience along with an offseason

to develop added strength and knowledge of responsibilities in the 4-4 formation. Linebacker Wyatt Ramsey (6-1, 185, Sr.), whose 59 tackles included nine stops for loss, and defensive lineman Zack Dusek, who charted 44 tackles, make it difficult for opponents to run the football while Derek Parker (5-2, 115, Sr.) and Tyler May (5-8, 145, Jr.) cover plenty of space in a hurry in the secondary. Also making an impact will be linebacker York, who recorded 51 tackles including 11 for loss with five sacks last season. Powers points out that dynamite comes in small packages when evaluating the nose for the football skills of Gus Gifford in a variety of positions. “Last year, there were no seniors on the team,” said Powers. “Now with a year of playing time experience, the kids are doing everything right to not just compete but get the W on Friday nights.” Sept. 4 – at Cordell Sept. 11 – vs. Hinton Sept. 18 – vs. Mangum Sept. 25 – at Texhoma Oct. 2 – vs. Hooker Oct. 9 – at Thomas Oct. 15 – vs. Fairview Oct. 23 – vs. Mooreland Oct. 30 – at Beaver Nov. 6 – at Burns Flatt-Dill City

OFFENSE The Oilers lost more than a few starters to graduation off of last year’s 6-4 team. Only two starters return, most notably is running back Brett Custer (5-8, 145). He will carry the load and try to set up the play action pass. Tanner Mong (510, 155) will step in at quarterback. Devin Stephens (5-8, 185) can both carry the ball and block from his fullback position. His health will be crucial for the Oiler offense. Riley Forrester (5-10, 200) will anchor the offensive line. Brody Umsted (5-11, 170) is a talented blocking tight end, who will be asked to catch some big passes. DEFENSE Most of the guys who make an impact on offense, will be asked to play defense as well. All-District nose guard Luak Tut (6-6, 290) will return to wreak havoc on opposing offensive lines. He can disrupt the running game up the middle, but
also has tremendous pass rushing abilities. Stephens is a hard-hitting linebacker who makes a lot of plays out of the 3-2 scheme. Forrester is a talented pass rusher off of the edge. He helps force plays toward the middle of the field. Custer roams the secondary, forcing opposing quarterbacks to pay if they make a wrong decision. ELK CITY ELKS OFFENSE
“A sound, solid, old school, two-back run game,” is what Elk City’s offense will bring to the table every Friday night according to head coach Bill E. Williams. The Elks return nine starters to their offense this year after going 5-5 in 2014. Running back Shayne Thornton (6-3, 220, Sr.) will lead the Elks rushing attack this year. Helping to open up some holes for Thornton will be a massive offensive line led by Jakoby Mikles (6-0, 265, Sr.) and Demarco McMichales (6-2, 300, Sr.). When the Elks do throw the ball it will be Gage Porter (5-11, 190, Jr.) dropping back in the pocket looking for open receivers. Porter’s top target this year will be wide receiver Josh Adams (6-1, 190, Sr.). After averaging 26 points per game last year and 39.4 points per game in their five wins last year Elk City could be a team that puts up points in bunches this season. DEFENSE Williams has a reputation of having defenses that swarm like rabid dogs and that is exactly what the Elks hope to be this year. Last season the Elks gave up an average of 26.1 points per game but fans can expect to see that number drop this season with nine returning starters. On the line look for defensive end Matthew Poole (6-0, 195, Sr.) and Ethan Miller (6-3, 230,
Jakoby Mikles Sr.) to be the major players in the trenches. Linebacker Christian Hoots (6-0, 210, Sr.) will also be a major part of the front seven not only stopping the run but also rushing the passer and defending the pass. In the secondary, Grant Wilcox (6-0, 165, Sr.) and Kade Denney (5-8, 160, Sr.) will be the Elks leaders on the back end. Overall Williams said that his team has the makeup that it takes to be a successful team in Class 4A. “It’s hard to win games and these young men have paid the price. Nobody can guarantee them success but they have earned it. They love each other and that’s the key,” Williams said.

CLINTON RED TORNADOES OFFENSE Clinton returns five starters to the offense this season as head coach Phil Koons hopes to build a playoff contender around quarterback Austin Maine (5-11, 175, Sr.). Maine will lead the multiple-I set with a strong running game and a passing attack that features several playmakers. Deonte Barker (5-9, 160, Jr.) could handle most of the running duties, but has the ability to slide out and play receiver. JJ Brown (6-2, 185, Jr.) and Chris Brooks (5-9, 165, Jr.) are two players in the passing game coach Koons will depend on for big plays. Moving the chains and scoring points is the top priority for the Red Tornadoes. Brown and Brooks have the big play capabilities to do just that. Dawson Ballard (6-0, 185, Jr.) can block on the edge or hurt you in the passing game from his tight end position. “We’re depending on dual-threat quarterback Austin Maine to run the offense. He has a great arm and good speed. Sophomore Greyson Weeden and junior Deonte Barker will share tailback duties. Offensive linemen Hector Hernandez, Bo Felch, Zac Acosta, Mason Waldrop and Colton Gay are solid up front. Receivers Brown, Brooks and Ballard have good hands and speed,” said coach Koons. Austin Maine scheme will feature Jason Reeves (5-10, 160, Sr.) and Dan Lopez (6-0, 170, Jr.) at linebacker. The attacking style of defense will feature nose guard AJ Armbruster (59, 225, Sr.) on the line. Armbruster will be the run stopper in the middle of the line, while Mason Waldrop (6-1, 240, Sr.) and Kevin Narrano (6-0, 180, Sr.) will start at defensive end. “We have a strong defensive line with Armbruster, Joey Roque, Saul Soto and Kevin Naranjo. Linebackers Conley Adams, Dylan Ramirez and Danny Lopez have good speed. The secondary is solid with Jason Reeves, Mark Casas, Deonte Barker and Chris Brooks,” said coach Koons. Because of all of the activities and events I attend, I have met a lot of people and that helps with networking. I have also learned the value of hard work and perseverance,”Stehr said. “Since I am the one that has to take care of my animals, I have learned responsibility. FFA also affords me leadership training and learning to speak in front of a crowd.”

