Waco Gem and Mineral Club’s 59th Annual Show

Please join us for the May lunch meeting at 11:30 a.m. on May 15, 2019 at Ridgewood Country Club at 7301 Fish Pond Road. Our speaker will have your attention, for sure! Professor John Wood is a native of Alabama; he came to teach at Baylor in 1981, retiring in 2004. He's an author and storyteller. He will favor us with some very interesting stories from the grave about some deceased Hollywood stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Gary Cooper and more. Historic Homes of Waco, Texas Thursday, May 16 • 6:00 pm Mayborn Museum, 1300 S University Parks Dr

Learn about Waco’s original “fixer-uppers” from architectural historian and chair of the Department of Museum Studies at Baylor University, Kenneth Hafertepe. Attendees will get a glimpse of the surprising variety of styles and stories captured in the houses built by and for Wacoans through a discussion of his recently published book, Historic Homes of Waco, Texas. Focusing on the period from 1850s – 1940s, Hafertepe discuss the dwellings in which people of Waco lived as well as informed hints about how they lived – everyone from the wealthiest merchants to the humblest day laborers. A book signing will take place following the lecture. An accompanying exhibit, At Home in Waco, featuring 30 images of the homes represented in the book, will be on display at the Mayborn Museum until April 2020. Included in the price of admission. Museum Members and Baylor University students receive free admission.

32nd Annual Stilwell Pancake Breakfast Saturday, June 8 • 8:00 am – 10:30 am Stilwell Retirement Residence 5400 Laurel Lake

This wonderful gathering of residents, families and friends always welcomes hundreds of hungry guests that will fill up on pancakes and raise money for the residents at Stilwell. Cost $6 per person All money raised goes directly to the Stilwell Activity Fund which uses these funds to provide extras for those that live at Stilwell and to support many in-house projects.

McLennan County Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale Saturday, May 4th • 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Westview Shopping Center (in the center breezeway) 551 N. Valley Mills

There will be a wide array of fresh, healthy plants including annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, herbs & vegetable, topicals, roses, Texas natives, succulents, cacti, vines, ground cover and plants that attract butterflies hummingbirds and bees all grown by local Master Gardeners. Plus seminars at 10 a.m. (Texas Native Plants), 1 p.m. (Planting for Pollinators) and 2 p.m. (Why Herbs?).

Varied Community projects and friendships abound with Altrusa of Waco Saturday, May 4th • 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Waco Federated Women’s Clubs, 2900 Bosque Blvd. Light refreshments will be served.
