Programmatic Structure - Comprehensive Studio

A fabrica�on laboratory (Fab Lab), is a small-scale, versa�le workshop space offering space, tools and equipment for (most o�en digital fabrica�on. Therefore, the architecture of a fab lab needs to accommodate heavy machineries, and also provide space for communal, crea�ve gathering. Located in the SoMa district in San Francisco, our site of the FAB LAB project is situated in an industrial, warehouse zone, and also at close proximity of busy, main vehicular boulevards. This creates opportunity to a�ract interested individuals as well as providing an in�mate space for project creators. The project consists of 2 major ideas, levita�on and spaces informed by the progression of programs.



The project invests in the corner of the lot, opening that up to expand the sidewalk and that is the most public area. From there, visitors have the op�on to ascend through a series of ramps and steps and make their journey from public to more private fabrica�on spaces, or descend into the auditorium located underground. The main volume seems to levitate from the ground with the aid of structure and façade choices. The double skin system of anodized aluminum panels and ETFE air-filled bubbles provide greater control of solar heat gains and insula�on as well as providing an iconic exterior of the project.

As downtown Los Angeles con�nues to densify and develop, the current automobile-oriented city center will soon need innova�ve ways to digest the incoming vehicles. These car collec�on points work in conjunc�on with the Downtown Trolley Loop and Metro River line, to intercept cars entering downtown at stategic points, to encourage public and mul�-modal with integrated bikeshare and comfortable walkways. They also serve as social and community portals as they contain everyday needs such as grocery stores and dry cleaning to cater to commu�ng workers, and to eliminate the total number of trips needed to reach these places individually.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES SPRING 2015, B.ARCH YEAR 3 RHINO, VRAY, PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR


This project, located in Downtown LA, is developed through a series manipula�on to a single surface to create volumes that house various programs. Most of the programs are arranged near the top of the building to allow an ample amount of daylight, which is moderated by a an operable louver system. A frosted glass light-well enables light to reach the center of the building, while also providing visibility between levels for gallery purposes. As with the top-heavy form, the bo�om por�ons are corroded away to expand the sidewalk and invite public interac�on with the project.

BARCELONA, SPAIN FALL 2016, B.ARCH YEAR 4 RHINO, VRAY, PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR


There are three major force present at this site: the harbor, the Parc de Montjuic, and the old city of Barcelona. Each has dras�cally different characteris�cs in terms of density, usage, and traffic/access. The goal is to bring together these 3 zones at the point of convergence, taking full advantage of the sea front, mountain, and city. The proposed volume cuts, fractures and shears inside the exis�ng building, crea�ng many ramps that are quite dense to create a visual screen to separate the poli�cal and business area. The bridge itself houses mostly cultural programs, such as the library, research centers, exhibi�on spaces and also a restaurant. The park is now programma�cally connected to the sea and the people from the city can access the harbor in an organized fashion.