Quick Hits: Weatherford seems to be stuck on the number five. In the past four seasons, the Eagles have lost exactly five times each year.
The Eagles have won three straight against I-40 rival Elk City. Weatherford won 31-18 in 2014 but must travel to Elk City this fall. Weatherford won on the road at Ada 20-7 in the first round of the playoffs. That victory avenged a 42-7 loss to the Cougars back in the first round of the 2004 playoffs. OFFENSE Not one, not two, not three but four. That’s how many times Woody Roof has been the head football coach at Weatherford. Roof, who has won five state titles in his career, was first named head coach of the Eagles back in 1985 and left after he won back-to-back state titles in 1991 and 1992. Roof then came back as head coach in 1999 and guided Weatherford to the state finals in 2002 but left in 2003. In 2007 Roof was again holding the reins at Weatherford and led the Eagles to an 8-4 record but stepped aside after one season to become the athletic director at the school. Now Roof is back and the Eagles are ready to

team’s starting free safety, Haugen made 131 tackles last season and intercepted two passes. Haworth meanwhile made 99 tackles and six sacks last season as a starting defensive lineman. At the linebacker spots Jay Whitson (6-2, 180, Sr.) and Kell Parker (6-0, 175, Sr.) are sure to make things tough on opponents. As a junior, Parker made 86 tackles and recorded five sacks. Ryan Terry (6-2, 180, Jr.) will play alongside Haugen in the secondary, after making 75 tackles and intercepting two passes last year from his spot at strong safety.
OFFENSE Quarterback Cache Garrett has graduated leaving an important piece of the Comet puzzle empty. Running back Zach Smith (5-11, 155, Sr.) returns and could carry the load this season. Jacob Ward (6-3, 160, Sr.) is a big target in the passing game and could be a major factor for the Comets.

OFFENSE The Warriors were undefeated before running into Stratford in the second round of the Class A playoffs. Their playoff run ended with a 49-14 loss, but coming into 2015, the Warriors are aiming to make a deeper run. Coach Larry McDaniel has an exciting group of athletic kids returning. His guys up front are experienced as well. All-District lineman Luke Wilcox (6-1, 255, Jr.) returns after a solid sophomore season. Sherman Addi (6-2, 245, Sr.) will anchor the offensive line. Dallas Nolan (5-11, 175, Sr.) and Tiger Toehay (5-8, 155, Sr.) make up the base of the receiving corps. DEFENSE McDaniel returns five starters to a defense that plays aggressive and physical. Last season, the Warrior defense gave up more than 20 points only three times. Linebacker Tyler Rosas (5-11, 165, Jr.) returns to anchor the defensive unit. OFFENSE Eventual champion Thomas eliminated the Wildcats in the first round of the 2014 Class A playoffs. This season the Wildcats have six starters returning on offense, who look to lead them beyond the first round. All-District running back Luke Kinder (5-9, 165, Sr.) returns and will be expected to step up as a leader. Tyler Brown (5-11, 229, Sr.) will be the

Gordon Williams (5-10, 270, Sr.) adds depth to the offensive line. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball, only four starters return for the Wildcats. Head coach Jim Harvey said there are a lot of questions to be answered on this side of the ball and they need to be aggressive. Brad Bunner (5-10, 190. Jr.) will play linebacker, and he is expected to be an aggressor for this defense. Sam Perkins (6-3, 340, Sr.) is a monster up front, and he will anchor the defensive line. OFFENSE VYPE Top 100 selectee Ethan Spurlock (6-2, 191, Sr.) returns after posting great numbers in 2014. Spurlock rushed for 1,961 yards and 30 touchdowns and threw for 448 yards and eight touchdowns. Spurlock does have weapons at his disposal. Running back Gavin Herttenberger (5-9, 172, Jr.) and tight end Dalton Dirickson (5-11, 159, Sr.) are two skill position players Spurlock will look to get involved in the offense. “We will have to grind it out this year. Using our option attack, we will have to shorten the game by using larger amounts of clock to keep our opponents offenses off the field,” said coach Brad Spurlock. Center Jordon Gauntt (6-1, 258, Sr.) and Dakota Poolaw (6-0, 196, Sr.) give the Tigers two quality blockers up front. Gauntt graded out last year at 89%. “Our season hinges on our offensive line play and on a few of our newcomers adjusting to the speed of high school football quickly,” said Spurlock. DEFENSE Several of the offensive players will move to the defensive side of the ball. Spurlock will start at linebacker where his production is one of the best in the class. Last season he recorded 148 tackles, five forced fumbles, eight sacks and two interceptions. Gaunt will start at nose guard, while Herttenberger will play one of the corner positions. Tate Wheatley (5-11, 152, Sr.) did not
play in 2014, but he’s back and ready to rock at linebacker. Dirickson is another two-way player that figures into the 3-2 base defense. “We will be very inexperienced on defense this year. Our kids will have to be great students in the film room so we can be well prepared come game time. Our focus will be to have them able to recognize the opponents formations and tendencies better in order to hopefully give us an advantage,” said coach Spurlock.
his guard position. Logan Johnson (5-9, 160, Sr.) and Bradley Clayburn (5-8, 165, Sr.) will split time at running back. Johnson and Bradley compliment each other well. Brett Price (510, 150, So.) will serve as an impact tight end.
DEFENSE Almost all of Knight’s players play on both sides of the ball. Two starters return to the defensive side of the ball, highlighted
by defensive end Kobal Wilhoite (6-0, 180, Jr.). Colton Camp (5-7, 165, So.) is young, but has an already made an impact in the secondary. Isaac Derryberry (5-9, 200, Fr.) will rotate in on the offensive line and at defensive end. Rowdy Abeyta (6-1, 195, Sr.) will see some time at quarterback, but he will also rotate in at defensive end. William McCurley (5-11, 200, Jr.) adds depth
to the offensive line, and he is an impact defensive lineman.

