Community Sector Support What we do
The Council’s Community Sector Support service provides a range of services developed to meet the needs of organisations working with and for the community service sector in WA. This includes non-profit organisations, Local, State and Commonwealth government departments, and social enterprises. Our core focus is on building the capacity of the community services sector by providing you with practical skills, knowledge and resources to help you meet the demands of operating services as well as meeting the needs of the community now and in the future. More than ever, not-for-profit and community organisations are facing increasing service demands and significant obligations due to recent policy, legislative and regulatory reforms. These include meeting legal, human resources and governance requirements, as well as business planning, data collection and evaluation methodologies. The Council offers assistance with meeting these demands through offering a range of information, support and education options including: Public Training events We understand that building knowledge from the ground up and improving existing skills leads to a stronger, more confident and viable sector. Frontline Roles Aboriginal Cultural Awareness This half day course provides an awareness about aboriginal history, culture, language, triumphs and disadvantage. This course is great for those wanting an introduction. Advocacy for Frontline Workers Achieving the best outcome when advocating on behalf of a client, requires a specific set of knowledge and skills. Frontline Roles Emergency Relief (ER) Essentials This half day course is an introduction to the ER sector. It is a ‘must’ for all those new to ER and is an excellent refresher for those who have some experience in the sector. The course provides an overview of the purpose and structure of ER services; an understanding of the various principles and models of ER service delivery and some tips on key knowledge and skill sets required to deliver effective ER services. Financial Literacy Education Skills (3 Accredited Units) If you work with clients in financial hardship or at risk of this, then this 3 day course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to help clients manage their own money better. Service Design Collective Impact This workshop will provide an overview of the Collective Impact framework and how it can provide a roadmap for highly effective collaboration. Using a Logic Framework for Designing Services & Programs The Logic Framework is a tool to help strengthen your service or program design, implementation and evaluation. Using a project management cycle, the framework helps you organise thinking, relate activities and investment to expected results, set KPI’s to allocate responsibilities and assists in communicating what you are doing. Using Stories for Measuring Outcomes (MSC) The MSC technique provides a systematic and valid way of collecting the most significant stories that measure the impact of a project or program. The technique is highly inclusive of stakeholders and is a valuable monitoring and evaluation tool, especially where quantitative data collection can be limited.
