It wouldn’t really be summer in Wairarapa without Cruise Martinborough, and it will be great to see some familiar faces – and familiar classic cars – hitting the roads once again around the district and in Masterton.
Cruise Martinborough is a great opportunity to get out and see some familiar, and perhaps notso-familiar, sights in our beautiful district. Out on the coast, visits to Castlepoint and Riversdale are reliably fantastic trips, while closer to Masterton, Queen Elizabeth Park has been awarded its second consecutive Green Flag award.

We may do it a new way but people always enjoy it because we put our heart and soul into the music. We have a lot of fun when we play and I

Miss Cruise Martinborough 2020? After a very successful inaugural “Miss Cruise Martinborough” in 2019, the competition is back for 2020. On Saturday, Miss Stellar Moon, a finalist in Miss Pinup New Zealand 2018, will be searching for Miss Cruise Martinborough. She describes Miss Cruise Martinborough as a “relaxed pinup competition where competitors simply just dress up for the occasion.” While the title features “Miss”, the competition is not gender specific and Miss Stellar Moon encourages gentlemen and children to participate as well, with some great prizes up for grabs. “We had a really good response to the event last year. Our winner was Rochelle Guy from Lower
Hutt and runner-up was Nicole Halliday of Martinborough. This years competition will run pretty much exactly as last year, Miss Moon says. “Entrants are to meet us at the Cruise
Martinborough central van to have their photo taken as their entry. “Later in the day the entrants will be advised where to meet where we will have our annual group photo and prize giving.”

Julian Cheer should need no introduction in Wairarapa. Being a Low Volume Vehicle Certifier in the region since the inception of the LVV system in 1992, Julian has been involved with the certification of countless vehicles. With his vast experience, Julian is able to look past the aesthetics and focus on the engineering aspects of vehicles. With the variety on display he's set to have his work cut out for him.
Paul Duff
One of New Zealand’s most highly-respect panel fabrication and repair specialists, Paul Duff will be a hard one to please. As the owner and operator of Hamilton-based Body Mods, his focus is on dead-straight panel work along with fit and finish. Paul’s a regular at Cruise Martinborough and knows what to expect, so best that owners get their shine on.
Todd Wylie
As the Editor of NZV8 Magazine for the past 13 years, Todd Wylie knows a thing or two about what constitutes a stand-out car and has an eye for things that are a bit different. Backing this up is that his own Cadillac is a previous winner of Cruise Martinborough’s sought-after Top Entry award. Having been hands-on with so many high-end cars, he’ll be hard to impress.

The birth Jo Ward loves early Ford pickups and anything Model A, so it should come as no surprise that she owns a 1930 Model A pickup.
Ward
The Ford Model A was Ford Motor Company's second market success after its predecessor, the Model T. First produced at the end of 1927, two million cars had sold within two years. It has been argued that the 1930 Ford Model A Pickup was when the modern pickup was born. The enclosed cab version of the Model A Pickup which was introduced late in 1928, quickly became popular and the 1930 factory-built closed-cab pickup would be the prototype for almost every one that followed.

Westwood
26 Ford “Jailbar” Pickups like this 1947 model owned by Rodney and Daphne Westwood of Palmerston North looked nothing like the Ford passenger cars of the time. They only had the running rear in common. Focus was on functionality rather than style with quite spartan interiors. First introduced in 1942, production was interrupted in 1943 by World War II, but resumed in 1946-47 pretty much unchanged.
Considered less stylish than their predecessors, the rugged 1942-1947 Ford half-ton pickups nonetheless offered good performance. The couple bought theirs from an old school friend four years ago. “I was looking for a hot rod and this came up for sale and I’ve always liked jailbars,”
says Rodney. “It’s running on a Chevy chassis with a grafted Holden front end and a Holden V8 diff and 302 Cleveland motor. The car’s a great cruiser and we drive it as
often as possible.” Rodney and Daphne will be coming to Cruise Martinborough with other members of the Feilding Rod and Classic Club.
