and color multi-function display as standard equipment. Previously unavailable, the 2.5i Premium manual transmission model is now equipped with a moonroof standard. New for 2015, the 2.5i Touring models will receive standard high luster 18” alloy wheels. All Touring models feature Keyless Access & Start, HID lights and chrome rocker trim. Subaru Symmetrical AllWheel Drive, a distinction from the competitive models that come with frontwheel drive as standard and offer all-wheel drive as an extra-cost option. The Subaru Forester’s continued sales success has helped Subaru achieve five consecutive annual sales records.

EYESIGHT

Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist system earned the highest rating given by

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a Superior rating, when IIHS conducted its first test of accidence avoidance technologies. The EyeSight system integrates Adaptive Cruise Control, PreCollision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning. One of the most affordable such technologies available in the U.S. market, EyeSight uses a stereo camera design developed by Subaru to provide a detection angle wider than

TRACTION

The Forester models feature two versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, each of which continuously powers all four wheels and can transfer more power to the wheels with the best grip. Both versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive integrate the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system to further enhance all-weather stability and traction, but they do not rely on VDC to distribute power, as some other AWD systems do.

“The award-winning redesign of the Subaru Forester has been further enhanced with the 2015 model year. With a superior safety rating, enhancements in Subaru’s robust accident-avoidance technology, over 30 highway mpg’s, and a wide range of available features, the 2015 Forester embodies an optimal balance of affordability and luxury. Stop by Jubilee Subaru in Waco for one of the largest selections of 2015 Foresters in Central Texas!” - Jubilee Subaru GM, Bart Bass

Loving your Subaru is even easier now, because Jubilee Subaru is looking after you. Every new Subaru gets 2 years or 24,000 miles of complimentary maintenance.

A Clean Test Drive No matter how good it looks or how beautifully it’s described in the ad, every used car has to pass one test: Does it feel right when you drive it? Getting behind the wheel of a used car is one of the best ways of judging whether it’s the right one for you, and that’s an answer that’s going to be different for every driver. Some drivers want a car that feels crisp, firm, sporty and precise. Others want a car that floats comfortably and smoothly down the road, soaking up the bumps and potholes. Aside from getting an overall feeling for the vehicle, though, here are some things to think about when doing your test drive.

Auto For Sale CADILLAC CTS 2007 - 1 owner, 62k miles, leather, sunroof. $14,795/trade. 751-1444 woodwaycarcenter.com

FIRST IMPRESSIONS Before putting the car into gear, sit in the driver’s seat and play with all the switches and buttons you see. Do the power windows and locks work? Are the A/C and heater doing their jobs? Does the CD player work properly?

ON THE ROAD For the test drive itself, you’ll want to make sure you drive in a wide variety of conditions and speeds. Make sure you get a sense for how the vehicle drives at highway speeds, so plan on driving it somewhere with a speed limit of 60 mph or higher. Pay close attention to any front-end problems that will reveal themselves on the highway, like shakes, shimmies and vibrations.

Auto For Sale CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE 2002. Millennium yellow, automatic, all power w/dual A/C, targa top, heads-up display, new battery, chrome wheels, new Magnaflow exhaust, new factory leather seats. $19,500. 254-848-4177 FIAT 500C LOUNGE 2012 Sunroof. Many extras. Exc. cond. Below retail! 8,800 mi. Call 254-754-8273

Note any strange feelings in the steering. If the steering wheel is vibrating at any speed, that’s a sign that the car has a problem — perhaps very minor, or perhaps major, depending on the cause. You should accelerate from a standstill and take note of any issues. Listen for any unusual sounds, and notice whether the car steers to one side or the other under acceleration. Pay attention to how the transmission shifts. Check the brakes on the car to make sure the pedal feels firm, the car stops in a controlled way and doesn’t pull to one side or the other. A slight vibration at the brake pedal or squealing sound could be a sign that it will need a brake job soon.

AFTER THE DRIVE Take a break after the test drive to evaluate your feelings and see anything that you might have missed after your first walk around the car. It’s a good idea to leave the car running while you walk around and listen for any unusual noises outside the vehicle. Check for unusual exhaust gases, puddles under the car and leaks in the engine bay. If you haven’t done so already, open all the doors and sit in the back seats to see how they fit. You’ll notice different aspects of the car while sitting in back, and it might help you choose one vehicle over another.

FAMILY TRAVEL | SENIORS

Multi-Generational Car Travel By Christine Tibbetts

I

TravelingMom.com

ncreasingly elders are having trouble lowering themselves into back seats when their balance is shaky and strength is not at its peak. the door to her stall. Crawling under worked for me but what if I had waited outside enjoying the sunshine? Automatic faucets confound many users; count on that with elder road trippers. High-intensity hand dryers can cause immense pain for elders with tinnitus or hearing aids dialed high enough to hear the grandchildren in the back seat. Just air dry as you walk together.

Alas, that is not an option. So consider these tips and ideas for helping seniors keep their humor — and dignity — in tact during long family road trip excursions. These ideas are the product of many a multigenerational road trip — everything from long journeys to visit other relatives to half-day drives to catch a plane or a cruise ship.

PILLOWS, BLANKETS, FOOT RESTS Parents know that keeping young ones comfortable helps make the road trip go more smoothly. The same goes for seniors. Bring along pillows to provide lower back lumbar relief and for nodding napping necks. If you like to keep the car cool to help the driver stay alert, bring a blanket or cover to ensure comfort for elders who tend to chill easily. It can save many discussions about the air conditioning controls. Besides, there’s a good chance those controls are inconveniently high in an SUV ceiling or too far front on the dashboard, so some members of the greatest generation members might be more likely to endure than complain.

BATHROOM STOPS The classic father-threatened widemouthed jar or “hold it” instruction

SUSTENANCE

simply won’t do traveling when with the elders. Gracious is the code word for these road trips. That means pulling into rest stops whether the driver wants to or not. 2),* (/+ $/0'* .,!+ &"% -%0%1*, /# a little walking add up too — for everyone. Elders aren’t the only ones who get stiff after long periods of inactivity.

BATHROOM MECHANICS I’ve seen toilets on interstate highway rest stops low enough for kindergarteners. Gently guide your grandmother to the stall with grab bars and a taller toilet. Take nothing for granted; my 90-year-old mother got rattled in a public bathroom and could not open

A thermos with milk and a package of cheese crackers to share was my parents’ notion of responsible dining on road trips when they were 80. That’s when they were driving, and stopping every 100 miles to switch drivers. Even on the interstate shoulder if that’s when mileage arrived. Once they became passengers on family trips, restaurant stops only happened if the rest of us said eating was our need, not a favor for them.

DEVICES AND GADGETS Unless your elders also amuse themselves with the latest small electronics, chances are they will feel neglected and insulted if everyone in the vehicle is so engaged. Build in conversation.
