ON THE COVER Chad Sharpe

Chad Sharpe is always fun to shoot with because of his background in snowboarding. He’s got one of the filthiest methods our sport has ever seen and we all know how gnarly

he is cutting at the wake. We got this shot riding doubles

together in his back yard on Lake Hiawassee. A lake notorious

so it wasn’t so recognizable. A flash and a bit of slow shutter

gave the method some motion while Chad flew past me. 3

Kevin Henshaw LAKE SHAWNIGAN, BC

There are a lot of pros and cons when riding first thing in the morning. It sucks to wake up that early and exert that kind of energy in 50-degree weather. Then on the other hand, the light and water conditions are usually best at that time for photographs. Enduring the early sunrise and brisk Canadian air, Kevin Henshaw “gets the worm.

The “sitting duck” angle always comes with a nerveracking set of rollers that invades the dry comfort

zone. In “total-camera-soakage” terms, this would be a great place for that to happen. Just after the boat passed, the first roller approached my left side. As I barely floated above the peak, I quickly dropped back down between the roller as Langley cut at the wake. I had just a split second to get the camera framed and focused before the second wake would eventually smack me. It took some lining up, a few passes, and plenty of close calls, but we somehow managed to keep the camera in the safe, dry zone and got this keeper of Jeff.

When shooting with Parks, he usually ends off his sesh with some sort of whacked out dismount. You’ll never know when he’s done riding, until you see something like this. It’s pretty obvious. He ends up head first nearly every time. This shoot was no different. Here he is again, putting a fork in it saying, “Ok, I’m done.”
