Tonight’s Honorees

Don & Maura Horton

Dear Friends, We are thrilled to have you as our guests tonight at The Magic of Hope: 12th Annual Gala & Auction benefiting the Washington Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association. The hope in our gala theme permeates our organization. For the people living with Parkinson’s disease that we serve, APDA Washington’s network of donors, board members, and community members ultimately provide the feeling of hope necessary to live better with Parkinson’s, until we find a cure. With your help, tonight’s gala can create hope for the Parkinson’s community in Washington State. APDA Washington is proud that every dollar you spend tonight will go entirely toward funding effective programs and services that help to “Ease the Burden and Find the Cure” for Parkinson’s disease. So please enjoy the evening—the fabulous food and wine, the fun, the people—and know that every time you bid, buy or contribute toward the Fund-a-Need, you will truly be making a difference. Thank you for being a part of The Magic of Hope! Sincerely,

Kristi Murphy Executive Director

We are so pleased to honor Don Horton, career college football coach whose players include Seahawk Super Bowl Champion, Russell Wilson, and his wife Maura Horton. Don was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson’s disease at the age 48. Don’s wife Maura recently launched the clothing company MagnaReady to offer an alternative to a button up dress shirt for her husband and those who have the challenge of limited dexterity. After a football game, coach Horton, who had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s but had not yet disclosed his health challenge to his team, struggled to button up his dress shirt in time to catch a team plane. Russell Wilson, who noticed his frustration, quietly went over and finished buttoning up his shirt for his coach. When Don returned home that night, he told his wife of his embarrassment, difficulty and Russell Wilson’s kind gesture. This event is what spurred Maura to create MagnaReady - a button down dress shirt that uses magnets in place of buttons. Don and Maura live in North Carolina with their two girls Hayes and Hadley Ellison.

General auction Rules REGISTRATION As you arrive, please stop at the registration table for your bidder index card with name, bidder number, and table assignment. Keep this card with you during the silent auctions for reference to this information. Your bid packets including your large bid card and catalog will be at your table.

EXPRESS PAY At check-in, you may opt for Express Pay and avoid long checkout lines at the end of the auction. Let the cashier run your credit card, and you will receive your paid receipts throughout the evening as you bid. At the conclusion of the evening, just take your receipts to the Pick-Up Area and retrieve your items. By bidding during the Live Auction, Silent Auction, and Almost Live Auction, each bidder agrees to the following auction rules.

SILENT & ALMOST LIVE AUCTIONS Bidding begins at 5:30pm. The Silent & Almost Live Auctions will close at 6:45pm and 7:00pm, respectively. All items in the Silent Auctions have bid forms adjacent to them. If you want to bid on an item, write your bid number and last name on the bidding sheet next to the preprinted amount of your choice. Most silent auction items have a “Guaranteed Purchase” bid amount designated. By signing your bid number in this box, the bidding on this item closes and the item is yours.

LIVE AUCTION The Live Auction will begin during dinner and will continue without intermission until all items have been auctioned. To enter a bid, the bidder signals either the auctioneer or one of the spotters with a bid card. Use only the number assigned to you. The auctioneer will determine the successful bidder. PLEASE NOTE:

1. All winning bids are final. There will be no exchanges, refunds, or extensions on items except where specified. In the event of a dispute, the decision of the Auction Manager will be final. 2. Please pay attention to all conditions, restrictions and expiration dates on auction items and services. Many auction packages require the buyer to coordinate with donors, are subject to availability, or will be held on a mutually agreeable date. We appreciate your strict observation of these restrictions, as future donations depend on it. 3. All wines and spirits may be sold and delivered only to persons who are at least 21 years old. 4. The APDA WA reserves the right to withdraw any item from the auction. 5. Items depicted in the slide presentation are for illustration purposes. 6. APDA WA has endeavored to catalogue and describe the auction items correctly, but all items are sold “asis.” No statements contained in this program or made orally at the sale or elsewhere shall be deemed to be such a warranty, representation or condition of the property. 7. Payment for items must be made in full the evening of the auction. We accept cash, checks and all major credit cards. All items must be picked up the night of the Auction. Note: All purchases are tax deductible as provided by law. The value of the evening, including beverages, is estimated to be $115 per person. APDA WA encourages all attendees, donors and contributors to consult a tax advisor regarding the tax deductibility of gifts to this event.