Quick Hits: Metro Christian has spoiled two undefeated seasons in the past five years. Metro won in the third round of the 2010 Class 3A playoffs and again last year in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. Defense continues to rule at Anadarko. The Warriors were the best 4A had to offer in terms of points allowed, yielding 5.4 points per game and posting six shutouts. The A nadarko-Chickasha rivalry has been very onesided since returning from a two-year break in 2010. The Warriors have won all five meetings and outscored the Fightin’ Chicks by a count of 51-5. Nacho Gallegos OFFENSE The offensive line could be the strength of the offense this season as head coach Kent Jackson looks to move the sticks on the ground and wear teams out. “We return four starting offensive linemen, which should be the foundation of our offense. If they can block for the run game and the passing game, we should be able to move the ball on the ground and in the air and score some points,” said coach Jackson. Quarterback Nacho Gallegos (6-2, 210, Sr.) will give the Warriors consistency at the position while opening up the option game in the multi set offense. Gallegos has a built in safety valve in tight end Kaden Jackson (6-2, 250, Sr.). Jackson is the perfect target downfield thanks to his size, but his blocking is something that gets overlooked. Jackson could be the best blocking tight end in the class. Running back Tre Eason (5-9, 165, So.) will handle the majority of the plays in the running game. He’ll need tackle Kelby Bailey (6-4, 260, Sr.) and guard Colby McLemore (5-11, 235, Sr.) to make holes up front and help move the chains. “We lost a lot of good players off last years team, but they have laid the foundation. We need to come in

DEFENSE Several players will need to play both ways for the Warriors including Gallegos and Jackson. Gallegos will move to linebacker, while Jackson will start at one of the defensive end spots in the 4-4 defense. “We have returning starters on the defensive line as well as at defensive end. If the inside linebackers and secondary come along the defense should be just as stingy as it has been in recent years,” said coach Jackson. Dace Granger (6-1, 240, Jr.) is the other defensive end coach Jackson has in the arsenal. Granger and Jackson will pressure the opposing offense and set the edge forcing everything back inside to the linebackers. Bailey is another two-way player on defense. Look for the big man to start at defensive tackle. Dawson Alley (5-10, 175, Sr.) is the free safety roaming the field looking to make plays. Alley brings athleticism to the field for the Warriors. The district is a tough one, but when the dust settles expect to see the Warriors at the top.

Anadarko cross country teams young but improving. LADY WARRIORS The Anadarko girls team finished fifth last year at the Class 4A state meet. The good news for the Lady Warriors is that they bring back four runners from last year’s squad. The bad news? They lose their top two runners Kassidy Williams and Callie Goombi, who both graduated last May.
According to head coach John Holten stepping up to fill that void at the top will be junior Lauren Richey. As a sophomore Richey placed 37th at the state tournament with a time of 13:25. Also returning this year is a talented group of sophomores led by Breanna Jones. After crossing the line in 66th place at the state tournament as a freshman Jones is eager to take a leadership role this year. Also in that group of sophomores that will be stepping into much bigger roles this year are Jewlee Igo and Harlie Glidewell. Holten said that although the girls team lost two runners that both placed at the state meet last year he believes the experience the rest of the team gained last year will pay big dividends this season. “Those girls saw the work it took to become that type of runner. I think it really will motivate them to succeed and it lets them know that putting in that hard work will pay off with results,” Holten said. “I don’t know if the team scores will be what they were last year but I do think the girls team will be pretty strong and with everyone improving we could be right there again.” WARRIORS
The Anadarko boys team was also hit hard by graduation this year but that isn’t dampening the hopes of coach Holten.
“I think the boys are a solid bunch of runners that will come out and compete every day,” Holten said.
Senior Cody Catlin looks to be the early favorite to lead the boys team this year after finishing in 77th place last year at the state meet with a time of 18:58. 28

stating with building a solid foundation according to Holten.
“Right now for both the boys and girls teams we are just trying to build our base and really get in a lot of miles. Later in the year we will do some other things like speed work and different types of workouts but you have to have that base first and that’s what we are working on now.

