Welcome
Mayor’s message
I am once again privileged to welcome competitors and visitors to another exciting Golden Shears international event. I have no doubt that this year’s competition will again be a fantastic celebration of skill and endurance by shearers and wool handlers. There is no denying that farming is a big part of our community, and district, and the Golden Shears brings a welcome taste of farming to town. The introduction of live streaming across the globe has increased interest in the event as well, lifting Masterton’s pro le and showcasing our association with shearing, resulting in a considerable boost to our economy. President’s welcome
On behalf of the Golden Shears committee it gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to the 61st Golden Shears. After a very trying year with Covid-19 in New Zealand and around the world we are extremely lucky to be holding our event when so many other shows have been restricted or cancelled worldwide and this coming year is looking to be unsettled as well. On the brighter side, this last year we entered the Wellington Gold Awards and won the events category, Vibrant Gold, which was extremely rewarding and an acknowledgement to our past and present committee members for their hard work over the 60 years. A big thank you to Mayor Lyn Patterson and the District Council for their ongoing support and their part in the 61 years of our event. Sadly, we have no tests with Australia this year but have lled the gaps with other events.
The Golden Shears couldn’t happen without the support of our sponsors, big & small. Our main sponsors being Bayleys, Trust House, Lister & Shear Expertise. Once again, we hope you all enjoy your stay in Masterton. Sam Saunders, President

Masterton District Council’s vision is to provide the best of rural provincial living and the Golden Shears truly symbolises the mix we are so proud of. A special welcome to you all. Enjoy your week and please take advantage of the great hospitality I am sure you will be o ered during your stay. Lyn Patterson, Masterton Mayor
