Jesus Carries His Cross Jesus is arrested soon after being in the Garden of Gethsemane. He is tortured and tried and sentenced to death by crucifixion. He is carrying his cross to the place of execution, Golgotha. Mary (in blue) and John (in green) follow in the crowd.
Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must say no to themselves. They must pick up their cross and follow me. Whoever wants to save their life will lose it. But whoever loses their life for me and for the good news will save it.

Low in the grave He lay— Waiting the coming day— Vainly they watch His bed— Vainly they seal the dead— Jesus my Lord! Death cannot keep his prey— He tore the bars away— Jesus, my Savior! Jesus my Lord! Robert Lowry

If that had been the end then we would not be here now contemplating this astonishing window. Jesus would have been forgotten as another failed leader of rebellion. However we are here today because the tomb could not hold Jesus because he was raised from the dead and appeared to many in the resurrection appearances in the Bible, 40 days later Jesus ascends to heaven to take his place in heaven, which is where this panel window picks up the story. Jesus enthroned on high in heaven with a crown of glory not a crown of thorns Up from the grave He arose, With a mighty triumph o’er His foes He arose a Victor from the dark domain, And He lives forever with His saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose! Robert Lowry (1826-1899) WWW.BLWCHURCH.COM