OFFENSE Chickasha started off slow in 2014, but they continued to battle and improved as the season went along. Coming into 2015, coach Jerry Don Bray has an experienced offensive lineman and a multitude of athletic playmakers. This is key in his under center, triple option offense. Bray is excited to get his guys onto the field. “Our kids are a bunch of extremely hard working, tough and physical kids,” Bray said. “We can’t wait until the upcoming season.” Seven starters return to the offensive unit, mainly skill players and lineman. The key player returning is running back Taray Thomas (6-0, 185, Sr.). During his junior campaign in 2014, Thomas ran for 1,168 yards and 16 touchdowns, which were both in the top 10 in Class 5A. Joining Thomas in the backfield are two familiar faces: Kyle McNatt (5-9, 160, Sr.) and Brandon Russell (5-9, 160, Sr.). Both of these guys are vital to the success of the triple option attack. McNatt ran for 419 yards and five touchdowns in 2014, while Russell contributed 189 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Up front, where the games are won and lost, the Fightin’ Chicks return two impactful linemen. Damon Miller (6-2, 290, Sr.) and Kollin Stephens (6-0, 230, Sr.) will lead the way for Thomas and Co.

DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball, coach Bray retains some of his best tacklers, both in the front seven and in the secondary. Clayton Mosley (6-0, 210, Jr.) proved he was ready to make a major impact as a sophomore when he recorded 55 tackles and two sacks. His tackling ability is top notch, and he will be expected to absorb some of the leadership duties, although he is only a junior. Breadon Blakes (5-11, 200, Sr.) will line up next to Mosley at the other linebacker spot in Bray’s 4-2-5 scheme. He recorded 48 tackles as a junior in 2014. At the defensive end position, a good blend of speed and power is required. Fortunately, Preston Phillips (6-1, 220, Sr.) has that blend. His rush off of the edge will be fierce this season. He recorded 23 tackles in 2014. Thomas, who lines up at free safety on defense, proves he’s not just their best offensive player, but also their best overall player. Thomas has 107 career tackles and four career interceptions. Thomas recorded 66 of 107 tackles in 2014. McNatt is also a two-way player for coach Bray. He is a lockdown corner who recorded 38 tackles last year as a junior. This defense is excited to get out there. “The 2015 season will be lead by an experienced group of guys that are hungry to earn a playoff birth,” Bray said.

on improving her game on the diamond year round. This season Gilbert is setting her sights high and hopes to once again lead her team back to gold. “I want to be a leader for the younger girls on the team, and also try to help do my part to make another run to a state title,” Gilbert said. For her efforts as a standout softball player for the Lady Chicks Brighton Gilbert is the Chickasha Athlete of the Month.

Duncan lost all three non district games in 2014 and hasn’t swept that portion of the schedule since 1997. Duncan has lost the past five consecutive season openers. Guthrie has been responsible for all those defeats and by a combined margin of 197-12. The Demons dropped a contest to Altus for the first time since 2008. The experience and abilities of Hayden Moore (6-4, 276, Sr.), J.W. Morrow (6-3, 285, Jr.) and Cole Hennessee (6-2, 235, Sr.) provide the muscle to control the line of scrimmage for the Demons running game as well as provide pass protection. The Demons will also showcase the arm strength of quarterback Luke Ring (6-0, 207, Sr.), who moves to Duncan from Mustang as his dad, Glennis, joins Benson’s coaching staff, “We’ve got the talent to be more balanced with Trenton and Dillon returning to make big plays plus the receivers to get the ball to,” said Benson. “With Luke at quarterback, it gives us a variety of options to stretch the field as well as deliver pinpoint routes on the edge. And, with three big guys back up front, you get added production from all parts of the offense.” DEFENSE While operating from its base 3-4 formation, the Demons will be multiple in their defensive looks taking opportunities for game changing plays from the six returning starters. The ringleader of Duncan’s attacking style will be linebacker Hunter Kelly (5-11, 185, Sr.), who topped the defensive charts with 123 tackles last season. The Duncan Lady Demons came up just short of the state finals last season, but return with a renewed focus and determination to make it to the big game
Corrina Rivas
“Last year we played a very close game against Piedmont. I know Piedmont is still a very strong team, and they aren’t going to be easy to beat. They have pretty big sticks, and a strong pitcher who will be attending Texas Tech next fall. So to help my team out I definitely am going to have to bring my A game, or try to help my teammates Falon Howell & Lillian Rivas know how jump on the batters strategically.,” said Rivas. This summer while playing with Team Mexico in a summer league, Rivas suffered a back injury and could miss most of the season.
KK Williams
Head coach Robert Cowan led his team to a 24-9 record last season, but in the semifinals against Piedmont the Lady Demons fell just short of facing eventual champion Chickasha in the finals. The 2-1 loss serves as a reminder of the little things it takes to get into the state tournament.
“We should have a good chance of reaching the state tournament. We made the semifinals last year and if we get healthy we could make a run for the state finals,” said coach Cowan.
Three juniors and a senior lead the charge this season. Senior KK Williams will start behind the plate giving coach Cowan a dependable and durable player behind the plate. Corrina Rivas pitched in the semifinal game against Piedmont and learned pitching in the big game isn’t easy.
“I will be out for most of the season, but if it’s in God’s will I be back by the time state comes around to help my team make it to the state finals.”
Third baseman Kennedy Stewart enters her junior season ready to show the rest of the class what this team is made of. “I think the team is capable of winning state this year honestly. We have many people with speed and everyone can move around and play
multiple positions,” said Stewart.
Junior Falon Howell will start at first base, but she does have the talent to step into the circle and pitch. Senior Stephanie Wainscott gets the nod at second, while freshman star Tayah Allen is pushing for playing time at shortstop. Allen and Williams could alternate at catcher and short. Fellow freshman Lilly Rivas is another pitcher in the roster coach Cowan is excited to develop. Natalie McKinney, Makayla Gibson, Maranda Gibson and juniors Kylie Greening and Haley Brown will shore up the outfield. Look for freshman Stephanie Cooper and sophomore Maddy Conway to play second base or one of the outfield spots. “We are very ready to start the season, and win a lot of games. We have a very good chance to go all the way this year,” said Howell. One fact that you may not know about the Lady Demons is they are tough at the plate. The offense this team can generate this season should be impressive.“Batter 1-9 is reliable. It’s not just the top or bottom of the line up that carries the team. It’s everyone doing their part,” said Stewart. Maybe that offense mixed with a little luck and a healthy roster will mean Duncan gets that chance to play for all the marbles in October.

