Sarah & Sam

CANANDAIGUA, NY

ENGAGED: JULY 2020

MARRIED: JULY 2022

HowTheyMet:

After moving to NYC in the summer of 2015, we were quickly introduced by a mutual friend (Sarah’s roommate from college and Sam’s childhood friend) after coincidentally matching on a dating app. We went on one date in the West Village and have not looked back since!

TheirFavoriteThingsAboutEachOther:

We love how easy it always has been to connect with each other. Our shared love of family, friends and Upstate New York has always felt so special. We are each other’s best friend and could spend all day in our Jersey City apartment just hanging out (with our miniature schnauzer, Sofie, of course!).

TheirPerfectDate:

We love good food! Dinner with a view—especially on vacation—is such a treat. Our lives in the city are crazy and hectic, so any chance to slow down and spend time together is special.

TheProposal:

When we were spending the summer of 2020 in Rochester during COVID-19, Sam realized it was the perfect opportunity to pop the question surrounded by friends and family.

On a beautiful July day, Sam planned a fun day trip to Ithaca to hike with our dog Sofie. When we reached the overlook at Taughannock Falls, Sam got down on one knee! We snapped some pictures with the photographer and headed back home to Rochester, where there was a surprise party with friends and family in Sarah’s mom’s backyard. It was truly the perfect day!

TheBigDay:

We wanted to capture the natural beauty that is Canandaigua Lake. With Ellie Clapp’s expertise (Celebrated Events), we were able to elevate a “casual lakeside wedding” using the incomparable backdrop of The Lake House, gorgeous flowers from Wisteria, open air flowing through the barn, glowing candles and a packed dance floor! Live saxophone music serenaded us down the aisle towards the water, where Sarah’s brothers officiated the ceremony underneath a family chuppah. We truly wanted our guests to feel the love radiating throughout the night.

TheDress:

The dress! It was truly my most favorite thing I have ever worn. As soon as I put it on at Silk Bridal, I knew it was the one. I was obsessed with the layers of Chantilly lace overlaying a champagne base, and I had this unbelievable lace train and cathedral veil that went on forever. It fit me like a glove, and I felt so beautiful!

TheFirstDance:

Our first dance was to “Beyond” by Leon Bridges (ft. Luke Combs). The song clicked for us! We loved that it was easy to dance to (not too slow, not too fast), and the lyrics were perfect. We even threw in a few choreographed moves before inviting all of our guests to join us on the dance floor.

PurchasingTheirRings:

Shoutout to Vicki! From start to finish, purchasing all of our rings was an extremely pleasant and professional experience. Vicki was so accommodating, allowing Sam to bring Sarah’s family (and Sofie) into the store to be part of the process of picking out the engagement ring. We were able to travel to Rochester for Mann’s Wedding Band Weekend, where we selected a few wedding bands that were not usually available in store. Vicki made the whole process stressfree, fun and special. We have created a relationship that we have continued to revisit when celebrating birthdays and special events!

TheirBestAdvice:

Make intentional, purposeful time to cook together, go on vacations and connect. Also, getting a dog is always fun!
