The minimalist, monochromatic decor selected by New York–based interior designer Inson Dubois Wood results in a modern look and Zen-like atmosphere. In the living area, a leather sectional sofa sits atop a silk rug, their off-white and ivory tones lending to the room’s palette. Bronze sconces, a wood bench and plants provide the only break from the colorless motif. Even Mother Nature contributes with a blanket of snow.

dark night rises
The days are growing shorter, and Night is coming to Mr. Sid. Stuart Segel discusses the store’s latest concept as well as other new offerings to kick off the season.
Tell us about the new Sid Night section at Mr. Sid. A new concept, Sid Night is a carefully curated selection of clothes that a sophisticated gentleman could wear out in the evening; for instance, for a dinner or date night. With pieces from fine Italian designers, such as Corneliani, Zegna and a new brand to our store, Pal Zileri, as well as some pieces from our private label, it exudes a “men’s club” vibe. The pieces we’ve chosen are muted in color and minimal in pattern but have texture for a sleek, sophisticated and contemporary look. For example, we have a midnight navy suit from Corneliani that has some texture to it so it’s reminiscent of a blazer. Pair that with a white textured shirt, and you have instant sex appeal. Think Harry Connick Jr.—a younger man singing classic jazz music. That’s the kind of guy who would appreciate this collection.
What inspired you to create Sid Night? On a recent trip to Milan, I noticed men dressing more sophisticated in the finer restaurants and on the runway than what you might see in U.S. cities or even in southern Italy, where men prefer bold patterns and colors. The Milanese style features muter, darker colors that still make a statement. So we decided to take that approach at Sid for the fall season. Why do you think it’s important for men to dress well when going out for an evening? I personally believe that it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. While today’s more lax dress codes mean you can get in almost anywhere if you’re not dressed appropriately, that’s not the point. Men should think about how they want to present themselves, especially if they’re going out with someone they enjoy being with. Women often dress to make a statement, and I encourage men to do that, too. You don’t have to be flashy, but if you put on a nice sportcoat, a fitted shirt and trim tailored pants, it’ll make all the difference in the world. Even if you’re on the heavier side, make sure you tailor your clothes to your body—they’ll make you look thinner. It might not feel comfortable at first, but after time you’ll be glad you made the switch. What else is new to the store this season? We’re rolling out more promotion for a brand we are especially impressed by: PT01, an Italian company known for its slim-cut trousers. What’s different about it is that the fabric has a little stretch to it, so the pants conform to your body. We’ve had the brand in the store for a few seasons now, but we’re starting to showcase it because we really believe in these pants. It creates an attractive silhouette and appeals to both younger customers and the customer who wants an updated spin on his classic style. Also, we’ve newly rounded out our footwear collection so it appeals to our customers’ different lifestyles, with styles ranging from casual to formal. Our buyer Andrew Oman, who is a real shoe maven, has brought us offerings from brands such as Edward Green, Alden, Gravati, Santoni, Paraboot and Fratelli Rossetti. Finally, on our first floor, we’ll showcase active sportswear, like skiwear and workout clothing as well as casual weekend wear. There’s something for every age and every lifestyle this season—a perfect reason to visit the store and see what we have for you.