OFFENSE After moving up to Class A last year and missing the playoffs for the first time in four years, the Bronchos are eager to return to the postseason. Leading the offensive stampede will be Michael Mays (5-10, 175, Sr.), who enters his third season in the backfield after rushing for 648 yards last season. Adding to the playmaking highlights will be Caleb Wright (5-7, 135, Jr.) and Chase Minden (5-10, 130, Jr.) at wide receiver. Head coach Keith Burton will call upon three-year veteran Sean Edens (6-2, 225, Sr.) at center to help mold a new offensive line while the decision at quarterback will continue into the preseason drills. “Finding the right guy at quarterback is important,” said Burton. “Our offensive front, anchored by Sean, has plenty of promise including several young guys that are battling for playing time.” 38

OFFENSE If you ask Marlow head coach Rob Renshaw to describe his team in one word that word might be ready. “We must replace three starters on the offensive line but we have a solid group of young guys that are ready for the opportunity,” Renshaw said. Quarterback Braeden O’Dell (6-0, 170, Sr.) will be the guiding light for the Marlow offense this year after throwing for 1,285 yards and 12 touchdowns and running for 644 yards and 11 more scores. O’Dell will also have some talented players in the backfield with him as Colt Mitchell (5-10, 180, Sr.) and Wyatt Bergner (6-0, 165, So.) figure to both get a good number of carries. Last season Bergner ran for 842 yards while Mitchell picked up 275 yards on the ground. Another playmaker in the Marlow offense this year will be wide receiver Dawson Huddleston (6-3, 160, So.). Riley Julian (6-1, 220, Sr.) will also be a big target in the pass-
DEFENSE The Bronchos will look for leadership from its three returning starters to guide the defensive efforts. The bulk of the experience returns to the secondary including Mays (66 tackles), Wright (79 tackles) and Minden (15 tackles) return while Sean Edens and Dale Hansen (6-0, 280, Jr.) will anchor the defensive front. Burton expects to gain defensive muscle from a pair of sophomores, Brandon Martin (5-10, 200, So.) and Hayden Cooper (5-11, 185, So.) to fill the gaps at linebacker. Special teams will be a plus for Central where Caleb Wright, Michael Mays and Hayden Cooper created exciting action last year. ing game as he moves from offensive guard to tight end this season. DEFENSE On defense the Outlaws return six starters to their 3-4 base defense. To a team that allowed 14 points or less four different times last year and only surrendered an average of 21.25 points per game that is a welcome sight for Outlaw fans and a dreaded one for their opponents. Preston Nunley (5-10, 190, Jr.) will play a key role at linebacker this year; as will both Will Coffman (6-0, 165, So.) and Julian. Up front, look for Kayd Kelly (6-2, 225, Sr.) to wreak havoc off the edge from his position at defensive end. Finally on the back end of the Marlow defense expect O’Dell to make a wealth of plays from his spot at safety as he showcases the athleticism that made him the Class 3A champion in the 300-meter hurdles and the runner-up in the high jump last spring.
Enrollment: 318
Schedule: Sept. 3 – vs. Velma-Alma Sept. 11 – at Tishomingo Sept. 18 – at Frederick Sept. 25 – at Marlow Oct. 2 – vs. Sulphur Oct. 9 – at Madill Oct. 15 – vs. Plainview Oct. 23 – at Lone Grove Oct. 30 – vs. Dickson Nov. 6 – at Meeker
Last 5 Years: 2014 - 2-8 2013 - 2-7 2012 - 5-6 2011 - 9-3 2010 - 2-7 OFFENSE Eight starters return to Comanche head coach Micah Mashburn’s multiple set offense this year and they come at a wide variety of positions. Up front the Indians will be led by lineman Jaden Biffle (6-0, 195, Sr.) who graded out at a 90 percent last season. Tight end Mason Taylor (6-2, 225, Sr.) will also be part of the blocking scheme this year along with a threat in the passing game. Last season Taylor caught 12 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Braden Ledford
(5-8, 147, Sr.) is another player to watch in the passing attack after racking up 650 all-purpose yards last season. Brandon VanOven (6-0, 185, Jr.) is a skill player to watch this season as well. Listed as an athlete, VanOven had 32 catches last season for 320 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 50 yards and two more touchdowns. Justin Hall (6-0, 160, Sr.) is the favorite to win the starting quarterback job this year after splitting his time last year either under center or split out wide at receiver. In his junior season Hall had 182 yards receiving and 120 yards rushing with five total touchdowns.
DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball Comanche returns seven starters this year and will try to employ a simple but fundamental attacking style. At linebacker VanOven will team with Stony Mitchell (6-1, 205, Jr.) and Austin Jamison (6-0, 200, Jr.) to form the group that will spearhead Comanche’s defense. Last season VanOven made 55 tackles, had two sacks, six tackles for loss and forced five fumbles. Mitchell meanwhile recorded 50 tackles in just five games due to an
injury-shortened season. Finally Jamison, who will also see some time on the defensive line, had 77 tackles and 11 for loss a year ago. Another area Comanche should be very strong in will be the secondary. Hall will be the leader of that group after intercepting five passes last season. Chaz Allen (6-0, 173, Jr.) will team with Hall giving the Indians a big 1-2 punch on the back end. As a sophomore Allen made 22 tackles and had one interception and will be expected to do even more this season.
BRAY-DOYLE DONKEYS
COACH: TOM INMAN ENROLLMENT: 105 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 0-10 2011 - 1-9 2012 - 1-9 2013 - 1-4 2014 - 1-9
OFFENSE Bray-Doyle enters the 2015 season with a new leader in the corral as Tom Inman takes the reins to guide the Donkeys’ turnaround from a program that has won only four games over the past four years. Inman’s first order of business is to establish a running game and will rely upon the efforts of Austin Hall (6-0, 180, Jr.) and Jordan Milhourn (5-11, 160, Jr.), who saw plenty of action last season as sophomores. The success of Inman’s game plan to establish the run will also require execution on the line of scrimmage where Christian Bandy (6-2, 195, Jr.) will bolster efforts as the
Donkeys battle for success in the eight-man game.
DEFENSE The Donkeys will have a stable full of challenges to reverse the defensive gaps from last season resulting in a defensive average of 57.3 points per game. The fight to control action on the line of scrimmage is a point of emphasis as Inman will rely upon Austin Hall at nose guard and Christian Bandy at end while Jordan Milhourn attacks from his linebacker spot. “Consistency and discipline is our primary focus,” said Inman. “We’re working to improve things on a day-by-day basis and continue to compete week-to-week.” The District B-2 schedule for 2015 will be highly competitive including last year’s Class B state champion, Alex in week five. The Donkeys take to the trails to open the season for its first two games before returning home week three versus Cyril. Sept. 4 – at Mountain View-Gotebo Sept. 11 – at Geary Sept. 18 – vs. Cyril Sept. 25 – at Allen Oct. 2 – vs. Alex Oct. 9 – vs. Macomb Oct. 15 – at Strother Oct. 23 – vs. Waurika Oct. 30 – at Maud Nov. 6 – vs. Maysville

COACH: COLT ALLISON ENROLLMENT: 119 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 11-1 2011 - 6-6 2012 - 8-4 2013 - 6-5 2014 - 7-4
OFFENSE The Comets soar into 2015 with expectations of something special after using a four game win streak to reach the Class A playoffs last season. The commander of the V-A starship, Colt Allison, welcomes the return of eight offensive starters including two 1,000 yard running backs, Jake Combest (510, 180, Sr.) who gained 1,038 yards and scored 13 times and Shiloh Womack (5-9, 170, Sr.) who scored 11 touchdowns while totaling 1,006 yards. Evan Albertson (5-8, 200, Sr.) also ran for 925 yards as the third member of the Comets’ flexbone offense. “Because of his ability to read defenses, we’re moving Jake to quarterback,” said Allison. “In the triple option, we’ll have all three guys in the backfield at one time forcing opposing defense to choose which one to stop.” Crediting Combest quick release ability, Allison doesn’t mind throwing the football especially when tight end Jake McGuire (65, 235, Sr.) is one of the receivers down field. Logan Sloan (5-10, 205, Sr.) who graded out at 82 percent blocking for the season returns to the front line joined by Dathon Speight (60, 205, Sr.). The trio of McGuire, Sloan and Speight are three year starters.
2014 joins Jason Riffe (5-11, 200, Jr.) on the defensive line where Albertson, Aaron Saville (6-0, 220, Jr.) and Kaden Roden (5-10, 205, So.) are expected to contribute. Three year starter Andrew McGuire (6-3, 160, Sr.) and Colby Martin (5-10, 150, Sr.), who made 39 tackles last year, will anchor the secondary unit. “One word…FINISH,” said Allison in describing the expectations for the upcoming season. “We need to get better every week, win the games we’re supposed to win and then rise to the top.” Sept. 4 – at Comanche Sept. 11 – vs. Wynnewood Sept. 18 – at Elmore City Sept. 25 – vs. Healdton Oct. 2 – at Wilson Oct. 9 – vs. Ringling Oct. 15 – vs. Frederick Oct. 23 – vs. Empire Oct. 30 – at Rush Springs Nov. 6 – at Central Marlow
DEFENSE The Comets remain in the 5-2 alignment where speed on defense is an advantage as seven starters return. Devyn Davis (6-4, 205, Sr.) recorded 67 tackles and five sacks last year and will line up next to McGuire at linebacker while Speight, who made 52 tackles in

Ardmore ended a seven game losing streak to Lawton MacArthur, knocking off the Highlanders 27-22 at the Noble Complex last year. to the Class 5A state semifinals, Walker (5-8, 165, Sr.) totaled 1,594 yards rushing while averaging 14.6 yards per touch and scoring 21 touchdowns. Another proven performer returning to the ‘bone is fullback Kydric Knox (5-10, 175, Sr.), who rushed for 954 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Newby will also have experience at quarterback with Clay Atwood (5-11, 175, Sr.) directing the Tigers’ attack that averaged 420 yards and 39.1 points per contest last year. A key to Ardmore’s offense will be the play in the trenches where Newby looks to Kodie Harvey (6-1, 220, Sr.) and Shawn Harvey (6-0, 210, Jr.) to control the line of scrimmage. “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it,” said Newby referencing the success of the Tigers’ running game. “We want to continue to do what we do best and get better at it by making the passing game a little more efficient and force opponents to defend it. ” DEFENSE After serving as defensive coordinator prior to taking the top spot on the Tigers’ football staff, Newby anxiously looks for defensive success with five returning starters. Nick Weldon (5-10, 180, Jr.), who recorded 90 tackles last year, returns to linebacker in Ardmore’s 4-2-5 alignment alongside Isaiah Clark (5-11, 185, Sr.). The roar of the Tigers defensively will again be loud and proud as Tyreece Lott (6-2, 265, Jr.), whose 3 sacks were among the defensive tackle’s 50 stops, returns to the front four along with Tevin Bowman (5-11, 195, Sr.) at defensive end. Shawn Harvey erts (6-1, 170, Jr.) has the ability to play lockdown corner while continuing the prowess of the Tigers secondary. “Our defensive approach is still the same,” Newby noted, “take pride by playing hard, smart and physical.” After opening the 2015 season on the road against longtime rival Ada, Newby’s Tigers return to Noble Stadium for three home contests including their 5A-1 district opener against Del City. While stability is a prominent word describing Ardmore Tigers football, there’s one change that Newby and his coaches and players are ready for this season in their quest for a state championship, something Ardmore has not won since 1992. “Losing that game in the state semifinals last year still remains a sour taste,” said Newby. “We’ve been to the semis four times since I’ve been here but didn’t win. It’s a reason to stay hungry and take the next step.”
Ardmore Academic Athlete
Chris Garcia - Ardmore High School to even be in the competition physically as well as mentally, when your body is hurting and you want to stop you have to keep going,” said Garcia.
Every runner has a favorite place to run. For Garcia it’s a very familiar place to a lot of runners in the state. “My favorite place to run competition wise is Edmond’s course although being next to the high school it still has some secluded areas that are really beautiful.
Cross country runners are known for having great stamina, but what many people forget is how tough they are mentally. Ardmore senior Chris Garcia is the definition of a mentally tough runner with the physicality to be at the front of the pack. With a 4.0 GPA, several honors classes on his resume and a class ranking of 3rd out of 175 students, Garcia has proven he can get the job done in the classroom and on the course. “You have to be really fit and in shape
down the shoot.”
In his free time Garcia enjoys hanging out with his girlfriend. When he’s not running he’s working, helping out with the family or watching movies with his girlfriend and younger siblings.
After high school Garcia and his parents are considering scholarship opportunities and working on a plan to attend college next fall.
My personal favorite place to run would be running with my girlfriend at Ardmore’s track.”
But it’s not all business when competing. During his time at Ardmore High School, Garcia has seen some pretty funny stuff while competing.
“Sophomore year I was at this meet and it was the last 400 before the finish. A former schoolmates cousin and I were neck and neck when he started screaming, “this can’t happen to me!” I finished the race and started busting out laughing because it literally happened to him. He got passed by five people in a dead sprint. He then took the time to point them out while we were walking

Coach: JEREMY TURNER Enrollment: 380
Schedule: Photo by Mayberry Sept. 4Michael – at Marietta Sept. 11 – vs. Hugo Sept. 18 – at Sanger, Texas Sept. 25 – vs. Madill Oct. 2 – at Plainview Oct. 9 – at Bethany Oct. 16 – vs. Dickson Oct. 23 – vs. Comanche Oct. 30 – at Marlow Nov. 6 – vs. Sulphur Last 5 Years: 2014 - 9-2-1 2013 - 8-3 2012 - 5-6 2011- 4-6 2010 – 5-5
OFFENSE Two-time VYPE Top 100 selectee Jeremy Lewis (6-2, 205, Sr.) will once again lead the Lone Grove Longhorns this season. Last year, Lewis led the Longhorns to a 9-2-1 record with his 2,500 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. Lone Grove head coach Jeremy Turner had high praise for his running back. “Jeremy Lewis is the number one running back in Oklahoma,” Turner said. “We will use him a lot in our up tempo offense.” Lewis isn’t the only talented player for coach Turner’s offense. Wide receiver Adonis McGee (5-11, 165, Sr.) returns after catching 38 passes for 518 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He will be the top target for Garrett Lemons (5-8, 165, Jr.) and Grant Harmon (6-0, 170, Sr.). Harmon started in 2013, and amassed more than 3,000 total yards, but missed 2014 due to injury. Lemons stepped for Harmon as a sophomore and did an excellent job. He threw for 1,346 yards and 11 touchdowns while filling in. Those two should split time and give the Longhorns and even more diverse attack. Silas Taylor (6-3, 320, So.) is already making impact, although he is young. He is the anchor on the offensive line.

is the leader of the defense. He leads by example, as his 146 tackles and four sacks prove that. Next to him is Ethan Moore (6-0, 195, Jr.). Moore was all over the field as a sophomore, recording 68 tackles and three sacks. Marshall Zabonik (6-1, 220, Jr.) had a monster sophomore season. He is a beast of a defensive lineman and he recorded 32 tackles and four sacks last season. Chaz McGuire (5-10, 200, Sr.) adds more depth to an already deep linebacker core. He had 63 tackles, one sack and an interception in 2014. William Sam (6-1, 220, Sr.) had a productive junior season in 2014. He had 43 tackles and a sack. His numbers will be expected to increase in his senior year.

PLAINVIEW INDIANS Coach: CHRIS BERUS Enrollment: 389
Schedule: Sept. 4 – vs. Sanger Tx Sept. 11 – at Pauls Valley Sept. 18 – vs. Clinton Sept. 25 – at Douglass Oct. 2 – vs. Lone Grove Oct. 9 – vs. Dickson Oct. 15 – at Comanche Oct. 23 – at Marlow Oct. 30 – vs. Sulphur Nov. 6 – at Madill Last 5 Years: 2014 - 5-7 2013 - 13-1 2012 - 9-3 2011- 9-4 2010 – 8-4
OFFENSE Coming off back-to-back deep playoff runs the Indians came back down to Earth a bit last season finishing 5-7 overall, losing in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to eventual
Eli Paul
Kobe Brewster champion Heritage Hall. This season head coach Chris Berus is looking forward to the challenge of once again becoming a team that opponents don’t want to see late in the season. “We look forward to great competition in and out of the district, maturing into a district contender and preparing to make a playoff run,” Berus said. Plainview’s biggest strength this year will be their play on the offensive line. Guards Dylan Marr (5-10, 250, Sr.) and Jonathon Wright (6-2, 270, Jr.) will be the teeth of that group up front. Quarterback Kobe Brewster (5-9, 160, Jr.) and receiver Parker Foster (5-9, 160, Jr.) will be key skill players in Plainview’s Pistol style attack. Jamaal Betterson (5-10, 155, Sr.) is an athlete that Berus will move all around the field to find matchups in his favor. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball the Indians will operate out of a
4-2-5 base and be an attacking unit that competes with tremendous effort every play according to Berus. Linebackers Broc Berus (6-0, 205, Jr.) and Cole Borin (5-11, 185, Sr.) will anchor the middle of that defense and be asked to make plays in a variety of ways this season. Working behind Plainview’s two talented linebackers will be possibly an even more talented secondary. Cornerback Kameron Spencer (6-0, 175, Sr.) will spearhead that talented group. Safeties Eli Paul (5-9, 175, Jr.) and Brett Woods (5-9, 160, Jr.) will also be key cogs depended on to keep the defense running smoothly. Playing in a district that will contain some potent offensive attacks such as Lone Grove’s powerful rushing attack and Marlow’s balanced style the Indians will need to be able to defend multiple styles and bring their A game each and every week.

Wade, Lady Indians Pumped for 2015 pretty well,” Wiliams said.
That mentality of continuing to improve is something that permeates the program at Plainview and something Wade preaches day in and day out. “We always want to improve. We’ve talked about taking the season as a ladder and continuing to go up that ladder everyday each of the past two seasons,” Wade said. “We don’t feel like we are at our peak right now but we don’t want to be.”
er anytime she wasn’t in the circle.
With any luck Matherly will recover and return to the team, making the Lady Indians even stronger and an even greater threat to contend for a spot in the state tournament. For now however Wade says that senior Tayte Sampson has stepped up in a big way in the circle while Morgan has moved into the leadoff spot without a hiccup. Sampson and Morgan aren’t the only Senior utility player Jessica Mason and sophomore third baseman Halee Womack have also stepped up in big ways along with many other players according to Wade.
“The girls have picked up the slack. Their attitude has been great and their effort has been amazing, I can’t complain at all, they have been great,” Wade said.
“Now that we know what that experience is like I think we are definitely better prepared,” Morgan said.
Jessica Mason Plainview coach Tim Wade couldn’t be more excited about his team and neither could his players
Coming into the season excitement was just in the air surrounding the Plainview softball team. After winning their district tournament last year and advancing to the regional tournament before being eliminated last season the Lady Indians couldn’t wait to hit the diamond this year.

That excitement took a big punch to the gut just before the season when star junior Hanna Beth Matherly was hospitalized with a bout of mononucleosis. Matherly was slated to be one of Plainview’s top two pitchers, leadoff hitter and a starting outfieldVYPEOK.COM

Without Matherly on the field, Wade has turned to the entire team to step up and said he hasn’t been disappointed.
Junior first baseman McKenzie Williams said that she feels happy about how the team has come together but admits there is still room to get better.
“I feel like we have stepped up a lot. We’ve done pretty good, we still need to keep improving but we have done
No matter what happens with Matherly’s health, the player that took her spot at the top of the lineup Emily Morgan, says she believes last year’s loss in the regional tournament has made them better already. Whether it is just gained experience or something more one thing is for sure you can’t miss the excitement surrounding this program.
Character is a combination of qualities that distinguishes one person or group from another. Holland Health in Ardmore celebrates achievements of local high school athletes by presenting the monthly “Character Counts Award.” Plainview softball player Hanna Beth Matherly is about as versatile as it gets on a diamond. Matherly can play any position in the infield or the outfield but says she loves to be in the circle most of all. This season Matherly has several goals for herself. “First off I want to perform to the best of my ability so that my teammates and I have the best opportunity to compete. Second I want to show my teammates and others that hard work, dedication and having a positive mindset always pays off,” Matherly said. For her last and most important goal Matherly pointed to her Christian faith. “Above all my goal is to glorify God through playing this sport. Like it says in Colossians 3:17 ‘And whatever you do, whether speech or actions, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Outside of softball Matherly is very involved in other activities. Matherly is active in FCA and the BETA Club, a member of her local church and works at a local pharmacy. For her efforts in softball and in the community Hanna Beth Matherly is the Plainview Character Counts Athlete of the Month.
